Am I right in saying that the insert triggers on a table will not execute if the table is being populated using DTS ? At least, that is what is happening with me. Is DTS logged ? Is there any way to populate the table thru' DTS and still make the triggers work ?

I have never work with triggers before, so I need a hand on how to create a trigger when a row is updated on a table. Lets says I have this table call "Events" and I want to send the new row to another table call "History". When a new row is inserted I want to select that row and inserted in the History table. Can someone give me a hand with this?

I need to create a trigger for table X, to check BEFORE the update of the table whether a double value for column [X].[Y] exists, if it does (and the value is NOT NULL), do not allow update, if it doesnt allow update/insert statement. This is different from unique keys because as I understand, SQL Server doesnt support multiple NULLs.

Does anyone know of a way I can create a trigger on a system table (say sysdatabases in master). I know this is not supported but presumably there's a way it can be done by referencing it's equivilant in Information_schema somewhere.
I'm trying to write a script that will automatically set up a backup schedule for a database that has just been created. I was hoping the trigger would query the sysdatabases table for new database name entries, log necessary info in an audit table and then call a backup script to set up the schedule. Any ideas??

I'm trying to use Query Analyzer to create several triggers on different files in the same sql script file. It appears to only allow me to create one trigger at a time in Query Analyzer. How do you separate multiple create trigger statements? Here what I'm trying to do:

I use the VB.NET transaction to update an sql server 2000 database. I call a number of stored procedures within this transaction.The stored procedures will update tables. These tables use triggers..My question is, when does the trigger get called? Is it after the each stored procedure, or is it after the whole transaction? Jag

I have a master table with Primary key on ID field (PatientID-(Patient-Table)) and it is an Identity field
And My child table has the same ID field(PatientID-(PatientDetails-Table)) and it has the relationship set
And the child table has its own Primary key of its own ID field(PatientdetailsID).
What I want is as soon as enter row of data into the master table (Patient-Table)and click save on my front end application(Which is ASP.Net web application)
I want to update Child Table’S (PatientDetails)ID field ( ie.,PaientID in the PatientDetailsTable) in the Child Table which relates the parent table ,by doing so I want to update the Primary key field (ie.,PatientDetailsID) & ForeignKey Field (PatientID)of the child table and to create row in the child table with two columns .(PatientID,&PatientDetailsID)
What I want to achieve is in my ASP.net Application as soon as I enter Master table

I have a question do I have to increase the Transaction Log size to create new indexes after dropping existing one on a table which has 18108360 rows. I need to recreate 5 indexes on that table. As this table is corrupt. Let me know. The corruption was on one of the indexes of this table.

I need to parameterize some values in the data flow so that i can chnage the values directly in parameter file and re run the data flow for new value in the passed in the parameter. This can be easy for other who do not know about the flow of data flow task as to where to change the variable/parameter.
How can this be accomplished. I want the data flow task to refer to this file before it starts executing and pick the appropriate value from the file.
Or is their any better way to accompalish what i want to do here in SSIS.???

This isn€™t an problem as such, it€™s more of a debate.
If a table needs a number of update triggers which do differing tasks, should these triggers be separated out or encapsulated into one all encompassing trigger. Speaking in terms of performance, it doesn€™t make much of an improvement doing either depending upon the tasks performed. I was wondering in terms of maintenance and best practice etc. My view is that if the triggers do totally differing tasks they should be a trigger each on their own.

We use windows NT authentication. We did not do any change on NT. The SQL Server daily schedule job usally stoped at 10:00AM, but today from the Window NT Task Manager, we can see that the SQL Server is still running untill now.

hi, I have settup up sql mail and did the following:
1. created an E-mail account and configured Out look by creating a pop3 mail profile. tested it by sending and receiving mail, that is ook
2. I Created one domain account for MSsqlserver and Sql Agent service. both services use same account and start automatically in the control panel-services
3. I used the profile that I created in outlook to test the sql mail but got an error:
Error 22030 : A MAPI error ( error number:273) occurred: MapiLogon Ex Failed due to MAPI
Error 273: MAPI Logon Failed
I really do not know what went wrong. I followed the steps from bol and still having a problem. Am I missing something.
I do have a valid email account
I do have a valid domain account
I tested outlook using the email account and it worked. so why sql server does not recognise MAPI.
My next question, How to configure MAPI in Sql server if what I did was wrong.

I have activated the Server-Requested Encryption by using the sql server network utility (Force Protocol Encryption). After this, I have stoped sql server service. But I can't start it at this moment.
The error is:
19015: The encrypton is required but no available certificat has been found.
Please help me to start sql server.

I am facing a huge problem in my sql server database using access as a front end.The main problem is trying to execute queries "views" ,since they reside on sql server now,and using variables or parameters in reports and forms to filter on this query.
Ex.

Is it possible to achieve this using triggers:When someone tries to delete a row in table A, the trigger should first delete a corresponding row in table B and then delete the row in table A. The reason being that, there is a foreign key set on Table B that references table A. So any attempt to delete a row in table A without deleting the corresponding row from B, throws an error.

I need to create a set of rows every time a new row is inserted into a table.
Example (I think this would work)...

Is it possible to do the same kind of thing in a situation where the select statement returns multiple values and execute the insert statement for each of these values?
Also, if table3 was in fact the table on which the trigger acts, would it then be executed for every row created by the trigger?

I'm using triggers to handle my transaction log to cature inserts and updates. It works fine except if the user clicks on the Save button more than once, the trigger is fired and the record is written to the log even if the record wasn't changed. Does anyone know how to check if the record was actually changed so that it isn't written to the table if it wasn't?

When I execute a stored proc from my asp.net page, will the results of a trigger be returned to my program?
For instance say my stored proc is:

And my trigger is:

It seems like since this is an AFTER trigger that my webpage would actually get a valid return code from my stored procedure however the trigger would rollback those changes correct? Or would the trigger get fired and send it's return code to my webpage?
