DB Design :: Create Stored Procedure For Alternative Saturdays
Aug 12, 2015
I want to create a stored procedure for displaying working Saturdays. For example... last working Saturday 08/08/2015 (dd/mm/yyyy) is working day, I want to get next working Saturday as 22/08/2015 (dd/mm/yyyy). Likewise, I want to show for particular year

Hi,I'm trying to create a stored procedure that checks to see whether the parameters are NULL. If they are NOT NULL, then the parameter should be used in the WHERE clause of the SELECT statement otherwise all records should be returned.sample code: SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetProjectInfo]
(@ProjectTitle varchar(300), @ProjectManagerID int, @DeptCode varchar(20), @ProjID varchar(50),
@DateRequested datetime, @DueDate datetime, @ProjectStatusID int)
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
IF @ProjectTitle IS NOT NULL AND @ProjectManagerID IS NULL AND @DeptCode IS NULL AND @ProjID IS NULL AND @DateRequested IS NULL AND @DueDate IS NULL AND @ProjectStatusID IS NULL
SELECT ProjID, ProjectTitle, ProjectDetails, ProjectManagerID, RequestedBy, DateRequested, DueDate, ProjectStatusID
FROM dbo.tbl_Project
WHERE ProjectTitle = @ProjectTitle;
ELSE IF @ProjectTitle IS NOT NULL AND @ProjectManagerID IS NOT NULL AND @DeptCode IS NULL AND @ProjID IS NULL AND @DateRequested IS NULL AND @DueDate IS NULL AND @ProjectStatusID IS NULL
SELECT ProjID, ProjectTitle, ProjectDetails, ProjectManagerID, RequestedBy, DateRequested, DueDate, ProjectStatusID
FROM dbo.tbl_Project
WHERE ProjectTitle = @ProjectTitle AND ProjectManagerID = @ProjectManagerID;
ELSE
SELECT ProjID, ProjectTitle, ProjectDetails, ProjectManagerID, RequestedBy, DateRequested, DueDate, ProjectStatusID
FROM dbo.tbl_Project; I could do this using IF-ELSE but that would require a ridiculous amount of conditional statements (basically 1 for each combination of NULLs and NOT NULLs). Is there a way to do this without all the IF-ELSEs? Thanks.

Before I start a small project I am interested in the best way to do it. I work for a college doing management information and generally finding problems with our data. A regular thing I end up with is a set of student ID's which I need to lookup. Through the front end this takes a while as I have to look them up individually and I often need to compare ID's.
What I have thought about making is a system where I can select a set of ID's and search for all of them. I will probably make this through C# pasting the set of id's into a datagridview and providing the results in another one.
The problem I have is I don't know how to send a set of ID's (so I would probably be using where IN (SET OF ID's). I read briefly a while back about passing a type table but am unfamiliar with how to use it. This is sql 2000 server.

Hey all,
I've got a design problem I'm trying to figure out. I'm designing a search function for a table, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to design my stored procedures. The search form allows for 72 different possibilites of returns: 3 booleans that can be combined (1 of each, 2 of 3, or all 3), and 3 dropdown lists that have 2, 3, and 4 options respectively that also can be an "any" (no preference) value.
Should I write a stored procedure to handle each of this situations (and the corresponding methods in the DAL and BLL providers)? Or would it be easier to use a generic GetItem procedure and use rules in the business layer to sort it all out (which I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing, much less how to display in a gridview from said data)?
Any suggestions, articles, or ideas that'll help get me going on the right path would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have the following design as my starting point.
4 sql tables.
I will be doing a variety of searches against these 4 tables (525 different searches to be exact).
Which search is performed is based on table requested and the search criteria fields passed. One of the four tables will always be searched and one of the other three as well.
I have a driver stored procedure that determines which of the 3 tables to read and calls separate subordinate stored procedures for the table selected. Then it calls a stored procedure to select from the table that is always read.
I am building temporary tables to hold the results from the two tables read in each pass. Then the driver will return the results to the client.
My question is this, is there a more elegant way to determine which one of my 525 queries need to be executed than a very ugly large if/then/else, checking all of the possible combinations of parameters passed in each subordinate stored procedure?
Is there some way to create dynamic sql select statements based on the parameters passed to the subordinate stored procedures that have actual values (not null)?
Any insight would be a big help.

Hi, all.
I have a question about how you would design this. I have to return a list of projects in a stored procedure with a statement like this:
SELECT ProjectID, ProjectName FROM PROJECTS;
This populates a DropDownList with all possible projects. When the user selects one, I need to find out more information about that project, like this:
SELECT a.ProjectID, a.ProjectName, b.OtherStuff FROM PROJECTS a INNER JOIN OTHERSTUFF b on a.ProjectID = b.ProjectID;
In the old ASP world, we just filled the ProjectID parameter with NULL if we wanted to return all results, and the stored procedure was set up to dynamically return results based on whether that parameter was NULL or not.
I'm looking for a more elegant way to do this. I can use two stored procedures, but I'm not sure what to name them. Obviously, I could call one 'SelectProjects' and the other 'SelectProject', but that just doesn't seem elegant enough. Anyone have any other ideas?

I have a problem where a certain stored procedure disappears occasionally and I need to find out which script deletes it. I found this piece of code which gives the events related to the deletion of this stored procedure.
DECLARE @path NVARCHAR(260);
SELECT
@path = REVERSE(SUBSTRING(REVERSE([path]),
CHARINDEX(CHAR(92), REVERSE([path])), 260)) + N'log.trc'
FROM sys.traces
WHERE is_default = 1;
[code]...
Is there a way that I can find which stored procedure or event dropped this stored procedure?

Say i had a system table in that table i had dbo.user then format (dd,mm,yyyy) after that i had dbo.user_backup_ 10_12_2007,dbo.user_backup_ 10_13_2007,dbo.user_backup_ 10_14_2007,dbo.user_backup_ 10_15_2007,dbo.user_backup_ 10_16_2007
If i use the SQL command
SELECT * FROM paychexdb.dbo.sysobjects
WHERE name like 'users_backup_%' AND xtype = 'U'
AND name not in( SELECT Top 3 name FROM paychexdb.dbo.sysobjects
WHERE name like 'users_backup_%' AND xtype = 'U'
ORDER BY Name DESC)
results would be 10_12_2007,10_13_2007.
So i want to put those results in a backup file and keep top 3 which is 10_14,10_15,10_16. I want to create a store procedure that i can execute and do that for all my tables. this stored proc (sp) should first backup the table if it doesn't exist and then delete all but the most recent 3

Is it possible to drop and then create a view from a stored procedure? Like the way you can drop and create a temp table.
I want to create a view of the fields in a table something like: But I cannot include the field names, they may be changed by an admin user.
If exists view 'custom_fields"
drop view 'custom_fields'
Create view custom_fields
Select * From tblCustomFields
And make this a view in the db named custom_fields.
And I want to call it from a button click in my UI.

Hi
Let me start by saying that SQL is
not my strong suit so please bear with me.
Here's my situation
I'm building a property portfolio system with db structure as follows
tblProperty (The master table - linked 1 to many via propertyID)
tblValuations (columns valuationID, propertyID, currentValue, valuationDate)
For each property in tblProperty the valuations table can hold multiple valuation entries.
I need to have a summary that shows the number of properties a user has
listed and crucially I need to be able to find the latest
valuation for each property & add them together to retrieve the
total value of a users portfolio
I'm totally stumped with this so any help/advice would be gratefully received

When I use comands insert and update with VB5 and ODBC, one temporary stored procedure is created in database tempdb to each command executed.
These stored procedures are deleted only when the connection is closed.
My program use comands insert and update inside a loop, and a lot of temporary stored procedure are generated and full the database tempdb. When it occur, others systems are afecteds.
My questions:
Why it occur ?
Wich have created this stored procedure ?
How to avoid it occur ?
The versions are:
SQL Server 6.5
Visual Basic 5.0
SQL Server ODBC Driver 2.65.0240

hi,
Im am wandering if it is possible to create two views in two different tables from within the same stored proc:ex
create proc myProc
as
use [myDb1]
go
create view myV1
as
select * from mytable
go
use [myDb2]
go
create view myV2
as
select * from mytable
go
go
---
of course the go's are not allowed in a sproc, the create statement must be the first of a query batch and a vew can not have the databaase name preapended like when creating a table plus one can not use the "use" word in a proc, I tried using exec to bypass the "first statement in a batch" and go restrictions but have not been able to overcome the "use [myDb]" restriction, is there a way to solve this problem?
thank you
