Feb 25, 2004I'm currently writing a web application in Coldfusion which uses a Access 2000 db. I can create tables in SQL ok but am having problems with the Autonumber type. Any ideas?

Why Would Tables Pulled In From ODBC In Access Be Different Than Tables In SQL 2005 Tables?
Jan 24, 2008I'm new to my company, although not new to SQL 2005 and I found something interesting. I don't have an ERD yet, and so I was asking a co-worker what table some data was in, they told me a table that is NOT in SQL Server 2005's list of tables, views or synonyms.
I thought that was strange, and so I searched over and over again and still I couldn't find it. Then I did a select statement the table that Access thinks exists and SQL Server does not show and to my shock, the select statement pulled in data!
So how did this happen? How can I find the object in SSMS folder listing of tables/views or whatever and what am I overlooking?

create a new Connection Manager by right-clicking in the Connection Managers section of the design area of the screen. Select New OLE DB Connection to bring up the Configure OLE DB Connection Manager dialog box. Click New to open the Connection Manager. In the Provider drop-down list, choose the Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider and click OK.
Browse to the Access database file and connection set up---all good!!!

Add an OLE DB Source component
Double-click the icon to open the OLE DB Source Editor. Set the OLE DB Connection Manager property to the Connection Manager that I created . Select Table from the Data Access Mode drop-down list.
I cannot see the tables set up as set up as pass-through table types to a Oracle 9i db
Any ideas please help

Access 2007 Linked Tables (vs Access 2003)
May 15, 2007We migrated a MS Access 2003 mdb into MS Access 2007. The mdb has linked tables to SQL Server via a DSN and utilizes a mdw file. In 2003, the username/password is "passed" to SQL Server, so the UID/PWD that is used for opening the mdb, is used in SQL Server.
Opening the same file in 2007 using the same mdw, gives a secondary login on SQL Server.
Is there a way to have MS Access 2007 pass the UID/PWD to SQL Server on linked tables, the same way that 2003 does?

Cannot Get Access To My Access 2003 Database Tables
Feb 5, 2007 I developed a database with Access 2003 and everything was working good until my tech came in and reformated my hard drive and install a new Ghost image that met our company standards.
Now I cannot go in and make any changes to any of the tables, queries and forms. All of this started when a new Ghost image was installed on my pc.
The message I get when I try to open my database is "You do not have permission to run "tblSwitchboard." I get the same error message when I try to do anything at all on the database.
I am at a loss as to what to do. Please help.

Creating MS Access Datasource
Mar 1, 2006I am trying to create a MS Access datasource to use it in a IS dataflow. I've done the following things:
1.I've created an ODBC datasource - System DSN, pointing to the Access database.
2.I've created an ODBC connection manager pointing to the ODBS datasource that I created in the previous step.
3.I've created a DataReader Source that uses as its Connection Manager the connection manager that I created in the previous step.
I get the following error message: "Cannot acquire a managed connection from the run-time connection manager." What can I do to solve this error?

May 6, 2002I am new at the development stages of my DBA career and I am stumped on how to approach this problem, any help would be great.
Problem: Our web developer is designing a Software survey that ranks the difficulty of tasks within a software application like MS Word. Each of these tasks have a rank tied to them.
Here are the tables that he created.

A2 Insert Query 5
In the text field of table 1 he inserts every task or valueid that the employee is able to do.
He needs to be able to select Empid, text(from table 2), and Rank. Based on need. An example would be 'Which employees can Insert a query'. And he would need to be able to look in the text string on Table 1 and find every A2 in listed then get empid and rank. I know that it can be done with full text searching, however I guess what I want to know is if there is another way to create tables that would jus make a join necessary where the value id can be tied to the empid for each task the employee is able to do?

in the query manager and it appears to create the new table, but it only seems to be a temporary table because when I leave query manager and check my data base it isn't there.
I have to convert a table that has about 150 columns and about 2 million rows. I rather not have to create the data types for 150 columns."

Oct 29, 2005I have an Access 2000 MDB with ODBC linked tables to a SQL Server 7 backend. I currently have a selections table in the front end file which theusers use to make selections of records. The table has two fields -- primarykey (which matches primary key of main, SQL Server table), and a booleanfield. The table is linked to the main table in a heterogeneous inner join.I'm looking to move the table to the back end, while still giving eachmachine a unique set of selections. Using one large table with machine nameas part of the primary key actually slows things down. So I'm consideringusing a series of tables, where each machine has its own table in the backend for selections. The machine name would be incorporated in the particularselections table name, and the front end link would be modified on the flywhen the database is opened to point to that machine's back end selectionstable.This would require having about 50-100 individual selections tables in theback end database. Also, if a machine doesn't have a table when the databaseis opened on that machine, then that table would be created on the fly,populated, and pointed to via the ODBC link.Anyone see any problems with this approach, specifically creating the tableon the fly and then immediately using it, as well as having that many littletables running around? May 1, 2008I'm transferring data from DB2 to SQL Server - the data gets wiped every night and reloaded. To keep up with any changes in the tables and to reduce the amount of maintenance on keep field & table definition updated, it would be nice to be able to create the tables in SQL Server in the SSIS package, based on the DB2 definition.
I've noticed it can be done in design mode when creating the OLE DB Destination (clicking on the 'New' button), but I'm not sure how I would automate this...
any suggestions?

In my web application, i'm using 2 tabels; Users(Username(PK), Pwd, Name, Deptid(FK)) n Dept(Deptid(PK), Deptname)).
For creating a Data Access Layer 4 my project, I added dataset as new item n followed the wizard 2 create the required functions.
I have a function GetUser(@uname, @pwd), which takes username n password as input. M using this for authentication purpose.
While executing it poping an ConstrainException.
Plz help me out.
I've tried 2 as clear as possible here. OR u may ask me any other questions for clear picture of the scenario.

Creating A Linked Server To Access DB
Jan 13, 2004I'm trying to create a linked server to an Access database that resides on a separate machine.
On my PC, I can create a link to the Access db, and view, update, add and delete data. If I create the same linked server on our production Server, I can again view, update, add and delete data. All's well so far.
If I now go back to my own PC (used for developing) I cannot access the linked server on the production machine.
The Access database is stored on a separate PC, so the I'm linking to a remote db. As I said this works fine if I'm sat in front of the PC that the linked server is created on - but not if I use a client PC to connect.
I create the linked server using the following command:

If I run the SQL statement:

I get this error:
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\DatabaseServerAccessDatabase.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ].
I've searched in the MS knowledge base, and this forum and followed all of the advice that was available, but it still won't work.
Anyone got any other advice, before I go totally insane with this.

When I first wanted to create assably using:CREATE ASSEMBLY hashfrom 'C:hash.dll'WITH PERMISSION_SET = EXTERNAL_ACCESS... Server returned error:CREATE ASSEMBLY failed because it could not open the physical file "C:TESTS_Run_This_In_SQL2.dll": 2(The system cannot find the file specified.).Then I tried to find file with exec Master.dbo.xp_fileexist 'C:hash.dll'File exists - falseFile is directory - falseParent directory exists - trueConclusion: Server knows that I have hard drive but cannot see the file (by the way file IS THERE 10000%,alright)

Apr 27, 2007I have made a new table called 'customer' which i wish to tie into the userId of the db. I have used a db diagram to do this (there are keys on each side of the link and userId is the FK) . When i put the membership/profile view onto the form alongside the new customer table nothing displays in the customer table when i run the app., i dont even see the titles - any ideas (i'm new to this sql malarky btw - so its probably something unbelievably straightforward). Any help appreciated.

Creating Database And Tables
Feb 6, 2008I am very new to SQL Server 2005 so please excuse my mandune queastion.
First what I accomplished was I created several tables within SQL Server 2000 using the Database and Table Wizards. I also created all the relationships the same way. Next, I had SQL Server 2000 and had the tool reverse engineer the SQL for this new database with all the relationships.
My next step was to run this newly created SQL script on my local box with SQL Server 2005 (SMSS). What I did was create the database first and then assign the users to the new database. From here, I moved to running the sql script. While it was not 100% perfect, it did create all the tables and relationships with no problems.
Now, I am trying to accomplish the same process one a development instance of SQL Server 2005, but the script fails. The data base error says the new database created does not exist. When we go back and look at the database within SMSS, it is GONE!
I am at a lost at how to replicate the database I have on my local box. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When I create this table on another users box, I can not accessit from my box. In sql server I am dbo, but the table created by myapplication when run on a different box has an owner of : "FCxxxx". Ihave sent permissions on this thing to public, but I am still gettingan error when I try to query this thing from my application. And I cannot get query analyzer to recognize this thing. I can see it inEnterprise manager. I would think there is a way to handle this sortof thing. If anyone out there has done anything like this I would bemuch obliged for any ideas. Now in SQL 2005 Dev edition I try to run my scripts to create tables.
I create a db [MSS].
They run successfully but there is no table created.
(example script)USE [MSS]

[Style] [char](25) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
SET ANSI_PADDING OFF
Any clue what else I have to do to let these scripts actually create tables or why if they run ok, where is my table ?

Creating Multilple Tables At Once
Jul 27, 2006I had a SQL db that i copied all the tables into excel and it generated the quereies in order to create those tables....Is there anyway i could excute all those table creations at once or would it be easier to just write an application that does that for me????

I now tried to create a link between two tables tblStaffBookings and tblEventStaffDisciplinary by dragging from tblEventStaffDisciplinary.StaffID to tblStaff Bookings.StaffID and it gives me error as below;What do I need to do to link tblEventStaffDisciplinary.StaffID to tblStaffBookings.StaffID?

I'm receiving Access Violation Error when I'm trying to create a clustered index on a datetime field on a table that have around 4 million records, if I create the index nonclustered, no problem, but clustered the system raise this error!
