Hi, everyone, I am new in SQL server 2005. I had setup SQL server 2005 P2P replication. Somehow it did not work one of two way replication. I tried to delete the publication. However I could not do it. have the same problem. When I tried to delete the publication, I got the publication " " does not exist.[SQL server error: 20026]. I tried to use sp_droppublication, it gave me error "the database is not enabled for publication". Nevertheless, I can see the publication in MS SQL Management Studio and Publication monitor with OK status. I could not find the distribution database either.
Could you anyone has ideas to delete this publication? I am sorry I am not a programmer. Please give me more detail explanation if you can. Thanks.
have upgraded to SQL Server 2005 from 2000 ( to 9.0.1399).
The database seems to be functioning in order, however - I am unable to crerate a publication in order to replciate the database.
I am using the New Publication Wizard and see the follwoing error:
TITLE: New Publication Wizard ------------------------------
New Publication Wizard encountered one or more errors while retrieving the list of articles on 'nld_tradeinvoicing'. The list of articles may not be complete.

Anyone know an easy way to generate the SQL Scripts to gererate the tables/sp's/triggers/indexes/fk's, ect? I know Sql Server 2000 lets you generate the db script, but I don't know how to do this with 2005
Hello,I use the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I want to create a new database, but I cant find where and how.Can anyone provide me with starter's tips and/or a good tutorial? Thanks!
I've created a database in sql server 2005, but now I need to detach this database and attach it in sql express. Is this possible? I keep getting an error that my database is readonly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have installed on my PC Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition which installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. In addition I downloaded and installed SQL Server Management Studio Express(SSME).
Now using SSME I can connect into SQL server express with the default login that was created by the installation. I want to create a new login:
Right click on Security > New > Login
I filled in all the details. However, when I click OK I get the following error:
Create failed for Login 'Mauriceewlogin'. Windows NT user or group 'Mauriceewlogin' not found. Check the name again.
Please, help. I am getting fraustrated with this error.
I have a database called 'DB1' in SQL Server 2000. I want to create the same database in SQL Server 2005 Express including the original data in tables. How would I do that? I cannot find any option to do this upgrade in SQL Server Management Studio.
My PC is Window XP Pro and I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. My question is how to create a login userid and password under "SQL Server Authentication"? (as shown in http://www.findingsteve.net/print_screen.jpg) Any tutorial about this I can read?
I installed SQL Server Express 2005 and was able to install the sample databases. I have been working through the on-line tutorial. In Lesson 4 of the tutorial it instructs you to select File, New, Project. However, when I select File, New there is no Project choice listed. Have I failed to install something correctly?
hi i have a database file backup which is having no extension (eg saims) . Can i create a database using this backup in sql server expression edition. Or else is there any way to get the .mdf file from sql server 2005 full edition?????????????? Thanx in advance
I have a script that performs an unattended installation of SQL Server and works fine.
However, if I un-install via the control panel all the files are removed apart from the databases that are created by me when SQl server was installed. This is good and ensures data is not deleted.
The files left over are in the following directory: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData and contains: MyDatabase.mdf MyDatabase_log.LDF
The problem I have is after performing the re-installtion of SQL server (unattended) I am unable to create a new database with the same name (in this instance called "myDatabase").
The actual files are physically there so this is the reason a new database with the same name cannot be creacted.
Again this is ok again because it ensures I cannot overwrite existing data. However I am unable to re-attach this database to SQl server so I can continue to use it!
The question is:
How do I make this database usable again after an unattended install? Is there a parameter I am missing?
Below are the commands I use that are passed to the installation of SQL Server as command line parameters:
The last four commands I have played around with but for some reason SQL Server service will not start when these are used! (This is a different issue though!).
I've recently gone through installing and setting up merge replication on Server 2005 Standard. All working.
I am now setting up a different box with SQL 2005 Workgroup with SP2. When I go to the Replication tab in Management Studio there is only Local Subscriptions - No Local Publications.
I've re-run the installation but I can't see how Publications is not getting installed orwhy it is missing.
I found a bug in Management Studio, which can be reproduced with following steps:
1. Create a new publication with the 'New Publication Wizard' 2. Select a database which contains at least 2 tables. 3. Select 'transactional publicatioon' 4. Select at least 2 tables as articles 5. Set article properties for all table articles 6. Change 'Statement Delivery' to 'Insert statement', 'Update statement' and 'Delete statement' and save the article properties. 7. If you now check the properties for a single article you find that the 'Statement Delivery' is set to 'Do not replicate...'. If you generate this publication and create a subscritpion you will see, that actual no replication take place.
It took me a while to find out why my replication doesn't work! :-((
i had configured a merge replication betwen 2 server and i was running fine. but due to network problems my network admin has changed the ip address and name of the publisher, distributor and subscriber.
what i did. i just drop the publication and now i m trying to create a new one. but i cannt' able to create. i dont' know y.. this is the error i m facing..

When go to set up a new publication I get the below error:
TITLE: New Publication Wizard ------------------------------

SQL Server replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through a server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, ''. (Replication.Utilities)
------------------------------ BUTTONS:
OK ------------------------------
I am specfing the server name but it still brings back the same error, the message at the bottom also stats to try and connect to '' which of course is impossible. This is a domain controller if that makes any difference, SQL 2005 SP2, Win 2003 STD.
Subscription to "Transactional Publication with Updateable Subscriptions" works only one way. Changes take effect on subscriber, but the subcriber is unable to update data on publisher.
I have Sanpshot Agent process running under SQL Server Agent service account with login 'sa.' All agents are running at the Distributor (Publishing Server.)
The subscriber is unable to connect to the Distributor using the SQL Server login.
Following is the error message I get:
Creating Subscription(s)...
- Creating subscription for 'SQL3' (Warning)
Messages
Unable to set the Publisher login for the updatable subscription. You may have to set this up directly on the Subscriber machine using sp_link_publication. (New Subscription Wizard)
After upgrading SQL Server 2005 with the recent service pack, I am unable to create a publication. When I right-click on [INSTANCE]/Replication/Local Publications and select "New Publication...," the mouse cursor turns into an hourglass, but the wizard never shows up, nor is any error displayed.
There is a logged error that's been showing up that may or may not be related. The error message is "Replication-(null): agent (null) scheduled for retry. Could not clean up the distribution history tables."
Any ideas on how we can restore replication functionality on our SQL Server instance?
When I installed VS 2005, it installed the default version of SQL Server 2005 Express that ships with Visual Studio 2005 installer media.
How can apply SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to update this existing instance?
Currently, if I run this query:
SELECT @@version
I get the following:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
After applying SP1, I should get 9.00.2047.00.
Should I just go to this link and download & install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1:
First of all; My Oracle publication works fine when I don't explicit specify the shema_option parameter for the articles I'm adding to the publication. The reason why I then want to explicit specify the parameter is as following.
I'm developing a replication solution to get data from our production server (Oracle) to our Data Warehouse (SQL Server). The SQL Server (and the Data Warehouse code) uses the SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation. When I don't explicit specify the schema_option, the nvarchar columns of the replicated tables are created using the SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS collation and this results in some comparison errors, when for instance a select statement is trying to compare two nvarchar strings using different collations.
I've tried to specify the schema_option parameter as "@schema_option = 0x80" (Replicates primary key constraints.) to avoid the use of the SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS collation when creating the destination tables - I'm not sure it's enough? No matter what, I'm getting an error when I'm doing it (see below).
Message 2006-07-13 12:00:15.529 Applied script 'ITEMTRANSLATION_2.sch' 2006-07-13 12:00:15.544 Bulk copying data into table 'ITEMTRANSLATION' 2006-07-13 12:00:15.544 Agent message code 20037. The process could not bulk copy into table '"ITEMTRANSLATION"'. 2006-07-13 12:00:15.591 Category:NULL Source: Microsoft SQL Native Client Number: 208 Message: Invalid object name 'ITEMTRANSLATION'. 2006-07-13 12:00:15.591 Category:NULL Source: Number: 20253
The questions are now whether I actually have a schema_option alternative for Oracle Publishing? If so, what is the solution, and eventually how can I avoid the error stated above?
If I'm not able to avoid the article columns getting created with the "wrong" collation, is there then any other obviously solution to the problem?
When running the create publication wizard, I get:
"Error 14294 - Supply either @Job_id or @Job_Name to identify the job"
I had pubs & subs set up, but things were erroring, so I tried deleting everything and wanted to start from scratch, but the last step in the wizard gets me stuck.
Is it ok to clear the tables in the Distribution database that have info from earlier attempts at setting things up ?
Is there a way to delete the distribution database & really start from scratch ?
Hi,I am trying to use Enterprise Manager Wizard to create a newPublication database but I got the following message.Error 2812: Could not find stored procedureMyDB.dbo.sp_MSadd_logreader_agentThere seems that some replication stored procedures.Any help? Thanks in Advance
Hi everyone In my SqlServer Management Studio Express, on start up it shows the server type option, but greyed. So that value is fixed to database engine. ( I'm trying to work on an SqlServer Compact Edition database through the SSMStudiothat's why I'm trying to get this to change.)Besides, after I connect i go to the Object Explorer, expand the server node, and go to Replication. When i expand replication, i get the "Local Subscription" option, but nothng for Publication.( I want to work on Merge Replication, that's why I desparately need Publication to work)Am i missing something here? I did not install SqlServer separately, I only have what comes bundled with the Visual Studio 2005 Setup.
How do I create a new db in sql 2005 express useing manager express? I'm used to mySql front and this is my first try at sql.
Also, does anyone know of a link(s) on the vast msdn website that explains how to use this software? All I've found so far, are a lot of pages telling what it can do not how to do it.
I'd appreceate any help, I want to get started on this .
Help me please! I've installed SQL Express 2005 on my XP. I'm trying to create a database but I keep getting the error no matter what I do.

If i have been using sql server 2005 express for developing my application and i decide to upgrade to sql server 2005 express with advanced services while still working on the same application, what will happen to my application's database. Can i be able to continue with my work with out any major regrets.
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.
Hi, Apologies if this has been asked before, i've done a search but can't find a definitive answer. I've created a table in an SQLExpress 2005 db using Server Managment Studio Express. My intention is to use GUID fields as surrogate PK's. I therefore wanted to add a additional index to prevent duplicate records being added to the table. Not having used SQLServer before could someone confirm or deny that this is the correct way to do this. The PK field [EPISODEID{unique identifier}] is set as a non-clustered index. And i've created a second clustered index using the two fields that create a unique record. I've added a screen shot if that is any help.
I am learning SQL on my own computer and I am having difficult creating a new DataBase. I am using SQL Server Manabgement Studio Express. I installed it as an administrator; however, the software states that I do not have the proper permission. When I attempt to create a new DB, I get a message stating

Hi Guys, I created a Product database table using Visual Basic 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005 Express. I have just added a new column [Picture] to the database table, which of course, should store an image or picture of a product. I am writing to kindly ask you guys for help .
i) How do I include image files into this column [Picture]? ii) How do I get this image to display on Visual Basic 2005 Express form, so that when a product is selected the product image is displayed accordingly?
