Creating A Form With A Drop Down List Of The Foreign Key Values
Jun 19, 2002
I have the following tables in an SQL Server database.
Contact
=======
NameID
TitleID
Name
JobTitle
========
TitleID
Title
I'm trying to make a form to add entries to the Contact table that lets me associate a job title to a name by choosing it from a drop down list. I have been able to make it so I get a drop down list of TitleID but I need the Title field displayed. I haven't been able to do it. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?
I am writing my first custom SSIS task and I can see that, if I put a public property into the task, I see that property in the standard Properties window. If I add a property of type String, I can put a value in that property, in the task code, and when I instantiate the task in a package, I can see the value I entered.
To try and get a drop down list property in the Properties window, I declared a property of type Combobox, and indeed a drop down list appears in that property.
My problem is trying to get values in that property. I have used the test items:
Hi Will somebody please explain how to combine asp.net dropdown lists to write a SQL database select query. I am using VWdeveloper and C Sharp. For example, say I have 3 dropdownlists on my webpage as below, List 1, Cities, London, Rome, Barcelona etc List 2, Restaurants by Type, Italian, chinese, Indian etc List 3, Number of tables/ seats 10-20, 20- 40, 50 -100 I want someone to be able to search for a restaurant by selecting an item from each dropdownlist such as, "Barcelona" "Italian" "50-100" This search query would return all the Italian restaurants in Barcelona with 50-100 tables/seats. I would also like the select query to work even if one of the dropdownlists items is not selected. Hope somebody can clear this up? Also would sql injection attacks be a threat by doing it this way? Thanks all
I have a table called suppliers where i type my suppliers details. I have also a table called supp_corellation in which i have the proffesion of my suppliers.
there is one column in the table of suppliers which it takes data from the table supp_corellation . Is it possible to choose the values from a list instead of typing in my table (lets say drop down list)???
Kinda new to SQL, using SQL Server 2005.I have some foreign keys in a couple of tables. I need to drop thesetables, but can't since I'll get the error:Msg 3726,Level 16, State 1, Line 1Could not drop object 'Client' because it is referenced by a FOREIGNKEY constraint.I'm not sure how to disable or get rid of these foreign keys so that Ican drop my tables. I tried:ALTER TABLE Client NOCHECK CONSTRAINT ALLAlter Table Client Drop Column Foreign Key Boss_ID;I went into the Object Explorer and deleted the FK lines from eachtable, but still the same error. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
Hi, I am a newbie, this is my first post (please go easy).
Iam at the moment trying to set up a query for someone looking for a property on an estate agents website.
From a drop down menu, the user can: select an area (where they may like to live) from a list of areas. select an amount of bedrooms from a list of bedrooms select a minimum price from a list of prices select a maximum price from a list of prices.
The query I worked out for this is as follows: $data = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM property WHERE area like '$area' and bedrooms like '$bedrooms' AND price BETWEEN '$min_price' AND '$max_price'") or die(mysql_error());
This seems to work fine and shows all the properties that meet the criteria onto my webpage.
However, I then thought, someone may not care which area they live in and want to see all properties in all the areas, so I decided to add the option 'All areas' to my 'areas' list, I then did the same for the other lists, eg 'all bedrooms' option to my bedrooms list and so on.
I am now trying to write a query that incorporates where the 'all..' option is selected and have become very stuck! Can someone set me off in the right direction for this. I hope that makes sense?!?!
I am testing Insert, Update etc. and messing up my database with "dirty" data. Is there a way to temporarily drop FOREIGN KEY constraints to truncate a table after testing without dropping the whole table and rebuilding it? Newbie
I have two tables Person & Location where Location has a primary key LocationId and Person has a foreign key LocationId.
Sometime ago I used the Database Diagrams visual tool of SQL Server Management Studio Express to create the foreign key relationship between the two tables - i.e. "visually" (drawing a line between the PK & FK LocationId elements of both tables).
Time has passed and I recently noticed that, upon retrieving my saved diagram, the foreign key relationship had "fallen off" (i.e. the many-to-one line was no longer showing in the diagram).
After recreating the relationship (redrawing the line) I find that I get an error message when I try to save the diagram:
Post-Save Notifications [!] Errors were encountered during the save process. Some database objects were not saved.
'Location' table saved successfully 'Person' table - Unable to create relationship 'FK_Person_Location'. The ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_Person_Location". The conflict occurred in database "mydb", table "dbo.Location", column 'LocationId'.
When I go back to the object explorer and view the dependencies for the two tables, there is no dependency (between these two tables) revealed. When I try to create the foreign key constraint manually (T-SQL) it again says can't add the constraint. It comes up with an error as follows:
ALTER TABLE Person ADD FOREIGN KEY (LocationId) REFERENCES Location (LocationId)
Msg 547, Level 16, State 0, Line 2 The ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK__Person__LocationId__793DFFAF". The conflict occurred in database "mydb", table "dbo.Location", column 'LocationId'.
(Note: Each time I do this, the 8 hexadecimal character suffix changes.)
When I try to drop the foreign key:
alter table Person drop constraint FK__Person__LocationId
it comes back with the error:
Msg 3728, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 'FK__Person__LocationId' is not a constraint. Msg 3727, Level 16, State 0, Line 2 Could not drop constraint. See previous errors.
So it seems that there's some kind of goof up here. Can anybody shed light on this / tell me how to fix it?
So at the moment, I don't have a function by the name CONCATENATE. What I like to do is to list all those different values that go with a single CASE_ID to appear as a a comma separate list. You might have a better way of doing without even writing a function
Anyone have any solid solutions for using Reporting Services 2005 to report against a SharePoint List and/or InfoPath Forms Document Library?
This seems to be a popular one for reporting against the SharePoint List, but it looks like there are some issues with it, such as getting it to work with Subscriptions...
hi all !i'm kind of new to MYSQL so am still learning basics.my question is how do you create a drop down list in a field in an SQLdatabase ?thanksbrino
In my drop down menus - which are populated by tables - we can only use the scroll bar OR type in the first letter to find the item - Is there a way to type in several letters to find something? (e.g. if I want to find clockwork - right now I could type in "C" to get to the C's - but if I tried typing "clo" it would end up at the beginning of the "O's" - Thanks
I am using SSRS 2005 SP2 and I need to allow my users to select the products they want in the report. I created a data set to get the list of the products and then used it in a multivalue parameter to generate a drop down list. My problem is that the list is too long (more than 2000 elements) and thus, it takes 10 sec to collapse the drop down list after tickinging the products.
Does anyone have an miraculous solution? Thanks in advance for your answers.
I've made a form and now all I want to do is save everything in the form into a new database file but I don't know how. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2005. Somehow I'm guessing that I have to set something somewhere so when the submit button is hit, it knows to save it to a database file which doesn't exist yet so it would have to create it. It should be easy but I can't figure it out.
i am making a form in SSRS and display user details. the form uses only textbox to fill the data.but when i preview the form i just see the data for the first user.i dont see other users.what is the problem.please help
I was wondering if anyone may be familiar with a way to create a dropdown list that included a list of SQLServers. Basically I want to create a little application that lets a user point to an instance of sql server, similar to enterprise manager. I wanted to use C# and figured there may be some namespaces I could use that provide this functionality but was not sure. Thanks,

I am trying to make a dropdownlist with a date. Where should I define that I do want only the date, not the hour. So far it shows something like "14-02-2006 0:00:00" whereas I just want "14-02=2006". Can anyone help please
we can generate drop-down list on the tables by writing sql query at "Access". I was wondering whether or not the same thing can be done for SQL Server?
I am using Visual Studio 2005 to create a report from a OLAP cube.
I am building a drop down list for user to select the desired branch. My mdx query as follow:
with member [Measures].[ParameterCaption] AS '[Company].[Branch].Currentmember.Member_Caption' member [Measures].[ParameterValue] AS '[Company].[Branch].Currentmember.Uniquename' select {[Measures].[ParameterCaption], [Measures].[ParameterValue]} on columns, {[Company].[Branch].ALLMEMBERS} on rows from [Profit And Loss]
I would like to add a blank row in the result set, such that I can consider that as selecting ALL Branch
Hi, I'm trying to create a form with reporting services. Basically I am trying to draw this form using lines that has 2 columns down the page. The problem I have is the fields can grow on either side of the page, so the lines will not line up. I have tried putting this in a list box and then text boxes inside of these, but this will not work. I have not been able to get just the line to work because it doesn't grow with the list either. Has anyone else been able to design a form like this? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks SQLNewbie1000
It says : The number of columns in the referencing column list for foreign key 'staff_fk' does not match those of the primary key in the referenced table 'Staff'.
I have a drop down list that is populated by a stored procedure which has two int parameters (ID, STATUS). I need to default the drop down list to a value in the database that is associated to the ID & STATUS parameters.
The problem I am having is that it only works if the selected value is the first record on the drop down list. for any other records (outside the first record) from the drop down list i get "The 'SelectedIndex' and 'SelectedValue' attributes are mutually exclusive."
Here is the stored procedure I am using to populate the drop down list:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_SelectName] ( @pId Int, @pStatus Int ) AS BEGIN IF @pId = -1 --THIS VALUE IS USED AS DEFAULT (NOT POSTBACK)
[Code] ....
Here is the TABLE_NAMES that holds the data for the drop down list:
IN_ID IN_NAMESTATUS 6 New 0 4 Generic 0 3 Local 1 4 Storm 0
This is the TABLE_2 that holds the complete collected FORM data that has the selected record IN_ID from the TABLE_NAME:
ID STATUS IN_ID 111906 114406 114505 114606 114706
