Could Not Setup Web Service Identity --&&> Error Code 80070003

Hello!
I´m trying to setup a Report Server on my SQL 2005 server. In Reporting Services Configuration Manager I get an error when i try to create the Web Sevice Identity
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 80070003
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)
The default website contains an office sharepoint 2007 beta solution if that could cause the error..
Would be real grateful for some hints...

Trying to update my local developer version of SQL Server 2005 SP1 to SP2. The setup program terminates with the following information dumped from the logs. I have a few problems, all showing up in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, which I will try to summarize.
SERVER SOFTWARE
Windows 2003 Standard 64bit SP1
SQL 2005 Enterprise 64bit SP2
PROBLEMS
1) I have one Red "X" in Reporting Services Configuration Manager, "Web Service Identity". The ASP .NET Service Account field is empty, but I can open the rsreportserver.config file and see "<WebServiceAccount>NT AuthorityNetworkService</WebServiceAccount>". In addition, when I pick "ReportServer" from the drop-down list for both Report Server and Report Manager fields and click Apply, I get the following error:
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: A virtual directory must first be created before performing this operation.
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)
2) In the "Report Server Virtual Directory" section, the Website field is not populated but the setup worked and virtual directories were created. Why isn't it showing "Default Web Site" in this blank?
3) In the "Report Manager Virtual Directory" section, same problem as in item number 2 above.

Dear All,
I am making web application using Asp.net C#(Visual Studio2005). And Sql server 2000 as a back End upgraded with service pack 3 and analysis service.
Now I am trying to install sql server 2000 report services. But I run SQL2KRSSP1-ENG.EXE setup
Then following error occurs
The upgrade patch can not be installed by window installer because the program to be upgraded may be missing , or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
I redownload the same exe to other location. And again run but getting same error
Please Guide me or atleast give some help full link.

Help, Had configuration error trying to set up reporting services. Uninstalled SQL Server and Reinstalled, but not all files were removed. How many files and directories do I have to remove to get Reporting Services to work?

Hi Guys
I have my Sql server 2005 running perfectly (until yesterday) on vista. But today when I tried to connect to the server I get error 3417 meaning my master database needs rebuilt or repaired.
I tried all sort of techniques I found on internet like checking if my data files in data dir are not compressed and for the SQL Server Servies it logs on local account with interact with desktop checkbox checked. But no luck.
I tried to use setup.exe in my installer CD to rebuild master database but it seems the cmd doing nothing. To rebuild, I use the following command “start /wait setup.exe /qn INSTANCENAME=<instance> REINSTALL=SQL_Engine REBUILDDATABASE=1 SAPWD=<New SA Password>�. This cmd runs but due to some reason my master db is not being repaired. Ideally, I should see recent date change for this file.
Please advice how can I connect back to my server again making sure my databases are not lost.

I got this error message during SQL Server Express install with no error code on Server 2003 SP1. I'm installing on an older development machine and although I do have a very large log file somewhere I wanted to post before I even dug into it. I noticed in IIS under my Webs that the MSSQLExpress webs were there at first but when I clicked on them to get any info or Properties... they dissapeared. So they were almost installed but they no longer exist. Also I do not have a SQL Service Manager icon down near the clock.
I almost took a step to fix this. After reading a few posts about similar problems I thought maybe this happened because the Default Web Sites IP # was not set to (All Unassigned). I was going to try a repair install from Add/Remove Programs but the temporary setup files are already gone. I really dont want to uninstall all 5 SQL components from Add/Remove Programs and start from scratch.
As good security practice we usually remove the Default Web or as in this development servers case we changed the IP from (All Unassigned) to an IP that is only accessible from certain machines on the internal network. I obviously should have read more pre setup guides. Anyway how can I fix this without reinstalling everything?

Hi All,
Recently in an SSIS package I am getting the following error for a particular Data flow task.
Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.58
Code: 0xC0202009
Source: Import Datasynapse Data User Events Source [3017]
Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF.

Our guess is when the data size of User Events table is more it throws this error. If we try to transfer small subset of data it succeeds. What could be reason for this error?
Since this is very urgent, immediate response would be very much appreciated.

I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022. It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.
I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP. There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.
1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account. Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions. I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder. I come back later and the permissions are gone.
2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared. I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.
3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.

I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop. When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7. How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?
I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11. I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

Hi all,
I encountered a problem with SQL server mobile.
I am inserting a row inside a database table through C# code and need to obtain the ID of the last inserted row if successful. I have the following in my code:
SqlCeHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(connectionString, "*INSERT STATEMENT*");
Int64 id = (Int64)SqlCeHelper.ExecuteScalar(connectionString, "SELECT @@IDENTITY");
The variable id always ends up NULL. Is this the correct approach to this? Is there anything else I can use to obtain the id of the last inserted row in SQL server mobile?

On the screen "Service Account" during SQL 2005 Developer Edition, I am choosing built-in System Account = Local System and uncheck the Customzie for each service account. that means, that this system account is set to all services,
Right?

Hello,
We have vendor that is implementing an employee self serve application for current and potential employees (employment applications). There is a web server in our DMZ that has the application installed but also on the server is a SQL database that has names and social security numbers. This server will also query the backend accounting server for earnings statements and W2s. We have a Cisco ASA as the firewall and SSL to protect client authentication from the Internet. There is no SSL between the web server and the accounting server. The fact that the SQL database on the web server containing SSN associated with names concerns me. It seems that none of this information is masked or encrypted and can be seen if the server was to ever be compromised.
My idea of such a service involves a web server that queries the backend database over SSL and presents the information to the user over SSL. No personally identifiable information would be resident on the web server at all, just a facade. That is not the case and it is not what we described to them as to what we want.
It seems they have installed it the only way they know how which is not secure, or maybe it is, that's why I am here. They have installed this at numerous locations and they actually wanted any and all ports open between the web server and the backend accounting server. It took us a while to get them to follow the rule of least privilege but we essentially had to do it ourselves.
Also on our main webserver for our Internet site I found the test database they used almost 2 years ago to test this application along with names and SSN. This was before I arrived and there is no encryption or authentication for this server. Is this good secure practice? All my training says no but it is hard to believe a mutli-million dollar organization is this ignorant. I guess it shouldn't surprise me, TJX didn't pay attention either.
I saw this thread which provide some good information but I am not a database admin and I am not familiar with SQL services, etc.
My questions are: Is their implementation secure? Does anyone know where I can find more info regarding web services and HIPAA? I read where 2 firewalls are required but would like documentation to show. Any suggestions on how to implement this securely?

I had a strange experience with MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installation, I am running a P4 3G Processor, 1 GB of RAM, Windows XP SP2, 300 GB HDD (SATA if it matters at all :) ) And using Visual Studio Pro 2005.
I have managed to install the SQL Express with no hassle at all, then had to format my HDD, and start from scratch, to make a new home for my VS 2005 Pro (The 300 GB HDD) And managed to install the SQL Express as part of the VS 2005 without any problems, after using it for 3 months now, I've started a new project in VS 2005, and tried to add a new SQL DB, but it had failed for several times.
I€™ve decided that the files got corrupted for some reason and tried to reinstall the MS SQL 2005 using the original SQL Express installation file I've used before, but without joy.
I thought that it is conflicting with some new MS Update patch and downloaded the latest SQL Express advanced installation, but that did not fix the problem either.
The message I'm getting every time I attempt the installation is" SQL Server service failed to start" with all the bla bla about the online books and whatever useless stuff to learn how to start the service manually.
I have uninstalled the whole thing, including VS 2005, .NET Framework, and any registry trace of the SQL Server installation, but again all in vain.
Finally, some smart wizard suggested in one of the threads that if your computer is not part of a domain, you should run the SQL service as a local service, using the advanced option during the first step of the setup.
And guess what! It worked!!!!
My Question is why did it work during the first two installations, without me fiddling with the advanced installation feature?
My computer was and still is, not part of any domain, my hardware did not change at all, and I had the installation failing with or without any software installed!

I recently renamed my server from tmpSrv to tfsSrv (names have been changed to protect the innocent). When I go to the Reporting Services Configuration Manager I have all greens except for the Web Service Identity field.
Trying to set that isn't working...the ASP.Net service account is NT AuthorityNetwork Service, and the application pools defined are using that Network Service account as well. When I hit the "Apply" button I get a message saying:
Setting Web Service Identity
There was an error setting the identity for the web service. The previously set identity will still be used.
I'm trying to install Team Foundation Server on the box, and when I run the tfrsconfig /verify tool I see that the Web Service Identity is not set at all.
I've been battling this for a couple of days now with no effect. I even broke down and gave "Everyone" administrative access on the server in an attempt to fix it.

On my new install of RS, I've got a red X on Web Service Identity in Configure Report Server. The Report Server and Report Manager virtual directories are there and working. The application pool is the default and the App Pool is running as Network Service. rsreportserver.config shows
<WebServiceAccount>NT AuthorityNetworkService</WebServiceAccount>
Any tips on how to get the red X to go away?

We have successfully been using MSCS with MSSQL7 (SP1) running under NT4 EE
(SP6a), installed in an active/active configuration using, two DELL
PowerEdge 6350 machines. Recently I installed MSSQL7 (SP2), I followed the
instructions that came with SP2, and unclustered the SQL nodes using the
Failover Cluster Wizard, and installed SP2, this was uneventful, and
appeared to install correctly. Next I tried to recluster the SQL nodes
using the Failover Cluster Wizard as directed. This failed with: "Could not
run setup on remote machine. SQL Cluster Setup failed." So I began the
usual research using the usual resources, and have found articles that
discusses this error, and the things to look for when it happens. I have
exhausted all suggestions without success. I appear to have everything
correctly configured. I have enabled Cluster Logging (level 3), following
are the two things I have found that indicate something is wrong:
1. In the SQL Error Log the following gets logged when I run the wizard:
"Attempting to initialize Distributed Transaction Coordinator."
"Failed to obtain TransactionDispenserInterface:
XACT_E_TMNOTAVAILABLE"
2. In the Cluster Log I see the following message repeatedly:
"[ClRtlCopySecurityDescriptor] MakeSelfRelativeSD failed,
0x00000551"
3. In the sqlclstr.log I see the following, without an indication of
which file is missing:
"[reghelp.h:235] : 2 (0x2): The system cannot find the file
specified."
"[clushelp.cpp:166] : 259 (0x103): No more data is available."
"[validate.cpp:147] DeleteTestGroup:OpenClusterResource: 5007
(0x138f): The cluster resource could not be found."
"~~~ XXX InstallRemote failed"
Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this problem?

I am trying to install Service Pack 4 to set up the SQL Server 2000 but I am having problem. When I clicked the setup.bat, the screen just "froze" with the message " validating user. Please wait..."

I'm trying to install SQL 2005 onto a 2012 R2 server. The install is failing at the end when it is trying to start the database service. I have looked in the install logs and I'm getting the following error. I'm running 8 virtual processors on the virtual machine (8 Cores). URL...

I am installing the SQL Server 2005 SP1 "SQLServer2005SP1-KB913090-x86-ENU.exe" on my server and everything successfully installed except the Integration Services. Below is the error I received.

I can't get this to work. This is my setup:
2 Windows 2008 Server machines
- first machine holds MOSS 2007
- second machine SQL 2005 SP2+MOSS Web Front
MOSS config. database is on Sql server. I'm trying to configure Reporting Services on SQL server in Sharepoint Integration Mode. As per Microsoft tutorials I've set up domain accounts for Sql services. When I use Reporting Services Configuration to configure Web Service Identity to use an App. Pool that runs under a domain account i get this error:
"ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800708AC at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)"
Database Setup and Windows Service Identity work fine using domain account.
I've searched many forums, Microsoft "How To" to no avail.
If anyone has some ideea on this please help.

I needed to re-install the entire sql server 2005, I used add/remove program. everything went normal, except reporting service. I deleted the entire upper sql server directory, rebooted the box, however, it still shows up in services, even though the path does not exist. I tried to reinstall it again, but it complains about name already exists. I cannot change the name, but I am not able to find how I can remove it and reinstall it properly.

Hi,
I have installed SQL Reporting Service on one server. Using the config tool, I am trying to setup the Reporting Database on a seperate SQL instance. This SQL instance is running on a Clustered SQL 2005 server.
The creation of the Database is sucessful. However when I give the Windows credentials to connect to this database on the same page, I always fail at the following task : Setting Connection Info for Reporting Server. The error message is :

The Windows Account I am using has Full SQL Rights to the Clustered SQL Server. I have seen other posts on the forums about the 0x800706B3 error, but most of them are related to a problem with RPC.
The Reporting Services account is runing under 'Network Services'. I am not sure if this is causing the problem?
Thoughts anybody?
