I would like create in a table (A) a column with a formula's data.
In this formula I would like implement 2 fields from a Table (B)
So the formula can be :
[TABLE_B].[FIELD1] + [TABLE_B].[FIELD2]
Is it possible?
We can call 2 fields from a other table?

What is the syntax on calling a function from a column formula in an MS SQL table.
I created a table, one column's value will be coming from a function. And at the same time, I will pass parameters to the function. How do I do this? Is this correct?

I need to create a table that only allows fields to be updated if the field value is NULL. Is there anyway to configure a table in this manner?
In the example below the record will be created with a serial number and verification ready flag set to true. Other processes down stream will update the remaining fields as needed but should not update fields that have already been initialized.

I am developing a asp.net app and I have a long, very long list of data fields.
The values of the data fields have to be saved to a SQL database. The list is so long that it a pain in the ass to have to write all the code even to declare an object and all its properties by hand. So...
I made a list of all the field names and types and load it all up in an array. Then I wrote a bunch of macros to write all the properties one by one with the corredt type for the object I needed to create instead of doing it all one by one by hand.
I want to do the same thing with the Database. I dont want to have to hand define all the fiedls 1 by 1 by hand in the IDE. I want to write a simple macro, a loop theat loops thru my array and creates a field with the field name and type that it says in the array.
Simple enough.. Now I have the table defined already since that was simple enough. It is the 200 ++ fields that I dont wanna do.
So, please what is the code I need (in VB) to create 1 simple field in an existing table. Say the table is called "Table1" in the database "Database1" and the field I want is to be called "Field1" and to be 250 chr string..... ???

I have a table called test with 4 fields namley studentname, Mark1, Mark2, total (formula column).
Created table test in the following structure,

I have tried to add them in through the Enterprise manager design table but experiencing some problems. The adding process seemed never going to be end. Is there any good efficient way to do it??? I have a record in an Excel format (Excel 2010) and I would like to bulk import that into SQL Server 2008 and also while importing, SQL Server will automatically create a new table based on the header fields or row of the source file.
I am not sure if SQL Server 2008 has this capabilities.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a sql stored procedure inside this proc it returns some information about the user, i.e location, logged in, last logged in, etc I need to join this on to the photos table and return the photo which has been set as the profile picture, if it hasn't been set then return the first top 1 if that makes sense?
The user has the option to upload photos so there might be no photos for a particular user, which I believe I can fix by using a left join
My photos table is constructed as follows:

Most but not all tables have a column called "LastUpdated" containing a date/time (obviously). I'd like to be able to find all rows within a whole database (table by table) where the date/time is greater than a specified date/time.
I'm looking for a reliable query that will return all the rows in each of the tables but without me having to write hundreds of individual scripts "SELECT * FROM [dbo.xyz] WHERE LastUpdated > '2015-01-01 09:00:00:000'", or have to look through each table first to determine which of them has the LastUpdated field.

I have downloaded the SQL Server Books online and found the section on Computed columns. In my small banking program I have columns named Deposit/Withdrawel and Balance. If I am reading this right I need to set the Computed Column Specification of my Balance Column in order to perform the calculation. My problem now is that I have no idea how to word the formula and other than telling me what a formula is the SQL Server Books online is no help whatsoever, so any help would be awesome.

While inserting a record into a table I need one field to be created based on a stored procedure output.The stored procedure will create something like this, "XX-mm-yyyy-incremental number which resets to zero at the end of every month". All other field except the Identity field and the above mentioned storeproc generated field will be inputted manually. How can I do this?

I know the column is computed and I can see the formula in SSMS. I wanted to do this in T-SQL. How to get this value?
I want to create a computed column with this formula:
ISNULL(NULLIF (tot_mnc, 0) / NULLIF (repl_value, 0), 0)
It works in a straight select query, but when I put it in the formula of the table design window, I get an error "Error validating the formula for column 'test_fci'"
I don't know if it's relevant but repl_value is itself a computed column with the formula:
(repl_value_e_g + repl_value_aux)
Is it possible to use the system functions in a computed column? If not, how would I pass those values into a udf and use it for the formula?
