Custom Parameter For Select Paramters - How To Use The Value Of Another Field As The Paramter Default.

SELECT ArticleID, ArticleTitle, ArticleDate, Published, PublishDate, PublishEndDate
FROM UserArticles
WHERE (ArticleDate >= PublishDate) AND (ArticleDate <= PublishEndDate)
When I use the above on a GridView I get nothing. Using SQL manager it works great.
I don't know how to pass the value of the ArticleDate field as a default parameter or I think that's what I don't know how to do.
I am trying to create a app that I can set the dates an article will appear on a page and then go away depending on the date.

I have a dataset listing distinct values for items (like 1, D10, M4, etc.) The WHERE statement in my query refers to unit IN(@Unit). I then have 2 report parameters to select 1) a date (datetime); and 2) a multivalue parameter to select one or all of the "units". I would like the second parameter to default to "Select All". Can someone tell me how to do this? I'm sure this is a fairly simple thing but I am really struggling. The report parameter is set as multivalue; My "available values" is set to "from query" and refers to my "unit" dataset and the value and label fields are set to "unit" (only field I bring into this particular dataset). The "Default Values" section is set to "from query" , the dataset is set to "unit" and the value is set to "unit". I can preview the report and select a date but the list of units comes up with all boxes unchecked, including "Select All". Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have a report with a dataset/parameter to select the salesperson.

In the preview mode the "All salespersons" is selected. When I deploy I see in the web user interface "<Select a Value>". The second choice is "All salespersons".
Is there a way to see "All salespersons" in the web user interface? How do I select a default value from my dataset of salespersons?

Hi!
I have the following problem:
In my report I have -among others- a multi-value parameter, populated by a query (so I cannot a priori know the content of the list).
I would like my report to start without any user choice, through default parameters, so what I need is the "select all" choice selected by default. How can I achieve this?
[The only default value I am able to pass to the multi-value parameter is one of the elements populating the list, statically writing it in the "Non-queried" section of "Default values": "From query" option seems not to work for multi-valued]
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,
I have a stored procedure that one of the select parameters is a NCHAR (250)
I need to select and RTRIM() is, and add 3 spaces
I've tried many options, but each time I get the full trimmed version of the column
This is what I've tried:
SELECT (RTRIM(c.customer_name) + space(3)) as CustomerName
SELECT (RTRIM(c.customer_name) + ' ') as CustomerName
SELECT (RTRIM(c.customer_name) + replicate(' ',3)) as CustomerName
Any suggestions?

I have created a stored procedure in sql server with parameters for my c# application. Wanted to know is there anyway to set the default value for @searchpostcode to select all the records?
Right now it brings the records based on the postcode specified .(I have dropdownlist in my c# application that passes the parameters for postcode)

Hi,
I need "conditional" cascading parameters: In Report Manager when one changes parameter 1, parameter 2 get changed based on parameter 1. Optionally, one can also enter values to parameter 2 directly.
I was able to achieve this in SSRS 2000 (SP2) with the following setups. SSRS 2005 and SP1 no longer works - Parameter 2 always shows its default value regardless whether one select a value in Parameter 1 or not.
Parameter 1
available values: from query
default values: non query (specify a value "<None>")
Parameter 2
available values: Non query (no value specified)
default values: from query (based on Parameter 1)
It seems to me that the default value in SSRS 2000 is considered as cascading parameter. But it is no longer the case in SSRS 2005.
Is this a SSRS 2005 bug? is there any other work arounds or suggestions?

Hi,
I have parameters in my report. The user can choose the year, month and date (3 parameters).
Now I want to set default vaules for the parameters , so that the user sees the report for example for the current day without selecting the parameters. I tried to set the type of the parameters to DateTime and the default value for example for the year to "=Today().Year" . But when I execute the report an error occures . Something like : no validValue for this parameter.
My Attributes for the year month and date are from an Analyis Services Cube from a Server Time dimension .
Does somebody know how to make it possible to set default values for this parameters?
Other question :
Does somebody know how I can reduce the values for a parameter. For Example I have a parameter "year" from a server time dimension from a cube. The values which are available are "Year 2004", "Year 2005", "Year 2006", "Year 2007".
But I want that the user only can choose "Year 2006" or "Year 2007" ant not every Year or "All".
Or Other Example: The User should only choose a Date that is int the past or Today but not a Date in the future.

Are there some general recommendations/guidelines/best practices for choosing to run your custom application against a default or named instance of SQL Server?
We have an application, which in it's stand-alone/local configuration, installs an MSDE default instance if it does not already exist, and runs against this instance. In addition, regardless of whether or not it installs the default instance, it expects to run against the default instance.
We are looking into migrating to SQL Server 2005 Express (Compact almost fits our needs, but not quite), and would like to pay more attention to the best solution regarding the use of instances, default versus named.

Hi All,
I need to create a new field on a table and have that field default to another field value in that same table. Is there a way to do this w/ a default constraint rather than adding a trigger to the table? If i can't use a default constraint does anyone have a template trigger i could use? Below is an example of what i'm trying to do (Field_C is the new field and i want it to use Field_A value if no other value is specified on insert). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
alter table FOO add Field_C varchar(50) not null constraint FOO_default DEFAULT Field_A

I'm using a GAC-installed assembly as part of a Reporting Services
(2005) report. The code does not need any permissions beyond execution.
All it does it take today's date and calculate last week's start and
end date. It's all just datetime manipulations. All methods are static.
In
the VS2005 report designer, I can do everything fine. The code runs as
expected and defaults the parameters to the right date.
When I
upload the rdl to the Report Server, I get the message "Error during
processing of €˜Start€™ report parameter.
(rsReportParameterProcessingError) ". If I override the "Start"
parameter, it doesn't give me that error anymore. Start should be the
Sunday of the previous week.
I have deployed the signed assembly to the GAC on the report server as well as the bin folder for reporting services. Because it doesn't need anything beyond execution, I shouldn't have to modify any config files, right? I have already restarted IIS & the Reporting Services service.
What am I missing?

Hello,
Is it possible to add a multivalued parameter to a report from C#? I already have a C# .dll which I reference in the report. If so, could someone give some hints on how to do it?
As I searched the net for an answer to this, I came across ReportExecutionService. It looks like it's what I want, but I cant find the dll to reference in order to used this class. Does anyone know?
If it is not possible to do this from C#, then can someone please give an example on how to do it from Custom Code?

I'm using a stored procedure that receives one parameter namely @EmployeeID INT
but when I want to give this parameter a default value, my SP fails.
I did it like with a varchar where it works.

I'm copying MyDbTable to TempdbTable. There are 12 fields and I'm ignoring 11 of them when copying the one table to another with DTSWizard.
Once the TempdbTable is there, I'm adding 2 fields along with the one that is there already.
1) field1 int, Nullable, Default value ((3))
2) field2 tinyint, Nullable, Default value ((1))
The reason why I'm creating these two fields and giving them a value so they will match up when I import TempdbTable to MyDb2ndTable.
The problem I'm having is... field1 and field2 have a Null value intead of the value I'm giving them.
I'm new at this, so maybe the cause of the problem is obvious, but if anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it.

I am using a query to grab information about the parameters of stored procedures. I am trying to determine if a parameter has a default value. I have tried adding a default value to the parameter of the stored procedure, but the returned value of params.has_default_value stays at zero. What is going on?
Here's the query to pull the stored procedure information:

I have a report which has paramets as startdate and enddate. I want to set default value as yesterday. So when It opens it shows yesterday data.

Hi everyone,
I have a report that a user can enter parameters in. If the user opens the report the parameter box is at the top and expanded. The report is also linked to by another report, so when a user clicks on something in this other report it becomes the parameter for the one I'm having the problem with. The problem is the user can select the number of days that are displayed, so when I link from the other report I just pass 10 by default, but now in the report the parameter box is collapsed and I'm worried that users won't find it. Is there a way to force it to be expanded? Sorry this is probably confusing to read.
