Correct Edition Of Reporting Services

Aug 18, 2007

Hi,
We are in the process of replacing our Microsoft Access(.adp)/SQL2000 based reporting tool to ReportingServices/SQL2000 one. Our development team would be in charge of converting the existing Access based reports to Reporting Service format and and any new reports thereafter. Keeping that in mind which of the existing version(Standard, Enterprise, Developer) of Reporting Services would best suit our environment? The final picture would be something like all the reports will be residing on the Reporting server and it will be accessed by clients with the help of a custom reporting application(made in .net) that calls these reports based on user level permissions to these reports.
Will this be possible by using a Standard edition of RS?

Looking forward to your replies..

Reporting Services Parameters Not In Correct Order

Jan 17, 2007

Hi,

SQL Server Reporting Services 2005.

I have 13 parameters, ordered correctly within the Report Parameter screen.

When displayed in the Preview tab they are all ordered correctly, but when viewed in the application the first 4 are at the top but ordered incorrectly. The remainder are ordered correctly.

I have tried reordering, saving, deploying, viewing and then doing the same but in the correct order without any success.

Please can someone suggest how I can get the parameters to appear in the correct order within the application?

Thanking you,

dwemh

Reporting Services Parameter Do Not Refresh And Display Correct Value

Apr 4, 2008

I am creating an RS with four parameters -

Parameter 1 = Date Period ex. 20081102
Parameter 2 = Start Date ex. 11/02/2008
Parameter 3 = End Date ex. 12/02/2008
Parameter 4 = Description ex. Period 20081102

For Parameter 2 and 3 it will have available values in a Date Range
ex. for Period 20081102 it will have a date range
for Parameter 2 = from 10/02/2008 - 12/02/2008
for Parameter 3 it will have from 11/02/2008 - 12/02/2008

The process flow goes like this:

1. I'll select value from parameter 1
2. Automatically parameter 2,3 and 4 should display corresponding values.
3. It works well on first try
4. if i'll try selecting another value for Parameter 1,
5. As expected it should display again the corresponding values for the 3 parameters but Parameter 2 is retaining the value for the previous Parameter.

Why is it happening?
Does it have something to do with the date range?
How does the sequencing for RS happens?
This scenario happens when date ranges for each Date Period have common values.

Express Edition, Reporting Services, And Licensing

Mar 15, 2007

Hello,

From reading the licensing considerations page [1], my understanding is that if my environment is 2 servers - an IIS Server and a separate SQL Server Std - I will need a 2nd license of SQL Server to run Reporting Services on my IIS Server? Is this correct? If so, would a license of SQL Server Express Edition w/Advanced Services satisfy the second license requirement, or would I need a license to match the database server?

Essentially, what is the recommended guidance for Reporting Services and Web Applications? It's a known best practice that, for performance, run SQL Server on a dedicated machine separate from IIS. Is it recommended that the database server also serve the reports?

Is This Correct Forum For SQL Server Compact Edition ( Formerly Everywhere )

Jan 1, 2007

Hi,

I am looking for help ( at beginnners level ) in the use of the newly released / promoted SQL Server Compact Edition (what used to SSEv ).

I have a single user desktop application - not PDA / mobile, which uses JET database today & I need to convert it to current databse as JET is no longer supported under Vista. I understand that it is SQL Server Compact edition. My application is native c++ with no .NET and I would like to keep it that way. Can someone point me to examples, documentation, or any help which will get me going?

Currently, I am connecting to the JET database using ADO and a connection string ( again ADO, not ADO.NET ). Is it just a matter of changing the connection string and making sure that the righ dlls are included and registered?

Thanks in advance.

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)

at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

Integration Services :: Correct Syntax To Access A Variable

Sep 30, 2015

I am having trouble finding the correct syntax to access a variable. I have a variable defined in the Variables window: The variable name is formatedDate. The DataType is String.

I am successfully setting the value of the variable in a Execute SQL Task. The SQL is as follows:

SELECT LEFT(CONVERT(VARCHAR, MAX(ReportDate), 120), 10) as formatedDate
from DimReportDates

The Result Set is set to “Single Row” and properly set up.

No problem so far. I can see with a watch that the variable has the correct value, something like:

‘2015-09-30’

Now, in a subsequent step, a Data Flow Task, I want to access the variable. Actualy it is in the SQL statement of a OLE DB source in the Data Flow… I have the following:

Declare @sDate smalldatetime
SELECT @sDate = xxxxx

I have tried several things substituting xxxxx above, but nothing seems to work. One variation was

 @[User::formatedDate])

 Another was

((DT_WSTR, 10) @[User::formatedDate]).

I think I’m close, but just can’t get it. What is the correct syntax.

Compatibility Of SQL Express Reporting Services With SQL 2000 Reporting Services

Dec 6, 2006

I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.

One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:

Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets?
Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?

Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Reporting Services :: Localization Data In Reporting Services?

Jul 27, 2015

I work in a big project and we will begin in using reporting services as the base technique for reports and I will be responsible for this part. but I have a problem I will discuss in the following:

Currently: We use currently devexpress reports and we have 2 languages(Arabic and English). the data in tables saved in two ways (Arabic and English). when the end user change the language of the web site the report data language changed when run it.

Example:

we have table with (ID, NAME_AR, NAME_EN, JobTitle_AR, JobTitle_EN). designed report will display(ID, NAME_EN, JobTitle_EN) . but the end user change the language of the system the report will

dispaly(ID, NAME_AR, JobTitle_AR)

Hint:this done pragmatically

how to do this in reporting services.

Integration Services :: Mapping Correct Surrogate Keys In Fact Table After Performing SCD Type 2 On Dimension

and Fact table like

fact_key  persn_key units_purchased
1                 1             10

persn_key is the surrogate key between tables.

My question here is as the dimension has SCD type 2 on it and every time when there is a change the persn_key gets a new key value but the fact table still points to oldest key.how to update the surrogate key on fact table to the current key value? As per the requirement fact surrogate key must be pointing to current active record on the dimension.

To Access Reporting Sevices (Report Manager, Reporting Web Services), Does One Has To Be An Admin On The Machine

Mar 12, 2007

Hi There,

Our DBA has installed reporting services on a server and now in order to access the report manager, one has to be an Admin on that Server. I am guessing that there is a mistake in the configuration of Reporting Services. Usually it should allow anybody who was added to the roles in the properties section of the Report Manager, right? I have also added the users to the DB..

Also I am using Windows Authentication to access Report Catalog items (Reporting Services is installed on Server2) from a web Application(deployed on Server1) and displaying the report using report viewer. For some reason, server1 has to be in an Admin role on Server2 to access the report catalog/report. This is kinda strange for me as I don't want everybody to be an Admin on Server2. Can anybody please point in the right direction?

Thanks.

Reporting Services :: Real Time Reporting In SSRS?

Jun 19, 2015

We've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.

I've few options down...

1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.

2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.

3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.

Reporting Services ReportServer DB Reporting - 3rd Party Tool ?

We are required to gather certain information regarding reporting services.

Which reports were requested, by whom , how long did they run for, what parameters were passed etc etc.

I see that the system tables do provide some of this information, is there a 3rd party tool or something we can use to gather all this type of information for us?

This is for reporting services 2000 and 2005.
