Counting Occurrence Of A Value && How To Format For Fixed Number Of Rows && Columns
Jan 7, 2008
Hi,
I need to count and display the number of records which have GradeTitle="SHO". I'm only starting to use BI development studio and all attempts at using the built in aggregate functions have failed.
Also, the report I wish to create has a fixed number of columns and a fixed number of rows as the info being displayed is really only counting values in the DB. I tried using Table but multiple rows were created.
I'd appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction, as searching this forum turned out to be pretty fruitless for me.
I have a dataset with 2 columns, a rownumber and a servername - eg
rownumber servername
1 server1
2 server2
....
15 server15
I want to display the servernames in a report so that you get 3 columns - eg
server1 | server2 | server3
server4 | server5 | server6
...
server13 | server14 | server15
I have tried using multiple tables and lists and filtering the data on each one but this then makes formating very hard - i either end up with a huge gap between columns or the columns overlap
I have also tried using a matrix control but cant find a way to do this.
Does anybody know an easy way to do this? The data comes from sql 2005 so i can use a pivot clause on the dataset if somebody knows a way to do it this way. The reporting service is also RS2005
I have a table with 3 columns (ID Int , Name Varchar(25), Course Varchar(20))
My source data looks like below
ID     Name       Course 1       A              Java 1       A              C++ 2       B               Java 2       B              SQL Server 2       B               .Net 2       B                SAP 3       C                Oracle
My Output should look like below...
ID     Name      Course(1)    Course(2)        Course(3)    Course(4) Â
1       A                Java           C++ 2       B                Java           SQL Server .Net            SAP 3       C                Oracle
Basically need t-sql to Convert non fixed rows to non fixed columns...
Rule: IF each ID and Name have more than 1 course then show it in new columns as course(1) course(2)..Course(n)
Create SQL:
Create table Sample (ID Int null , Name Varchar(25) null, Course Varchar(20) null)
Insert SQL:
INSERT Sample (ID, Name, Course) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â VALUES (1,'A','Java'), Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (1,'A','C++'), Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (2,'B','Java'), Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (2,'B','SQL Server'), Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (2,'B','.Net'), Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (2,'B','SAP'), Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (3,'C','Oracle')
I have a stored procedure which deletes a number of rows from a number of different tables. How to i count/return the number of deleted rows in each table?
Here is my stored procedure if it helps:
set ANSI_NULLS ON set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON go
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_delete_entry] @new_venue_id int AS BEGIN
DECLARE@new_customer_id int SET @new_customer_id = (SELECT customer_id FROM VENUE WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id)
DELETE FROM FEATURED WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id DELETE FROM FACILITIES WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id DELETE FROM SIC WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id DELETE FROM SUBSCRIPTION WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id DELETE FROM ADMIN WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id DELETE FROM VENUE WHERE venue_id = @new_venue_id DELETE FROM CUSTOMER WHERE customer_id = @new_customer_id
Hi, I have a table that for ease has this data in:R1, R2, R....z---------------------A | 12A | 22A | 30B | 0B | -1B | -3C | 100I want to generate a table for each distinct row in R1, gives a countof all the rows with data correspondingFor the above table I would getA | 3B | 3C | 1Im probably being stupid but cannot see this at the moment... pleasehelp.Thanks
I would like to create a user defined SQL function which returns the number of rows which meets certain condition, and the average value of one of the culomns. I cannot find a code example for it. Please help.
A table has a column of int type. I need to select a fixed number of rows for each value. For example, if data in that column (c) are 5, 6, 7, and the number I want to select is 2, then I need 2 rows from c=5, 2 from c=6, and 2 from c=7. How to write that query? Any idea?
Is it possible to display only a certain number of columns in a matrix, say the first 6 and then hide the rest? That is, does the matrix allow to somehow control how many columns can be displayed from a column group and hide the remaining columns (I need this to limit the number of columns a user is able to see so that the matrix width does not get infinitely long).
In other words.....
I need to display the subtotals for all dynamically generated columns but display only first 6 columns. This way I can avoid having to display 50 columns and not have user scroll to so far right and keep the page width within reasonable limits. Hope I have made it clear.
i want to break 2 by 2 rows in reportceiling(rownumber(nothing)/2).i used this expression in row group. URL....but i want to use this expression in matrix and that matirx is with in list . so i  am getting error . how to use rownumber in list.here i used list to break the page wise id
I am using MS SQL 2012 and have a pretty simple table dbo. Migration Breakdown with sample data as follows.
DepartDateTime ZoneMovement 2015-06-26 14:00:00.000 6 to 4 2015-06-26 14:00:00.000 11 to 7 2015-06-26 15:30:00.000 9 to 6 2015-06-26 21:00:00.000 7 to 3 2015-06-27 08:01:00.000 7 to 4
[code]....
What I am trying to do is parse the data set to find out when we have more than three like movements ex. 3 to 10 within ANY rolling 72 hour period. I have looked at the SQL Window Functions OVER with a ROW | RANGE subclause, but I can't find out how to tackle this rolling 72 hour business.
Similar to a previous post (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=244646&SiteID=1), I am trying to import data into a SQL Table.
I am trying to program a small application that will import product data obtained through suppliers via CD-ROM. One supplier in particular uses Fixed width colums, and data looks like this:
Example of Data
0124015Apple Crate 32.12
0124016Bananna Box 12.56
0124017Mango Carton 15.98
0124018Seedless Watermelon 42.98 My Table would then have: ProductID as int Name as text Cost as money
How would I go about extracting the data with an XML Format file? I am stumbling over how to tell it where to start picking up data for a specific column. Is there any way that I could trim the Name column (i.e.: "Mango Carton " --> "Mango Carton")?
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I've been calling SQL from my code by doing this:
Code in C# Form
SqlConnection SqlConnection = new SqlConnection(global::SQLClients.Properties.Settings.Default.ClientPhonebookConnectionString); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();
SqlConnection.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); SqlConnection.Close(); RefreshData(); I am running Visual Studio C# Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005.
I want to count number of occurrence in column c3. i.e., count 1 occurred value 9 times, count 2 occurred value 3 times, count 3 occurred value 3 times.
Name Description Date Question Answer Customer A Profile Assessment 01/01/2015
How complex is the structure?
Customer A Profile Assessment 01/01/2015 The total value of assets? Less than GBP 1 million
Customer A Profile Assessment 01/01/2015 The volume of transactions undertaken? Low (-1 pmth)

Hello, I use the full-text search utility in SQL Server 2005 to find word in PDFs document. This is my 'Documents' table: id (PK), data (VarBinary(max)), extension (nvarchar(4)) My full-text catalog on 'data' column works fine because when I search 'Microsoft', my document containing this word is returned as result.
SELECT * FROM Documents WHERE freetext([data], 'Microsoft'); 1 | 0x255044.... | .pdf
But I need to know how many times 'Microsoft' word appears in this document. Do you have any idea how can I retrieve this information? Thanks in advance!
I have a single table that consist of 4 columns. Entity, ParamName, ParamsValue and ParamiValue. This table stores normalized Late Fee related parameters for apartments. The Entity field contains a code that identifies the apartment complex. The ParamName in a textual field that contains the name of the parameter that the other 2 fields define the value for; ParamsValue and ParamiValue. If the Late Fee parameter (as named in ParamName is something numerical then the value for that parameter can be found in ParamiValue else its in ParamsValue.
I don't know if 'Pivot' is the correct term to use for describing what I am trying to do because I've looked at the Pivot examples and I don't see how that will work for this. Using the Table and data as provided below, how would I construct a query so that I get 1 row per Entity in which the columns are the ParamsValue or ParamiValue for the ParamName listed in the column header (for the query)?
Below is the DDL to create the table and populate it.
USE [DBA_UTIL] CREATE TABLE [dbo].[PARAMEXAMPLE]( [Entity] [varchar](16) NULL,
Counting groups I have the following code that is grouped by name
Mike G ( from 2000 €“ 2003) Address Raise Test 1 Test 1
Mike G ( from 2004 €“ 2007) Address Raise Test 2 1 Test 2 1
Mark G ( from 2004 €“ 2007)
Address Raise Test 2 1 Test 2 1
Total 6 (I get this without any problem)
The problem I am having is trying to find out how many groups we have to use the value for some other calculation. So I did this Count(Field .Name) wich will give me 6 instead of 3 . The reason is in my dataset it will be something like that
Name add raise Period Mike G Test 1 2000-2003 Mike G Test 1 2000-2003 Mike G Test 1 2004-2004 Mike G Test 1 2004-2007 Mike G Test2 1 2004-2007 Mike G Test2 1 2004-2007
If I do CountDistinct(Field .Name) it will give me 2 which is also wrong . So how can I count many groups we have. I spend a lot of time on this please help!
COUNTING NUMBER OF SELECTS MADEtable mytable {id, data, hits}users view data from the table:SELECT data FROM mytable WHERE id=1 --for exampleSELECT data FROM mytable WHERE id=20 --for example....How do increment the hits column without replacing the above with the below?update mytable SET hits=hits+1 WHERE id=1;SELECT data FROM mytable WHERE id=1update mytable SET hits=hits+1 WHERE id=1;SELECT data FROM mytable WHERE id=20....I believe triggers can't be used as they only trigger on update/delete events.I'm using sql server 2000 (latest patches) with aspThanksAlex
I need to transform it into a table which gives a count of the number of subjects at each visit at the end of each month.
For example, in March there will be 1 subject at visit 2. In April, there will be a total of 2 subjects, 1 at visit 1 and 1 at visit 3. In May there will be 2 subjects, 1 at visit 3 and 1 at visit 2, etc.
I'm using SSIS to do bulk inserts from fixed width files to about 20 tables in my SQL database.
The problem I'm running into is in creating Format Files for the bulk insert task to use. I've gotten the bcp command to create format files that will read csv files, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to create one for fixed-width.
I know it can be done: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191234.aspx At the bottom (Section F) it shows an XML format file for reading a fixed-width file. When I manually create one of these to match one of my tables, the bulk insert worked fine.
Closest I've come is with this ( [] bracketed items are correct values, just censored here): C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsBinn>bcp [database].[owner].[table] format nul -c -f C:TableFMT.xml -x -S[Server] -U[Username] -P[Password]
My question is, what is the bcp command to create this sort of XML format file?
I am trying to write to a fixed format flat file using Flat File Destination Data Flow Component. I have all required information gathered from more than one sources. But when I tried to format the columns to a big string that will make up one line in the flat file, I could not figure out how to do that. Couple of issues that I am facing are:
How to padd different columns? For example, One interger column has could be 1 to 10 character long in my case. When I convert to string, dont know how to padd the remaining characters i.e. if the value of integer is '1234', it should be written to file as '1234 ' . Which transformation is best in this case, if available? How to convert T-SQL datetime to a specific date and time format to write in the flate file? I have to write these date formats depending upon one of the parameters passed. Also, I dont want to put a delimiter at the end of each column, just the new line characters at the end of each record. Some of the columns has some unwanted characters (like new line characters) how to find them and remove them from the string. Can we directly write columns to a specific position in the flat file? e.g. col 1 a position 1 and col2 starts at postion 20 etc.
I'm reviewing the CAST function using Microsoft SQL server. I generally understand the functionality, but my confusion lies in the results of a particular script which casts a DateTime value to a fixed-point number.
It is as follows:
DECLARE @From DATETIME DECLARE @To NUMERIC(10,5)
SET @From = '2009-10-11T11:00:00' SET @To = cast(@From AS NUMERIC(10,5))
PRINT @To
This results in: 40095.45833
I am completely lost as to how 40095.45833 = 2009-10-11T11:00:00. I just do not understand the how that fixed point number equates to that source DateTime data.
is there any way to set up a column that has the row count in it? i need this for a program i am developing and this would make it much easier to deal with. I know i can get a total count but when i run a count within a select statement i just get '1' for every row. thanks
select statement joining file1 to file2. File 1 may have 0, 1, or many corresponding rows in file2. I need to count the corresponding rows in table2. Table2 also has a Boolean column and I need to count the number of rows where it is true. So I need to count the total number of matching rows and the count of those that are set to true. This is an example of what I have so far. I had to add each column being selected into a Group by to make it work, but I do not know why. Is there some other way this should be set up.
SELECT c.CarId, c.CarName, c.CarColor, COUNT(t.TrailerId) as trailerCount, (add count of boolian, say t.TrailerFull is true) FROM Car c LEFT JOIN Trailer t on t.CarId = c.CarId GROUP BY c.CarId, c.CarName, c.CarColor
Hi everyone,Does exist an easy way to count the actually number of queries executed within a page?I've searched here and in google but found anything...Thanks in advance!
If I had a basic table with 3 VARCHAR fields; let's say A, B, C
How could I write a query that returns the count of the number of NULL columns for every record in a table?
Ideally, it would be something like:
SELECT CAST (A IS NULL) AS INTEGER + CAST (B IS NULL) AS INTEGER + CAST (C IS NULL) AS INTEGER FROM MyTable
That doesn't work at all. I can't seem to do "IS NULL" in the SELECT area. Should I write a T-SQL user-defined function that takes all three columns as parameters? Would that be performance friendly for large data sets?
