I have got sql server developer 2014 64 bit, but i cannot attach the adventure works 2014 or 2012, keeps giving me errors. so is their an exe file or another way to install this to the database.

I was studying the Adventure Works database because I read it contains good examples of best practices.
It has an ID column for each table that is auto-incrementing Primary Key. There is also a row guid which seems redundant since the ID PKs are identity columns that increment automatically and should be unique in a given table.
What is the purpose of the row guid being used in conjunction with the ID which should be unique in a given table?
The Data Mining Tutorial accompanying the June CTP includes mention of a table DimProspect. Despite the csv file existing in the Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsSamplesAdventureWorks Data Warehouse path containing the data for the table, the instawdwdb script doesn't include any reference. Can someone supply me with the necessary script for this table?

I'm new to the whole DB thing so I wanted to start off easy and download SQL Express. That part worked fine so I tried to install the Adventure Works DB to get some practice using the SQL commands. The problem is every time I click on a table in Adventure Works and choose Open Table I get a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio box that pops up. Hello Everyone,
I am very new to SQL and just completed an install of SQL 2005 Express. After install, I downloaded the Adventure Works database and attempted to attach through both the Object Browser (right-click 'Databases'--->'Attach') and by running the script that is located on the SQL download page where I got the Adventure Works db.
Here's the error that I get:
"Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 8, object ID 1, Index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes."
I have attempted to go through the help files, but unfortunately the above message is too cryptic for me and I have no idea what it's telling me.
Can someone help?

I can see its database from Management studio but I need to know its solution file to locate it in Business intelligence studio. Please could anyone here give me some idea about that. I'm running Windows Xp Pro With SQL 2005 Dev edition with Adventure Works sample db installed. I am the local administrator on my desktop, the services are up and running and I specified local connections only since this is the DEV edition of SQL05.
When I try either one of these connection strings: Data source=(SQLDEV05); initial catalog=AdventureWorks or Data source=(local); initial catalog=AdventureWorks.

I am trying to delete tables from data where the ModifiedDates older than 9 years in AdventureWorks2012 database . I get console notified that foreign keys are dropped but the delete statement is throwing errors. We have a curious situation on a SQL 2014 DB, with Trustworthy set to OFF. There is a job that runs a data export to a file via a CLR. The assembly as PERMISSION_SET = EXTERNAL_ACCESS, however there is no Asymmetric key for the assembly. Therefore what I trying to work out is why this is NOT failing. Some further information on this specific database that may or may not be relevant is:
1. It was upgraded a few weeks ago (Backup/Restore) from a SQL 2012 - SQL 2014 server
2. It as a Compatibility Level = 110 (2012)
3. The Previous 2012 database DID have Trustworthy ON
4. The CLR are actually being run against a snapshot of the database (Actually I think this one is a red herring. The SP is getting data from a table in the snapshot, but the CLR used it the one from the main DB)

My goal was to use ~20 cores Enterprise license on active server.
I want to do something with error checking in my company. For this we have a selection of different tables and the data needs to meet various validation rules else it is classed as an error.
To deal with this I'm currently thinking of this approach:
1. Create a view pulling all of the various data together from the multiple tables.
2. Create an empty 'errors' data table.
3. Create an Excel file with a button to call a Check for Errors Script
Then in the the script:
1. Clear the 'errors' data table
2. Call multiple scripts, each of which uses the new view, applies the checks for that specific error and writes any erroring data into the 'errors' data table (along with a text string with the unique error code for filtering / sorting purposes).
3. After calling all the scripts, the table can be refreshed in excel when when used with a pivot table can show the various errors, and let us drill down into all the data so we can fix them.
Also.. Ideally, I'd like some way to write comments in an excel column for each entry and error code and be able to write that back into a comment table.

I am having trouble installing the sample Adventure database. I went to the following location:

to download AdventureWorksDB.msi. Once I save that to my local machine I run the install and it completes with no errors. Unfortunately, I can't see any of the data in SQL Server Management Studio Express. I'm new to SQL Server Express so maybe its me, but I get the feeling that it was never added to the database. I'm still looking for SQLServerExpressSamplesOverview.htm to see if I am missing a step but I can't find it anywhere.
The install seems to have extracted database files but if I need to run some scripts by hand to create the database I don't know which order to run them in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:

Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.

I use the code below for updating data from a AS400 Liked server. I dont understend how the WHERE NOT EXISTS( sections work however usualy they do, in this case it does not andt I can't seem to find out why.

Ok, I'm doing a football database for fixtures and stuff. The problem I am having is that in a fixture, there is both a home, and an away team. The tables as a result are something like this:

It's not exactly like that, but you get the point. The question is, can I do a fixture query which results in one record per fixture, showing both teams details. The first in a hometeam field and the second in an away team field.
Fixture contains the details about the fixture like date and fixture id and has it been played
Team contains team info like team id, name, associated graphic
TeamFixture is the table which links the fixture to it's home and away team.
TeamFixture exists to prevent a many to many type relationship.

I would like to create a table called product. My objective is to get list of packages available for each product in data grid view column while selecting each product. Each product may have different packages type (eg:- Nos, CTN, OTR etc). I did a sp_detach_db of a database, then deleted the log file because it was too big. Now, when I try to sp_attach_db, or even sp_attach_single_file_db, it will not re-create the db.
When I tried to attach a database from Enterprise manager, I got "error 3624, location: scanrid.cpp:321 Expression: m_len != 0 spid 51 proseccid 436......" The files are all there, but it seems there are problems of activating files, or the files are crashed. Any one got idea? Actually, we just need one table in that database. Is there any way to save a table from mdf file or ndf file? Or repair files?

I've created a database inside my ASP.net project, the database is in the App_Data folder as exepcted.I can't run the aspnet_regsql until I have attached it using SQL Server Management Studio, but when I try to attach the database it doesn't let me navigate through my folders properly. The database is in C:UsersWardieDocumentsFirstProjectApp_Data but SQL SMS only lets me navigate to the folder C:UsersWardie and no further for some reason, meaning I can't attach the database and can't use the aspnet_regsql service to create the membership tables.Does anyone know how to fix this?
