I'm trying to create a temporary table with one of the columns with a datetime datatype. Sql server 7.0 is giving me an error:
Error 195 date is not a recognized function name.
Example of my create table looks something like this:
create table #temp_table(column_one int, column_two(15,2), Column_three datetime)
I am attempting to create a stored procedure that will launch at report runtime to summarize data in a table into a table that will reflect period data using an array type field. I know how to execute one line but I am not sure how to run the script so that it not only summarizes the data below but also creates and drops the table.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Using DTS package in 2000 version, I am dumping TXT file contents into SQL Table,
I have one column having date in format YYYYMMDD(20070929) and corresponding column in SQL is datetime, but it fails on data type mismatch.
I have no choice of making date column in SQL to string or Varchar etc,
is there any way to make that date column in SQL to convert the value upon transformation from format (YYYYMMDD) to M/DD/YYYY (9/29/2007).

Hi,I have a form which is submitting into a sql server db. i have one ofthe fields set to ntext which says length of 16. when i insert info,it only sumbits about a paragraph and when i pull this back usinganalyser it amounts to a byte count of 256 bytes. i thought you couldsubmit pages of info using ntext??i had been trying to use varchar with a length of 7000, but for somereason only info on the one line is submitted. if the user uses aline break, then nothing after that is submitted.Any help greatly appreciated.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm unable to create a field with the type varbinary(max). When I try doing this with Management Studio, it tells me that the maximum length is 8000 bytes. I've also tried creating the field with DDL as shown below, but that doesn't work either. If I create the varbinary field with a length of 8000 or less, it works fine. Is there some trick to using varbinary(max)?

I need to parameterize some values in the data flow so that i can chnage the values directly in parameter file and re run the data flow for new value in the passed in the parameter. This can be easy for other who do not know about the flow of data flow task as to where to change the variable/parameter.
How can this be accomplished. I want the data flow task to refer to this file before it starts executing and pick the appropriate value from the file.
Or is their any better way to accompalish what i want to do here in SSIS.???

Can anybody tell me how to add a date data type into SQL Server? I have a web application that collects data from users, and one of the data collected is the date. I would like to save that date as a date only and not as a datetime like SQL Server wants me to.
My first understanding is that, since SQL Server only allows a datetime data type, this is why it appends a time whenever a date is saved in or it appends a date whenever a time is saved in.
How do I accomplish this task of saving a date as a date only or a time as a time only? Is there a way to add a date or time data type w/in SQL Server? Or SQL Server just doesn't allow for it?
Any help is appreciated!

And also,in the balance column i want to store the balance.amd when ever there is a credit or debit,i want to add or subtract from the balance correspondingly.How do i manipulate this .

I created a function class in "Script Components" to convert an Integer to a Date data type. It works good except that it converts NULL value to the date 1988-12-31; but I want to return NULL when the value is NULL. Any idea on this?

I am struggling to insert a date value in "dd-mm-yyyy" format to SQL server table having datatype as Date/Time.
Regional date setting for Server and Local systems are in dd-mm-yyyy format.
I am using following code
Dim DT As String
DT = Now()
DT = Format(DT, "MM/DD/YYYY")
for the inserting into table using command
ins_comm.CommandText = " INSERT INTO CARD (doe) values("& DT &")"
Procedure will end without any error ,but stored value for the date feild will be garbage value like 1900-01-01.
But if i used mm-dd-yyyy format ,it will get inserted.
What could be the reason,How I can save value in dd-mm-yyyy or dd-mm-yy format

Is there a performance impact (if so, how great is it) when comparing a date to a datetime data type?
An educated guess suggests yes, as there will be a type casting... but then again I don't believe there's an issue when comparing an int to a tinyint and there's an assumption these would play by the same rules?
This has only come about because I'm considering changing the data type used in my standard calendar script and this popped in to my head.
hi all , does SQL server able to input the date that is originally from 2/6/2004 11:07:46 AM to DD-MM-YY 06-02-04 and store in the DB. For example , this is the SQL insert query

the date will automatically converted to 06-02-04 and store in DB .

As i was having problem taking date as input parameter in my stored procedure, so, then I changed to varchar (16) i.e.

The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
Can any one tell me the solution of that problem (at ur earliest)

I have a table (we will cal DateTable) with several (20) columns, each being a date type. Another table's (Project) PK is referenced in the DateTable.
I am trying to write a query that will pull all dates for a specific project from the DateTable if they meet certain criteria(i.e. if the date is <= 7 days from now.
I started with a normal select statement selecting each column with a join to the project and then a where clause using
(DateTable.ColumnName BETWEEN GETDATE() AND DATEADD(day, 7, GETDATE()) OR (DateTable.ColumnName BETWEEN GETDATE() AND DATEADD(day, 7, GETDATE())) ...
The rest of the columns(all with OR between them).
The problem with this is that because I am using OR once one of the dates meets the criteria it selects all the dates that are associated with the project. I ONLY want the dates that meet the criteria and don't care about the rest.
Obviously because I have all the columns in the select statement... So I need something like

I'm trying to return records containing the next upcoming mailing for each client.
The closest I can get is below:
I'm using GROUP BY because it allows me to return a single record for each client and the MIN part allows me to return the associated record in the mailings table for each client that contains the next upcoming 'send_date'

The user_id set at 1000 part is what makes it rightly pull in all clients for a particular user. Problem is, by using the GROUP BY statement I'm just getting the lowest 'mailing_id' number and NOT the actual entry associated with mailing item I want to return. Same goes for the last_name field. Perhaps I need to have a subquery within my WHERE clause?Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely..

Hi, I have a table in which I will insert several redundant data. Don't ask why, is Integration services, it only reads data and inserts it in a SQL table. THis way, I have a SQL table with several lines repeating them selves. What I want to do is create a procedure that reads the distinct data and inserts it in another table, but my problem is that I am not able to select data line by line on the original table to save it in local variables and insert it on the another table, I just can select the last line. I've tried a while cycle but no succeed. I'm moving data between identical tables and have to use a flat file as an intermediary. I thought: "No problem, SSIS can do a quick export to a file, then move the file to another server, then use SSIS to import the data to the new server."
Seems simple, right?
I'm hitting all sorts of surprising data conversion errors. I used the export wizard to create the export package. This works fine. However using the same flat file definition, the import package fails -- even when I have no destination. That is I have just one data flow task that contains only one control: the Flat File source. When I run the package the flat file definition fails with data type conversion and truncation errors. One of the obvious errors is for boolean types. The SQL field is a bit, SSIS defined the column as DT_BOOL, the output of the data are literal text values "TRUE" and "FALSE". So SSIS converts a sql datatype of bit to "TRUE" and "FALSE" on export, but can't make the reverse conversion on import?
Does anyone else find this surprising? I would expect that what SSIS exports, it can import given all the same table and flat file definitions. Is SSIS the wrong tool to do such simple bulk copies? I'd like to avoid using BCP because this process will need to run automatically within SQL Agent so we can leverage all the error tracking and system monitoring.
