I am a new user to SQL an I need to create a data base record from a comma delimted file (.CVS). The CVS file has up to ten fields all alpha/numeric. I must create this data base file using a stored procedure! The data base records will be displayed on a grid screen but this grid view will not be used to update the original CVS file.

If I type the following:
"INSERT INTO tabletest SELECT 1,2,3,4,5"
I get this error:
"Insert error: column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition. "
This makes sense because I do not have 5 columns I only have 1. But how can I get around this?

Iam using Sql Server Integration Service to transfer the data. I have to methods to transfer the data.
Method -1
Daily cleaning Dataware house Data base and transfering the data from Source database.
Method -2
Only new rows transfering from the Source database to dataware house data base.
If i use first method, Any performence issues's will come in the future?. In future my source data will have upto 6 lacks records.
If i use second method, daily date based i can transfer the data. But if they delete any previous records from the source database how can i reflect the same in Data ware house Data base.
Can you please provide the solutions.

The following is a VB code which I use it to check the existence of the record before I insert a new record
into my SQL 7.0 database. When I run the vb code, I got an error which is
"-2147217913 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value." I couldn't figure out what's wrong with my code especially the WHERE clause.

I am working on a system that logs ([Audit] table) the changes to fields on some tables using a Trigger on UPDATE. I need to produce a 'quick' report that returns the date when the tables overallStatus field was set to 1.

The funny character, , is ASCII 127.
So need to find when 1309606's overallStatus was changed to 1. Manually looking at the data, I can see overallStatus was modified in 3 of the above 5 [Audit] records. It started life as 0, then went to 1 and then to 3. I'm aware that I need to look at the previous Audits date for when it was changed to the value I'm looking for... So it was changed to 1 on 2008-04-25 10:51:47.930.
What is the best way to approach this problem? I'm hoping to use T-SQL only and not have to use an external scripting language, unless I can embed vbscript or jscript inside a T-SQL function and then use arrays, etc?
Somehow I need to convert the ASCII(127) seperated list of fieldname into an array or list, find the index of the fieldname 'overallStatus' and then lookup that value in the datafield.

I want to pull out some information for documenting my user accounts.I want to be able to show all of the users and what companies those users have access to.
The table which stores the company information lists it in multiple rows, so there will be many results for each user

I want to select this into one record so it will show up like this

johnd -- 2,5,1
The only way I know how to do this would be with a sub-query that uses a cursor to loop through & dump it into one string value, and then output the string value to the field. This seems extremely inefficient for such a seemingly simple task.
Can somebody help me out here?

I have written a procedure in T-SQL that can handle this. But it is slow and it would be better if the solution was available as a view, even a slow view would be better.
Most solutions I found go the way round: from (1, 'abc'), (1, 'DEF') and (1, 'xyzrpt'), generate (1, 'abc, DEF, xyzrpt').
If memory serves, it used "FOR XML PATH". But it's been a while and I may be totally wrong.

The database structure has 3 tables - Products, Files, and ProductFiles(join). From a asp.net formview users are able to upload files to the server. The formview has a products checkboxlist where the user selects all products a file they are uploading applies too. I parse the selected values of the checkboxlist into a comma delimited list that is then passed with other parameters to the stored proc. If only one value is selected in the checkboxlist then the spproc executed correctly. Also, if i run sql profiler i can confirm that the that asp.net is passing the correct information to the sproc:

This is my first SSIS project it's also an utter mare.
I'm a C# developer with reasonable SQL knowledge but I haven't used SSIS projects in BIS before.
What we have (for some insane reason) is an SQL table like so:
Column A |Column B |Column X |
Where Column X contains XML like this:
<Column C></Column C><Column D></Column D><Column ArrgWTF></Column ArrgWTF>
Where <Column ArrgWTF> contains two '-' delimited values.
What I need is some guidence (or just being told if its possible or not) to take this data and arange it like so (see bellow) in a new SQL table:
Column A |Column B |Column C | Column D |Column ArrgWTF1 |Column ArrgWTF2 |
Where A&D are from the original SQL table, C & D are pulled from the XML and ArrgWTF1 & 2 are sourced from the '-' delimited vales within the XML.

But before I have to send the data from operational database (SQL Server 2000) to warehouse (SQL Server 2005) monthly - I have a script for retrieving the data. For my package, I chose Data Flow Task, Execute SQL Task, and OLE DB Destination, and it does not work.

I need to know if it is possible to create a Sql Server instance on top of an existing SQL Server 2k installation.
I am trying to mimic a production setup completely and the database is setup as an instance of a SQL server. By that I mean that we connect to the database by specifying <servername><instancename>.

Currently we have an appplication that accesses a database with about 18 tables. We also have a Data Warehouse. For some reason I was thinking that it would be possibly to migrate thedatabase into the data warehouse. The reason is that in looking at the schematic design forthe data warehouse there are some data tables that could also be used by our application that uses the DB.
I guess I am confused because I am not sure if a data warehouse is used in the same wayas a database?
I make my login account data base using the Web Site Administration Tool in the solution explorer i then debug it on my computer and it works fine i can login then i upload my site and sql data base to server and it no longer works i just get this message what do i do can i change the Web Site Administration Tool so that it uses a access data base by default for login instead of sql.Server Error in '/KRAZYJON' Application.
