Create Table SQL 2000-&&>2005

Jan 27, 2006

I have some simple sql that I use to create tables in a database in 2000. Have done it many times, many sql 2000 instances are fresh installs. Now on a 2005 fresh install it doesn't work<br>

USE MyDB
GO

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

CREATE TABLE "care"."MyObjects"
(
"DId" integer NULL ,
"MyObjectID" integer NOT NULL ,
"idType" integer NULL ,
"name" varchar(64) NULL ,
"description" varchar(1024) NULL ,
CONSTRAINT "pk_MyObject" PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED ("MyObjectID"),

)

go

I get "The specified schema name "care" either does not exist or you do
not have permission to use it."

I have used the db owner, sa both to try and create the tables using 90/Tools/Binn/OSQL.exe but no go. What am I missing ?

Thanks

How Do I Create A SQL 2005 Database From A SQL 2000

Aug 23, 2007

I have a SQL 2000 database on one server that I'm trying to transfer to a new server.  The new server has Small Business Server R2 Premium Edition, which includes SQL 2005.
I tried to transfer the database in the normal way that I'd create a copy database, which was: -1.   Backup the source database2.   Create a new database (empty) in the new server3.   Restore to this database from the backup taken in #1.
Of course on previous occasions I wasn't changing version, but I expected that this would either fail immediately (message "incorrect version" or some such), or else work.
At first this appeared to transfer OK.  It took about 20 minutes to create the backup (just over 5GB), and about the same time to restore it.  The restore terminated with a message "Database has been restored successfully").    However, the database's icon in Management Studio's Object explorer showed a little up arrow, and alongside the database name "(restoring ....)". Clicking on the database icon did not expand it.  3 hours later it still was like this.   Examining the server showed zero activity.
I expect that it's failed, and I should delete the new "(restoring...)" database and start again.  How should I create this SQL 2005 database?

Create XML In ASP.NET 2.0 Then Use For Joined Table In SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure

Jun 11, 2006

Here's my problem:I'm developing an ASP.NET 2.0 application that has a user select one or moreauto manufacturers from a listbox ("lstMakes"). Once they do this, anotherlistbox ("lstModels") should be filled with all matching models made by theselected manufacturers. If lstMakes was not multi-select, I'd have noproblem. But in this case it has to be multi-select. The database is SQLServer 2005 which does not accept arrays as parameters. I've been told thatI have to create an XML document that will act as a filtered Manufacturerstable that I can join to my Models table in my stored procedure. Problem isI don't have the foggiest idea how to do this. I've seen some examples thatjust leave me scratching my head so I was hoping someone could look at whatI'm trying to do and show me how to do this. Thanks!

Unable To Create Subscriber On A 2000 Server From A 2005 Server Publisher

Dec 1, 2006

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a transactional replication from SQl Server 2005 to SQl server 2000. The Distributor and the publisher are on our server and the subscription is supposed to be on a SQL 2000 server on a different location. Before upgrading to 2005 I didn't have problems - the replication from 2000 to 2000 was working perfectly.

After I succesfully created the distributor and the publication the first problem that I encountered was that when I tried to create the subscription it was giving me an error that I cannot use an IP to acces the server. I realized to fix that issue by creating an Alias in the SQL Server Configuration Manager for the server where I wanted to create the subscription (a push subscription).

Now when I try to add the subscriber it gives me another message "Execute permission denied on object 'sp_MS_replication_installed', database 'master', owner 'dbo'" - so I cannot create the subscriber.

The user that I use to create the subscriber on the 2000 server is dbo for the subscriber database but it doesn't have rights on the master database. Also I realized that on the 2000 server I still have the old subscription but I cannot delete it - for the same reason - no access on the master database. Before upgrading to 2005 I had the exact same rights on the 2000 server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

SSIS 2005: Dynamically Create Data Flow Dest Table If It Does Not Exist?

Sep 20, 2007

Hi all,

I am looking for a way to leave a Data Flow Task destination table name as-is, and have SSIS auto-create the table if it doesn't exist already.

I searched on this in the forums but based on the question it's difficult to kow if it has been answered or not.

Details:

I am writing some SSIS packages that need to be executable on another server. Many of the Data Flow Tasks copy data (such as from a Fuzzy Grouping transformation, and lots of other stuff) into a new table. But the other server will not have these tables set up for the first run.

My current solution is to check information_schema.tables and drop IF EXISTS. But, then the Data Flow Task will not work (becase table does not exist). So, I script to new window a create table statement based on the existing table that I use in my dev environment. This is a hack and I want to find a better method.

It is quite possible (although unlikely) that the source columns could be changed in the future, or some query used to pull the data might be modified. If this happens, then I would need to change the CREATE TABLE Execute SQL task. I want my package to accommodate without having to modify it.

When I use the Import/Export Wizard, I can select a table name from the drop down list OR type in a new name. When I type in the new name, it assumes I want to create the table. NOW, is there a way to mimic this in BI Developer Studio? Yep, I saved the Wizard version of the SSIS package and all it does is run a CREATE TABLE statement first.

I am looking for a way to leave a Data Flow Task destination table name as-is, and have SSIS auto-create the table if it doesn't exist already.

Any ideas?

Transactional Replication : SQL 2000 To 2005. Add New Table

Mar 2, 2007

I have a publication on 2000 machine, replicating by pull subscription to a 2005 machine. I added a table to the Articles in the publication. Reinitialized the subscription, and also restarted both the snapshot and log reader agent. I was kind of assuming the publication would automatically create the table on the subscriber, but after a very long wait it is still not there. Am I missing anything?

PS. Distination Object setting : "Action if name is in use" is set to drop and create new, not that that should make any difference since name is not in use anyway.

Thanks

Migrating Database Table Data From 2005 To 2000

Apr 20, 2007

I'm trying to get a database from SQL2005 to SQL2000. I already recreated the database in SQL2005 and I'm just trying to get some data from just a few tables.

It doesn't appear the DTS or any export functionality is available in my version of SQL Express 2005...so how do I do this. I've tried installing everything I can find.

I've also tried BCP but I keep getting these errors:

SQLState = 08001, NativeError = 53
Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53].
SQLState = HYT00, NativeError = 0
Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Login timeout expired
SQLState = 08001, NativeError = 53
Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

This is a LOCAL database and I have tried -T for trusted, I have also tried a username and password combination. The database is set to Allow Remote connections. Nothing is working.

0x80040E37 Table Does Not Exist At The Source - Transferring 2000 To 2005

Nov 28, 2007

Hi All, I've got a problem transferring objects between SQL Databases.
The source database is an SQL 2000 dbase, and the destination is a local SQL2005 instance. When trying to transfer I get the error:
0x80040E37 (table) does not exist at the source - but it does.

I am guessing its a schema related issue, I've tried setting the copyschema setting to true, but no joy.
The copyallschemas function doesn't work with an SQL 2000 box so its set to false.

Thanks,
Morgan.

Create Table From Text File, Extract Data, Create New Table From Extracted Data....

May 3, 2004

Hello all,

Please help....

I have a text file which needs to be created into a table (let's call it DataFile table). For now I'm just doing the manual DTS to import the txt into SQL server to create the table, which works. But here's my problem....

I need to extract data from DataFile table, here's my query:

select * from dbo.DataFile
where DF_SC_Case_Nbr not like '0000%';

Then I need to create a new table for the extracted data, let's call it ExtractedDataFile. But I don't know how to create a new table and insert the data I selected above into the new one.

Also, can the extraction and the creation of new table be done in just one stored procedure? or is there any other way of doing all this (including the importation of the text file)?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Default Table Owner Using CREATE TABLE, INSERT, SELECT && DROP TABLE

Nov 21, 2006

For reasons that are not relevant (though I explain them below *), Iwant, for all my users whatever privelige level, an SP which createsand inserts into a temporary table and then another SP which reads anddrops the same temporary table.My users are not able to create dbo tables (eg dbo.tblTest), but arepermitted to create tables under their own user (eg MyUser.tblTest). Ihave found that I can achieve my aim by using code like this . . .SET @SQL = 'CREATE TABLE ' + @MyUserName + '.' + 'tblTest(tstIDDATETIME)'EXEC (@SQL)SET @SQL = 'INSERT INTO ' + @MyUserName + '.' + 'tblTest(tstID) VALUES(GETDATE())'EXEC (@SQL)This becomes exceptionally cumbersome for the complex INSERT & SELECTcode. I'm looking for a simpler way.Simplified down, I am looking for something like this . . .CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.TestInsert ASCREATE TABLE tblTest(tstID DATETIME)INSERT INTO tblTest(tstID) VALUES(GETDATE())GOCREATE PROCEDURE dbo.TestSelect ASSELECT * FROM tblTestDROP TABLE tblTestIn the above example, if the SPs are owned by dbo (as above), CREATETABLE & DROP TABLE use MyUser.tblTest while INSERT & SELECT usedbo.tblTest.If the SPs are owned by the user (eg MyUser.TestInsert), it workscorrectly (MyUser.tblTest is used throughout) but I would have to havea pair of SPs for each user.* I have MS Access ADP front end linked to a SQL Server database. Forreports with complex datasets, it times out. Therefore it suit mypurposes to create a temporary table first and then to open the reportbased on that temporary table.

Copying Table Data From SQL Server 2005 To SQL Server 2000 - Very Slow When Using OLEDB Source And Destination Sources?

May 8, 2006

An SSIS package to transfer data from a DB instance on SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2000 is extremely slow. The package uses an OLEDB Source to OLEDB Destination for data transfer which is basically one table from sql server 2005 to sql server 2000. The job takes 5 minutes to transfer about 400 rows at night when there is very little activity on the server. During the day the job almost always times out.

On SQL Server 200 instances the job ran in minutes in the old 2000 package.

Is there an alternative to this. Tranfer Objects task does not work as there is apparently a defect according to Microsoft. Please let me know if there is any other option other than using a Execute 2000 package task or using an ActiveX Script to read records from one source and to insert them into the destination source, which I am not certain how long it might take and how viable will that be?

Any inputs will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

MShah

Create INDEX Within CREATE TABLE DDL

Jan 27, 2006

Hi Minor and inconsequential but sometimes you just gotta know: Is it possible to define a non-primary key index within a Create Table statement? I can create a constraint and a PK. I can create the table and then add the index. I just wondered if you can do it in one statement. e.g. I have: CREATE TABLE MyT (MyT_ID INT Identity(1, 1) CONSTRAINT MyT_PK PRIMARY KEY Clustered, MyT_Desc Char(40) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyT_idx1 UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ON [DEFAULT])which creates a table with a PK and unique constraint. I would like (pseudo SQL):CREATE TABLE MyT (MyT_ID INT Identity(1, 1) CONSTRAINT MyT_PK PRIMARY KEY Clustered, MyT_Desc Char(40) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT MyT_idx1 UNIQUE INDEX NONCLUSTERED ON [DEFAULT]) No big deal - just curious :D Once I know I can stop scouring BOL for clues. SQL 2005 Thinks A SQL 2000 Backup Is Corrupt, But SQL 2000 Restores Just Fine

Jul 19, 2007

I am attempting to move some SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005. My main production database does not seem to want to move. When I use the SQL 2005 GUI the .bak backup file is marked 'Incomplete'. When I attempt to restore the backup file I get a 'RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database' message. I saw a thread in the SQL Express forum suggesting trying to restore from the T-SQL level to get the GUI out of the picture and I get the same 'error on page (0:0)' message. However when I take the same file and use SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager it restores with no problems.

Any ideas?

Bit-data From SQL Server 2000 (2005 Working, 2000 Doesn't)

May 19, 2008

 Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring             <SelectParameters>                <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" />            </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000?  (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael
