I am trying to set up log shipping in a clustered server environment. I am pretty confused about the location of the shared folder to be created to put backup created by  log shipping job. Which drive should I use either local or clustered shared drive to store the backups in primary server and  to copy the same in secondary Server?

View 7 Replies View Related I got this error message during SQL Server Express install with no error code on Server 2003 SP1. I'm installing on an older development machine and although I do have a very large log file somewhere I wanted to post before I even dug into it. I noticed in IIS under my Webs that the MSSQLExpress webs were there at first but when I clicked on them to get any info or Properties... they dissapeared. So they were almost installed but they no longer exist. Also I do not have a SQL Service Manager icon down near the clock.
I almost took a step to fix this. After reading a few posts about similar problems I thought maybe this happened because the Default Web Sites IP # was not set to (All Unassigned). I was going to try a repair install from Add/Remove Programs but the temporary setup files are already gone. I really dont want to uninstall all 5 SQL components from Add/Remove Programs and start from scratch.
As good security practice we usually remove the Default Web or as in this development servers case we changed the IP from (All Unassigned) to an IP that is only accessible from certain machines on the internal network. I obviously should have read more pre setup guides. Anyway how can I fix this without reinstalling everything?
We are going to use SQL Sever change tracking. The problem is that some of our tables, which are to be tracked, have no primary keys. There are only unique clustered indexes. The question is what is the best way to turn on change tracking for these tables in our circumstances.

BOL says to create the Mirror/Primary I need to use the Transact-SQL commands. But sp_add_log_shipping_primary_database checks to make sure the status of the database is "Online". So when I run sp_add_log_shipping_primary_database to add the mirror db as a Primary I get the following error:

I'm, using my script to many location to create folder to save output files and if the folder is removed/not present it can create it without any noise. But the problem is, while I use the same sort of script to check if a folder is present in the sharedpath it will not create it to copy all bkp files from local to remote path works good, but if you delete the folder or rename the exisitng folder and if the below script tries to create the folder it created as "fILE", very interesting. Per IT team they have given SQL Server account the full rights to create/delete/alter folder/files.
Do I need to use seperate script or way to create / alter folders in the sharepath?

I have a two node failover cluster(Active/Passive). I am planning on installing the Report Server database on the failover instance.

I am setting up a two active instances of MS SQL Server on a clustered box. In the past I have set up using the nomenclature SQLCLUSTERNAMEINSTANCE-NAME such as SQLCLUS1INST1 and SQLCLUS2INST2.
But, this time the client will like it installed such as SQLCLUS1INST1 and SQLCLUS1INST2. I did not think this is possible --- That is I assumed that cluster resource names have to be unique. But, nevertheless I have tried to do so for the last few days, but no luck.
Can someone please let me know if it is indeed possible to have two separate instances in a single cluster.
BTW, I know this is quite possible with non-clustered instances --- where the SQLSERV1INST1 refers to an actual server name, and not a resource name.

have a question about logshipping and full database backup: during a full database backup the log will be backed up too and emptied. If I run a full backup on databases which is setup for logshipping - does it mean I will loose data on the standby side ?

I am new to Forum. So not sure if i am posting my problem under the right topic.
We have a sql server 2005 enterprise edition 4 way cluster on windows 2003 advance server.
I am logshipping these database to a different server at a different location.
My logshipping went fine until one the cluster server failed and the server instance failed over to another node.
The backup that happened around that time got copied over to the secondary by the copy job.
The log file that got copied to the secondary server tried restoring and i think it failed int he middle of restoring it.
(You would think that the sql would knoe if the backup is in complete and will move on to the next file. Not sure what happened there.)
There is no indication of the *.TUF file in the directory where i have the log files.
I tried restoring it manually and i got the following error
Msg 4319, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
A previous restore operation was interrupted and did not complete processing on file 'sessionlog1'. Either restore the backup set that was interrupted or restart the restore sequence.

RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.
I looked in the msdb..log_shipping_secondary_databases and looked for the last file that it restored and tried restoring it again with the following restore command by removing and adding some of the keywords that you see after the "WITH" clause.
MSFT do not recommand to use continne_after_error unless its absolutley necessary. I stilll get the above error.

SQL server 20005 SP2 is install in my WIN XP machine. I implement a SSRS report and try to deliver the report to a share folder in window 2000 server.
I create and set permissions on a shared folder as per the information in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345228.aspx. The account that I use in subscription is local admin account in the target machine.
I have try path \<servername>c$XXX and \<servername>XXX. Both is not ok.

If I try to deliver same report to a share folder in WIN XP in the same way. It is ok.
I get the following error when trying to execute a call to a procedure located on a linked server. My source server is within a clustered environment.
"Could not relay results of procedure % from remote server %."
Straight select T-SQL calls work fine.

The Problem is now we need to Replicate a Database from one Virtual SQL Sever to the other.
The Second one (clusterd environment)is stroing their database localy while the First One (clustered environment)is storing database in a shared storage.
Note that Both Server are used for sperate purpose , but we now need to set replication on the Other Clustered Setup for Reporting Purpose.
Will it work if we configure replication from One SQL Server Clustered Setup to the Other Clstered Setup.
If yes, then please let me know how it can be done ?

Yesterday, our server 'failed over' to the passive node in our clustered environment. We are running Windows NT, with MSSQL 7.0. What triggered the fail over, according to the logs, was an error in tempdb. Basically, the error said that tempdb could not be expanded, (could not create any more space for tempdb).
The drive that tempdb database is located on has more than enough room. The tempdb is set at 300M, and can grow to over 700M. The drive that tempdb is on
has over 19Gig of space on it.
One other important piece of information is that the drive where our production database is on and the tempdb is quite full. The 19 gig that is left over represents only about 5 percent of the disk.
Can anyone shed some light on why the sql server would have failed over when trying to expand tempdb, when there was sufficient resources to handle that growth? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Could this be another error? When we restarted the server (both nodes and the disk array) the production database came back as suspect. Most of the stuff in BOL points to the space issue. The production database is around 37 gig.
Any help would be appreaciated

View 0 Replies View RelatedI am running into an issue trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 64-bit. It hangs at the same point: Removing backup files. I then get a message that, "The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The cluster resource cannot be moved to another group because other resources are dependent on it." The instance that I am trying to uninstall is in a cluster hosting two other SQL Server installations. I have tried a few combinations when attempting to uninstall: running the cluster group containing the server I am uninstalling on a different cluster node than all the other cluster groups; running them all on the same node. The only one I haven't tried is moving the Cluster Group containing the IP address of the cluster, cluster name, etc to another node while running the other groups on the other node. Has anyone run into this issue? Each of the nodes has been rebooted several times during these attempts and we are using Windows Server 2003 Clustering. Again, the hang happens at the same point every time. The exact error(s) from the even log are as follows:

I am able to send databasemail on my staging servers which are non clustered but databasemail fails on my clustered production servers.
Both production and staging servers sit on the same domain(although the domain controller is sitting on one of the staging servers)
I have set up the account and profile and have double checked that it is pointing to the correct SMTP server and to the same one as the staging servers.
I have also enabled database mail in surface area configuration.
The message gets queued, because i see the 'mail is queued' message.
The databaseMail Process also gets started, but during the actual send process I see

We will be implementing our first SQL cluster in December. Our current plan calls for a shared development/test database server with one physical server, but two SQL Server instances. Our production environment will be a SQL cluster. Is it necessary to create a clustered test environment for testing patches, hot-fixes, etc...?

previously was using windows XP to act as web server and have SQL server reside inside the same machine but having 10 connection limitation from windows xp where only 10 client can connect to the machine. The current setup moves the web server out to windows server 2003 and i believe it solves the 10 concurrent connection limitation but how about the SQL server? is it limited to 10 connection from windows server 2003 also? (Windows XP is my testing server, Windows Server 2003 contains important test data for the whole company) . I tried with concurrent RDA pull for 40 client concurrently with 1 pc having 10 client apps but obtain not really satisfying results. Pulling one table (20Mb) needs 1 to 2 mins through LAN networks but pulling concurrently with 40 clients takes up to 20 - 30 mins.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on my Laptop for use with IIS 7.0; Everything was working fine untill I opened the Report Server Site with WVD 2008, it asked me to Modify the web.config for debugging. After doing that the Report Server Site started showing an error page saying there was a rsInternal error. I tried fixing the Web.config by hand but it dident work, so I tried completly reinstalling the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. It reinstalled perfectly excluding the Report Server. When it came time to install the Report Server; I got the error message.

I am looking for advice with setting up a 2005 environment for development, debugging and testing using a laptop as the development platform and a desktop pc as the database engine both connected via a LAN. The current configuration is that all the full blown Visual Studio / SQL development software is installed on the development laptop and can go wherever the developer goes, and the Express versions are installed on the desktop pc so that the development database has an unbroken connection with the network. This setup worked well in the past for developing applications that use a typical database interface. The applications could be completely developed and tested before it went live on the corporation€™s full blown production SQL server. Now we want to utilize the Reporting Services/SSIS in our development efforts and I would like to know what parts of the development software (Express vs. Full) should be installed on what unit (laptop vs. desktop) to fully develop and test using Reporting Services before we move to production? And anything else, like what services need to be running on what units etc.

We have 4 Servers which have SQL SERVER 2012 and "AlwaysOn" have been enabled on all 4 servers:
Server1,Server2,Server3,Server4
Server1 is the Primary node and thr rest are secondaries. There is a Sync relation between Server1 and Server2 and also there is aSync relation between Server1 and Server3 & Server4.
Is it possible to setup log shipping from Server2 & Server3(secondaries) to two new servers?

We're just in the middle of performing our first release of SSIS packages through various environments.
The way we are set up currently is the developer will check the package(s) and related config files out of source control, develop on their own machine and check everything in again. Then we deploy the packages consecutively to the Dev, Tst and Prd servers.
We are going down the path of using one environment variable for every config file. some packages share config files (e.g. we've only one config file for each database or ftp connection etc.) and some config files are package specific (error log file connections and success/failure e-mail sources etc.).
What we want ideally is a script that we can check into source control that will create the environment variables on a server at deployment. The "set" command at the command line can be used to change the value of an environment variable, or to create a session-specific variable, but not to create environment variables.
So far the only method that we're using is manually typing in the environment variable names via control panel and copying and pasting the paths into the value fields. Given that we're deploying potentially hundreds of config files, it's obvious that this new-fangled GUI point-and-click and copy-and-paste method of deployment is absolutely foolproof and totaly not prone to any error whatsoever.
Please tell me there's a way to create and set environment variables without going through control panel. running a script or something to do it automatically will: Ensure that each environment is set up accurately and identically, eliminating human error. Ensure that when a developer checks out a package to their local drive, although they may have to change the variable values, he can at least create the relevant variables without having to type them in. Enable efficient migration to another new server (for example during Disaster Recovery).
Can anyone point me to some example scripts at all?
