I have a DTS Package that I am running from a command line via .bat file. Does anyone know if there is a command to have the command window minimized or running in the background? I used the /Rep N command but that still leaves the window open until the package has executed.

I have a serious problem with my SSIS Package while executing using 32-bit DTExec and 64-bit DTExec.
Here are the details:
Environment:
Windows Server 2003 64-bit (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
SSIS 32-bit & 64-bit installed
SQL Server 2005 (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (X64) - RTM)
SSIS Package details (compiled in 64 bit)
Script tasks only
Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (using TRY...CATCH block)
PreCompileScriptIntoBinaryCode = TRUE
Run64BitRunTime = TRUE
Execution
Batch file that uses DTExec to execute the Package.
SCENARIO
I am trying to exeucte the above SSIS package using both 32-bit and 64-bit DTExec to make it failure by providing invalid connection string. Here are the details,
Wrong connection String using 32-bit Execution
While establishing the connection the error message has been nicely captured in to my Exception block and writes into the log file.
Wrong connection String using 64-bit Execution
While establishing the connection the error has not been catpured anywhere (although I have TRY CATCH block) and it haults there itself with the message "Process is terminated due to StackOverflowException". Later I found that the error is due to the connection string along with the unhandled exception.
Please suggest any one of the following my findings, also if you have any other advice would be very much appreciated.
1. Shall I go ahead and fix the issue by handling those unhandled errors? (e.g Appdomain, application). I tried several but still not working using 64-bit DTExec.
2. Shall I go ahead and use 32-bit DTExec to execute the package? If so, is there any other major issue...like performance or anyother bug?
P.S: We cannot apply any service pack for SQL Server 2005 at the moment. Sorry abt it. If you have any specific hotfix for DTExec (without affecting SQL Server) then we can decide.

As a burgeoning SQL developer I have never really understood the need for SQL Server / Enterprise Manager to show us the whole dbo.Table name thing. What is dbo, and why do we need to know deal with it?With that said, in my SQL 2005 Express database all of my project tables for my project management demo were named guard.pgUsers for example and not dbo.pgUsers.How come? Why did they get named different on their own?

I'm have a stored procedure that iterates through a list of numbers and adds an item for each number (user id) some of these ids are duplicates which is fine even necessary for the first part of my query but for the last I need to ensure that no duplicates id's are passed to the stored procedure, in this case called 'spInsertForBackupNote'. I can't use SUBSTRING command because the length of this field will change with every row.
Is there a way I can tell it to truncate past or prior to the comma or spaces?

I'm working on an ASP.NET with a SQL server for database. Some of the tables, for example, contain information such as different types of Fabrics (silk, cotton, etc..) . I'd like to have this table localizable (English and French for instance). Is this possible ? Is there an equivalent of resource files in SQL server ?
Or do I have to do this manually ? (have 2 separate fields in the table for those 2 locales)

The error was: Error converting data type char to int.
The stored procedure in sql server was as follows

This is strange because this code worked perfectly when connecting to Access and when I used oledb.
So how is it the code's problem? Is the stored procedure causing the error or the code. Can someone please help. thanks.

It require me to know that what category is currently belong to certain people(people_table: category_table1 to Many)However, when i use the select statement in stored proc, it return a set of result, not a scalar , therefore, i cannot use the variable to hold it. I have a query stack that uses local variables that I declare & set at the top. That stack takes a minute & runs the processor at 100%. If I substitute actual values in place of the variables the stack runs in 10 seconds! Why!?.. I need it to run that fast with variables!

I found a very strange problem with the OLE DB connection in SSIS package though.
What happened was when I set the connection type to be OLE DB, whenever I declare a package variable it still gives me the error saying: please declare the scalar variable.
Once I changed the connection type to be ADO.NET, then it works fine.
Why is that? Anything wrong with OLE DB connection?
Looking forward to hearing from you for any ideas on it.

There can be many suppliers to each article, and therefore there is a field that tells you if this supplier is the main supplier for the article, this field is called "arthuvudavt". However, you aren't forced to use this field in the table.
As a alternative you can use priority. Each supplier has given priority where
0 means "most preferred" and any other means "less preferred"
What I want to do is to pick the right supplier for a given article in one SQL-statement regardless of if you choose to use the priority or if you choose to use the main supplier field.
Abbreviated description of the table, called AL.

In the above case, I'd like the statement to return supplier 10202 for article A-10 (the one that has the arthuvudavt checked), and
only one row for B-10, which one doesn't really matter, since someone has been making a fault here, this should not happen, but my SQL-statement should break because of this scenario. For C-10 supplier 10303 should be returned.
Is there any way this could be done?
The reason I ask is that I try to learn new ways of solving things, and this problem was kind'a easily solved using variables, but I was wondering if it was possible to do it without it.

1) I have the Beta Preview of Roger Wolter's book on the subject. Has anything major changed from the beta version to the full version (of the book as well as the product)?
2) I want to build a front-end that queues requests for processing that is ultimately done by a standalone console application. The console app knows nothing about SQL Server 2005, so the database will have to fork/execute this app, pass it arguments on its command line, and pick up the result (written to either standard output or standard error) when it finishes. Is this possible with Service Broker? If so, how?

I understand that because background jobs may be short lived it is not quite easy to view or capture them.

I would like to know how can I put some static text in the background of my report.
I thought that it should be as easy as placing textbox, fillling it with text value and setting ZIndex. Everything is OK in ReportViewer control and when I save rendered report as PDF file (text is behind other fields, for example behind table). But when I save my report in Excel format (*.xls) text is placed below other objects, not behind them as it should be.
Any suggestions?

We are developing a embedded system based on Windows CE 5 and SQL Server CE 3 in C++ where we need to do merge replication in background while the front end application still need to perform operations on the database. A solution would be to run the merge replication on a separate thread while the application thread still can access the database to do inserts and updates. I have been researching if it is possible to access the database with queries during a merge replication, but I can not find an answere. Does anyone have experience of this and generally know if it is possible to implement with SQL Server CE 3 in the native API?

I have a strong SQL background, but have never worked on MS SQL 2000. I have a deadline to create a file by the end of the week.
I need to extract data from a table within one of the data files on our server. I need to then output that data into a text format and place it into a folder under the C: Drive.
I have been able to create my SQL statements using the Query Analyzer and have had success in generating the results into a crude text file using the Print Statement with a variable that contains the concatenated data fields and the results to file option. Now that the SQL produces the data required, I need to know how to automate the SQL to run every night and how to achieve the "results to file" when executing the SQL.
I did figure out somewhat how to schedule a job, however I am unsure if in the Command box for the step I can just enter my SQL Text. In addition, I could not find any way to indicate where I want the results to go.
Any thing from suggestions of what to read to outright step by step directions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm calling a PHP page that run a stored procedure. The SP contains a xp_cmdshell command that runs a DTS package. This DTS package is HUGE and will take many hours to import tables from an Oracle database to SQL Server. But I don't want my PHP page to "hang" in the process...
How can I execute my PHP page and refresh it every 30 seconds to see if the importation is done ? In my actual code, I create a "start_file.txt" when I begin the importation and a "end_file.txt" when it's done. I want to refresh every 30 seconds to see if the "end_file.txt" is created and display a "Importation Done!" message.
To be able to do that, I need the DTS Package to run in the background of the web server, or asynchronously from my PHP page.
Simple (stupid) question: is it possible to create a SP to call my main SP so it will run independently ??
