Create A Grants Rights Script Error In Rs Db Configaration

Feb 8, 2007

Hi,

While I'm trying to configure rs db configuration, I€™m getting "Create a Grants Rights Script" error when I click Apply button in rs configuration UI.

For this setup; I€™m using 32-bit rs on 64-bit windows 2003 server and trying to connect 64-bit sql db instance on a different 64-bit box . both boxes are in same windows domain. I could also able to create rs db from rs configuration UI successfully. I'm using sql sa credentials and installed SQL SP1 on both boxes. Pl let me know how to fix this error.

Complate error message is,

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800706BA): The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

Dec 18, 2007

Im working on a setup/deployment project where i have to attatch a database to sqlexpress.
The problem im faceing is that i cant use a Trusted connection as the user doesn't have administrator rights.
Is there a way of creating a user when sqlexpress is installed (this is done as administrator) that have the right to create/attatch databases to the sqlexpress instance?

What roles does that user need? Dbcreator is enought?

Reporting Services Migration - Create Grant Rights Script: Failed

Dec 14, 2007

Hi,

We moved a development reporting services database to a new server last night and followed the MS 'Moving a Report Server Database to another computer' directions. We used the Reporting Services Config tool to make the changes, remoted into the 2003 windows server - which is running sql Enterprise reporting and connecting to a 2005 Enterprise cluster.

We had two small problems - although everything seems to be working fine. The First try seemed to be unsuccessful because we did have the service started after applying the database connection changes. The directions don't mention starting the service before you hit apply. The second time we got an error that said "Create Grant Rights Script - The Task Failed". We entered a sql login that was a sysAdmin during the setup.

The exception details started off with:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied

If the rest of this error is needed I can type it out...I was sent a screen shot of it!
Thanks for any help - we are moving production soon and I'd like to understand what went wrong.
Thanks
Sam

Title-Reporting services configuration manager

Error-There was an error refreshing the UI. bla bla bla

A WMI error has occurred and no additional error information is availiable

Title-Reporting services configuration manager

Error-There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an error retrieving WMI properties. bla bla bla

then when he's in sql server 2005 surface area configuation

Error Logon Failed - SSRS Service User Account Rights

Jun 12, 2006

I am facing a problem which is based on the restrictions on the domain of the customer. After deplyoing the report on the server we are getting the following error message in the report manager after executing (clicking) a report link:

Logon failed.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)

I googled for that and it seems to be an authentication issue where some user / account is not granted to log on as service / locally, but the problems is better described than the solutions. Did anyone faced that problem so far ? Which account has to be granted what priviledges or permissions in Windows. We are using a SQL Server 2005 / Reporting Services 2005 running on the same machine whereas the virtual directories Reports and Reportserver are running in a separate Application Pool

Thanks,

Thomas

ESSENTIAL PERMISSION GRANTS For SQL Database

Jan 17, 2008

I am developing a web site with asp.net 2.0 and c#, using Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 ( I am still learning about these technologies and languages ).
I transferred my web site files to my NEW computer.
The web site worked fine when running inside Visual Studio, however when I tried to run it in its PUBLISHED format it was giving this error message:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Server Error in '/MA' Application.
Cannot open database "SiteData" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'CENTAURUSASPNET'.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I solved the problem by running SQL Server Management Stdio, right clicking “SiteData database -> properties -> permissions->view server permissions then I chose “CENTAURUSASPNET and since I DID NOT KNOW what grants are ESSENTIAL for the functioning of the database, I GRANTED EVERYTHING ( I ticked ALL the permissions).
But since, probably, a lot of GRANTS are not only unnecessary but also may compromise the security of the web site, I would like to know what are the ESSENTIAL OR MINIMUM GRANTS NECESSARY for making the database functional to the web site and what GRANTS may compromise security.

Permissions Grants, Denies Don't Take Effect

Sep 11, 2006

Hi,

I'm trying to grant/deny object permissions in a user database using Enterprise Manager and query tool without success (for €˜public€™ role and individual sql logins). I€™m not getting any error messages. Permission changes just don€™t take effect. Although, there are few objects, which already have permissions granted and I'm able to change permissions for these ones.

How can I change the permissions?

Error: 5123 CREATE FILE Encountered Operating System Error 5A(Access Denied.)

Mar 22, 2006

HI ,

This is a problem I encountered when I had to detach a database file (type .mdf):

1) I went to the MS SQL Management Server Studi and detached my database file successfully from a connection called Workhorse.

2) I needed to place the .mdf database file into a zip file in order to put it on a remote server. I did this using Shared Portal. This was also successful

3) However when I tried reattaching the database file, I got this error:

CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5A(Access denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file "CProgram FilesMSSQL ServerMSSQLData<databasename>.mdf'

Q) The database file and log file (ldf) exist in the correct directory so I don't know what happened. Can any one help?

Thanks much

Sa Rights

Jul 8, 1999

Hello, I need to create a sp that allows a user(not sa) to reset passwords using sp_password. The part that I'm stuck on is how to login within the proc so that the user(not sa) can exec the sp_password as sa without having to give the user sa rights. I don't mind hard coding the sa password with the proc but I can not give sa password to the users. Do I need to somehow alter sp_password for this to work?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

SA Rights

Jan 29, 2004

Is there a way in SQL server to grant "SA" rights to non-SA users for certain commands.

I know there's a way to do this in Sybase by creating a password protected role and then activating it within a stored procedure.

Thus, the specific right is only active for the brief duration of the stored procedure - which runs the particular command to be granted. The role is de-activated at the end of the stored procedure.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Isaac

DBA Role And His Rights

Oct 30, 2001

Hi everybody,
The below I posted on SQL 2000 Forum about a week ago.
Any new thoughts................
I would like to get an input from as many people as possible on the following:
In our organization DBA is responsible for 5 servers ( currently NT 4/SQL 7)and is a part of group of a 5 people including manager and 3 developers.
DBA currently has a FULL access to every server.
In a few months we will be replacing the existing system with Windows 2000/SQL 2000.
LAN group will give to DBA only a read rights for the Windows 2000 environment, saying that the AUDITORS, both internal and external, require that. In other words, if DBA needs to run a command prompt, move files from one directory to another in Production environment, he has to fill the request to LAN, so LAN group would do that.
So I guess the main question(s) is:
What is the degree of involmment of DBA with Operating system?
Is DBA suppose to be an NT administrator ( I dont think so, since DBA has a lot of other thing to do?
If DBA accidently makes an unwanted changes to the Operating System, who should be blamed for ( not personally, but in more general terms) and would it be an extra argument to take write rights away from a DBA?
What auditors saying about that?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Andrei

Question About DBA Rights

Apr 11, 2002

Here is a debated question:

Does the DBA need admin rights?

They are not responsible for the server, user accounts, software updates of any kind or odbc configurations. This is controlled by the LANWAN server support group.

With the assigned SYSADMIN role, service account as local administrator, they have NTFS permissions the the DATAApplication partition and rights to stop and start all related services to SQL.

They can also access event viewer, performance monitor and other MMC snap-ins as read only.

Can they do required functions?

Thanks,

RJ

Why A DBA Needs Sa Access Rights

Jul 18, 2002

I remember seeing a document on this site a couple of years ago that explained reasons why a DBA needs sa access rights. I can go into BOL and generate a list of things you can only do with sa rights. However the article I am looking for was well written, much better than I could do.

My infrastructure team has decided that the DBA's and Sr. Developers will not have sa access rights. All schema changes, stored proc creation, view creation, database backups, maintenance plans, etc will go through their server engineers. They do not understand what they are getting into.

Does anyone have a nice document that would aid me in my efforts to convince the Infrastructure group to change their "new" policy?

Thanks for any info!!

Jeff

SQL Agent Rights

If I connect with SQL Management Studio to a server I cannot open or change SQL Agent jobs. (I can see them, but if I ask properties it opens a new job window).

At home I have no problem managing jobs.

I also cannot stop or start the SQL Agent.

What rights do I need? I am not in a domain, but with using the same username and password on my laptop as on the server and I have no problem connecting, add/changes databases and such.
