DB Engine :: Identifying Cause Of Non Yielding Scheduler Error
Sep 15, 2015
I've applied SP3 to a 2008 R2 instance in order to solve non yielding scheduler errors. Â However, I just had another one after applying the SP. Â

i restarted the server as , i could not stop the services running , as the view processess window in sql server had become non responsive and i could not kill or even view the processes ...
no idea what caused it or how this can be stopped from happening again,
please advise if you have encountered this problem
We are running SQL Server 2000 SP3 + security patches on Windows 2000 Advance Server.
After we did the security updates released before Jan 8th,
We are getting the below error 2 times within a month and the sql server is not responding after this error. After rebooting the server, it responds and works normally.
please give me a solution for this

Is it better to run the profiler or performan counter?
What are the filters we have to select in the profiler to monitor the Sql server
We have an issue where servers goes slow from morning 2 AM EST to 10 AM EST.
Using SP_WhoIsActive we somehow found that there is netbackup from Symantec which runs during that time phrase.
As per Symantec team there backup should get over by 5 AM EST, per their testing for almost 100 Dbs on the server( not big in size , all of them in total would be 60 GB).
Using SP_whoisactive we only see, start time of that virtual backup occurring on tape, for one database at time.
So is there a way we actually determine when does the above backup kicks and stops? Also, could SQL server be the problem in making these backups run slow or there is something else i need to monitor?
Environment: Clustered SQL Server 2K sp3a (single instance) Product version: 8.00.760 Problem: I end up in error 17883. I am aware that the solution is to apply this patch: 821277 MS03-031:Security Patch for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3. I am also aware that after you install this cumulative patch you will end up in this problem: 826161 FIX: You are prompted for password after you change a standard SQL Server login. After reading this one I found that there are 2 possibility to solve this problem, one if you have already installed the security patch from MS03-031 and another one if you do NOT have installed this patch. Question: Do I only need to apply this last one (is it also cumulative?) or do I need to first apply MS03-031 and then later the FIX 826161? Please advise. Kind regards.

We are using SQL Server 2005 (not on SP1), and keep getting the following message in the SQL Server log:
IO Completion Listener (0x15e8) Worker 0x00B7E0E8 appears to be non-yielding on Node 0. Approx CPU Used: kernel 0 ms, user 0 ms, Interval: 35092.
After receiving this message, the server slows down considerably and we receive numerous messages saying:
SQL Server has encountered 61 occurrence(s) of I/O requests taking longer than 15 seconds to complete on file [xxxxx.MDF] in database [xxxx] (22). The OS file handle is 0x00000CDC. The offset of the latest long I/O is: 0x000000fa21a000
I have not been able to find any documentation or explanation of what the IO Completion Listener message is about or how to correct whatever problem is causing it.

I created a HelloWorld like example using InforPath 2007 and endpoint with SQL Server 2005. Very simple example.
I created a stored procedure that took in one parameter, a datetime field. This parameter is then inserted into a db table that has two columns, an id column and a datetime column.
I took the store procedure just discribed to create an endpoint. Cool. The WSDL is showing, I'm feeling good.
I go to InfoPath and make it so that submit a datetime to the webmethod associated with the endpoint. The data table shows one more row has been added and it is the datetime I sent from InfoPath. YEA!! I go to the Event View and see that I have an error message. The message is HTTP authenticaiton failed. [CLIENT: 10.8.2.26]. Bummer!!
This does not make sense to me. I am able to update the targeted database table but I get an exception. I do not like exceptions nor warnings without an explanation. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?
I had to give up for the project I am currently working because of time constraints. But in the future, for out-of-the-box functionality for proof-of-concept/prototyping, I would like to use endpoints.

I have successfully converted a MSVS 2005 Winforms Application into the MSVS 2008 beta 2. I am however having trouble getting the winmobile data tables to fill. The ODBC Paradox tables fill fine. When I converted the application I had to re create the win mobile datasource for the project. So I used the datasource wizard in 2008, it opened the winmobile5 database and told me that I would need to convert the database to 3.5. I let it overwrite the existing database and it created a new .xsd file for me for the project. When I try to load data into the database tables
You are trying to access an older version of a SQL Server Compact 3.5 database. If this is a SQL Server CE 1.0 or 2.0 database, run upgrade.exe. If this is a SQL Server Compact 3.5 database, run Compact/Repair.
I have run Compact but not repair, and still get the same error.
1. What could be left in the project that ismaking it expect to open the 3.0 database instead of the 3.5 that was converted in the datasource wizard?(If I substitute an older database file I get the native error 25010 Invalid File Name. Check the database filename. ) 2. Is there a way after you convert a project to then add a datasource to the project that would use the same xsd file and datasetDesigner.cs from before the conversion ?

I have been successfully using SQL Server 2005 developer edition for a couple of months now. However, when I started Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio this morning I could not connect to the €œDatabase Engine€? (I€™m using Windows Authentication). I can still connect with the €œIntegration Services€? and €œAnalysis Services€? on the same server. The server running on my local machine, so there shouldn€™t be any problems with the network. I am also able to connect with it through ODBC, it just seems to be the Server Management Studio which can€™t connect, and it only has problems with the €œDatabase Engine.€? Any help would be appreciated.David
The detailed error message says:

I want to move the log location to the E drive because it can get quite large. I already changed the setting in the SQL Server Error and Usage config tool, but this did not seem to make a difference.
I have a backup of DB with version Microsoft sql 2012 and i need restore this data base on instance Microsoft sql 2008 R2 when i try restore database on SQL server 2008 R2  i have the error:
I am running SQL 7.0 with Access 97 as a front end. I am having a problem linking one of the tables with an odbc connection. When I try to link the table, it gives me the error :
"The database engine can't find <name of table>. Make sure it is a valid parameter or alias name, that it doesn't include invalid characters or punctuation, and that the name isn't too long."
I have tried renaming the table, and it then will allow the connection, but if I rename it back to the original name, it doesn't work again. The table name is "Invoice_Line_Item". Changing the name permanently is not an option.
Has anyone else run across this problem, or know of a fix for it.

I have a very irritating error with Database Engine Tuning Advisor. While processing traces from Sql Profiler I keep getting trace log full of syntax error of most of queries - some of them very simple and ALL of them perfectly correct ( I check them separatly in QueryAnaliser ) - program gives recomendtation when I enter queries one by one - in that case the syntax is correct for Database Engine Tuning Advisor, but I just can't imagine why quries given to analysis in the set aren't correct? I dont' want to enter trace query by query (while I have thousends of them) !
It all seem like a Database Engine Tuning Advisor bug, any ideas about this problem?

Currently i am running a large sql server 2000. Usually when i need to generate reports, i will need to query using query analyser and paste the result in excel. This process is very tedious as the query takes long time due tolarge data. Also my reports have the frequency of daily, weekly and monthly.
I am looking for a job/query scheduler to automate this process and publish the result in excel.
I understand that DTS can only schedule a query to run but extracting the data to excel and Reporting Services does not have scheuler.
Please advise if there is any s/w or application can do this. Any freebies?
I am have problems running a couple of jobs. It makes no sense. I have checked and made sure the agent service is running the same user level permissions as I am. I run the job manually from SMS and it works fine.
User is a Windows Login.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, though i've been using sql server 2000 developer edition for awhile, I guess i overlooked the fact that the full-text search tool was never installed and i never needed it until now. Anyway, tried installing it today and get this error:
Installation of Microsoft Full-Text Search Engine Package Failed (-2147220991) 0x80040201 An event was unable to invoke any of the subsribers
I have no idea what this means - can you help me to get this installed correctly? I did just install service pack 4, and i tried reinstalling the components, tried rebuilding the registery of the current instance, and even tried creating a new instance with hopes that the new instance would install the full-text component - which it did not.
Any suggestions? Maybe I have to unistall the entire Software and reinstall it? Would I lose any of my data in doing this? I should note that all other tools seem to function fine.

I understand from some threads here that it is an issue related to contacting the AD. In event viewer it is not clear what is casuing this. I have WSS databases, Biztalk server databases.....and some other user databases. NO home made applications contact sql server.  What is the best route to follow to see who is not being able sometimes and why contacting the AD. Backing up all databases on a sql server that hosts secondary high availability databases as well as other databases. Â The other databases back up fine, but the high availability secondaries all get the same error:
BackupDiskFile::OpenMedia: Backup device 'F:MSSQLBackupdbnamedbname_backup_2015_MM_DD_tttttt_ttttttt.bak' failed to open. Operating system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)
