I have a multi value field into which I have placed several different values. I wish to compare a value that is entered by the user with the multi value field, to find if the value entered is there. I am assuming ( and also hoping) that I can use DLookUp to do this. At the moment I get all of the multi values returned by DlookUp and they are separated by commas and the value that I want to find is in there. However this is giving me an error because of the separating commas. How can I isolate/extract the value that I want so that I can make a comparison ? Is it something like MyFieldName.Value?
UPDATE 13_Together_Dec_final_ICNs SET [13_Together_Dec_final_ICNs].PL = Right(Nz(DLookUp("PH_LEVEL_02_CD","dbo_DIM_PRODUCT","PIN = '")),2) WHERE ((([13_Together_Dec_final_ICNs].flag)="delete"));
I have a VB.NET Class called 'Approve' with a public function 'CanApprove' which returns a boolean value and accepts an input parameter of 'CurrentUserID' of type integer. I want to use something like this that I have usedin Access with VBA: lngID = Nz(DLookup("PermissionID", "tblPermissions", "ManagerID=" & UserID & " AND CurrentUserID=" & CurrentUserID & " AND Permission='A'"), 0) So that if the person who is currently logged in has permissions over the person whose invoice he/she is viewing to approve, it will return a positive value so that if lngID > 0 then set CanApprove=false or vice versa. How do I do this in ASP.net?
I am migrating a student database from Access to SQL Server. In AccessI have a query that displays grade information (grades are calculatedon a 12-point scale). In the query I average the students' scores andstore it in a column called Avg. I look up and display the equivalentgrade letter using Access' DLookup function from a table calledGradeTable_tbl. Here is how it's built in Access:Grade: DLookUp("[grade_letter]","GradeTable_tbl","[grade_num]= " &Int([Avg]))Here is the structure of the GradeTable_tbl:grade_num grade_letter0 F1 F2 D-3 D......10 B+11 A-12 AHow would I do the same thing in SQL Server? I want my output to besomething like:Student Score1 Score2 Score3 Avg GradeBob 12 10 8 10 B+Nancy 12 11 11 11 A-etc...I appreciate your feedback!-Paul------"You never know enough to know you don't know"
Does anybody knows how to create a DLOOKUP (dynamic lookup) in SSIS withour writing any kind of script? I need to test records existance in destination from the source before inserting or updating in the destination (if the record exist in destination then update, else insert).
I have a table (table1) that has a bunch of fields....[field1][field2][field3][field4][field5]None of these fields are unique, but if I combine them, then they areunique.I know there is a way to make multi-field primary keys, but when I tryI get an that field1 is not unique, which I already know,How can I make a multi-field primary key?thanks
I have several reports for which the user has asked to have an optional muti-value parameter. They want to be able to select zero, one, many, or all values in the parameter list. The parm list is created through a query and the values are not static.
I would like to allow the user to leave the muti-value field empty if they want to allow all values to appear on the report. I've read some discussion about populating a multi-value default with the same query that produces the multi-value list values - presto, everything is selected. However, this is not a desirable solution for me because I "echo" the users parameter selections in the report heading. Selecting all values (and some parms have a lot of values) would cause the "parm feedback" section to grow large and unreadable.
In short, I don't want to tell the user they have to select everything when they really want to select nothing.
Is there any way to have a muti-value parm that won't insist the user select one or more values?
Hi thereGot a interesting problem (depends on a point of view.....).Background :-Agent (within Domino) is run daily basis which extracts data fromDomino Notes application to SQL Server 2000 database. Agent firstremoves ALL contents and then appends ALL data.Reporting Tool is SQL Reporting Services (very cool !!).Problem :-Within Domino Notes, it can have a field which is mult-value fieldi.e. contain multi valuese.g.(from Helpdesk application)!HowTo!!Access Email;!HowTo!!Access the Web;etc..Need to create a view, then use sql to create stored proc, to be usedas the dataset for report within SQL Reporting services.Format. (using above as data as example)!HowTo!!Access Email; (1 row) WWL/SDR/04023/010 (DocID)!HowTo!!Access the Web; (2 row) WWL/SDR/04023/010 (DocID)I have a unique KEY within table called DocID. The report will have 8separate datasets (i.e. using subreports), all linked back to UniqueKey. That's easy. The dataset causing me hassle is the 1 above. How do u split outvalues as separate rows ?Name of field called --> "ImpFunctionsImpacted".Also, notes expert, who's working on the agent, tell's me the data canbe split either as a comma or semi-colon.Any suggestions most welcome.
INNER JOIN RETS.dbo._Updates U ON M.ListingID = U.ListingID AND M.FeedID = U.FeedID
WHERE M.FeedID = ?
But following error:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query " UPDATE Property SET ImageList = U.ImageList FROM Property M INNER JOIN RETS.dbo._Updates U ON M.ListingID = U.ListingID AND M.FeedID = U.FeedID WHERE M.FeedID = ?" failed with the following error: "The multi-part identifier "M.FeedID" could not be bound.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
ByPassPrepare is set to TRUE and ParameterName = 0 to variable User::Feed_ID
HOWEVER - following query executes fine:
UPDATE Property SET
ImageList = U.ImageList
FROM Property M
INNER JOIN RETS.dbo._Updates U ON M.ListingID = U.ListingID AND M.FeedID = U.FeedID
WHERE M.FeedID = 11
Beats me - any help with explaining this to me please?
Hi Everyone This is the query and I am getting follwoing error message

Disaster Recovery Options based on the following criteria.
--Currently running SQL 2012 standard edition --We have 18000 databases (same schema across databases)- majority of databases are less than 2gb-- across 64 instances approximately --Recovery needs to happen within 1 hour (Not sure that this is realistic -- We are building a new data center and building dr from the ground up.
What I have looked into is:
1. Transactional Replication: Too Much Data Not viable 2. AlwaysOn Availability Groups (Need enterprise) Again too many databases and would have to upgrade all instances 3. Log Shipping is a viable option and the only one I can come up with that would work right now. Might be a management nightmare but with this many databases probably all options with be a nightmare.
More often than not, I typically don't touch DTC on clusters anymore; however on a project where the vendor states that it's required. So a couple things here.
1) Do you really need DTC per instance or one for all? 2) Should DTC be in its own resource group or within the instance's group? 2a) If in it's own resource group, how do you tie an instance to an outside resource group? tmMappingSet right?
Hello,I am trying to construct a query across 5 tables but primarily 3tables. Plan, Provider, ProviderLocation are the three primary tablesthe other tables are lookup tables for values the other tables.PlanID is the primary in Plan andPlanProviderProviderLocationLookups---------------------------------------------PlanIDProviderIDProviderIDLookupTypePlanNamePlanIDProviderStatusLookupKeyRegionIDLastName...LookupValue....FirstName...Given a PlanID I want all the Providers with a ProviderStatus = 0I can get the query to work just fine if there are records but what Iwant is if there are no records then I at least want one record withthe Plan information. Here is a sample of the Query:SELECT pln.PlanName, pln.PlanID, l3.LookupValue as Region,p.ProviderID, p.SSNEIN, pl.DisplayLocationOnPCP,pl.NoDisplayDate, pl.ProviderStatus, pl.InvalidDate,l1.LookupValue as ReasonMain, l2.LookupValue as ReasonSub,pl.InvalidDataFROM Plans plnINNER JOIN Lookups l3 ON l3.LookupType = 'REGN'AND pln.RegionID = l3.Lookupkeyleft outer JOIN Provider p ON pln.PlanID = p.PlanIDleft outer JOIN ProviderLocation pl ON p.ProviderID = pl.ProviderIDleft outer JOIN Lookups l1 ON l1.LookupType = 'PLRM'AND pl.ReasonMain = l1.LookupKeyleft outer JOIN Lookups l2 ON l2.LookupType = 'PLX1'AND pl.ReasonSub = l2.LookupkeyWHERE pln.PlanID = '123456789' AND pl.ProviderStatus = 0ORDER BY p.PlanID, p.ProviderID, pl.SiteLocationNumI know the problew the ProviderStatus on the Where clause is keepingany records from being returned but I'm not good enough at this toanother select. Can anybody give me some suggestions?ThanksDavid
I am new to Reporting Services and hope that what I am looking to do is within capabilities :-)
I have many identical schema databases residing on a number of data servers. These support individual clients accessing them via a web interface. What I need to be able to do is run reports across all of the databases. So the layout is:
Dataserver A
Database A1
Database A2
Database A3
Dataserver B
Database B1
Database B2
Dataserver C
Database C1
Database C2
Database C3
I would like to run a report that pulls table data from A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, C1, C2, C3
Now the actual number of servers is 7 and the number of databases is close to 1000. All servers are running SQL2005.
Is this something that Reporting Services is able to handle or do I need to look at some other solution?
Greetings,We are trying to set up a set of "Leading Practices" for ourdevelopers, as well as ourselves, and hope some gentle reader canrecommend some documentation in favor of what appears to be the rightposition to take.We do not allow third party applications to run on our SQL Servers. Wewant to include DTS Packages under the definition of third partyapplications, insisting instead that the developers save theirpackages as COM Formatted files into their source code control systemsand run them from their app servers. The devlopers would like to hearthis from someone besides ourselves. While strong recomendations to remove guest access to MSDB altogetherabound, I have been unable to find a straight forward discussion ofthe advantages of structured file storage and app server off load ofDTS packages. Can anyone suggest any articles, white papers, rants, etc attemptingto formulate a solution to the benefits of taking msdb away fromguest, with the advantages of running DTS from an App server orworkstation platform, with the packages protected in source codecontrol?Thank youJohn Pollinsjpollins @ eqt . com
I'm using DTS to import data from an Access memo field into a SQL Server ntext field. DTS is only importing the first 255 characters of the memo field and truncating the rest.I'd appreciate any insights into what may be causing this problem, and what I can do about it.Thanks in advance for any help!
I need to pass in null/blank value in the date field or declare the field as string and convert date back to string.
I tried the 2nd option but I am having trouble converting the two digits of the recordset (rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2))) into a four digit yr. But it will only the yr in two digits. The mfg_start_date is delcared as a string variable
option 1 I will have to declare the mfg_start_date as date but I need to send in a blank value for this variable in the stored procedure. It won't accept a null or blank value.
I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them as datetime but it failed.
Hi ,Have a Visual C++ app that use odbc to access sql server database.Doing a select to get value of binary field and bind a char to thatfield as follows , field in database in binary(16)char lpResourceID[32+1];rc = SQLBindCol(hstmt, 1, SQL_C_CHAR,&lpResourceID,RESOURCE_ID_LEN_PLUS_NULL , &nLen1);and this works fine , however trying to move codebase to UNICODE antested the followingWCHAR lpResourceID[32+1];rc = SQLBindCol(hstmt, 1, SQL_W_CHAR,&lpResourceID,RESOURCE_ID_LEN_PLUS_NULL , &nLen1);but only returns 1/2 the data .Any ideas , thoughts this would work fine , nit sure why loosing dataAll ideas welcome.JOhn
Hi,another problem I have is that have compounded fields in my sql table.Exampleproduct@customerI need a simple function to return "customer", so it should return the valueafter "@", unfortunate "@" will sometimes be character number 6, sometimescharacter number 7 etc.regardsJorgen
I have a very strange situation. I've increased the size of an NVARCHAR field from 8 to 9 in a database table. The format of the data that I enter will either be an 8 character field (123456-8) or a 9 character field (1234567-9). The '-' is critical.
It used to only accept the 8 character version, but after increasing the field size, if I try to insert the 9 character field version, it gets truncated after the '-', as though it's still only allowing 8 characters. But that only occurs when I include the '-' or other such characters like '#'. If I try to insert 1234567a9, it works. The following explains the outcomes:
