DB Engine :: In-Memory OLTP Use With Existing Tables / Index / Procedures
Nov 10, 2015
1. I need to make use of in memory engine for my pr-existed develop procedures ,tables ,index. do I need and code changes for application and how to store tables /indexes in OLTP memory
Assume table index may have primary key index as well.
2. If table with one primary index and 2 foreign constraints, 3 non clusters indexed. which one able o load to memory area and how t do that.
3. In memory is lock free zone. usually locks will happpen in RDMS context . how this works without locks.

Is there a method of forcing existing tables into the in-memory filegroup so the table data can benefit from in-memory processing.

In SQL Server 2014, how big for the block size is better for performance? 64 KB? 4 KB?
For normal database files, best practise is 64 KB disk block size. Not sure if it is same for memory-optimized filegroup.

Just wonder if system base tables always use clustered index? I am using SQL Server 2005 and find sys.sysidxstats base table is using heap, not clustered index. Why?

We had one of the major issues where one of the table on a heavily used OLTP database seems to have updated the records which were not expected.
Scenario:
We got around more than 12K contracts updated to status expired even though the expiry date is not set to be so:
for E.G : Below table has a column contract status which overnight seems to have updated the values to expired.
Even though the start and expiry date does not follow the logic for above.
We had the above working for past 3 years via a SP scheduled via SQL agent Job which Expire active contracts whose expiration date is less than today's 12:00AM.There has been no change in SP.
How can i track how it happened and what caused it?

We are planning to upgrade. We are using Sql 2008R2 now. Which is the better option migrating to SQL 2012 or migrating to 2014?I am thinking 2014 has memory optimized tables and updatable column stored index. So it is better option.

How many no of records of the tables are called large tables.
We are getting more deadlocks. We are using default isolation. Read & insert statements are blocking each other and causes dead locks.
I am thinking that might be purging will reduce deadlocks.
The table has 15million records. Is this table consider as large table or not in OLTP systems?
In general how many records we need to consider as large table.

So I started a new job recently and have noticed a few strange configurations. Typically I would never mess with min memory per query option and index create memory option configuration because i just haven't seen any need to. My typical thought is that if it isn't broke... They have been modified on every single server in my environment.
From Books Online:
• This option is an advanced option and should be changed only by an experienced database administrator or certified SQL Server technician.
• The index create memory option is self-configuring and usually works without requiring adjustment. However, if you experience difficulties creating indexes, consider increasing the value of this option from its run value.

How to accurately track how much memory was granted to a DBCC checkdb during it's execution?
I'd like to do this without continuously querying dm_exec_query_memory_grants, if at all possible - but if that's the only option.

We have Windows Server 2008R2 installed on VM Server. On that we have three SQL instances running. From few past months we are observing physical memory is going high. Earlier we observed it was at 86-88%, now it is 96-97%.We have 16RAM & 8 CPU cores on VM. what is the best and ideal configuration so that we can rectify the high physical memory issue.

We have a new set up on VM to run an application running 24*7 (migrated from SQL server 2008R2) with below configs:
1. OS- Windows server 2012 Standard 64 bit hosted on Virtual Machine
2. Memory 16 GB and Cores =4 with 2.4GhZ processor
3. SQL server 2012 SP2 , 64 bit Standard edition.
4. Total size of databases as of now 15 GB with biggest being 5 GB.
How should i go around in setting the MAX and MIN server memory settings. I have this set up for many of SQL 2005 and 2008R2 servers, but for 2012 i heard that things has slightly changed.
How should i start analyzing and setting the right value of this MAX and MIN?

I'm working on an ASP.Net project where I want to test code on a localmachine using a local database as a back-end, and then export it tothe production machine where it uses the hosting provider's SQL Serverdatabase on the back-end. Is there a way to export tables from oneSQL Server database to another in such a way that if a table alreadyexists in the destination database, it will be updated to reflect thechanges to the local table, without existing data in the destinationtable being lost? e.g. suppose I change some tables in my localdatabase by adding new fields. Can I "export" these changes to thedestination database so that the new fields will be added to thedestination tables (and filled in with default values), without losingdata in the destination tables? If I run the DTS Import/Export Wizard that comes with SQL Server andchoose "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database" and choosethe tables I want to copy, there is apparently no option *not* to copythe data, and since I don't want to copy the data, that choice doesn'twork. If instead of "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the sourcedatabase", I choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Serverdatabases", then on the following options I can uncheck the "CopyData" box to prevent data being copied. But for the "CreateDestination Objects" choices, I have to uncheck "Drop destinationobjects first" since I don't want to lose the existing data. But whenI uncheck that and try to do the copy, I get collisions between theproperties of the local table and the existing destination table,e.g.:"Table 'wbuser' already has a primary key defined on it."Is there no way to do what I want using the DTS Import/Export Wizard? Can it be done some other way?-Bennett

One server, a part of a 2 node always on cluster, had problems, I had to restart.
I'm getting this error for example now:
Error: 49910, Severity: 10, State: 1. (Params:). The error is printed in terse mode because there was error during formatting. Tracing, ETW, notifications etc are skipped.

SQL Server was unable to run a new system task, either because there is insufficient memory or the number of configured sessions exceeds the maximum allowed in the server. Verify that the server has adequate memory. Use sp_configure with option 'user connections' to check the maximum number of user connections allowed. Use sys.dm_exec_sessions to check the current number of sessions, including user processes.
Now, on the instance I have activated maximum servere memory, my question; Is it possible to adjust this setting without starting the service?
Some parameter for example?
The server itself have enough memory.

If I create a memory table inside a while loop, I expect that every loop the memory table is (newly) created and thus empty.
But when I test this, I see that on the second, third, ... run the inserted data in the memory table is still present and not cleared.
This can be reproduces with the following code:
DECLARE @tbl TABLE
( [id] BIGINT )
DECLARE @tbl2 TABLE
( [value] BIGINT )
INSERT INTO @tbl
VALUES (1), (2)
[Code] ....
/*
Expectation: twice 11 and 12 in @tbl2
Actual result: three times 11 and 12
*/
SELECT *
FROM @tbl2
Is this a wrong assumption or is this a bug in SQL Server? (Tested on: SQL Server 2014 and 2008).

On first Node A: The server has 16 GB of physical RAM.
On second Node B: The server has 10 GB of physical RAM.
Now, this being Active Active, Node A can be clustered on failure onto Node B..Now reporting server is configured under these two nodes, with defined MAX and MIN server memory of 12 as MAX and 0 is min IN GB.Now with this setting on SQL whenever the cluster moves, such config make OS goes low on node for 10 GB.I am only left with option of switching this MAX and MIN to a default setting or is there any other alternative such as script which can change this setting accordingly when cluster moves to respective server.

As noted on the msdn the ANSI_NULLS for a stored procedure are set at time off creation (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa259229(SQL.80).aspx).
Using:
- SQL server 2000
My question is; How do i get the details of a sp and display the ANSI_NULLS setting for it.
("select * from information_schema.routines" doesnt shows this information)
Is this possible in SQL 2000 (or 2005)?
