DB2 Date && Time Datatype Migration To SQL Server Datetime
Feb 15, 2006
Hi,
We are migrating our database from DB2 8 to SQL Server 2005. We have date and time saperate columns in DB2. For example, Date_of_birth, Store_sun_open_time, Store_sun_close_time etc. For date we are using datetime. For time what datatype should we use in SQL Server?
we have a table like thisOrderNo OrderDate1 2005-11-04 01:12:47.00022005-11-19 04:26:54.00032005-11-16 11:03:23.00042005-11-21 15:58:37.00052005-11-24 21:45:04.000what will be the sql query, so that the Result look like this.only to neqlect the time factor from datetime data type .OrderNoOrderDate1 2005-11-0422005-11-1932005-11-1642005-11-2152005-11-24
I have below SQL, which should be order by posteddate ASC
SELECT AnnouncementID,[Subject],[Description], CONVERT(nvarchar(10),PostedDate,101) AS PostedDate, CONVERT(nvarchar(10),ExpiredDate,101) AS ExpiredDate, CountryID,CreatedBy, CreatedDate, ModifiedBy, ModifiedDate FROM Announcements a WHERE isActive = 1 AND CountryID = 2 AND (GETDATE()>= PostedDate) AND (GETDATE()<= ExpiredDate) ORDER BY PostedDate ASC
But result is displaying as below, PostedDate datatype is datetime
For some reason, I recall having read that SQL Server 2005 would supporta datatype that represented date, but not time. (This would be usefulfor storing things like birthday, where you usually don't care about thetime of day). But I've got SQL Server 2005 installed, and there's nosuch datatype to be found. Is this something that might be released in a Service Pack, or is itjust not going to happen?
I have a requirement to be able to select and group records by the date portion of a datetime field. ie ignore the time when grouping so that all records lodged on a particular day are seen together.
I have been able to do this by
- converting the datetime data to the number of days since a given date - inserting this into a temporary table - retrieving the the data from the temporary table - convert the data back to a date using DATEPART to display dd/mm/yy
This then gives me the data grouped as required but seems to be a very difficult solution - Is there an easier way??
Here is my delema: I have data that I have transfered from Access2000 to SQL2000 without issue. However, in my data from Access I have a date field that has just date. When brought into SQL2000 it is given a timestamp as well. According to documentation, if no time is entered in teh field, one is provided (12:00:00 AM).
My delema is that I have a dropdown list box that displays distinct dates from a table for selection to execute a query but now my listbox is twice as long due to the insertion of the timestamp.
Is there a way to get rid of the timestamp that I am not capturing for this field? I can't believe that SQL2000 doesn't have a way to handle just a date.
Need some quick help here.. The data I got from the text file use the "04/11/2007" date format and the StockDate in MS-SQL use the datetime datatype.
My understanding is that the "04/11/2007" will default to the 04/11/2007 12:00 am" format in MS-SQL.
So, when I use the sql query, how do search only for the date part of the data in MS-SQL and match it to the data from text file? I tried this SQL Query below.
--snip-- SELECT RawID FROM tblPurchaseRaw WHERE VIN = '" & sVin.ToString.Trim & "' AND StockDate = '" & dStockDate.ToString.Trim & "' --snip--
That way, if I get a row then I know the data is there. If I don't get a row then I know the data is not there.
Bold: I get it now. It is all automatic as MS-SQL does it automatically...
I have a database which is centered around two date tables (approx. 5.5 million records each). We are finally making the big leap from SQL Server 2005 to 2012. The data is currently stored as datetime, and we are hoping to take advantage of the new date datatype, since the time component is not needed.
The first table has 13 different date columns. In testing on the 2012 server I have changed 3 columns so far, and have seen that changing the datatype to date is actually increasing the Index size and not affecting the data size. Only 3 of the columns are associated with indexes, and modifying a non-indexed column still increased the index size. I am running the Disk Usage by Table report to view the sizes.
I have a field that contains only a date, and a field that only contains times. If I try to add the two together, I get some meaningless date like year 2111.
The raw data looks like this EVT_DT='2005-12-05 00:00:00' EVT_TM='2005-12-06 13:59:00' //today's date
I wrote a function that gives me the minutes past midnight for the EVT_TM and use a dateadd(n,myMinutesFuntion(EVT_TM),EVT_DT), but it kills the performance in the nexted cursor.
I would like to save only the time into the datetime field in a table. when I do this, It will save it as "1/1/1900 15:23:00" All I would like to have is the time! Is there a way to update it so that it will only save the time?
Hi,We have a lame app that uses 2 datetime(8) fields, 1 stores the date, theother the time.example query:select aud_dt, aud_tmfrom ordersresults:aud_dt aud_tm2006-06-08 00:00:00.000 1900-01-01 12:32:26.287I'm trying to create a query that give me records from the current date inthe past hour. Here's a script that gives me todays date but I cannot figure out the time:select aud_dt, aud_tm, datediff(d,aud_dt,getdate()), datediff(mi, aud_tm,getdate())from orderswhere (datediff(d,aud_dt,getdate()) = 0)results:aud_dt aud_tmdatediff(0=today) timediff (since 1900-01-01)2006-06-08 00:00:00.000 1900-01-01 12:32:26.287 055978689I added this next part to the above query but it does not work since thedate/time is from 1900-01-01and (datediff(mi, aud_tm, getdate()) <= 60)Thanks for any help.
I have a package variable that is a datetime... how am I able to set the time of that variable? In visual studio on the variables screen if I click on value it brings up a calendar control - I can't seem to edit the time portion of the variable.
When I first click open the variables window it will say 9/1/2006 12:00:00 AM - but as soon as I click on the value box the 12:00:00 AM part will disappear and I can't edit it. I've tried on someone elses PC as well to make sure there isn't something wrong with my visual studio
I am importing a csv file to SQL 2005 table. The source column is coming as datetime. The destination filed is a datetime type. I would like to update the destination with the time part from the source. I used the data conversion to convert it to time using "database time[DT_DBTIME]". For a source value "2/08/2007 21:51:07" this inserts a value "2007-08-03 21:51:07.000". I need the column to have a value as "1900-01-01 21:57:07.000".
Can someone please tell me how do I do this conversion?
StartDate - data type Date StartTime - data type Time
I need to combine them into a DateTime data type. For now, I convert each of them into varchar, insert space in between, and convert to DateTime, like this:
How do I extract the ate and time from a datetime field. The field is called Log_DateTime. I want to extract the date and the time and then use these two expressions to sort/filter on in Query Analyzer.
Good morning.I am importing an XLS file into one of my tables. The fields are:Date Id Time IO12/22/2006 2 12:48:45 PM 912/22/2006 16 5:40:55 AM 112/22/2006 16 12:03:59 PM 2When I do the import, I get the following:Date Id Time IO12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 2 12/30/1899 12:48:45 PM 212/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 5:40:55 AM 112/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 12:03:59 PM 2Here are my doubts:1. Would it be better to combine the Date & Time fields into onecolumn? If so, how?2. What issues or problems might I have when I program SQL reports, ifI leave the fields as they are?Any comments or suggestions will be very much welcomed.Cheers mates.
I am importing an XLS file into one of my tables. The fields are:
Date Id Time IO
12/22/2006 2 12:48:45 PM 9
12/22/2006 16 5:40:55 AM 1
12/22/2006 16 12:03:59 PM 2
When I do the import, I get the following:
Date Id Time IO 12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 2 12/30/1899 12:48:45 PM 2 12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 5:40:55 AM 1 12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 12:03:59 PM 2
Here are my doubts:
1. Is it be better to combine the Date & Time fields into one column? Advantages/Disadvantages? 2. If I don't combine them, should I use varchar or datetime data type? 2. What issues or problems might I have when I program SQL reports, if I leave the fields as they are?
Any comments or suggestions will be very much welcomed.
I have a field in a table that stores date of birth. The field's datatype is char(6) and looks like this: 091703 (mmddyy). I want to convert this value to a datetime datatype.
What is the syntax to convert char(6) to datetime?
I'm trying to extract some data from a table in oracle. The oracle table stores date and time seperately in 2 different columns. I need to merge these two columns and import to sql server database.
I'm struggling with this for a quite a while and I'm not able to get it working.
I tried the oracle query something like this,
SELECT (TO_CHAR(ASOFDATE,'YYYYMMDD')||' '||TO_CHAR(ASOFTIME,'HH24:MM : SS')||':000') AS ASOFDATE
FROM TBLA
this gives me an output of 20070511 23:06:30:000
the space in MM : SS is intentional here, since without that space it appread as smiley
I'm trying to map this to datetime field in sql server 2005. It keeps failing with this error
The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data
I'm struck with error for hours now. Any pointers would be helpful.
I'm looking for a way of taking a query which returns a set of date time fields (probable maximum of 20 rows) and looping through each value to see if it exists in a separate table.
E.g.
Query 1
Select ID, Person, ProposedEvent, DayField, TimeField from MyOptions where person = 'me'
Table
Select Person, ExistingEvent, DayField, TimeField from MyTimetable where person ='me'
Loop through Query 1 and if it finds ANY matching Dayfield AND Timefield in Query/Table 2, return the ProposedEvent (just as a message, the loop could stop there), if no match a message saying all is fine can proceed to process form blah blah.
I'm essentially wanting somebody to select a bunch of events in a form, query 1 then finds all the days and times those events happen and check that none of them exist in the MyTimetable table.
I am trying to migrate data from MySQL 5.0 to SQL Server 2005. The MySQL database has a table which stores the profile description in different languages like (Arabic, Spanish etc). I use MySQL ODBC 5.1 driver for creating the ODBC connection and creating a ADO connection in SSIS using that ODBC. The datareader source connection is set to this ADO connection. When I view the properties of columns in Datareader source it shows as Unicode, which is good. But when I migrtae to SQL Server 2005 I get junk data instead of the data in Arabic, Spanish etc. Am I missing something or is there any other alternative to do the data transfer correctly?
How do we convert both of them into a single SQL DateTime field such as "2015-07-16 01:23:45.000" so that it can be used in a join restricting to a date time in a different SQL File that properly has the DateTime in it?
This works well for converting the transDate Part in the select statement:
dbo.IntegerToDate(at.transDate) as transDate
* That returns: "2015-07-16 00:00:00.000"
* The resulting data must work directly in a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Query using either using the "on" statement or part of the "where" clause. In other words, NOT as a stored procedure!
Also must be able to be used as a date difference calculation when comparing the 2 files Within say + or - 5 seconds.
I am currently working for the Sybase to Sql Server migration project and have been able to test migrate few tables using SSIS. After migration, i was doing some data comparision and could see the date formats are different between Sybase and Sql server. However, there are no issues with data like day in sybase becoming month in Sql server except the formats are different.
Do I need to act on this date formats? Not sure if this would cause any issues in front end application that will consume sql server date data.
Nothing difficult, I just need a way to generate a new datetime column based on the column [PostedDate], datetime. So basically I want to truncate the time. Thanks a lot.
I have an asp.net 4.5 webpage that has a detailsview on it that has a bound field that points to a SQL Server 2012 datetime field (CompDate). This field is supposed to capture date AND time of completion of a record (this is a data gathering project).
If e.NewValues.Item("Complete") = True Then Dim dt As DateTime = Now e.NewValues("CompDate") = dt e.NewValues("UNAME") = Membership.GetUser.ToString End If
Everything works great, except when the captured date/time is sent to sql server, the time portion is getting dropped and only zeros are getting stored in the time portion.
