Multi Select Parameter From Function - Select All?

Sep 6, 2007

I am using RS 2000. I have a multi select parameter where I can select multiple states by separating with a comma. I am trying to figure out how to incorporate an "All" parameter.

Query:

Select [name], city, state, zipcode
From Golf inner join charlist_to_table(@State,Default)f on State = f.str

Function:

CREATE FUNCTION charlist_to_table
(@list ntext,
@delimiter nchar(1) = N',')
RETURNS @tbl Table (listpos int IDENTITY(1, 1) NOT NULL,
str varchar(4000),
nstr nvarchar(2000)) AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @pos int,
@textpos int,
@chunklen smallint,
@tmpstr nvarchar(4000),
@leftover nvarchar(4000),
@tmpval nvarchar(4000)
SET @textpos = 1
SET @leftover = ''
WHILE @textpos <= datalength(@list) / 2
BEGIN
SET @chunklen = 4000 - datalength(@leftover) / 2
SET @tmpstr = @leftover + substring(@list, @textpos, @chunklen)
SET @textpos = @textpos + @chunklen
SET @pos = charindex(@delimiter, @tmpstr)
WHILE @pos > 0
BEGIN
SET @tmpval = ltrim(rtrim(left(@tmpstr, @pos - 1)))
INSERT @tbl (str, nstr) VALUES(@tmpval, @tmpval)
SET @tmpstr = substring(@tmpstr, @pos + 1, len(@tmpstr))
SET @pos = charindex(@delimiter, @tmpstr)
END
SET @leftover = @tmpstr
END
INSERT @tbl(str, nstr) VALUES (ltrim(rtrim(@leftover)),
ltrim(rtrim(@leftover)))
RETURN
END
GO

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Deb

Trouble Calling Function In View && Multi-Table Select...

Aug 13, 2007

How Do I fix View(below) or Multi-Table select(below) to use this Function to return distinct rows via qcParent_ID?

Following Function populates a field (with concat list of related titles) with other required fields:

Create Function [dbo].openItemsIntoList(@Delimeter varchar(15),@qcparent_ID varchar(1000))

Returns Varchar(8000) as

Begin

Declare @Lists as varchar(8000);

Select @Lists = '';

Select @Lists = @Lists + itemTitle + @Delimeter From z_QClocate_openAll_Qualifier

Where @qcParent_ID = qcParent_ID;

Return Substring(@Lists,1,len(@Lists)-len(@Delimeter));

End

works perfect against single table select (returning 54 distinct rows by qcParent_ID):

Select a.qcParent_ID, a.Facility, a.Modality, openItemListToFix

From dbo.a2_qcEntryForm a

JOIN (Select DISTINCT qcParent_ID, dbo.openItemsIntoList(' / AND ',qcParent_ID) as openItemListToFix FROM dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix) i

on a.qcParent_ID = i.qcParent_ID

But data is needed from 3 tables...
- Created a VIEW that returns all (82) rows (negating distinct of the function on qcParent_ID)
- Failed Miserably Integrating Function call into a multi-table select (inexperienced with complex joins)

This VIEW returns ALL (82) rows in table:

CREATE VIEW z_QClocate_openAll AS

SELECT dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus, dbo.a1_qcParent.qcAlert, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID,

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemTitle, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Facility, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Modality

FROM dbo.a1_qcParent INNER JOIN

dbo.a2_qcEntryForm ON dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcParent_ID INNER JOIN

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix ON dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcEntryForm_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID AND

dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID

WHERE (dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Awaiting Attn') AND (dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete = 0) OR

(dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'In Process') OR

(dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Re-Opened')

Calling like this returns ALL 82 rows (negating the functions distinct):

Select a.qcParent_ID, a.qcStatus, a.qcAlert, a.itemComplete, a.Facility, a.Modality, openItemListToFix

From z_QClocate_openAll a

JOIN (Select DISTINCT qcParent_ID, dbo.openItemsIntoList(' / AND ',qcParent_ID) as openItemListToFix FROM dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix) i

on a.qcParent_ID = i.qcParent_ID

AND THEN THERES...
Failing miserably on Integrating the Function call into This SELECT ON MULTI-TABLES:

How to integrate the Function call:
JOIN (Select DISTINCT qcParent_ID, dbo.openItemsIntoList(' / AND ',qcParent_ID) as openItemListToFix FROM dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix) i

on a.qcParent_ID = i.qcParent_ID

into the multi-table Select relationships (while maintaining Where & Order By):

SELECT dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus, dbo.a1_qcParent.qcAlert, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID,

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete, dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemTitle, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Facility, dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.Modality

FROM dbo.a1_qcParent INNER JOIN

dbo.a2_qcEntryForm ON dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcParent_ID INNER JOIN

dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix ON dbo.a2_qcEntryForm.qcEntryForm_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcEntryForm_ID AND

dbo.a1_qcParent.qcParent_ID = dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.qcParent_ID

WHERE (dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Awaiting Attn') AND (dbo.a3_qcItems2Fix.itemComplete = 0) OR

(dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'In Process') OR

(dbo.a1_qcParent.qcStatus = 'Re-Opened')

Transact SQL :: How To Turn Select Aggregate Function Statement Into A Variable

May 26, 2015

I tend to learn from example and am used to powershell. If for instance in powershell I wanted to get-something and store it in a variable I could, then use it again in the same code. In this example of a table order items where there are order_num, quantity and item_prices how could I declare ordertotal as a variable then instead of repeating it again at "having sum", instead use the variable in its place?

Any example of such a use of a variable that still lets me select the order_num, ordertotal and group them etc? I hope to simply replace in the "having section" the agg function with "ordertotal" which bombs out.

select order_num, sum(quantity*item_price) as ordertotal
from orderitems
group by order_num
having sum(quantity*item_price) >=50
order by ordertotal;

Compare The Value Of A Variable With Previous Variable From A Function ,reset The Counter When Val Changes

Oct 15, 2007

I am in the middle of taking course 2073B €“ Programming a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database. I noticed that in Module9: Implementing User-Defined Functions exercise 2, page 25; step 2 is not returning the correct answer.

Select employeeid,name,title,mgremployeeid from dbo.fn_findreports(2)

It returns manager id for both 2 and 5 and I think it should just return the results only for manager id 2. The query results for step 1 is correct but not for step 2.

Somewhere in the code I think it should compare the inemployeeid with the previous inemployeeid, and then add a counter. If the two inemployeeid are not the same then reset the counter. Then maybe add an if statement or a case statement. Can you help with the logic? Thanks!

Here is the code of the function in the book:

Select From Linked Server Using Join, The Multi-part Identifier Could Not Be Bound.

Nov 6, 2006

Hello,

i am facing a bizarre problem, accessing data from a remote server which has been linked to my sql.
My SQL server is 2005 and the remote server is SQL 2000.
i have linked the remote server (called LinkedServer) so that when i run this query:
SELECT * FROM LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable
executes successfully! However, when i run a similar query like this:
SELECT Column1 AS Col1,
LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2 as Col2,
Alias.Column3 as Col3
FROM LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable
INNER JOIN LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable1 ON LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3 = LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable1.Column3

INNER JOIN LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable2 AS Alias
ON LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3 = Alias.Column3

It gives me this error:
The multi-part identifier "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2" could not be bound.
The multi-part identifier "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3" could not be bound.
I have noticed that this error is generated only for the selected columns whose path has either been repeated (e.g. "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2" as opposed to "Column2") or for columns which are from aliased tables.

What is going on?!?!?!??!?!?!

Any Help would be tremendously appreciated!!!! 8..)

(Select All) In Multi-select Enabled Drop Down Parameters

Feb 27, 2008

There are several parameters on a report. One of the parameter is a multi-select enabled parameter and I suppressed the value "All" showing as one of the item in the drop down list, simply by filter out the [bha].[bha].CURRENTMEMBER.LEVEL.ORDINAL to 1, as "(Select All)" is pre-assigned to the drop list when multi-select is enabled and it is confusing to show "(Select All)" and "All" in the drop list. However I have another report which is linked to this report and the value which is required to pass to this report for this parameter is "All". Can I pass the "Select All" as a parameter from the other report? If so, how? Thanks.

Multi-value Parameter And Function

Mar 21, 2008

I have a report with the following dataset query:

Code Snippet
SELECT ...,
dbo.getActivitySinceBeginningYear(..., @countryId ,...) AS HoursYear
FROM ....
WHERE cast(detail.COUNTRY_ID as nvarchar(max)) IN (@countryId)
AND ...
GROUP BY ...

countryId is defined as a String multi-valued parameter.
The getActivitySinceBeginningYear is defined as follows:

Code Snippet
ALTER FUNCTION dbo.getActivitySinceBeginningYear
(
...
@countryId ntext,
...
)
RETURNS decimal(18,5)
AS
BEGIN
declare @return decimal(18,5)
set @return = 0.0

SELECT @return = SUM(detail.HOURS_WORKED)
FROM ...
inner join charlist_to_table(@countryId, Default) f on detail.COUNTRY_ID = f.str
WHERE ...
RETURN @return
END

This function works as expected if I transmit one ID or several.
The report works fine if I check only one ID.
If I check several IDs, the report displays this error:
Procedure or function dbo.getActivitySinceBeginningYear has too many arguments specified.

Why???

My second problem is with the Where clause:

Code Snippet
WHERE cast(detail.COUNTRY_ID as nvarchar(max)) IN (@countryId)

If I do:

Code SnippetWHERE detail.COUNTRY_ID IN (@countryId)

I have the following error:
Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '3,5' to data type int.
(I transmitted 3 and 5 for countryId)

That's why I tried to use a cast, but the data returned by the query is wrong when I transmit several value.

Multi-statement Table-Valued Function

Oct 18, 2007

I'm creating a Multi-statement Table-Valued Function...

Is it possible to insert variables into the table? In other words, is it possible
to have something like

declare
@value1 varchar(10)
@value2 varchar(10)

BEGIN
<do some work on value1 and value2>
INSERT @returningTable
@value1, @value2

instead of

BEGIN
<do some work on value1 and value2>
INSERT @returningTable
SELECT col1, col2 from T_SOURCE

Here's why I want to insert variables...My function needs to return a table which contains a 'partial' incremental key.
I'll go with an example to explain what i have to do

Source_table
col1 col2
Mike 10
Mike 20
Ben 50
John 15
John 25
John 35

The table that my function needs to create should look like this
col1 col2 col3
Mike 10 1
Mike 20 2
Ben 50 1
John 15 1
John 25 2
John 35 3

I thought of creating a cursor and then looping through it generate col3 and save values of other individual columns in variables. But don't know how to use those variables when inserting records into function table.

Any other ideas? I'm caoming from Oracle world, I might be having some strange ideas on how to solve this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Reporting Services :: SSRS Multi-Value Parameter Feed To Table Value Function

Jul 24, 2015

I have an SSRS report with several variables, some of which are multi-valued. The main query that feeds the report uses some table value functions. For example, the query looks something like this:

select tv1.a, tv1.b, tv2.x, tv2.y, tbl.m, tbl.n
from tableValueFunction1(@MultiValueParam) as tv1
inner join tableValueFunction2(@MultiValueParam) as tv2 on tv1.xxx = tv2.xxx
inner join regularTable as tbl on tv1.xxx = tbl.xxx

where tbl.abc in (@MultiValueParam).When I try to run this, I get an error saying that I'm feeding the wrong number of parameters into the table value functions. I've fed multi-valued parameters to stored procedures before and used a splitter function to split out the comma separated values, so I was planning to do the same thing in this scenario. However, this is different. When I look at the query in SQL Profiler, it shows discrete values for the multi value parameter. For example, the same query above looks like this when viewed through the profiler (using 1,2,3 as my multi-value selection):

select tv1.a, tv1.b, tv2.x, tv3.y, tbl.m, tbl.n
from tableValueFunction1(1,2,3) as tv1
inner join tableValueFunction2(1,2,3) as tv2 on tv1.xxx = tv2.xxx
inner join regularTable as tbl on tv1.xxx = tbl.xxx
where tbl.abc in (1,2,3)

In other words, SSRS isn't converting the multi-value parameter to a comma separated string, like it normally does.

SQL Server 2012 :: Column X Is Invalid In Select List Because It Is Not Contained In Aggregate Function

Apr 3, 2015

I have a specific variation on the standard 'Column Invalid' question: I have this query that works fine:

SELECT vd.Question ,
csq.Q# ,
csq.Q_Sort ,
csq.Q_SubSort ,
AVG(CAST(vd.Response AS FLOAT)) AS AvgC ,
vd.RType

[Code] ....

When I add this second average column like this:

SELECT vd.Question ,
csq.Q# ,
csq.Q_Sort ,
csq.Q_SubSort ,
AVG(CAST(vd.Response AS FLOAT)) AS AvgC ,

[Code] ....

I get the error: Column 'dbo.vwData.Response' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.

Clearly things are in the right place before the change, so I can only assume that the OVER clause is my problem. Is this just not possible?
