CustomQueryDesigner Problem: React To Resize Event Of QueryDesigner Window

Feb 5, 2007

Hello everybody!

I am currently developing a CustomQueryDesigner which is based on a Windows.Form that I have already developed.

Currently the QueryDesigner Class contains two UserControls: the ToolBar and the class that wrapps my own QueryDesigner.

So what I want to do now, is to resize my Windows.Form which is encapsulated in the second UserControl whenever the size of the window, that contains these two UserControls, is modified.

I already tried to use the "Parent" property and the "FindForm()" method but both just return "null".

--> I do not unterstand how I can access these informations!

Please help me out!

How To Connect To Sql Server As Other's Window Login Rather Than User's Window Login Thorugh ASP.NET.

Dec 14, 2006

Dear members,

In MSDN, it says that it is recommended to use windows authentication to connect to SQL Server rather than use mixed authentication.

I create user deltasqluser on windows OS, and I specify in my webform ASP.NET script below :

protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label Label1;
private string _connString = @"data source=deltasql2000;initial catalog=northwind;integrated security=false;user id=deltasqluser";
/*
comment : I login to my windows as deltakoronx, and I want to every user (including me), connected to sql server through IIS, will be identified as deltasqluser not as user's login (impersonate)
*/
private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(_connString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();
cmd.Connection = conn;
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
cmd.CommandText = "select suser_sname()";

conn.Open();

string userName = cmd.ExecuteScalar() as string;
conn.Close();
conn.Close();
Label1.Text = userName;
}

at web.config, I add :
<identity impersonate="false" userName="deltasqluser" password="" />

at IIS webApplication1's properties, tab "Directory Security", at "Authentication and access control" section, I checked "enable anonymous access" with user : DELTAIUSR_DELTA and checked "Integrated Windows Authentication",

at query analyzer, I login as "sa" and execute script below :
exec sp_grantdbaccess 'deltasqluser','northwind'

when I run the ASP.NET script, error at conn.Open(); with error message :
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.

What should I do so that IIS login to SQL Server as user deltasqluser not as "NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE" ?

Regards,

Koronx

DB Engine :: Event Tracing For Windows Failed To Send Event

Oct 25, 2011

My SQL Server 2005 SP4 on Windows 2008 R2 is flooded with the below errors:-

Date  10/25/2011 10:55:46 AM
Log  SQL Server (Current - 10/25/2011 10:55:00 AM)
Source  spid
Message
Event Tracing for Windows failed to send an event. Send failures with the same error code may not be reported in the future. Error ID: 0, Event class ID: 54, Cause: (null).

Is there a way I can trace it how it is coming? When I check input buffer for these ids, it looks like it is tracing everything. All the general application DMLs are coming in these spids.

WMI Event Watcher Task Continual Firing Event When Not Triggered

Apr 8, 2008

I have been testing with the WMI Event Watcher Task, so that I can identify a change to a file.
The WQL is thus:

SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent within 30
WHERE targetinstance isa 'CIM_DataFile'
AND targetinstance.name = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\AdventureWorks.bak'

This polls every 30 secs and in the SSIS Event (ActionAtEvent in the WMI Task is set to fire the SSIS Event) I have a simple script task that runs a message box).

My understanding is that the event polls every 30 s and if there is a change on the AdventureWorks.bak file then the event is triggered and the script task will run producing the message.
However, when I run the package the message is occurring every 30s, meaning the event is continually firing even though there has been NO change to the AdventureWorks.bak file.

Am I correct in my understanding of how this should work and if so why is the event firing when it should not ?

Resize LDF File

Jul 17, 2007

I have a sql 2005 system and have a very large 25gb ldf file and a 200mb database.
Someone has set the initial size at 25gb so shrinking the file will not help.
I need to remove/add the file to gain space on the drive.

SQL 2000 you could just detach the DB and rename the ldf file and attach the db back and you are done. With 2005 you cannot do that.

SQL Mobile 2005 Resize Column

Jun 12, 2007

I am trying to resize a COLUMN. Can I do this with the ALTER TABLE MODIFY command? I am getting the following error message when I try the "alter table [admin] modify [runFileTypes] NVARCHAR(250)" command.

" [ 1,21,modify ]"

command = ssceconn.CreateCommand()

command.CommandText = "alter table [admin] modify [runFileTypes] NVARCHAR(250)"

command.ExecuteNonQuery()

The only other option I can think of is to rename the old field, add a new field, copy the value of the old field to the new field, and delete the old field. I have some of the code below, but I am not sure how to copy the contents of the old field to the new field.

command = ssceconn.CreateCommand()

command.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE myTable RENAME COLUMN [oldField] TO [newField]"

command.ExecuteNonQuery()

command.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE myTable ADD COLUMN [oldField] varchar(500)"

command.ExecuteNonQuery()

command.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE myTable DROP [newField]"

command.ExecuteNonQuery()

SQLNCLI Error After Column Resize On Linked Server

Apr 8, 2008

I am linking to another SQL Server database to extract data into my own system. Following an increase in size on one of the columns in a table I am extracting, I am getting the following error:

'OLE DB provider 'SQLNCLI' for linked server 'gsc-rpt.svr.bankone.net' returned data that does not match expected data length for column '[gsc-rpt.svr.bankone.net].[Peregrine].[dbo].[scProblem].short_description'. The (maximum) expected data length is 100, while the returned data length is 148'

The column short_description has been increased from 100 to 1024. Writing a simple query, SELECT (max(len(short_description)) FROM dbo.Peregrine_Problem will generate the error, but if I embed the same SQL into an Excel VBA macro and connect to the server, it happily returns the result 1024. Our Access databases also link to the table on the remote server and handle the increased column size properly.

I have done everything I can think of, including deleting the linked server within SQL Server MS, and recreating it, but I can't override the setting of 100.

Any ideas?

EVENT ID 18456 STATE: 16 Login Failed For User 'DOMAIN/user'. [CLIENT: &&<local Machine&&>] Every Minute In Event Log.

Oct 22, 2007

We recently upgraded to SQL 2005 from SQL 2000. We have most of our issues ironed out however about every 1 minute there is a message in the Application Event log and the SQL log that states:

EVENT ID 18456 Login Failed for the users DOMAIN/ACCOUNT [CLIENT: <local machine>]

This is a state 16 message which I thought meant that the account does not have access to the default database. The account is actually the account that the SQL services run under.

Any ideas? We can't seem to figure this one out. We actually upgraded to 2005 from 2000 and had an error appear after every reboot that prevented the SQL Agent from running(This application has failed to start because GAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.) We did a full uninstall of SQL and reinstalled fresh and restored the databases from .bak files and that is when the EVENT ID 18546 started occuring every minute.

We don't have any SQL heavy hitters here so please be detailed with any possible solutions. That you very much for any help you can provide!

Window Authentication Log In

Apr 29, 2005

 made my first web application using vb script. I am trying to use window authentication for my web page and try to give all permission based on window domain user account. Here is the connecting string I was using to connect to the sql server and it was working fine.

Protected Const sql_connection_string As String = _
    "workstation id= DATA-02;" & _
"packet size=4096;" & _
"user id=ASP;" & _
"password=ASP;" & _
"data source=ARENS-DATA-01;" & _
"persist security info=True;" & _
"initial catalog=SupplierTrack;"

I made couple of changes so it run on based on window domain user.
1) my server is set on window and sql server
2)  Web.config file – I set Authentication mode = “ Windowâ€?
3) I also added under set  <authorization>
    <deny users="?" />
</authorization>

4) change the connecting string to : ( Added "Integrated Security=True;"  and removed line for user and password)

Protected Const sql_connection_string As String = _
    "workstation id= DATA-02;" & _
"packet size=4096;" & _
"Integrated Security=True;" & _
"data source=ARENS-DATA-01;" & _
"persist security info=True;" & _
"initial catalog=SupplierTrack;"

5) run the application and now I am getting error said “Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I was expecting window pop up log in to enter domain  user and password and then verity the user and password against sql server  and the take it from there. Where I made mistake. Need help.
