Custom Data Flow Component Column Mapping Question

Feb 7, 2007

Hi,

I'm having my first go at developing a destination adapter which will send data to an update Web Service.

I've got some rather big gaps in my understanding. I've been following the various samples I've found on the net and have validated my mapping and picked up all the available column names and datatypes which are appearing in the Input and Output Properties tab of the Advanced Editor but I only have a tab for "Input Columns" and not "Column Mappings".

Which method defines the availble columns for the user to map?

Let me know if I haven't given enough information.

cheers

Column Mapping In A Custom Component

Feb 7, 2006

Does anyone know how to get destination coulmns to show up in the advanced editor for a custom component? I have a custom flat file destination component that builds the output based on a specific layout. It works as long as the upstream column names match my output names. What I want is to allow non-matching columns to be mapped by the user as they can in a stock flat file destination. The closest that I have been able to come is to get the "column mappings" tab to show up and populate the "Available Input Columns" by setting ExternalmetadataColumnCollection.IsUsed to true on the input. The problem is that the "Available destination columns" box is always empty. I have tried the IsUsed property on the output and pretty much every other property that I could find. On the Input and Output properties all of my columns show up under the output as both External and Output columns. Is there a separate collection for "destination" columns that I can't find? It's getting a little frustrating, is this something that can be done or do I have to write a custom UI to make it happen?

Thanks!
Harry

Expression Editor On Custom Properties On Custom Data Flow Component

Aug 14, 2007

Hi,

I've created a Custom Data Flow Component and added some Custom Properties.

I want the user to set the contents using an expression. I did some research and come up with the folowing:

Code Snippet
IDTSCustomProperty90 SourceTableProperty = ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertyCollection.New();
SourceTableProperty.ExpressionType = DTSCustomPropertyExpressionType.CPET_NOTIFY;
SourceTableProperty.Name = "SourceTable";

But it doesn't work, if I enter @[System:ackageName] in the field. It comes out "@[System:ackageName]" instead of the actual package name.

I'm also unable to find how I can tell the designer to show the Expression editor. I would like to see the elipses (...) next to my field.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Expression Issue With Custom Data Flow Component And Custom Property

Apr 2, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to enable Expression for a custom property in my custom data flow component.

Here is the code I wrote to declare the custom property:

public override void ProvideComponentProperties()

{

ComponentMetaData.RuntimeConnectionCollection.RemoveAll();

RemoveAllInputsOutputsAndCustomProperties();

IDTSCustomProperty90 prop = ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertyCollection.New();

prop.Name = "MyProperty";

prop.Description = "My property description";

prop.Value = string.Empty;

prop.ExpressionType = DTSCustomPropertyExpressionType.CPET_NOTIFY;

...

}

In design mode, I can assign an expression to my custom property, but it get evaluated in design mode and not in runtime

Here is my expression (a file name based on a date contained in a user variable):

"DB" + (DT_WSTR, 4)YEAR( @[User::varCurrentDate] ) + RIGHT( "0" + (DT_WSTR, 2)MONTH( @[User::varCurrentDate] ), 2 ) + "\" + (DT_WSTR, 4)YEAR( @[User::varCurrentDate] ) + RIGHT( "0" + (DT_WSTR, 2)MONTH( @[User::varCurrentDate] ), 2 ) + ".VER"

@[User::varCurrentDate] is a DateTime variable and is assign to 0 at design time

So the expression is evaluated as: "DB189912189912.VER".

My package contains 2 data flow.

At runtime,

The first one is responsible to set a valid date in @[User::varCurrentDate] variable. (the date is 2007-01-15)

The second one contains my custom data flow component with my custom property that was set to an expression at design time

When my component get executed, my custom property value is still "DB189912189912.VER" and I expected "DB200701200701.VER"

Any idea ?

SSIS Custom Data Flow Component - Variable Type Converter

Jun 27, 2007

Hi all,

I am creating a customer data flow component for SSIS for use in a package. I've got some custom properties that I am exposing using the supplied advanced editor (no custom property editor here).

Some of my properties are enumerated types, and I have deciphered how to get those properties to show as dropdown lists of their respective enumerations. (For those of you who may be looking as hard as I did as to how to accomplish this, see the end of this post.)

I also have a few properties which request SSIS package variable names - such as an file name variable. However, I can't figure out how to tell the advanced editor that the property is looking for an SSIS variable, so that it can show a dropdown list of package variables, much like virtually any other Microsoft supplied Data Flow component can.

Is there a Type Converter I could specify for those custom properties? Is there another way to instruct SSIS that my custom property is expecting a variable? Or do I need to code a custom UI for editing my Data Flow Task?

To create a dropdown list of values for a custom property that represents an enum, do the following:

1. Create your enum definition, such as "public enum ThisIsMyEnum { one, two }"

2. Create a new class that inherits from TypeConverter, such as "public class MyEnumConverter : TypeConverter"

3. Override "CanConvertFrom", and return true if "sourceType == typeof(string)"

4. Override "CanConvertTo", and return true if "destinationType == typeof(string)"

5. Override "ConvertFrom", and return the enum value (such as "one" or "two" in my example) that corresponds to the string passed in the parameter "value"

6. Override "ConvertTo", and return a string that corresponds to the enum value passed in the parameter "value"

7. Override "GetStandardValuesSupported" and return true

8. Override "GetStandarValuesExclusive" and return true to indicate that ONLY the enum values should be accepted

9. Override "GetStandardValues", and return a new StandardValuesCollection constructed with Enum.GetValues() of your enum, such as "return new StandardValuesCollection(Enum.GetValues(typeof(ThisIsMyEnum)));"

10. Just above your "public enum" declaration, add a "TypeConverter" attribute to link your type converter to your enum, such as "[TypeConverter(typeof(MyEnumConverter))]"

11. In "ProvideComponentProperties", after you've created your custom property like this: "IDTSCustomProperty90 propEnum = ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertyCollection.New()", add another line to specify the TypeConverter property of the property to the full assembly name of your type converter, like so: "propEnum.TypeConverter = typeof(MyEnumConverter).AssemblyQualifiedName;"

Excel Destination Data Flow Component Shows No Sheet Name Or Output Column Names For Mappings

Mar 8, 2008

I have a data flow that consists of

OLE DB source which calls a stored proc that returns a result set

data conversion

Excel destination
I am in design mode in Business Intelligence studio. My excel destination (with an Excel Connection) shows no sheet name though I have an execute SQL task before the data flow to create the excel table called SHEET1. Needless to say, there are no output columns visible to do any mappings. I did go to the ExcelConnection to set the OpenRowset Property to SHEET1 but it seems to have no effect.

I can do the export in SQL Server Management studio and that works fine, but it is basic and does not meet my requirements. I have to customize the package to allow dynamic Excel filenames based on account names and have to split my result set into multiple excel sheets because excel 2003 has a max of 65536 rows per sheet. Also when I use the export wizard, I have the source as a table and eventually the source has to be a stored proc with input parms.

What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks in advance

Custom Dataflow Component---add New Column To Buffer

Aug 14, 2007

This is trivial I'm sure but I'll be dogged if I can find someone who mentions how to do it. I am attempting to develop a Data Flow Transformation that appends a new column (a string value) into the current stream.

I have found plenty of references on how to replace an existing column but I'd really like to just add my new column in there. It doesn't need to be configurable, it can be a static column name. I'll take a solution that allows the column name to be set at design time, don't get me wrong but the magic I'm looking for is how to implement a new column in a stream.

Yes, I am well aware of the derived column task but I will be replacing a few hundred instances and I'd much rather just drag an item onto the designer than to drag a derived column, double click it, type in the column name, set the expression and then set the datatype, etc.

Anyone spare a moment to enlighten me?

Pardon the lack of formatting, this BB doesn't play with Opera (I know, I'm a heretic)

Conditionally Adding A Column To My Custom Component

Feb 9, 2006

Hi,

I am building a custom component have a IDTSCustomProperty90 property that can take the value 'True' or 'False'.

Depending on its setting, I want to include (or not include) a column in the output.

Any advice on how to go about doing this (with some sample code) would be much appreciated!

Here's how I'm declaring the property in ProvideComponentProperties()
IDTSCustomProperty90 IncludeErrorDesc =  ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertyCollection.New();
IncludeErrorDesc.ExpressionType = DTSCustomPropertyExpressionType.CPET_NONE;
IncludeErrorDesc.Name = "Some Name";
IncludeErrorDesc.TypeConverter = typeof(Boolean).AssemblyQualifiedName;
IncludeErrorDesc.Value = Convert.ToBoolean(false);

Thanks in advance

Mapping Surrogate Keys Of Level 2 Dimensions To Fact Table In SSIS Data Flow

Aug 16, 2007

Hi,
I use lookups to map surrogate of level 1 dimensions to my fact tables in SSIS.
But how to handle a level 2 dimension with a ValidFrom and a ValidUntil date field?
I do not use an IsCurrent column, because this could problem with late arriving facts.

- In dts I used an SQL statement like this:

update SA
SET SA.DimProdRef = Dim.RecordID
FROM SAWarenEingang SA, DimProd Dim
where SA.ProduktNumber = Dim.ProduktNumber
and SA.ArtikelkontoBewegungsdatum between Dim.ValidFrom and Dim.ValidUntil

Now in SSIS I want to handle the whole thing in the data flow without using a staging table:
- Using Lookups: I would have to pass the date column for each inside the fact table into the lookup. That does not work.
- Using Execute SQL in the data flow: would be very slow, because the statement will be executed for any line in the dataflow

Any ideas?

Best regards,
Stefoon

Adding Column Attributes For Custom Pipeline Component

Feb 21, 2007

I'm building a custom transform component. I want to mark some input columns as keys for deduplicating. In a similar way to the provided Sort component, I want to check those columns and allow pass-throughs (or not) for the others - so next to each input column name I need two checkboxes (1:use for dedupe; 2:include in output if 1 not checked). If a column is checked for use in the dedupe, I want some other attributes to be shown indicating how it will be used. How do I display the checkboxes to let users select which columns to include for deduplication, and then how do I add further attributes underneath (copying the Sort component's look) for selection?

Thanks in advance for guidance and pointers on this.

Conditionally Adding A Column To My Custom Component (part 2)

Mar 13, 2006

A month or so ago I instigated this thread- http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=243117&SiteID=1 which talked about how to conditionally add a column to my component depending on the value of a custom property. If the custom property is TRUE then the column should appear in the output (and vice versa).

Bob Bojanic said I should use the SetComponentProperty() method to do this and that is working pretty well. However, it bothers me that SetComponentProperty() could be called, the column will then be added, and then the package developer could press 'Cancel'. In this instance the value of my custom property would be inconsistent with the presence of the extra column.

How do you get around that?

Thanks

Jamie

Custom Transform Component, Change Type Or Add Output Column

Would anyone happen to have any pointers or know of any good code examples to either programmatically change the type of an input column when it is passed through the component, or add a new column to the output? I am extracting data from an Oracle database which is in Julian date format (represented within SSIS as a DT_NUMERIC column) and I need to to either transform the input column holding it into a date column, or to dynamically add a new output column holding the transformed data.

Many thanks

Xml Ssis Data Flow Component?

There is a table with a column that contains Xml documents. For each record from my Data Flow Source, I want to pass in the Xml document and the node to interrogate, and return the value contained in the node. Like the Crm component, this is probably one I will have to write from scratch in C#, but I would like to avoid having to create the custom component if it already exists in the public arena.

Does anyone know of any Xml Ssis Data Flow Components that are downloadable for free?

To all the SSIS gurus,

I have a situation where I have multiple source tables, I need to populate the destination tables that have the same schema as the source ones. I dont want to do the repetitive task of creating a Dataflow for each source-destination load.

I want to create one custom dataflow component and loop through all my source tables and provide destination tables dynamically.

Is there a way to do that? Any custom data flow component out there??

Your ideas are greatly appreciated.

The Data Flow's Default Destination Component

Dec 10, 2007

Is there a default destination component used when a new data flow is created? The reason I ask is simply curiosity. I have an xml file with 2 pieces of data: item A and item B. A should simply get copied out of the file. B should undergo a quick transform. I set up an XML source such that two columns are mapped correctly to the XML source data of A and B. I set up my data transform task as well. So, if I leave those two components on the .dtsx page with no other components, then will there be a default data flow destination already created? ...OR, do you always have to have a destination component?

Thanks for the input. I am just curious.

Using Variables In Data Flow Script Component

Jan 12, 2006

I have a package variable that I set via an ExecuteSQL task.  I want to reference it in a data flow script component.  In the Script component I enter the variable into the ReadOnlyVariables collection, then in the script I reference it as Me.Variables.var.  (E.G.  counter = Me.Variables.var)

I'm getting errors when the data flow starts:

I have no problem referencing other variables that I have in DerivedColumn transformations.  I've tried putting the variable in the ReadWriteVariables collection but I get the same error.  I don't understand why this is so difficult.  Please help.

Passing Variables To Data Flow Component

Apr 27, 2006

Hi,

I've read the various posts and articles regarding this matter, but I seem to have problems getting to work:

In my control flow, I start by declaring a variable named "LastJobLedgerEntryID", to identify the records I need to add to the stage. From there I would like to use this variable in the source component in my dataflow, i.e.:

"SELECT [Entry No_],[Job No_],[Posting Date],[Document No_],[Type],[No_],[Description],[Quantity],[Direct Unit Cost],[Unit Cost],[Unit Price],[Chargeable],[Job Posting Group],[Global Dimension 1 Code],[Global Dimension 2 Code],[Work Type Code] FROM mytable WHERE [Entry No_] > " + @[User::LastJobLedgerEntryID]

But this fails? I should note that the variable LastJobLedgerEntryID is stored as a int32, and with the default value of 0

Could someone please help me with this?

Thanks in advance!

UnDoubleError Data Flow Component Problem

Oct 30, 2007

Hello-

I have an SSIS package which I've been using for nearly a year now. Basically the package is responsible for looping through a directory, and importing pipe delimited files into a database.

The issue I'm having is with the UnDoubleError data flow component. I've been using it to remove the qualifiers from the data being imported, in this case it happens to be double-quotes. ex: { " " } I have found that the component will insert a single double-quote { " } when it finds a null string, or two consecutive qualifiers for that matter. If there are two qualifiers with a space seperating them, then it will insert an empty string, or rather a string with one space in it, and the qualifiers will be removed.

The dilemma is since the log files have some columns which are technically NULL, by that I mean columns where there exists only two qualifiers ex: { "" } the UnDoubleError component then inserts a single double-quote. I want to retain the NULL value if it exists, though still use the component to remove the qualifiers when there actually is data there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help...

How To Connect To Oracle In A Script Component In A Data Flow

Nov 9, 2007

Hi

After having read the forums I understand that it is not possible to use parameters in the "Ole Db Command", when connecting to Oracle.

What I have to do, is to delete a record in an Oracle table from within the "Data Flow", based on parameters.

It does not seem to be possible to create the SQL statement in a variable (with parameters generated) and use the variable in the "Ole Db Command"

Instead I probably need to use the "Script Component"?

So what I need is step by step guidance for how to connect to and interact with an Oracle database from a Script Component, what to import and where, what to declare and where, and generally a way to get this to work.

Any help appreciated.

Using Expressions In Custom Data Flow Transformation

Sep 18, 2006

Hi,

I'm creating a custom data flow transformation in c#.

I would like to use expressions within this component in the same way as in the derived column component: specifying the expression as a custom property of an output column, then evaluating this expression for each row of the buffer and using this evaluated expression to populate my output column values.

So I've added an custom expression on my output column, and set its expression type to CPET_NOTIFY

IDTSCustomProperty90 exp = col.CustomPropertyCollection.New();

exp.Name = "Expression";

exp.ExpressionType = DTSCustomPropertyExpressionType.CPET_NOTIFY;

But in the ProcessInput method I don't manage to get the evaluated expressions, when I use exp.Value I get my expression definition and not its evaluation.

Is there a way to get these evaluated expressions ?

Thanks,

Stéphane
