i have a sql server job scheduled to run daily twice.the job is running fine , but once or twice a week the job fails saying."Message Unable to connect to SQL Server '(local)'. The step failed." all other times the job runs successfully. it randomly the job is failing. once its failed and if i try to run it manually it runs fine or it will start running fine from next schedule onwards. This job mainly executes a stored procedure.the owner of the job is setup as sa. i don't understand why its fail randomly and all other times(90% of cases) it successful."Unable to connect to SQL Server '(local)'. The step failed."
View 2 Replies View Relatedone of my SQL Developer member had one observation that, size of the parameter 'Parameter_XYZ' in certain stored procedure had changed from 25 to 255 during some production fixes, however suddenly its looks like that, someone has changed it back to 25 instead of 255.
DECLARE @Parameter_XYZ
varchar(25);
Can we figure out in which sprint/drop the stored procedure was changed and the Parameter_XYZ back to 25. Can any log recovery mechanism will get such details.
Can we get stored procedure text between different alteration.
Hallo there,
I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available.
My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs.
I enabled all the protocols and all the ports
I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32)
I installed all service packs available
I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress
But nothing happens!

Hi All,
I am new to SQL Server and having trouble using SQL Server Management Studio. I am unable to select the Database Engine in management studio.
I am able to see the instance of default database engine (MSSQLServer) running in Reporting Services manager as well as in Surface area configuration manager, but it is not visible in the drop down list in Management Studio's "Select Database Engine" menu.
I had removed Sql server 2005 earlier ( I was able to select the database engine in Management Studio then). But when I installed it again, I was unable to install the Sql Server Tools (it said that my Upgrade is blocked). So, I cleaned the Windows Registry of all keys containing 'Sql'. After this I tried installing it again and successfully installed Sql Server 2005 + ALL TOOLS. But this time I am unable to select the database engine in management studio.
Thanks and Regards to ALL
I unable to setup a linked server on sql server 2012. The destination server is on sql server 7.0. I can able to setup the same linked server on sql 2005 sp4 and sql 2008 r2 but unable to setup on 2012. I am getting the below error message. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "" returned message "Client unable to establish connection due to prelogin failure".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 4 servers, 2 each for application (Dev & Prod)
DEV 1 & DEV 2 are standalone servers
Prod 1 & Prod 2 are Windows Clustered Servers.
From one application to other we do Distributed transactions. Dev 1 - Dev 2 or Dev 2 - Dev 1 can start DTC and working fine, but issue comes when Prod 1 - Prod 2 or Prod 2 - Prod 1. I get error message OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "xyz" returned message "No transaction is active.".
Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 3
The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "xyz" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
I have tested Dev 1 - Prod 1, Dev 1 - Prod 2, Dev 2 - Prod 1, Dev 2 - Prod 2 everything is working fine only Production servers are causing issue.
I enabled all settings needed for DTC on Cluster MSDTC service but no luck.
I am trying to attach a database to SQL 2005. This database has not previously been attached. I have only just installed SQL.
I get the following message: Unable to open physical file "C:ArrowSQLArr@DataArrow_data.mdf" Operating system error 5: "5(error not found)" (Microsoft SQL Server: Error 5120)".
I have loaded SQL and the database fiel and directory with the same user account which is a local administrator on this machine. I have checked that I have read/write access to the file.
The machine runs Windows Vista Business. SQL has SP 2 loaded. What causes this?
I am unable to the access on table even after providing the SELECT permission on table.
Used Query by me :
Here Test is schema ; Card is table ; User is Satish
To grant select on Table
GRANT SELECT ON TEST.Card TO satish
Even after this it is not working, So provided select on schema also.
used query : GRANT SELECT ON SCHEMA::TEST TO Satish.
Anyone had time to play with this yet? Wanna know if it was worth playing around with.

I have to keep 10 Recent passwords , so I created another table "ut_Password " (Table2)
This table contains the following columns : Username, Password , and Password_Date.
I searched a lot but could not find something similar in my opinion need SP for it.
- 10 row Max for Password History in table 2
- when user change password it's need to be uniqe and it should not appear last 10 passwords
- Each user can have a maximum of 10 lines containing history password table
- Most old password deleted and replaced with a new password will enter the correct date (FIFO method first in first out).

What I need to do is re-record the above data the startdate of each terminated record become an enddate for the previous record, minus 1 day, as follows:
CUSTOMERID TIER STARTDATE ENDDATE

I want to give developers access to view SQL Job history, but not let them inhert permission to create local jobs like they get with the fixed server roles.
how can this be achieved? Or can it only be achieved by giving them access to the tables in msdb and querying them?
Recently I've installed Microsoft SQL Server Health and History Tool Version 2
and The SQLH2 Reports are a set of reports that provide different views on the data
that the tool collects. But unfortunately I can be able to see Data on Performone counters
Report. I can not find optional component SQLH2 Performance Collector is a stand-
alone service of Microsoft Windows that collects and stores performance counter data from
selected servers.
The Deployment guide tells :
Performance Collector is optional, and is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center (search for SQL Server with keyword SQLH2): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx
But it does not give result
Where can I find the missing component ?
Thanks

I have this script that I'm trying to filter the results of the Job History to the day prior at 1800 hours.
It return dates prior to what I have in the WHERE clause.
What should the WHERE Clause look like?
USE msdb
Go
SELECT j.name JobName,h.step_name StepName,
CONVERT(CHAR(10), CAST(STR(h.run_date,8, 0) AS dateTIME), 111) RunDate,
STUFF(STUFF(RIGHT('000000' + CAST ( h.run_time AS VARCHAR(6 ) ) ,6),5,0,':'),3,0,':') RunTime,
h.run_duration StepDuration,
case h.run_status when 0 then 'failed'
[code]....
So I have two steps in my job that check conditions and call RAISERROR to gracefully complete the job if those conditions are met (meaning I only want the final step to run in a specific situation). Works great, except for some reason my messages are not making it into the log. It is appending the SQLSTATE, and a default error instead of anything that I'm putting into RAISERROR.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to restore a database from a folder of backups (including full, diff and log backups) without using the backup history in msdb?
I have a restore process that restores all backups on a regular schedule in order to fully verify their integrity. To do this, I use the backup history in msdb on each server that I'm monitoring. I had a thought the other day that I would be in trouble if I lost msdb. Then my backup history would only be as good as the last backup of msdb.
What I'd like to do is read a folder of backup files and generate a restore script up to a specified time. Would I use RESTORE HEADERONLY to do this? If so, would I use PowerShell to traverse each file in the folder?
comparing UNIQUEIDENTIFIER columns..This query returns several rows where the [ReportId] and [LastRunDate] columns are both NULL:
SELECT [c].[Name],[c].[ItemID],[xl].[ReportID]
, MAX([TimeStart]) [LastRunDate]
FROM [dbo].[Catalog] [c]
LEFT JOIN [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage] [xl] on [c].[ItemID] = [xl].[ReportID]
WHERE [c].[Type] NOT IN (1,5) -- Not a folder or a data source!
group by [c].[Name],[c].[ItemID],[xl].[ReportID]
order by 4
However, trying to just list catalog reports with no execution history returns 0 rows, but I'm expecting it to return a row for every NULL [ReportId] from the above query:
SELECT *
FROM [dbo].[Catalog]
WHERE [Type] NOT IN (1,5) -- Not a folder or a data source!
AND [ItemID] NOT IN (SELECT [ReportID] FROM [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage])
I even tried casting [ItemId] and [ReportId] columns in the 2nd query to VARCHAR(255), and still got no rows, but the following queries return 0 rows and 1 row (respectively).
select * from [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage] where [ReportID] = '0BB2209C-7736-46C8-AD02-4614EBA4F0F1'
select * from [dbo].[Catalog] where [ItemID] = '0BB2209C-7736-46C8-AD02-4614EBA4F0F1'

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to schedule a job which pulls files from a non SQL server (Sybase) which later needs to have a step 2 kicking the ssis package. Problem is that, on the source a batch file will run every 4 hours and outputs total of 10 text files. (takes 5 minutes complete). Now, on destination i want to pull these files via SQL job but while scheduling;
1. I don't see any option saying like 4 hours 10 minutes or so
2. If its out there, then i believe this might be a problem as this time would be an increment one e.g next run would be 4 hours 20 minutes in that case.
How should i achieve pulling these files up because we have an SSIS package on destination that needs those text files to be used as soon as they arrive on SQL server(destination)
