Custom SSIS Control Flow Task Implemented In C++
Nov 12, 2007
Hi Guys,
This is a question to the SSIS development team. I would like to know what are the requirements to implement custom SSIS Control Flow task in C++ . There is a documentation describing the process when implementing a managed task, but no such documentation exists for implementing a task in C++.
Thank you,
Ivan

Hello All Experts,
I have created one custom task with PropertyGrid Control and two button on it. I have everything under one class library project.
Problem I am facing is when i load task and clik on Edit I can not see those properties into that GUI and even functionlity of those two buttons (OK and Cancel) not working but I am able to see those properties in default property window.
If I create this GUI as a seperate window application then I am able to see those properties in GUI and buttons also working but in SSIS I am not able to load the task.
After reading on internet about SSIS they suggest to create everything under one project which I did.
Basically I am trying to populate connection managers like Source Connection and Destination Connection when I load this task and there are much more backend functionlity but at first step i m stuck and not able to see those properties in GUI.
Please help and give your input on it. I was following "Increment Task" example given by MSDN.
If you need more info let me know.
Thanks

I've been using Konesan's FileWatcher control-flow item successfully in design-mode on my PC, which runs the package on a remote server.
I have installed the Konesan's FileWatcher on the remote SQLServer machine. I then imported the package to the server (Files System folder). I then select the package, right-click 'Run Package', then Execute, and receive the error:
"Error: The task 'File Watcher Task' cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition"
..in the 'Package Execution Progeress' dialog. All other validation seem to be ok.
(Note, I'm executing the above steps using SQLServer Mgt Studio from my PC ; I'm not doing it from the SQLServer machine itself...not sure if this matters or not.)
The SSIS version installed on the server is 9.0.3054. It shouldn't be an "SSIS version issue", as it is the same SQLServer that I used (successfully) from my PC in design mode...
Thanks,
Allen

Hi everyone,
Primary platform is 64 bit cluster.
How to move information allocated in SSIS variables from Data Flow to Control Flow layers??
We've got a SSIS package which load a value into a variable inside a Data Flow. Going back to Control Flow how could we retrive that value again????
Thanks in advance and regards,

Greetings.
I'm trying to conditionally execute a dataflow based on the presence of a data file. If the data file isn't present, I'd like to execute gracefully without error.
Logic is as follows:
If FileExists Then
execute dataflow
Else
exit w/o error
End If
I've got the code ready to go, but I'm not sure how to do this conditional branch logic. Right now, the code calls the Dts.Results.Success / Failure. The problem, however, is Failure is exactly that... which doesn't result in the graceful exit I'm looking for.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
What SSIS Task or process can i use to stop my Control Flow Process from running?
I created a SQL Task to do a count on a table to see if there is data, if the count is > 0 then the Control Flow task must continue, else it uses a RAISERROR statement which i use with the event handler, but i want to put something in the event handler to stop the process then and not continue?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards

Hi all,
I have a Send Mail Task in my control flow to notify users that the processing is done. I want to avoid the package to fall in error if the Send Mail task failed.
What is the best practice to do that ?
Should I raise the MaximumErrorCount of theSend Mail Task ? Should I play with ErrorHandler ?

I am having a hard time with what appears to be something simple. I want to import an excel spreadsheet into a table on a daily basis from a command line. I created a package from the Import Wizzard in the SQL Management Studio and saved it. Since I want a clean table each day, my process needs to be create a temp table, import from the Excel file into the temp table. If that is successful, delete the original table and rename the temp table the original name. The point of this process is to provide for a fail-safe if there is some unforseen problem downloading the data on a particular day.
When I run the package, the first thing it does is delete the original table. I know this because the process shows the time that it finished is before anything else has started or finished. The time shown for the completion of the data flow task is about 2 minutes after that time.
This is maddening!!! The one thing I do not want to happen I can not seem to prevent. I have my control flow set on success. Why does it do this?

I implemented a custom source adaptor. I want to be able to associate custom properties with each of the output columns. I want them to be passed downsteam. The idea is to be able to retrieve these information in a downstream custom transformations of ours and process the various columns accordingly. How do I go about doing this?I noticed that the IDTSCustomProperty90 seems to have a local scope only.

Hi,
I developed a custom data flow task in .net 2.0 using Visual Studio 2005. I installed it into GAC using GACUTIL and also copied it into the pipeline directory. This task runs absolutely fine when I run it on my local machine both in BIDS and using the script in windows 2000 environment. However, when I deployed this package into a windows 2003 server, the package fails at the custom task level. I checked the GAC in windowsassembly directory and it is present. Also I copied the file into the PipeLine directory and verified that I copied it into the correct pipeline directory by checking the registry. The version of the assembly is still Debug. I looked up documentation in MSDN but there is very little information about the errors I am seeing.
The error I get is pasted below, Can somebody please help me as I am currently stuck and running out of ideas to fix this problem.
Code: 0xC0047067
Source: DFT Raw File DFT Raw File (DTS.Pipeline)
Description: The "component "_" (2546)" failed to cache the component metadata object and returned error code 0x80131600.

SSIS Newbie Question:
I have a simple Control Flow setup that checks to see if a particular table exists. If the table does not exists, the table is created in an alternate path, if it does exist, the table is truncated before moving to a file import Data Flow that uses an OLE DB Destination to output the imported data.
My problem is, that I get OLE DB package errors if the table the OLE DB Destination Container references does not exist when I load the package.
How can I over come this issue? I need to be able to dynamically create the table in an earlier step, then use that table to import data into in a later step in the workflow.
Is there a switch I can use to turn off checking in the OLE DB Destination Container so that it will allow me to hook up the table creation step?
Seems like this would be a common task...
Steps:
1. Execute SQL Task to see if the required table exists
2. Use expresions to test a variable to check the results of step 1
3. If table exists, truncate the table and reload it from file in Data Flow using OLE DB Destination
4. If table does not exist, 1st create it, then follow the normal Data Flow
Can someone help me with this?
Signed: Clueless with a deadline approaching...

Hello all,
Is there documentation somewhere about multiple execution paths in SSIS control flow? I didn't find documentation anywhere. I have a situation where I have two tasks that take considerable time, but could be executed in parallel (to speed up things) and I was wondering whether SSIS supports parallelism.
To illustrate the issues in simultaneous execution, I created a test SSIS package. In the package, I have five tasks, let's call them T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5. The taks are connected with "green arrows" like this:
T1->T2
T1->T3
T2->T4
T3->T4
T5 is not connected. The tasks can be e.g. Send Mail tasks, that's not relevant to this issue. I put a breakpoint in each task and execute the package.
When I execute package, T1 and T5 become active, i.e. the arrow that displays where the package execution currently is, is in two tasks simultaneously. Now F10 (step over) doesn't seem to work "Unable to step. Not implemented". If I press F5 nothing happens. After I press F5 for a second time tasks T1 and T5 and executed. Why don't they execute with the first pressing of F5? I would additionally like to know whether these two tasks are executed in parallel or sequentially, i.e. in the same thread or in two threads? Is there documentation of this?
The execution stops at T2&T3. Again, pressing F5 doesn't do anything, but the second time I press F5 T2 and T3 are executed.

I want to get the start time of data load and end time after data load and store it in a table which has mapping_id , mapping_name,start_time,end_time.
i use ActiveXScript task to get the start time before data load and store the mapping_id in a global variable,then data flow transformation occurs.
i want to use a global variable to store the mapping id ,so that i can update the end time after data load with that variable.how to do this?
is there any other way, i can get the start and end time of data load (other than the logging information)?

Why isn't there some documentation on how to do this. This should be really simple and it has taken me 2 weeks and I still haven't gotten an answer. Please Help Does anyone know the answner or some place where there is some documentation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I get the following error when I try to substitute the strings in the databasedetails collection with variables:
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. StackTrace: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.TransferObjectsTask.TransferObjectsTask.CheckLocalandDestinationStatus(Database srcDatabase, DatabaseInfo dbDetail) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.TransferObjectsTask.TransferObjectsTask.TransferDatabasesUsingSpAttachDetach()
I created the following variables:
strDestinationDB = AirCL2Exp_new3
strDestinationDBPath = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLDATAAirCL2Exp_new3_Data.mdf
strDestinationLGPath = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLDATAAirCL2Exp_new3_Data.ldf

strSourceDBPath = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLDataDataNewAirCL2Exp_Data.mdf
strSourceLGPath = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2MSSQLDataDataNewAirCL2Exp_Log.ldf
I then assigned those variable to DatabaseDetails Collection:
DatabaseName = @strSourceDB
DestinationDatabaseName = @strDestinationDB
Inaddtion I also assigned the following to the two DatabaseFiles Collection:
for 0:
DatabaseFileSize = 0
DestinationFilePath = @strDestinationDBPath
FileType = DatabaseFile
SourceFilePath = @strSourceDBPath
SourceSharePath = @strSourceDBPath
for 1:
DatabaseFileSize = 0
DestinationFilePath = @strDestinationLGPath
FileType = LogFile
SourceFilePath = @strSourceLGPath
SourceSharePath = @strSourceLGPath

Hi all,
I am creating a customer data flow component for SSIS for use in a package. I've got some custom properties that I am exposing using the supplied advanced editor (no custom property editor here).
Some of my properties are enumerated types, and I have deciphered how to get those properties to show as dropdown lists of their respective enumerations. (For those of you who may be looking as hard as I did as to how to accomplish this, see the end of this post.)
I also have a few properties which request SSIS package variable names - such as an file name variable. However, I can't figure out how to tell the advanced editor that the property is looking for an SSIS variable, so that it can show a dropdown list of package variables, much like virtually any other Microsoft supplied Data Flow component can.
Is there a Type Converter I could specify for those custom properties? Is there another way to instruct SSIS that my custom property is expecting a variable? Or do I need to code a custom UI for editing my Data Flow Task?
To create a dropdown list of values for a custom property that represents an enum, do the following:
1. Create your enum definition, such as "public enum ThisIsMyEnum { one, two }"
2. Create a new class that inherits from TypeConverter, such as "public class MyEnumConverter : TypeConverter"
3. Override "CanConvertFrom", and return true if "sourceType == typeof(string)"
4. Override "CanConvertTo", and return true if "destinationType == typeof(string)"
5. Override "ConvertFrom", and return the enum value (such as "one" or "two" in my example) that corresponds to the string passed in the parameter "value"
6. Override "ConvertTo", and return a string that corresponds to the enum value passed in the parameter "value"
7. Override "GetStandardValuesSupported" and return true
8. Override "GetStandarValuesExclusive" and return true to indicate that ONLY the enum values should be accepted
9. Override "GetStandardValues", and return a new StandardValuesCollection constructed with Enum.GetValues() of your enum, such as "return new StandardValuesCollection(Enum.GetValues(typeof(ThisIsMyEnum)));"
10. Just above your "public enum" declaration, add a "TypeConverter" attribute to link your type converter to your enum, such as "[TypeConverter(typeof(MyEnumConverter))]"
11. In "ProvideComponentProperties", after you've created your custom property like this: "IDTSCustomProperty90 propEnum = ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertyCollection.New()", add another line to specify the TypeConverter property of the property to the full assembly name of your type converter, like so: "propEnum.TypeConverter = typeof(MyEnumConverter).AssemblyQualifiedName;"

I recently upgraded to on 2012 SP1 CU5 and have found the SSDT gui for SSIS to be almost unusable. I can't drag or resize items. Any time i try they either automagically shrink to the tiniest possible size, shoot off to some extreme or just shake uncontrollably I didn't have these problems on previous versions (dont remember what It was).
Is there a fix for this?

I was working all day making changes to my 3MB package. I was adding a large number of transforms that were copied-and-pasted from elsewhere in the same data flow task.
All was going well. I even took the time to have SSIS lay out the task again (1/2 hour). Suddenly I started receiving some strange errors:
After the layout, I noticed two stray components 'way off in the upper right corner. I found that one of them had a duplicate name to a component which had been added hours ago. Even after deleting it, I got "duplicate name" errors.
I copied three components in one selection, and when I tried to paste them, got the error "can't initialize component on paste". I tried them one at a time, but got the same error.
I got errors about COM failures due to marshalling to another thread
I then exited Visual Studio and started it again. To my great surprise, the data flow task I was working on was still there, but was completely empty.
Comparing what I'm left with to my last version in source control, I find that the entire pipeline element is missing from the DTS: ObjectData element!
I'm developing a real love/hate relationship with SSIS. It varies from one day to the next. Guess what kind of day this is!

Hi, All,
I need to pass a parameter from control flow to data flow. The data flow will use this parameter to get data from a Oracle source.
I have an Execute SQL task in control flow to assign value to the Parameter, next step is a data flow which will need take a parameter in the SQL statement to query the Oracle source,
The SQL Looks like this:
select * from ccst_acctsys_account
where to_char(LAST_MODIFIED_DATE, 'YYYYMMDD') >?
THe problem is the OLE DB source Edit doesn€™t have anything for mapping parameter.
Thanks in Advance

Hi, there,
I am having some problems with the loading of tab delimited text file (source) to a SQL Server table (destination) using the SSIS data flow task. Package has been executed successfully with no error msg. The number of rows in the text file also matches the number of rows in the SQL table. But, when I check the content of the table, I noticed some of the columns contain NULL which supposed to have value. This happens not to all the rows but only to some rows. I did some testing by removing some rows from the beginning, middle and end of the text file and re-run the package but the result is quite inconsistent. Sometimes, the field got filled, but sometimes, it just contains NULL where it supposed to have value.
What will be the possible causes to this?
Thanks in advance.

Yong Hwee

Hi,
I am experiencing an error where the ssis data flow task would freeze and stop data export from a oledb source to a text file. It doesn't generate any errors the ssis package would just hang. This only happens when I run it in 64 bit mode. When I change the mode to 32 bit the ssis never freezes and runs fine. Has anyone experience this? Is there a fix so I can run my jobs in 64 bit mode?
Thanks,

I have an Execute SQL Task that returns a Full Rowset from a SQL Server table and assigns it to a variable objRecs. I connect that to a foreach container with an ADO enumerator using objRecs variable and Rows in first table mode. I defined variables and mapped them to the columns.
I tested this by placing a Script task inside the foreach container and displaying the variables in a messagebox.
Now, for each row, I want to write a record to an MS Access table and then update a column back in the original SQL Server table where I retreived data in the Execute SQL task (i have the primary key). If I drop a Data Flow Task inside my foreach container, how do I pass the variables as input to an OLE DB Destination on the Data Flow?
Also, how would I update the original source table where source.id = objRects.id?
Thank you for your assistance. I have spent the day trying to figure this out (and thought it would be simple), but I am just not getting SSIS. Sorry if this has been covered.
Thanks,
Steve

I'm currently setting variables at the package level with an ExecuteSQL task. This works fine. However, I'm now starting to think about restartability midway through a package. It would be nice to have the variable(s) needed in a data flow set within the data flow so that I only have to restart that task.
Is there a way to do that using an SQL statement as the source of the value in a data flow?
OR, when using checkpoints will it save variable settings so that they are available when the package is restarted? This would make my issue a moot point.

Hi there,
I'm still pretty new to SSIS, what I am really battling with is getting a custom task to work.
I have developed a custom task, digitally signed it added it to the Global Assembly Cache, written the UI for it - Pretty much as it is done here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms136080.aspx
but my problem is that when I drag it from the tool box into the control flow pane, I get this message: "The task user interface specified by type name 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' could not be loaded.
(Microsoft.DatatransformationServices.Design).
Does anybody have an idea of what I am doing wrong here?
Duane.

I have a relatively simple SSIS package that I'm building for a data mining process. The package starts with an OLE DB data source, passes the results of a SQL Command (query) along to a conversion step, which then gets sent to a Term Lookup task. The Term Lookup then writes the result to an OLE DB Data Destination. Pretty simple. The OLE DB data source query returns about 80,000 rows if you run it through SQL WB. The SSIS editor shows 9,557 rows make it out of the source, and into the conversion step, 9,557 make it out of the conversion and into the lookup, and about 60,000 rows make it out of the lookup and are written to the results table. Then the package fails with the following errors listed on the progress screen. I was assuming that the 9,557 was some type of batching that was occurring in the process, but now I'm not so sure.
Thoughts?

I have a package that loads staging tables from an Oracle source DB. In the data flow tab I have 30+ read table/write table task combinations. When I run the package 3-4 of the read/write combos execute at a time. What I'm trying to control is the priority order of the combo execution. My goal is to minimize to total load time by having the larger table transfers run first and the smaller table transfers fill in until they are all complete. Currently, the largest table (16 million) transfers last (because it was the last combo that I created?).
Thanks,
Dave

I am creating a staging database in which I am loading required tables from 2 different sources.
I have 30 different tables to load from source 1 and 10 different tables from source 2.
This is the way I am doing, in Control flow task I am using Sequence container and in that I included the data flow task, the data flow task
has source OLD DB connection from where I select the table and then destination OLE DB connection where I load the data.
So for 30 tables I have one Sequence container with 30 different data flow task and each data flow task has OLE DB source and OLD DB destination.
I wanted to find out if this is the efficient way to do, or if there is any other way to do this.
And for source 2 shall I put in another package or shall I use the same package with different sequence container and follow the same steps
as for Source 1 tables.
Please advice.
Thanks,

I've written several custom Control Flow and Data Flow components for SSIS. I'm trying to deploy a new Control Flow Task, however it will not show up in the "Choose Toolbox Items" window.
I have my dll's all in the right place. Because of other painful issues we have not used the GAC, and instead have put our DLL's that are referenced in the following directory: C:program filesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinn. This has worked fine for other custom tasks, but not for this one.
The only things that are different about this transform are the following:
1. Not only does the task inherit from Task, it also implements two interfaces that I wrote.
2. One of the assembly references is actualy an executable instead of a dll. This is unusual, but I've done it with other .NET projects and not had any trouble.
I could move the code I need from the EXE out to a DLL. If somebody knows what could be causing this please respond?
