Custom Stored Procs: Determining Source Table Name

Jan 17, 2006

Hello all ...

I'm looking at writing some customized insert, update and delete stored procs for a replication target. For various reasons I would like to write a "one size fits all" custom stored proc for each of these tasks.

It looks like I can get the data values passed as parameters just fine.

I was wondering if there's a way to also pass the source schema and table name as parameters, or to determine these on the fly in my all purpose stored procs. Some replication products refer to these types of values as "tokens" that can be included in the replication data stream sent to the target.

I can adjust the source database replication publications, and article definitions, but I cannot modify the actual source database tables to include these as values in data columns. It is possible a view that contains these elements as strings might fly, but I was hoping to avoid cluttering the source database.

A handy trick or technique would be helpful!

Thanks!

Stored Procs: Is There A Way To Divide Up (or Namespace) Groups Of Stored Procs

Jan 15, 2008

Is there a way to namespace groups of stored procs to reduce confusion when using them?

For C# you can have ProjectName.ProjectSection.Classname when naming a class. I am just wondering if there is a way to do the same with SQL stored procs. I know Oracle has packages and the name of the package provides a namespace for all of the stored procs inside it.

OLE DB Source To Flat File Destintation Using Fixed Width Columns - Determining Source Column Width

Feb 13, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to create a program that transfers tables to flat files.
At this point in time, I have suceeded in created one that creates delimited files.

However, I am now trying to create fixed-width files as you can do with the SSIS designer, but programatically.

Is there a way to programatically determine the width of a column from the source table? I can not seem to find any kind of function or member that stores this information or allows me to retrieve it.

I know what I need to change in order to set a width for a column, but I just don't know how to find the width without just asking the user to provide one.

Calling Stored Procs Based On A Code Table

Sep 8, 2006

I need to run stored procs based on a list in a code table. In other words, it reads the name of a stored proc from a table and runs it and does this for all the rows in the table. I think the ForEach loop container will do what I need and there is an ADO enumerator option but the documentation does not tell you how to use this. From what I can tell, you need to get a dataset into an SSIS variable first and then you plug the variable name into the ForEach ADO enumerator. Is that correct? If so, can someone tell me how to get a dataset into a variable?

Thanks

Problem Determining If IDTSComponentMetaData90 Is A DataReader Source

Dec 4, 2007

I'm attempting to iterate package components of a package created in the SSIS designer, but have run into a problem identifying the DataReader Source managed component.

For instance, if iterating the dataflow task components like so:

Application app = new Application();
MainPipe pipe = taskHost.InnerObject as MainPipe;

foreach (IDTSComponentMetaData90 component in pipe.ComponentMetaDataCollection)
{

if (component.ComponentClassID == app.PiplineComponentInfos["DataReader Source"].ID)
{

// THIS IS NEVER REACHED
}
}

The ComponentClassID of the component is a GUID, but the PipelineComponentInfo.ID AND PipelineComponentInfo.CreationName are both the fully qualified assembly name of the data reader source adapter, which is:

"Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter, Microsoft.SqlServer.ADONETSrc, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91"

From reading another post i attempted to get the ProgID of the component from the class ID (ole32 ProgIDfromCLSID) but that only yields a ProgID of DTS.ManagedComponentWrapper.1

How can I properly identify this type of dataflow component?

I am running SQL Server SP2 (Developer Edition) on XP Pro SP2.

Custom Procs For Replication

Mar 20, 2006

SQL Server 2000 Enterprise

Hello,

I have a test publication of two tables. Both tables are supposed to use a custom update stored procedure
(you know, "Replace UPDATE commands with this stored procedure call:")
When updating Table1 the system calls my custom stored stored procedure.

Here is a small excerpt captured by the Profiler when updating Table1:

exec usp_FNLC_MSupd_Table1 'Jun 24 2005 12:00:00:000AM', NULL, 100081142, 0x01

Looks good. I see that my custom update proc was used (usp_FNLC_MSupd_Table1).

Now, when updating Table2 (Table2 is pretty identical to Table1) Profiler sends this back and the update on the subscriber fails:

exec sp_executesql N'delete from "Table2" where "Dates3ID" = @P1 insert into "Table2" values (@P2, @P3) ', N'@P1 int,@P2 int,@P3 datetime', 8, 8, 'Mar 24 2006 12:00:00:000AM'

Then..

exec sp_executesql N'insert into "Table1" values (@P1, @P2) ', N'@P1 int,@P2 datetime', 8, 'Mar 24 2006 12:00:00:000AM'
Go

This is what the distribution agent throws back:

Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.
(Source: DFBPBSO (Data source); Error number: 213)

So, why isn't the article Table2 using my custom update proc? All I do is updates, no deletes or inserts. No matter what I do for this article, it will not use the custom update proc.

I need help, please. Thank you in advance,
L

SQL Server 2000 Table Rename Impact On Stored Procs

Oct 12, 2004

SQL Server 2000:

Question 1

If you drop / rename a table and then recreate the table with the SAME NAME, what impact does it have on stored procedures that use these tables? From a system perspective, do you have to rebuild / recompile ALL the stored procedures that use this table?

I had a discussion with someone that said that this is a good idea, since the IDs of the tables change in sysobjects and from a SQL SERVER query plan perspective, this needs to be done...

Question 2

If you Truncate a Table as part of a BEGIN TRANSACTION, what happens if an error occurs? Will it Rollback? The theory is that it won't because Truncate doesn't utilize the logs where as Delete From uses the SQL Logs?

Thanks!

Can Profiler Show Table Rows Affected By I/U/D Action From Within Stored Procs?

Jun 13, 2007

Hello. I was using the new sys.dm_db_index_operational_stats function which is nice for seeing counts of insert/update/delete actions per table index, bla bla bla... Anyways, question, can I do the same thing with Profiler? meaning, can I trace stored procs and sopmehow see the proc exec WITH each table it does actions against? Not talking about filtering on table names in the text, talking I just want to run an application, which uses all stored procs, and see every table used by that execution of the proc, and also the number of rows inserted,updated,deleted.... If so, which Profiler events/columns must I flick on to gather that? Thanks, Bruce

Creating Stored Procs That Need To Continusiouly Append To A New Table (this Is To Scrub Data That Is Imported Into DB).

Jan 9, 2005

I have 1 table with a huge amount of data that I recive from someone else in a flat file format. I want to be able to filter through that data and scrub it and find out the good data and bad data from it.

I'm scrubbing the data using different stored procs that i've created and through a web interface that the user can pick which records they wish to create.

If I were to create a new table for clean records, what is the syntax to keep Appending to that table through the data that i'm obtainig via the stored procs that i've created.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appriciated in advance

END.

BUT IF , I USE ANOTHER PROC SIMILAR TO THE FIRST ONE WHICH GIVES SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT RESULTS AND GIVES TWO SETS OF RESULTS,THEN WE HAVE A PROBLEM,HO TO SOLVE THIS :-

CREATE PROCEDURE MY_PROC

BEGIN
SELECT A.INTCUSTOMERID,A.CHREMAIL,B.INTPREFERENCEID,C.CHR PREFERENCEDESC

MAX(case when A.intpreferenceid = 10 then '1'
else '0' end) AS PREFER
FROM CUSTOMER
GROUP BY A.INTCUSTOMERID
ORDER BY A.INTCUSTOMERID
END

WHICH NOW GIVES ME TWO SETS OF DATA , BOTH REQUIRED THEN HOW TO USE ONE SET OF RESULTS AS I/P TO ANOTHER PROC AND OTHER SET OF RESULTS AS I/P TO YET ANOTHER PROC .

CREATE PROCEDURE PROC2

CREATE TABLE #SAATHI(INTCUSTOMERID INT,CHREMAIL NVARCHAR(60),INTPREFERENCEID INT,CHRPREFERENCEDESC NVARCHAR(50))

Custom Source UI Connections

Jan 12, 2008

Everyone,

I've been fighting a problem all day now. I have given in. I need help.

Here's the problem. I have a SSIS Custom Data Flow Source, for retrieving data from a proprietary data format. The component works great. I can use the Advanced Editor to select the connection to use (also a Custom Connection Manager) and a custom property. The custom property that is the name of a table to select data from.

I am in the process to building a simple UI that has a ComboBox of Connections (by name) and a ListBox of table names available in that connection.

I want to be able to pre-select the connection in the ComboBox if one is already populated. The problem is, I can't figure out how to get access to the connection name of the currently selected connection. When I look at the RuntimeConnectionsCollection[0], that connection is not acquired. I can't get access to the name, or any of its custom properties (see above that connection is Custom also).

Assume I use the Advanced Editor to select a connection to use, then open the custom UI.

How do I figure out what the name of the connection selected is? I know it is possible. The OLE DB Source does it.

Thanks,
Frank

Custom Source Adapter UI

Jun 22, 2006

I am currently writing a custom source adapter that extracts data from a JD Edwards OneWorld system. In the custom user interface of the source component I need to allow the user to set a query (a custom property), and then refresh a list of output columns that will be extracted based upon that query (similar to the list shown in the advanced editor).

My question is, can I apply the custom property change to the component and build my output column list without closing and restarting my custom UI form? I understand that the IDTSComponentUI interface being implemented allows for transactional editing of the component, in that the changes to the component are not applied until I have returned a result in the implemented Edit() method. However is there a way to apply changes without returning this result (and closing my UI)?

Essentially I am looking to have similar behaviour to that of the 'Refresh' button in the advanced component editor form.

Thanks

I Need Help With Stored Procs And UDF

Apr 8, 2004

First off, this is a cross post which is also located here:
http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34073

Now, with the following stored procs and UDF, the Result is NULL and I cannot figure out why.

What I am doing is calling a stored procedure pass in an OUTPUT variable of type float. This stored proceudre then calls a different stored procedure passing the same OUTPUT variable of type float. The second stored procedure then calls a UDF passing in two variables to be multiplied ans this should set the OUTPUT variable to the result.

The UDF does return the correct result to the interior stored procedure, but the interior stored procedure does not pass the value back to the original stored procudure resultint in a Result value = NULL.

The code is below, just copy / past, execute and you will see exactly what I mean.

Any thoughts?

GO

CREATE FUNCTION RECTANGULAR_XSECTION

New To Stored Procs

Nov 13, 2007

I am trying to improve my SQL and reduce the number of connections my website is making to the server.

Currently I have a stored procedure that gets all the games (and their details) for a single user which works fine which uses a WHERE userid = @userid which is an Int value.

I now need to create a new procedure which brings back the to all their "friends" (again by their userid). How is it best to do this? I originally tried to do a WHERE userID IN (@userid) but was unable to work out what variable type to use for @userid.

Is it best to do a single query in this way or is there a way to use the existing SP, loop through the collection of userids and join the result together into a single set to return? If an IN is the best route, what is the correct datatype for the variable?

Custom Source Component Problem?

Mar 23, 2006

Hi,I have developed a custom source component to get data from a generic odbc connection with some special caracteristics.

The component works fine by getting and mapping the output fields etc...

The only two problems existing are that when i run the task it says that the data flow has no components inside... how is this possible since i have my source mapped to a flat file inside that data flow?

This is the error:

SSIS package "BVEIT000D.dtsx" starting.

Warning: 0x80047034 at BVEIT000D_<EMPRESA> TXT, DTS.Pipeline: The DataFlow task has no components. Add components or remove the task.

Information: 0x4004300C at BVEIT000D_<EMPRESA> TXT, DTS.Pipeline: Execute phase is beginning.

SSIS package "BVEIT000D.dtsx" finished: Success.

The other problem is that if i want to <ignore> a certain source column the component already shows me an error saying that the no column with ID 0 was found...

Any one with experience in creating custom components?

IF Statement In Stored Procs... Help!

Apr 12, 2004

Hi all!

I am not an expert in Stored Procs. I would like to build one for a product list that would return a default value without using output parameters, if possible. Ultimately, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

It currently looks like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE ProductsByVendorNo
(
@VendorNum nvarchar(24)
)
AS

SELECT
P.ProductID AS ProductID,
P.ProductShortName AS ProductName,
P.ProductDesc AS ProductDesc,
U.UnitDesc AS Unit,
P.VendorProductNumber AS VendorNumber,
V.VendorName AS VendorName,
P.Price AS Price,
P.ImageThumb AS ImageThumb

FROM
tblProducts AS P
INNER JOIN tblUnitCodes AS U ON P.UnitCode=U.UnitCode
INNER JOIN tblVendors AS V ON P.VendorID=V.VendorID

WHERE
V.VendorsVendorNo = @VendorNum
AND P.Inactive = 0

ORDER BY
ProductName,
VendorNumber

I would like for it to return a default, constant value for the URL in the ImageThumb field, if this one is empty. I could not find good documentation of how to use IF statements for this case, i.e. to alter the return of just one field.

Suggestions?

Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
