On Administrator session, I have created an CUSTOMER MSDE database. That's OK.
On user session, I want to access on my database CUSTOMER but I have on error : "Unable to connect to the database". And, in French : "Echec de la connexion de l'utilisateur Machine_Name/User_Name".
What is the error ? I don't know what to do any more.
How to give right to the user ? Have you an idea ?

I'm a newbie with SQL so excuse my igorance. I'm running an application that uses MSDE2000 as its source db and would like to create a small [10 field] db that would also use MSDE. I want to use a separate db though and not share the first one. What I'm looking for is suggestions on a development tool to create the database with as I'm not familiar with SQL tools. I have a lot of Access experience though so the concepts are not new.
Database requirements are pretty basic.
10 fields [8 text, 2 numeric] A button field to Add New Record A search field Column sorting.
That's it. I could do this in a pinch with Access so knowing what tool to use should make it easy. Any chance that I could do it with Access and then port it to a SQL db?
HOW TO GET A FILE'S CREATE DATE?? From SqlServer I need the create date of a file on C or D. Is there a function or code to retrieve the create date, or an API that could read and pass back the file's creation date???
Hi,I'm a newbie to sql server and this may be a really dumb question forsome you. I'm trying to find some examples of sql server triggers thatwill set columns (e.g. the created and modified date columns) if the rowis being inserted and set a column (e.g. just the modified date column)if the row is being updated.I know how to do this in oracle plsql. I would define it as a beforeinsert or update trigger and reference old and new instances of therecord. Does sql server have an equivalent? Is there a better way to dothis in sql server?Thanksericthis is what i do in oracle that i'm trying to do in sqlserver...CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER tr_temp_biubefore insert or updateon tempreferencing old as old new as newfor each rowbeginif inserting then:new.created_date := sysdate;end if;:new.modified_date := sysdate;end tr_temp_biu;
I am trying to modify the files path (primary file, log file) of databases, but it looks like I am not able to mofidy their files path directly from the database property dialogue? Would please any experts here give me some ideas on what else can I try to figure it out? Thanks a lot in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
After replicating a database, the stored procedures in that same database are not able to edit by other users than service account (sys admin users), When the normal users try to edit any of the stored procedures, sql server 2005 is throwing the following error...

I simply want to edit and data I have in a database that I made with Express Manager. This worked before .Net 2.0. Now, I have the table displayed as a datagrid with an "edit" pushbutton associated with each row in the database table. When I click on the "edit" pushbutton to edit a specific row in the database table, instead of posting me to a page where the chosen row is editable, I am posted back to the same page without the chosen row availible to be edited. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? I am totally new to this so any help would be appreciated. I have replaced the installation of MSDE 1.0 with MSDE 2000.
Prior to installation of MSDE 2000, I can perform the activities of all database role. Now, I can only add, change and delete data - no more database design.
What should I do to regain database design permission?
I'm using "sa" user with blank password when I login to MS Access Project.
Hello, I have gone to work for a new company and I have seen this company is running out of drive space on a daily basis. The DBA before me created huge databases. For example we have a database that it's created size is 103 GB. Only about 52 GB is ever needed. I know you can resize the tempdb but how about user databases? I have never tried this. Can this be done for a user database?
For tempdb Start SQL from cmd line sqlserver -c -f -s%instance_name% alter databse tempdb modify file
I have 30+ databases in sql 2000. I want to dynalically loop though each of the databases and alter a column named 'EmpName' for all the 'Employees' tables in that database. Here is my attempt.use Master go declare @SQLString Nvarchar(1000) declare @DBName Nvarchar(100) declare @SQL2 NVARCHAR(1000)declare @TABLE_NAME NVarchar(100) DECLARE curDB CURSOR LOCAL FORWARD_ONLY STATIC FOR SELECT name FROM sysdatabases OPEN curDB FETCH NEXT FROM curDB INTO @dbname While @@FETCH_STATUS=0 Begin SET @SQL2 = 'USE ' + @DBNAME + ' ALTER TABLE ' + @TABLE_NAME + ' MODIFY EmpName varchar(100)' from information_schema.tables where table_type = 'BASE TABLE' and table_name like '%Employees%' PRINT @SQL2 EXECUTE SP_EXECUTESQL @SQL2 fetch next from curDB into @DBName end Close curDB End When i execute the above script in master, it says 'Query executed successfully' but when i see the all the Employees table in each of the database, the required change is not made. Can anybody explain this or give an alternate solution?
We are running into the following error while changing a column data type from nvarchar (1200) to varchar(8000) "Msg 1105, Level 17, State 2, Line 1
Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.TBL1 '.'PK_CL_ID' in database 'Client01' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup.
The statement has been terminated."
Now tried to change the filegrowth of the log file to unlimited
ALTER DATABASE Client01 MODIFY FILE ( NAME = Client01_log, MAXSIZE = unlimited);
The query executes without error but I do not see the auto growth as unrestricted. It's still 2GB
I can run this command to make changes for 1 DB USE [master]
GO ALTER DATABASE [DBName] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'Name_log', FILEGROWTH = 10000KB ) GO
Is it possible to create a script which changes log file size to let's say 100MB for all DBs in all servers instead of running the above command by logging into each server? We have about 200 servers and close to 3000 DBs.
I need reflecting changes of csv file in oracle DB. Suppose, I load single csv file in oracle DB which contains 10 rows. After some time, I have loaded another CSV file which has the modified row of the previously loaded csv file. So, how can I capture the CSV changes and how it is going to get reflected in oracle DB?There is no unique column in csv file to identify particular row.
I have a medical records system, SoapWare v4.90, that uses MSDE (SQL2000) databases. Due to the 2gb limitation, I am trying to migrate over to SQL 2005 (Standard or Express) which I have heard works fine. The SoapWare has a datamanager that allows me to log in to the MSDE instance, detach the SoapWare databases from msde (as well as do backups, etc) which I can confirm are detached.
Then I log back into a SQL2005 database instance using the datamanager and try to attach the database. This is what their pictured instructions demonstrate. However, I get the following error:
Database 'sw_charts' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.
Of course, some of the entries will be read only, since doctors have to sign off the charts and are not allowed to subsequently change them. But I should still be able to switch over to sql 2005?!?!?!?
Or... is there a way to attach the databases to SQLExpress manually?
Hi all,Here is my situation.I have an application that uses SQL 2000. The client has a programthat uses MSDE. The client MUST have the MSDE version of the Database. What I have done is to create a SQL 2000 Database that is exactly likethe MSDE version. What I wish to do, is at regularly scheduledintervals, update the SQL 2000 Data with the newest MSDE Data.On my clients server, they have both MSDE and SQL 2000 installedthe msde has a user name and password to access it, whereas the SQL2000 uses authenticated mode to access it.What I'm trying to do is to write a bunch of SQL Queries, that I canrun that will copy over the new Data, but I'm having problems accessingthe msde database in query analyzer from the SQL DatabaseCan anyone give me hints on the best way to try thisThanksScott

I have some code that dynamically creates a database (name is @FullName) andthen creates a table within that database. Is it possible to wrap thesethings into a transaction such that if any one of the following fails, thedatabase "creation" is rolledback. Otherwise, I would try deleting on errordetection, but it could get messy.IF @Error = 0BEGINSET @ExecString = 'CREATE DATABASE ' + @FullNameEXEC sp_executesql @ExecStringSET @Error = @@ErrorENDIF @Error = 0BEGINSET @ExecString = 'CREATE TABLE ' + @FullName + '.[dbo].[Image] ( [ID][int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL, [Blob] [image] NULL , [DateAdded] [datetime]NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]'EXEC sp_executesql @ExecStringSET @Error = @@ErrorENDIF @Error = 0BEGINSET @ExecString = 'ALTER TABLE ' + @FullName + '.[dbo].[Image] WITHNOCHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [PK_Image] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ID] ) ON[PRIMARY]'EXEC sp_executesql @ExecStringSET @Error = @@ErrorEND
I'm new to using SSIS and have been reading and learning slowly how to use it. I'm trying to create an identical copy of our database for reporting. I've used the Import/Export wizard, but have had some issues with foreign keys and with sql_variant columns.
I've tried searching for anything but haven't had any luck as of yet. I guess I don't even know where to start or what to look for.
Downloaded and installed MSDE and just finished creating a website using the Community Starter Kit. I'm used to working with Access Databases and this is my first experience with anything SQL. Can someone provide my with some guidance as to what I need to do to upload the MSDE Database to a server. Can I just upload the files like an Access Database or is this more involved. Thanks for you help.
I'm using Visual Studio.Net enviroment, i have SQL desktop Engine installed and everything is working great. I have a problem that whenever i create a new database connections i can NOT delete it. I know that i have to select the node containing the connection and then press the DEL Key, but it seems that the delete option is not valid!
Hi, I am new to .net, I installed .net sdk and framework. now I downloaded MSDE and installed it, I got this directory : C:MSDERelA but when I double click in the setup file nothing happened, please help me on what should I do . thanks
I installed MSDE and the sample databases with it. They work fine.

When i write my connection string in the program now it doesnt work
I'm running Windows 2003 .NET server (1 year trial) and I have the latest version of MSDE installed. I have WebMatriX II installed. I want to create an MSDE database I can use with a DSN so can use in .ASP or APS.NET. I've successfully created a test database (in Webmatrix II) via Windows Authentication security and have created a DSN via ODBC/Windows Authentication security but don't know how to access in ASP or ASP.NET web page. All the SQL databases I use in .ASP have a DSN, User, Password as connection parameters. I want to continue this process. I ran the command list: setup SAPWD=**secret** SecurityMode=SQL after setting up MSDE SP3. I log into the server as "Administrator" with a password. Question: 1. What am I supposed to use as a ID and Pass if I want to setup a MSDE database in WebMatrix II using SQL Server authentication? Everything I try fails. I was never asked to provide a beginning ID and Pass for SQL(MSDE) Server. 2. What does the connection string look like to access the database in ASP.NET for Windows Authentication security? Like this: ConnectionString= "server='localhost'; trusted_connection=true; database='ichapter_test'". 3. What would it look like in .ASP? Thanks in advance! JurekWorks
HiI am just starting my first .NET project using the web matrix and an MSDE database. I am pretty much at the limit of my knowledge - all very interesting. I have some data in an Access spreadsheet (6 columns and 365 rows) which in the past I have copied and pasted into an Access database table. How do I get it into a MSDE database table? This process does not need to be automated/programmed as I will only have to do it once a year. Any ideas on the easiest way forward would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.Mike
I'm trying to build a record update form and I'm going off the "Build Your Own ASP.NET Website" book. I'm not getting any compilation errors; the database just doesn't update.
