View 17 RepliesHi all,
I am new to SQL 2005 and I am trying to drop a user from a database called TESTDB. When I try to delete the user I get the following error message:
User,group or roll 'test' already exists in the database (Microsoft SQL Server,Error :15023)
How can I remove the user from the database in MSSQL2005 server
Please help me
Thank you,
Chamith
We are running SQL server 2003 with SP3. I'm trying to
shrink a data files with the emptyfile option so I can
eventually remove the file using the alter database
command. However, I get the following error message when I
run the alter database command:
Error: the file PRADATA4 cannot be removed because it is
not empty.
The file that I'm trying to remove still has 62 extents on it.
I looked MS Knowledge base 254253 and 279511 on this problem but they say it is corrected by SQL server 7.0 with service pack 3.
commands that I'm running are as follows:
1) USE PRA
DBCC TRACEON(8901)
DBCC SHRINKFILE ('PRADATA4', EMPTYFILE)
DBCC TRACEOFF(8901)
2) USE PRA
GO
ALTERDATABASE PRA
REMOVE FILE PRADATA4
GO
Can anyone help?
Thanks
One of the configuration options that can be set for the server is called "user options". User options contains sub-options such as ansi_warnings, ansi_padding, ansi_nulls, arithabort, etc..
Using T-SQL, how are these set?
sp_configure 'user options', @configvalue = 'value'
go
reconfigue with override
go
i.e. Are the individual option values summed. Say I wanted to set ansi_warnings (whose value is 8) and ansi_nulls (whose value is 32) on and all other user options off. Then is my @configvalue 40?
Sorry, but I don't feel BOL is clear on how to set these options.
TIA Gary
I involved in redesign a database for hotel review listing. My current hotel datatable below
Hotel
ID
HotelName
Description
Address
TotalRating
If I would like to extend the review feature in details based on each user comments for example
Overall 7
Rooms 6
Services 7
Food 8
Could anyone guide me how could I modify the table or add new table that allow me to do so.
Thank you
I have one database which is multi tenant, every table has tenant id and every tenant is mapped with separate file group. Now can I achieve below :?
1. Can I take the backup of only one tenant and restored in separate database?
2. Can I takeout the data of one tenant quickly?
3. Can I undo the data of a particular tenant with 2 days older data without disturbing the other tenant ?
My question takes two parts; firstly, is the new table that I'm proposing going to handle the business logic I describe below, and secondly, if I put the new table in, how in hell do I use it?
Right; present schema attached.
The idea, which I hope is fairly clear from the schema, is that you send it a buch of parameters about the event, admission date, etc, and it will return all tickets matching those parameters. An example stored proc for this is below:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[getSingleTicketsByParameters]
@eventIdINT,
@standIdINT,
@admissionDateIdINT,
@bookingDateIdINT,
@concessionIdINT,
@bookingMinQuantityIdINT,
@bookingMaxQuantityIdINT,
@membershipIdINT

So. It's all about to get horribly, horribly complex (well, it is to me) so take a deep breath.
Tickets are subject to quotas. However, quotas are subject to... well, at the moment they can be based on event, stand, admission date, concession, or any combination of these. They can also be based on an individual ticket. All quotas, however, are annual; they only apply to ticket purchases in the same year. For example:
- you can't buy more than 4 tickets for date A, in stand B at event C, per year.
- you can't buy more than 2 tickets for stand D per year.
- you can't buy more than 4 of ticket number 123.
Now, I'm thinking that all I need to manage this is one table, and it's going to look a little like this:
tblQuotas
id INT PK
ticket_id INT FK
event_id INT FK
stand_id INT FK
admission_date_id INT FK
quota INT
So, if I put a record in there with an event, stand and admission date - and a quota - then I've met the first business rule that I described above. If I put in a record with just a stand id and a quota, then I've met the second sort. If I put in one with just a ticket id and a quota, then I've met the third.
Now we return to that big SQL statement above. The one that says "get me all eligible tickets that match these parameters". And it's got to get a lot bigger because I now need to not only join in tblQuotas, to see if any quotas apply to the ticket I've chosen (or to the event, stand, etc that make it up), but I've also got to join in tblBasket, and tblOrders, and tblUsers, to find out how much of any particular quota they've already used up in previous orders. Although that's only orders placed in the current year, mind. And of course I also now haveto pass the users ID in as a parameter so I can look up their order history.
Your head's hurting too, right?
So... this is where I've got to:
SELECT SUM(ticket_quantity) FROM [tblBasket]
INNER JOIN [tblTickets] ON [tblBasket].[ticket_id] = [tblTickets].[id]
INNER JOIN [tblOrders] ON [tblBasket].[order_id] = [tblOrders].[id]
WHERE
[tblTickets].[stand_id] = @standId
AND [tblOrders].[user_id] = @userId
AND ([tblOrders].[order_date] BETWEEN '2006/01/01' AND '2006/12/31')
What I want to do is incorporate that into the big SQL query up top, in such a way to make it only return tickets that not only match the ticket parameters but that also aren't linked to stands, admission dates or anything else, that the user has reached their quota on.
Oh, and I'm in a bit of a hurry so do try and get a move on won't you? ;)
But seriously - how do I put those two SQL querys together? Do I need one for each paramater that might have a quota attached, or is there a quicker way? All suggestions and advice, up to and including "get an easier job, dude", received gratefully :)

I need to backup a single DB with "Copy-only Backup" option on. I Want to place the backup on a different location, we have a media set which is used for daily backups. I want this backup placed on a different
server 192.168.250.xxx

I have added this location to "back up to" The old one is still there. I I then hit OK th backup hangs for 2-3 minutes and gives me an error which points to the old media set. SO I want to create a new media set and call it "onlyonce" but what I am not sure about is what this Means "back up to a new media set and erase all existing backup sets" Does that mean all old backups will be deleted?

In order to take automated backup of all user databases below is the query. This query will eliminate use of manual backups for user databases, in order to fully automate this just create a SQL Agent job and write this query in the job and forget about taking any manual DB backups.
DECLARE @name VARCHAR(50) -- database name
DECLARE @path VARCHAR(256) -- path for backup files
DECLARE @fileName VARCHAR(256) -- filename for backup
DECLARE @fileDate VARCHAR(20) -- used for file name

Hello
I have an MSSQL server where I would like to create a couple of databases, create one user pr. DB, and give them db_owner permissions.
Giving a user db_owner permissions allows the user to make a backup of the database, which is a good thing and I would like it to stay that way.
My problem is that I don't know how to restrict the user from saving the backup to any directory or filename that he wants to.
He can not get out of the directories that the user MSSQL is running under has access to. But he can overwrite another users backupfile or placing the file in the MSSQL-programfolder.
The users is using SQL Server authentication.
Can I restrict the backup procedure to save to only one file or in one directory?
What is the best practice regarding backup if you give your users db_owner permissions?
Hi!
I have a problem with databases that are left in single user mode after transaction log backup.
I have a database maintenance plan job that backs up the transaction log and checks data and index linkage every hour.
Sometimes the job fails and when I look in the report file it says that it has tred to put the database in single user mode and failed because the database is in use and then in the next step it says that it cannot perform the operation because there already is a user in the database.
Why is the database put in single user mode?
What can I do to avoid finding my databases in single user mode?
Below is a part of the report file:

Hello.
I am trying to perform a backup and restore of a user's default database. the user- "myuser", was created with a default database. I have backed the user database and tried to restore it in different ways and I always get the same error when trying to connect with the user after restore:
"Cannot open user default database.Login failed (error 4064)".
It happens if I don't delete the user before restoring the database.
If I try to delete the user before restore and create it afterwards, when I try to set the default user database to the same database I get the error:
"user, group or role 'myuser' already exist in the database"
And when I try to delete the user from the restored database (in order to recreate it) I cannot, because the user's schema is connected to objects in the database.
Can anyone help?... How do I restore??
Thanx,
Nili.
Hello ,

We have a user with read,write and execute permissions.
But this user with is used by a windows application,Is able to backup on the Database server(On C: drive).
How can I prevent it to backup on the server.
vendor did a full backup for his database and put some folder not being backed up by TSM, he is the owner of the database, and delete his backup later. The backup is not copy only, all the differential and log backups taken are based on his FULL backup. so they cannot be restored.
QUESTION: To prevent this happen in the future, what is the normal practices? or any way to prevent db_owner to do the ad-hoc full backup? I am thinking of using DENY backup database, or write a policy claiming no responsibility if vendor make it happen again.
Hi everyone In my SqlServer Management Studio Express, on start up it shows the server type option, but greyed.So that value is fixed to database engine. ( I'm trying to work on an SqlServer Compact Edition database through the SSMStudiothat's why I'm trying to get this to change.)Besides, after I connect i go to the Object Explorer, expand the server node, and go to Replication.When i expand replication, i get the "Local Subscription" option, but nothng for Publication.( I want to work on Merge Replication, that's why I desparately need Publication to work)Am i missing something here? I did not install SqlServer separately, I only have what comes bundled with the Visual Studio 2005 Setup.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a database with hundreds of tables, each with "CreatedByLoginId" and "ModifiedByLoginId" FK columns back to the Login table. This is all fine and well, but 500+ tables all link back to Login table every time a record is inserted or updated.
For strictly performance reasons, what do you think of us REMOVING the FK constraints on all of our tables? While this does mean that a GUID that is not a valid LoginId could potentially be put in a table, I'm not too worried about it because users don't have direct access to the database.
I have a backup that runs every evening. I set the backup to expire in 7 days time and have it appended to an existing backup set.
When I look at the contents of the backup set I can still see backups which have expired and show the expired date in the past.
e.g. It is 23/11/2007 today and I view my backup set and can still see backups showing an expiry date of 22/11/2007.
I need to remove the expired backups from the set as I do not want the backup set file growing too large in size and therefore a pain to transfer off of the server to another location.
I tried to find somewhere I can remove expired backups from within Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express but am unable to locate anywhere to do this. I know you can view the contents of a backup set by selecting the database > Tasks > Backup and then Clicking 'Contents' button.
I would appreciate any help with this.
Thanks

Why is that some of the databases has their "Transaction Log" & "File and Filegroup" options in Backup greyed out? I was trying to create a backup job using the sql enterprise backup wizard. However, the database that is the backend of our erp application has its "Transaction Log" and "File and Filegroup" option greyed out.
Any idea why?

I just installed Reporting Services (2005) in a "distributed installation" mode. That is, I have sql server 2005 on a separate server. I installed the Report Server on its own server where I already had IIS running.
That all seemed to go well and I didn't get any errors or anything. After the install process was done, I ran the RS Configuration Manager tool. Since "Install but do not configure" option was automatically selected for me, I started working through all the pages from top to bottom. Again everything worked, and I have green checkboxes next to all of the nodes in the left except...
When I get to the Encryption Keys page, it has a blue exclamation icon next to its icon in the left pane. On the page itself, the Backup and Change buttons are disabled, greyed out.
And, the next item down, Initialization, is shown with a greyed out "x" icon. It's not red, but greyed out.
So, I'm not sure what this all means, but I'm guess it means that I don't have RS set up yet...! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
