DB Access From Master Page

I am using content and master pages. The content page has to query the database to get the master page name (among other things), which is done in ‘Page_PreInit’, and then the master page has to query the database to get some layout options, done in ‘Page_Load’.
Is it possible for the master page to use the existing open connection, or am I forced to close the connection in the content page and open up a new connection in the master page? I’ve tried various things without success.
The second question is, does it matter? Will opening and closing two connections be much slower than opening and closing one?

I have installed MDS while installing SQL Server 2014 on my local machine ( windows 10). However when I try accessing the home page of Master Data Manager, it is giving access denied error. I am unable to access the Master Data Manager itself. MDS Database and Web Application are using same user account which is Administrator on the system.

Hi,
We have a ReportViewer control sitting inside a master page's content placeholder. All works fine except when I set the width and height to 100% rather than a fixed size in pixels. This is what we require, as we'd like the control to resize automatically along with the page.
I'm aware of a fix whereby you remove the doctype statement from the page's script, but this seems to have no effect on a page which is based on a master page.
Is there any other way we can get our ReportViewer to work in a 100% width/height mode?

I currently just have a stored procedure returning the results and it is very slow as I'm simply querying the details section for each order header. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can create an efficient and fast method for returning these results in the format above?

I have a master detail reports in one page. Master report displays all the products and details report shows their orders... I have a login associated with a single user on a database (not master). I want that user to be able to only see what I've specified in the securables.
Now I've created a ODBC connection using that login. The problem is that the user can also see the master db info. I was expecting to see just the one view I created and granted the user to view. How do I get rid of all the master db stuff?

Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to SQL, ASP.NET, etc. I am creating an intranet site for my company in VS 2005 and have run into a very annoying problem that I can't seem to solve. I have tried Googling it and came up empty. I have a database in SQL Express 2005 and my website will be accessing several tables within the database. I can retrieve info just fine and I can update, delete, etc just fine using gridview or other prebuilt tools, but when I add a few text boxes and wire a button to the SqlDataSource.Insert() command, I get a new record that is full of null values except for the identity key I have set. The kicker is that I am also using a master page and when I duplicate the web page without the master page link, everything works just fine. The following snippets show what I'm doing:<InsertParameters><asp:FormParameter Name="Name" Type="String" FormField="txtName" /><asp:FormParameter Name="Location" Type="String" FormField="ddlLocation" /><asp:FormParameter Name="Issue" Type="String" FormField="txtProblem" /></InsertParameters>Of course I match the formfields to the text boxes, create an onclick event for my button, the sqldatasource is configured correctly, it just doesn't work with the master page no matter what I do. I removed MDS web UI which is working before and recreated. I enabled Window Authentication and Disabled Anonymous Authentication in IIS Authentication. I am getting Access denied when I view MDS web Site.

Hi,
We are using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.
I created a Minimal User in an application DB. The user will access tables through stored procedures.
I do not want this user to view any other objects including objects in the Master DB.
I can prevent the minimal user from viewing objects from our application DB.
How do you prevent the minimal user from viewing objects in the Master DB?

I have a login that is mapped to a Windows sysadmin account. I used it to login to Sql Server 2005. I then created a database called Freedom. I then added a Windows login and user called FreedomAdmin, with Freedom set as the default database. When I login in to Windows using FreedomAdmin and then try to login in to Sql Server 2005, I get the following error:
The server principal "FREEDOM1FreedomAdmin" is unable to access the database "master" under the current security context.
If the default database for FreedomAdmin is Freedom (and it is - I checked from my sysadmin login account), why can't I login. Must I give FreedomAdmin permissions to master?

Im developing an application in Visual Web Developer with an MS SQL Server Database.
I have Visual Web Developer Express edition installed on my machine and i had MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and everything was fine.
However i need to use SQL Server Agent to develop a job and this is not included in the express Edition of Ms SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
So i installed the 2005 developer edition of MS SQL Server.
Now Im currently getting the following error when i access the security page in the ASP.Net Configuration page
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Anyone tell me how i can fix this error?

I get the following error message when i click the Security tab on my websites' Administration tool. All the other tabs are working properly.

Need to access a secure website which displays a list of available files for download.
Firstly need to read that page to determine the most recent file.
There is a view link to the file which uses java script to post back information for file download.

Hi,
in one of our team projects users whom are members of the reporting services €œcontent manager€? role are not able to get onto the €œsql server€™s reporting services€? properties page of their team project. Instead of that page they receive the following error message:
The permissions granted to user '<UserName>' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
With four eyes we double checked that the users really have the content manager role, we also tried all kinds of role combinations with no success.
The interesting thing is that as soon as they €˜only€™ in the Browser role they have access to that particular page €“ but as expected are unable to administer their team projects reporting services.
The reporting services forum doesn€™t really offer any answers to this problem, neither did goolge nor this forum.
Could anyone explain this behavior to me?
Pls let me know if you need additional information on this.

Hello I have a project that uses a large number of MS Data access pages created in Access 2003 and runs on MS SQL2005.
When I am on lets say my client, (first page in a series) data access page and I have completed the fields in the (DAP), I am directing my users to the next step of the registration process by means of a hyperlink to another Data access page in the same web but in a linked or sometimes different table.
I need to pass data entered /created on the first page to the next page and populate the next page with some data from the first page / table. (like staying on the client name and ID when i go to the next page)
I also need the first data access page to open and display a blank or new record. Not an existing record. I will also be looking to creata a drop down box as a record selector.
Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
I am some what new to data access pages so a walk through would be nice but anything you got is welcome. Thanks Peter€¦

I got a File with sales orders and their details.
Step 1. First I am filtering the Sales Order information and inserting it in my Sales Orders table.
Step 2.Then I am filtering the details from the sales Order and inserting them in the respective table.
My Problem is that the Sales Order File does not contain the Sales Order key (ID), this is generated by the SQL Server. How can get it in order to use it in the second step? I need it because it is a foreign key in the details table.
Any Idea?

Then there is code for AllProducts.aspx that doesn't work if one inserts the code
into the DataTutorial project started on page 1. Yes I changed the name of the CodeFile!
The code given for AllProducts.aspx.cs doesn't compile.
I was doing better without the tutorial!
I can gleen out some concepts but that is all.
If that is all, why have a tutorial?

The following objects are placed on the Report body of the Report pane of SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services :
<textbox: expression1>

<table:table1 with at least 30 columns and 30 expressions>
<textbox: string1> - considered as the Title in the Footer section of the report
<texbox:string2> <textbox:expression3>
<textbox:string3> <textbox:expression4>
<textbox:string4> <textbox:expression5>
<textbox:expression6>
I can't find any explanation why is it string1 and string 2 of the footer section of my report displayed separately from the expression3 which is aligned on it and the rest of the object on the second page.
The expected design is that all Footer items should be displayed together of whether it is placed on the first page or on the last page.
As a workaround of this, I converted string 1 into an expression (Added = and enclosed the string with double quote).. As a result, all of the items in the Footer section are now placed together on the last page of the report.
I also remember one of the issue I encountered before where the Footer items where placed together on the first page and still have space at the bottom of the page, but then expression 6 is forced to display (alone) on the last page of my report.
I can't find any discussion related to this, I wish somebody could give me an idea why RS behaved like this.

Fit an intere table in same page without page break for save the excel export.
My table has a Group for order my dates.
I need to have the intere table in the same page, i don't care about blank space at the end of the page.
I can't use the page break beacuse i need an excel export in a unique sheet..
I have tested.. every page break..you'll have a different sheet in your excel export
