as of now , In the event of Disaster happens on Node 1 i will have to manage JOBS on Node 2 (backups, Maintenance, replication, day-day other Jobs)..Is there a way i can call all jobs to run from a remote server which executes on Active NODE(which ever is active)? so that in the event of disaster happens on node1, when node 2 becomes online and i don't have to do anything with SQL Agent or jobs on Node 2?
I am trying to create a trigger on a table. Let's call it table ABC. Table looks like this:

This trigger works, but it inserts all of the rows every time. My question is how can I get the trigger to just insert the last row updated?
I can't sort by uniqueidentifier in descending as those can be random.

We have a database on a 2005 box, which we need to keep in sync with one on a 2014 box (until we can turn off the one on 2005). The 2005 database is still being updated with changes that must be applied to the 2014 database, given the nature of the data (medical documents) we need to ensure updates are applied to the 2014 database in very near real time (these changes are - for example - statuses, not the documents themselves).
Cunning plan #1, ulgy - not at all a fan of triggers - but use an after update trigger to run a sp on the remote box via a linked server in this format, with a SQL Server login for the linked server with permissions to EXEC the remote proc.

Whether it actually possible to call a proc on a remote box via a trigger and if so what additional hoops need to be jumped through (like I said, it'll run OK called via SSMS)?
We have 3x instances of SQL Server 2012 installed on a single remote server - there's the default MSSQLSERVER instance, then INSTANCE01 and INSTANCE02. I can remotely connect to the default MSSQLSERVER instance through SSMS, but I cannot connect to either of the additional named instances (INSTANCE01 or INSTANCE02).
For example, if I try to connect to "sql.domain.com", I can successfully access the default instance on the remote server. If I try to connect to "sql.domain.comINSTANCE01", I get an error stating
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server".
However - if I try to connect to "sql.domain.comINSTANCE01, 49301" (where 49301 is the TCP Port for the TCP/IP Protocol for this SQL Server instance), I am able to successfully connect.
This leads me to think that there's a communication issue with the SQL Server Browser service running on the remote SQL Server and my workstation.
The following items have been verified:
SQL Server Browser is running on the remote SQL ServerWindows Firewall has been disabled on the SQL ServerTCP Ports 1433, 1434, 1954, and 49301 have been opened up on the remote destination's firewallUDP Port 1434 has been opened up on the remote destination's firewall.
I am working on a project for an SQL job. I am:
1.) Taking a database out of an availability group,
2.) Setting the recovery to simple,
3.) Shrinking the log file,
4.) Setting the recovery mode back to full,
5.) Then backing it up.
I need to restore the file to my secondary server with replace and non recovery mode. I am having trouble performing that call? I have the code to reestablish the database to the availability group if I can get the restore feature working.
I am trying to make my maintenance plan to backup on a remote server but it fails with:
"failed with the following error: "xp_delete_file() returned error 2".

I have SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition with a number of in-memory tables sitting in my database.When server is restarted it takes many hours to recover my database if there was data in these in-memory tables before shutdown.As a result, I need to clean up in-memory tables every time before server instance shutdown. This is really annoying and requires extra prescriptive actions for support team. Can I have DDL server/database level trigger to catch shutdown event and clean my data before instance goes down?

I have two different SQL 2008 servers, I don't have permission to create a linked server in any of them. i created a trigger on server1.table1 to insert the same record to the remote server server2.table1 using OPENROWSET
i created a stored procedure to insert this record, and i have no issue when i execute the stored procedure. it insert the recored into the remote server.
The problem is when i call the stored procedure from trigger, i get an error message.

Any sql script or powershell script which outputs late running jobs? Currently I am using the below script to find out currently running jobs along with duration. But my requirement is to add few more columns to the query which indicates whether jobs is running fine or running behind expected time.

I'm trying to set up merge replication and when I try to synchrinize with the subscriber I get the error "invalid column name ROWGUIDCOL". Following an article it recomended to reseed the identity columns on the subscriber so that there is no conflict. Now the tables with the identity column have the "Not for replication "option on. Using DBCC CHECKIDENT (table_name, RESEED, some_value) does not change the SEED when I check. SQL server help file remarks on DBCC CHECKIDENT say that if the column was created with the "Not for replication " option on it cannot change the value.
From sql server help file:

If necessary, DBCC CHECKIDENT corrects the current identity value for a column. The current identity value is not corrected, however, if the identity column was created with the NOT FOR REPLICATION clause (in either the CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE statement).
Any way around it or any help so I dont get that "invalid column name ROWGUIDCOL" error?

There are many duplicate records on my data table because users constantly register under two accounts. I have a query that identify the records that have a duplicate, but it only shows one of the two records, and I need to show the two records so that I can reconcile the differences.The query is taken from a post on stack overflow. It gives me 196, but I need to see the 392 records.
How to identify the duplicates and show the tow records without having to hard code any values, so I can use the query in a report, and anytime there are new duplicates, the report shows them.

The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.
On my SQL Server 2014 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2, allow inbound TCP 1433 and UDP 1434 seems to not be enough for managing remotely any named instance on this server.

The production box does not have these jobs. What would be the simplest way to export these jobs so that i can import them on the production box. Any help would be appreciated.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to schedule a job which pulls files from a non SQL server (Sybase) which later needs to have a step 2 kicking the ssis package. Problem is that, on the source a batch file will run every 4 hours and outputs total of 10 text files. (takes 5 minutes complete). Now, on destination i want to pull these files via SQL job but while scheduling;
1. I don't see any option saying like 4 hours 10 minutes or so
2. If its out there, then i believe this might be a problem as this time would be an increment one e.g next run would be 4 hours 20 minutes in that case.
How should i achieve pulling these files up because we have an SSIS package on destination that needs those text files to be used as soon as they arrive on SQL server(destination)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to create a database on my local machine and work with it. But I am not able to see the name of my local server under "Database Engine" in the list of "Registered Servers".
Options I tried:
(1) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "Update Local Server Registration"
(2) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "New" -> Server Registration.
In "New Server Registration" Window, in "Server Name" drop down I clicked "Browse for more" but still in "Browse for Servers" window, I am not able to see the name of my local server in "Local Servers" tag under Database Engine.
(3) If I do File -> Connect Object Explorer -> Connect to Server window in "Server name" drop down box, if I click "Browse for more", I am able to see local server name eg. "XYZ" under Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services but not under "Database Engine"
Please help me create a new database engine in SQL Server 2005 or list my local server under "Database engine" ?
