I am new to SQL 2005 and Reports. How can I create an automated weekly report for a database to show Disk usage and top 10 tables. I am after to something similar to the Summary report in SQL 2005. Advantage would be to have it email as well.

Can't Create Reports Via VS 2005 Standard
Aug 16, 2007From what I read about the versions, VS 2005 Standard allows for SSRS development.
If I create a new project, I don't see the option to create anything from the BI section to create a report project.
I have SQL Server Express on my machine, and am able to run the SSRS configuartion management tool.
Do I have to run an .exe file or something?

In my SQL Server Express (that is installed in my Windows XP Pro PC), SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration has Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again. (SQLSAC) Additional Information: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo). Failed to retrieve data for this request. Is It Possible To Create Dynamic Reports Using Reporting Services

once i create these reports then the user will choose columns of there choice.
so the columns may belong to multiple tables.
Now the report should get generated with the layout etc. is it possible.
since our project is totally on the webserver(webbased.)
please if you can provide me with any links with dynamic report creation wizards.
and also we only use Stored procedures via database.
which is best is writing the entire queries right behind the layouit or calling the entire logic via Stored procedure. i am a bit confused. this is my first project working on reports itself.

there, looking for coding suggestion also. Thank you for your assistance.
Currently, CR has a header(Report Header) coming from 1 to 1 tables, there is a parameter
which is passed in, allowing it to retrieve one record for the header(report header or RH).
The CR then has 4 subreports in which each has its own stored procedure. This I believe happens
because the Report Header records relationship to the subreport is 1 to many. The 3 remaining
subreports relationship to the Report Header is also a 1 to many. The main problem is the
subreports is that there may or may not have any records based on this, the subreport is
suppressed within CR and thus there can be alot of unused white space on the 1st page and one
of the subreports prints on a 2nd page when it could have been on the 1st page.
Example:
Main Stored Procedure(sp)
RH Tables: aaa, bbb, ccc, ddd are 1 to 1 record tables and have a @xyz parameter.
Results of subreports and their associated procedure are varchar(8000) decriptions. Each line
should be counted in some manner in the stored procedure(sp) and then should be counted in CR
to avoid excess white space. To complicate matters subreport 2 to has font, bold, showbox but
can have different font sizes. These variations could cause different line space requirements.

Can I Create Letter Type Reports Within The Report Builder

I need to create letter type reports using the report builder, is this possible?. I am trying to create a letter that embeds some variable fields, i.e,. name, address, contact number. I can't seem to find a way to create page headers, and embed report data fields within text. Is this not possible within the report builder? it seems that the only thing you can do within the report builder is add fields to their predesignated areas. I am being forced to use the report builder instead of the report designer in order to give the end user the ability to make modifications to the report/letter. This is very frustrating. not being able to allow the user to edit report designer files, and then having force them to use report builder which doesn't seem to support some simple features..
Any suggestions would be appreciated...

SSMS Express SP2 Reports Issue

After remove the previous SP1 installation of Sql Server Express with Advanced and installed the SP2 I've notice the presence of the [Reports] context menu voice.
I can see some report correctly, but for someone, like "Disk usage by table" i receive a NullReferenceException (System.xml) as following:

HELP! New Guy Trying To Use SQL Server Express With ADP For Reports And Forms

Please forgive my ignorance here. I'm reading as many of the For Dummy and IDIOT's guides as I can. So far, I must brag and say, I've done fairly well. (For a beginner)
Hopefully, this is an easy problem to fix, or at least to explain where I'm going wrong. This is as stripped out as I can make it:
- Using Access Database Project files to provide forms and reports for Customer Service Reps over a Windows network while using SQL Server 2005 Express as my engine.
- I am using a simple combo box in the Access form to allow CSRs to type in a job number and therefore find and fill in related info to the visible fields.
- This used to work when Jet was my database engine. Now, I receive an error, stating "The expression After Update you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.
In asterks it says, The expresion may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Event Procedure]. There may have been an error evaluationg the function, event, or macro.
I don't care how I get it done, I just want this simple feature to work again, so my CSRs will quit hounding me.
PLEASE HELP! Keep in mind, I don't know Visual Basic or T-SQL very well.

i have a strange problem ..., with crystal reports for Visual Studio 2005.
With same report i have this problem.
i make an upgrade from MSDE to Express and with the same app i have this beaver
The report is faster with data insert with MSDE (5 to 10 sec)
The report is very slow with data insert with Express (1,30 min to 2:20 min)
The same app, the same server the same report ...
This is strange ...
Any ideas
Vb2005 Express - Design Reports And Add To Project
Jan 16, 2008Ok, I'm using vb2005 express and I know that the reportviewer control has to be added and reports can't be designed from the IDE. So, I downloaded the business intelligence studio and I can design a report that looks like just what I want. What I can't seem to do is add that report to the application I'm developing. I don't want to use a report server - I want to use the report with client side processsing. I'm wondering if this is possible and if so how? When I try to add that .rdl file or rename it to a .rdcl file to my project I'm not allowed to do so. Any thoughts?

Mar 9, 2007I do not know where to post this strange problem.
I have a perfectly working application, accessing a SQL Express database, displaying data and images.
Now I am trying to add a Crystal Report. I add a new connection (OLE DB (ADO)) The connection points to my .MDF database. I drag the fields I want to print to the report, including an image. Now I click the Report Preview. I get a message saying "The database table "Table-Name" can not be found, Proceed to remove this table from the report?" Yes/No. I select NO, and the preview shows up correctly.
Happily I continue to execute the program in debug mode. At startup I get errors saying that login failed. To get around this error, I have to close down Visual Studio and then open it up again, running the program without touching the Crystal Report Design. Now the program starts up normaly without problems.
Now comes the real strange behavior. I click on my link to request the Crystal report and I get a request to login to the database. I try to login but nothing is accepted. I again close down Visual Studio and open up SQL Server Management Studio Express. I connect to SQL Express and expand "Databases" MY .MDF file is listed but the + sign in front of it is missing and I have to delete the database and attach it again to get it back.
Where is this problem occuring????? I have no idea. Please help.

Mar 28, 2007Hi, Simple question really - Can I use Crystal Reports v8.5 to attach to databases in SQL Server Express and generate reports? I have done a lot of searches in these forums and using Google and I believe it is possible but if someone could confirm this it would help a lot - I'm in the specification stage of a project and would like to use SQL Sever Express for it.

Power Pivot :: Create Power View Report - Button Does Not Show Up For Some Reports
Nov 3, 2015I have several reports in a Power View Gallery. In Gallery view, most of the reports show the "Open New Excel Workbook", the "Create Power View Report", and the "Manage Data Refresh" buttons on the right side of the report list. Why would some reports not have these buttons available? In the attached image you can see one report with the buttons and one without the buttons.

Cannot Create DSN To SQL Express
Aug 1, 2006I installed SQL Express and was able to create a new DB using Management Studio. I was able to copy over tables from another DB using DTS, but strangely the Native Client would not work I had to use OLE for SQL Server.
But I am unable to create a DSN to the database using ODBC Administrator. I keep getting Login Timeout expired error message, using both Native Client and SQL Server drivers. What am I missing?

up until a few days ago i was able to create a new SQL Express database by simply right click on any database , select new database and away i went but now for some reason possibly becasue of a security change (which i cannot locate - i've tried everything) i'm now getting the message below

Please could someone let me know what the minimum Server and Database roles are for an Account to use SMO to create further accounts, using SQLSever accounts and not Windows authentication.
