Count With 2 Columns?

im trying to display a category name in one column and then the number of books in that category in another column.

SELECT CATEGORY, COUNT(DISTINCT CATEGORY) "Category Total" FROM BOOKS;
Gives me an error saying something about category not being a single group function. What am I doing wrong?

where Doctors is a group by from tableA and Patients is a result of the row count of paidinfull = yes minus the rowcount of monthyear.

SQL CASE Output COUNT Into Two Columns

Hi Everyone,
 I am trying to do a query where I need to use as little C# as possible to build my gridview.  Basically I have a column called statusID.  There are about 15 options for this column but I only want to count certain ones.  I want to count when statusID = 3 and output that into a column called "fullUnitsUsed" but when the value is 4 or > 13 I want it to count and put the result into a column called "halfUnitsUsed".  I also want it to count based on the month.  To accomplish this I have used CASE and GROUP BY.  This has worked to some extent.  Currently if I COUNT for one month I get the correct number of fullUnitsUsed and halfUnitsUsed used for January.  Unfortunately the query returns 2 records for the month.  The first one has a value for fullUnitsUsed and halfUnitsUsed is NULL, the second record has fullUnitsUsed as NULL and halfUnitsUsed has the correct value.  I was hoping to output one record where both fullUnitsUsed and halfUnitsUsed have data.  My other problem is that if I test for the entire year (which is what this query is supposed to do) there are 5 records returned for each month, 3 of the records have fullUnitsUsed and halfUnitsUsed both as NULL and for the other 2, one has fullUnitsUsed with data and the other has halfUnitsUsed with data and the other column in both records is NULL.  The values for fullUnitsUsed and halfUnitsUsed are counted for the entire year as well, which I only want it to count based on each month.  Below is my query, any suggestions about how to approach this will be greatly appreciated.  If any clarification is needed please let me know.  Again if I could get this to work completely with SQL and not need to use any more C# than I have to it would be preferable.

I'm working on a data analysis involving a table with a large number of records (close to 2 million). I'm using only three of the columns in the table and basically am grouping results based on different criteria. The three columns are PWSID, Installation and AccountType. I have to Provide the PWSID column with a count of the total number of installations per PWSID, also a count of AccountTypes per PWSID. I have the following query, but the numbers aren't adding up and I'm not sure why. I'm falling short in the total count by around 60k records.

I am trying to create an asp page that will update an Access 2000 database. I need to update records if the user exists and create a new record if the user does not exist. Most of the variables are pulled from a separate "post" form.

I am using 2 pieces of info to find duplicates, as employee numbers can be assigned to multiple employees. Right now I have the page check for a duplicate employee id number then check for a duplicate last name. Unfortunately it is running each check separately, so if the last name is duplicated anywhere, it is sending a duplicated value.

I am trying to count the columns of a MDX query but I haven't yet found a solution. Below is the query

Row Count Task, What Is Input Columns Tab For?

I'm using a Row Count Task to count the number of records passing thru a particular path in my data flow. I created a package variable and referenced this variable in the Components Properties tab in the Row Count Task. I believe this is the minimum I need to do to get the row count.

However, as I explore the other tabs in the editor, I see there is something called Input Columns tab. What is this for? I didn't select anything in there and things are working fine. At first I thought that I had to choose the columns that I want to have available to me for further processing after the Row Count Task, but this isn't the case. I am able to see all my columns coming out of the Row Count Task even tho I didn't do anything in the Input Columns tab.

So, what is this setting for?

the result is 1000/ 2 the commission is $500.

Retrieve Columns And Display Count For Two Different Data Sources

I am using Query Writer (should be SQL 2005) and have included the following code.

The end result: -should retrieve columns and display the count for two different data sources that were added by personnel in a specific department.

Problem: results are returned but not accurate. The code below works just fine and returns the results for all spot buy orders added by personnel in the sales department. However, I want to add a column in the same report that also counts blanket orders from the exact same table added by personnel in the sales department. The database uses views (v) in lieu of dbo.

Parameters:
@Add_Date_From SMALLDATETIME='',
@Add_Date_To SMALLDATETIME='',
@Last_name VARCHAR(50)='',
@First_Name VARCHAR(50)=''

Query:
SELECT
T1.Last_name,
T1.First_name,
T2.Position,
T3.Add_date,
COUNT(T4.PO_Type) AS 'Spot Buy Added'

If I substitute COUNT(T4.PO_Type) AS 'Spot Buy Added' with COUNT(T4.PO_Type) AS 'Blanket Added' I also get accurate results for the blanket order. IE separately they work just fine. If I try to combine the two that is where the trouble begins.

What am I doing incorrectly when I try to add the criteria/code for the additional column to count the blanket orders?

DTS Transfer Into A Excel Spreadsheet

I need to take my 'table stats'every week and put them into an excel spreadsheet so that I can track the changes of my table sizes over time (basically I am watching to see how many rows are in each table). What I was planning on doing was to create a view of my table stats that I could then use DTS to transfer on a weekly basis into my excel spreadsheet. I have only used DTS a couple of times, and I have not ever tried it with excel. Now the problem: Everytime my DTS job runs it appends the data to the end of the origional columns that were created. Since my database has over 5000 tables these columns grow quite quickly. What I would like to do is set it up so that everytime the job runs it puts the new data into new columns in the same worksheet of my excel file. Is this possible? Any suggestions?

DTS From MS SQL To Excel Spreadsheet Issue

I'm getting an issue on a MS SQL DTS package that is doing a simple export from a MS SQL table to and Excel spreadsheet. I have three of these running but one is failing. I’m using DTSRun to run all three of these DTS packages. The only recent change was to the DTS package to fix the first step to delete the data in the spreadsheet tab named “Results”. The process works correctly in development (on different servers). The same active directory ID is being used on all three DTS packages and all three do the same i.e. export data to an excel spreadsheet in the same file location but with different names. I’ve Google’d this but only came across access issues which does not make since since it is writing the other two spreadsheets just fine. Curious.

DTS Help With Uploading An Excel Spreadsheet

Can somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong or need to do to resolve my issue. I having problems with one of the columns in an excel spreadsheet that I am trying to upload into the system. One of the columns contain values of both text and numbers such as 'ABC123', 'ABC124', '123456' etc. When I try uploading the sheet into SQL Server 2000 using DTS, the system removes all characters from the one column that I am having problems with. So entry 'ABC123' for example would be truncated to '123'. I tried formatting the column that I am having trouble with in excel to 'General' format as well as tried to transform the column to type varchar in SQL Server while using the DTS wizard but still had no luck. The problem is that SQL server thinks that the column is a float type column from the source and therefore truncates any characters.

Using an access project front-end to an MSDE database, I'm trying toimport a spreadsheet using File->Get External Data->Import.After I select the spreadsheet name, I tell it I want to import into anexisting table and select the table name from the list. The name inthe list is dbo.Cost_Data. When I tell it to finish, it says the tabledoes not exist.If I do the same steps as the database owner, the table name does notcontain the "dbo." on the front of it and it is successful.Thanks for any help.Jerry

XML Task And Excel Spreadsheet

I have some XML that I'm passing through a variable into the XML task in SSIS. I also have an xsd file that I'm using and I want to validate (I think) that XML and have the XML task output an excel document. I've got the xsd file all set up in the "second operand" part of the XML task and the XML I'm passing in as a variable and that's in the "input" part of the XML task. My question is are there any tricks to make an excel document with these two things? Is there something I need to do in the xsd file to tell it that I want excel? Below is my XML and xsd:

File And Spreadsheet Frustration

Hi,

Two problems / questions I could do with some help on please......

1). How do you clear a spreadsheet before loading it ? I am sending a spreadsheet by Email on a regual basis. Each time I run my SSIS package the data is appended to that of the previous run. I need just the contents of this data load to populate the spreadsheet each time. I have tried various methods / techniques for achieveing this so I just need to know the accepted method. Sorry if this is very basic ( as it should be ?!) but I seem to be missing the point somewhere.

2). I have tried to resolve issue 1 above by having an empty 'template' spreadsheet and copying that one over the top of the previously populated one. I get an error saying that the source spreadsheet ..'is in use by another processes.' Amusingly, as a test, I can delete it but I cannot copy it !

Are there any decent workthroughs on working with destination excel speadhseets ? Im struggling.

RS2k Issue: PDF Exporting Report With Hidden Columns, Stretches Visible Columns And Misplaces Columns On Spanned Page

Hello:

I am running into an issue with RS2k PDF export.

Case: Exporting Report to PDF/Printing/TIFF
Report: Contains 1 table with 19 Columns. 1 column is static, the other 18 are visible at the users descretion. Report when printed/exported to pdf spans 2 pages naturally, 16 on the first page, 3 on the second, and the column widths have been adjusted to provide a perfect page span .

User A elects to hide two of the columns, and show the rest. The report complies and the viewable version is perfect, the excel export is perfect.. the PDF export on the first page causes every fith column, starting with the last column that was hidden to be expanded to take up additional width. On the spanned page, it renders the first column on that page correctly, then there is a white space gap equal to the width of the hidden columns and then the rest of the cells show with the last column expanded to take up the same width that the original 2 columns were going to take up, plus its width.

We have tried several different settings to see if it helps this issue or makes it worse. So far cangrow/canshrink/keep together have made no impact. It is not possible to increase the page size due to limited page size selection availablility for the client. There are far too many combinations of what the user can elect to show or hide to put together different tables to show and hide on the same report to remove this effect.

Any help or suggestion on this issue would be appreciated

Import Excel Spreadsheet To Sql Database

Hi there,
 
              I am able to import an excel spreadsheet into a table in sql server 2005 using SqlBulkCopy. The only thing that bothers me here is how to check duplicate entries and throw an error to the user regarding the duplicate entries. In the table in sql, there is no primary keys. There are five columns and the way I will have to find the duplicates is to match all those 5 columns. Since the excel spreadsheet can have 40 to 500 entries, how can I check those dupes.

Getting An Excel Spreadsheet Into An SQL Server Table

I've got an Excel Spreadsheet with 5 columns of data which I need to get into an SQL Table. There's 13,000 rows in this Spreadsheet so manually doing it is out of the question.

How can I go about doing this?
