Problem Setting Package Properties From Dtexecui

May 17, 2007

I want to input a parameter to my package. I have a variable, and I tried changing its value from DTExecUI.

I did everything as mentioned in http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2007/03/13/SSIS_3A00_-Property-Paths-syntax.aspx but I still get an error -

Could not set "Package.Variables[User::var_input_step_Name].Properties[Value]" value to "RAW".

The variable was originally read from a XML config file. I stored the package to MSDB. I then ran dtexecui, selected my msdb package, and in Set Values, I entered property path and value. I also tried removing the "", and I even deleted the XML configuration. Still the same error.

What am I doing wrong? Any Package Settings to make?

TIA

How To Continue Package Execution During Error?

Jun 5, 2006

We have a package that loads the data from several excel files into database in a forloop.

Everything works files until the package hits the bad file.

My goal is to continue the loop to process the rest of the files by skipping the bad file and error. In each task OnError I am creating custom error message to send an error/ sucess summary email out at end of the process.

How can force the for loop to continue when there is an error?

Is there any way to reset the errors?

Thanks

SSIS Package Execution Error

Jul 24, 2006

While executing the SSIS package from visial studio it is running. If we execute from Integration services - - -> stored packages - - - -> msdb - - - -package name, the package gets executed.

But when scheduled through jobs it gives the following error in history

"Execution as user. <user name > The command line parameters are invalid. the step failed"

command line looks like this "

/DTS "MSDBMaintenance PlansPackage1-HYUNDAI" /SERVER tvmwindev02 /CONNECTION "10.10.1.52.upsframis";"Data Source=10.10.1.52;Initial Catalog=upsframis;Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;" /CONNECTION DestinationConnectionOLEDB;"Data Source=mscoe.db.ustri.com;Initial Catalog=HISNA_POC;Provider=SQLOLEDB;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=false;" /CONNECTION "sample.db2test";"Data Source=sample;User ID=db2test;Provider=IBMDADB2.1;Location=10.10.1.55;" /CONNECTION SourceConnectionOLEDB;"Data Source=SAMPLE;User ID=db2test;Provider=IBMDADB2.1;Persist Security Info=True;Location=10.10.1.55;Extended Properties="""";" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF

"

What could be the reason ?

XML Parsing Error In Package Execution

Jun 8, 2007

I have a package that opens an XML file and stores the XML to a variable. Then the package executes a stored procedure passing the variable containing the XML data. This package had been working perfectly until I applied service pack 2 to SQL Server. Now when I execute the package I get an error when the stored procedure attempts to exeucte. The error is: "XML parsing: line 615, character 11, illegal xml character". The strange thing is that I can run profiler and copy out the command that is being executed and paste it into a query window and it exeuctes successfully in the query window. So does anyone know what changed with service pack two that is causing this problem and/or how to resolve it?

The position that the error message is referring to is the last character in the xml variable that the package is passing to the stored procedure. What I find strange is that it throws an error when called from the package but not when executed in the query window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is a copy of the command from profiler that is throwing the error:

exec sp_executesql N'EXEC dbo.ABF_UpdateBillerList @P1, @P2',N'@P1 nvarchar(max),@P2 datetime',N'<billers>

Execute Package Utility

Oct 11, 2006

My SSIS package carries out one data flow task after another e.g.

truncate tables

Copy table 1

cleanup tables

When using the execute package utility in SSMS to run the package , the data flow tasks are listed alphabetically, so it reads:

cleanup tables

Copy table 1

truncate tables

Can I change this so the data flow tasks are listed in the logical order I have specified them in the package as it makes it difficult to work out which step the package is at. And while I'm at it, it keeps telling me every separate task's elapsed time is zero when it's finished. It records the start and end time ok, but it can't seem to work out the elapsed time?!

Thanks

Execute Package Utility Issue

Oct 22, 2007

I created a package within BIDS which tests successful. However when saved into MSDB and I execute the package, the package completes without any issues however doesn't work.

All the package is doing is a simple backup and copy operation but fails without any errors within the Execute Package Utility.

Has anyone seen this issue before?

Deployment Utility Or Import Package?

Jul 9, 2007

In reference to the question raised in this thread
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1460591&SiteID=1

Since I'm not able to create a deployment utility, when a config file is shared among multiple packages and also I cannot get the permission from Sys Admins to use Env. Variables I'm struck.

Now I'm thinking of importing the package to Sql Server from the file system. Is there any caveats in this approach? especially regarding the config files?

[edit]
Also, do I need any special permissions to view the Integeration Services node in Management Studio? We are using Integerated Authentication, neither do I'm able to run sp_start_job sp in the msdb database.

Execution Of Child Package From Parent Package In Sql Server 2005 Integration Services

May 21, 2007

Hi,

I created a package which passes some infornmations( through parameters) to its child package.

I need to do some processing in parent package based on execution status of child package.i.e.

if child fails then some operation and if child succeeds then other operation.

To determine the status of execution of child package I am using two differnt constraint ..one constraint is having value "Success" and other having value "Failure".

My problem is that when child packge is executed successfully the constraint with value = "Success" works properly but when child fails the constraint with value "Failure" does not work.

Execute Package Utility Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close

Jul 11, 2007

I'm a SQL Server 2000 user trying to get my head around v2005, in particular the changes from DTS to Integration Services.

I've build a few packages in BIDS and they work fine there, but saving them to either the file system or MSDB locations and running them in Management Studio results in:

Execute Package Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If I click on the debug button, I get this:

An unhandled exception ('System.IO.FileNotFoundException') occurred in DTExecUI.exe [404].

I've searched the Internet and found a few people who has also experienced this, but not received any answers.

Is there a kind guru out there with some idea of what is going on? Preferably something that doesn't involve re-installing, because the database has already been configured for our Blackberry users and I can't re-do it now.

How To Use Deployment Utility Using A Single Package Configuration File

Jan 22, 2007

Hi,

We are trying to create a deployment utility for a solution. The issue we are facing is, we are using a single package configuration file and when we try to build the solution to create the deployment utility, the build process fails saying that the package configuration file already exists. THe reason for this is while trying to build, the utility copies the configation fiel for the packages, it copies for one, but for the second onward, when it tries to copies, it fails saying the file already exists.

Any idea how to overcome this, or else any suggestions how to perform the similar steps to create a deployment utility for a solution in which the packages share a single package configuration file.

Any suggestion would be really appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

SSIS Deployment Utility - Package Configurations Doesnt Show Up??

Jan 24, 2007

Hi:

After moving my deployment folder to the Target Server, I run the Installation Wizard. As I move next, I am missing the window which is supposed to allow me to set package config values as stated in MSDN:

"If the package includes configurations, you can edit updatable configurations by updating values in the Value list on the Configure Packages page."

Source: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141802.aspx

Does anyone know why I am not seeing it? In my deployment bundle which I have moved over has currently 3 files:

1) SSIS Deployment Manifest

2) SSIS Package

3) SSIS Config File

Again, I double click on SSIS Deployment Manifest, and it starts fine. I go thru the steps for File System Deployment, and then it prompts for installation folder path. After that, it takes me directly to validation. Why is it not showing me the Configure Packages Page as described in the MSDN Documentation. Please advise. Thanks.

Dim stream As FileStream = File.OpenWrite(fileName)
stream.Write(results, 0, results.Length)
stream.Close()

End Sub

'End of script

As you can see, right now I've got all 5 report parameters hard-coded.

Here is the command line that I'm using as well as the error that I receive:

rs.exe -i c:RunReport.rss -s http://localhost/reportserver -t
Unhandled exception: The value of parameter 'Parameters' is not valid. Check the documentation for information about valid values.

Any insight that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

This is a production server, so a solution involving as little disturbance to it's current state would be preferrable.

DTS Package Execution - When Is It Done?

Oct 30, 2000

I wrote a stored procedure that calls a DTS package that imports a file into a SQL Server table, then executes some commands on that table. How can I tell that the DTS package has completed, so that I can continue with the next command? Here is my code:

-- Run the DTS package
EXEC @Result = msdb..sp_start_job @job_name = 'MyJob'
WAITFOR DELAY '00:00:02'

-- Call the table that the package created
SELECT * FROM <imported_table> WHERE ...

I had to insert a WAITFOR statement to make this work. Any other suggestions as to how to know when to continue?

Thank you.

Package Execution ...

Feb 11, 2008

Hi Friends,

I need help from you.
I am working on SSIS packages for ETL purpose.
The version of SQL Server i am using is SQL Server 2005.

In Brief , the working of current ETL is as follows.

In ODS database i have 2 tables i.e Table_A & Table_B which gets loaded from another 2 staging tables A & B.
And using this 2 tables data will be loaded into a target table i.e Trg_A.

The ETL packages are executed by stored procedures by creating a job within the stored procedure.

The loading of the trg table is little tricky.
Before that loading of Table_A is implemented in a single SSIS package.
and loading of Table_B is been implemented in another SSIS package.

In the trg table there are two columns which will be getting updated as and when each table is loaded.
so for the first time if i run the package which is resposible for loading Table_A, it loads values into Table_A and once done it will updates (col1) in the target table.

Once after the complete of the execution of Package1.
Now i will kick off the second ssis package which loads the data into Table_B and updates the trg table's columns (col2).

Now the actual problem what i am facing is:

For loading Table_A and updating the col1 in Trg table i will be receving more than 5 excel file every month on weekly basis.
I cannot even gather all the files and run using a For-Loop counter.
So presently i am loading data excel file per week .

Similarly loading of table_B.

For a week if i am executing both the packages which loads the Table_A and updates the Trg(col1) and Table_B and updates Trg(col2), then i am getting a Deadlock Error and the entire ETL is getting messed up.

Now my requirement is , Eventhough the 2 packages are run in parallel , there could certain milli seconds time difference while start of the execution in Job Monitor.
I need to implement a Queing Mechanism which takes care of running the packages in a sequential manner rather than in parallel. i .e i need to ensure only one SSIS package is running in Job Monitor. Only after successful execution of either one the package, then only the second package should start its execution.

If we can implement such a queing mechanism , then my problem is solvedl.

I need some suggestions on this regard in implementing the Queing mechanism in a programatic approach using SQL Server Job Related MetaData Tables.
or else is there in server parameter or initialization parameters which can be set at Database level which suffice my requirement.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for sincere comments on this regards.

Thanks in advance.

Taming The UI In DTexecUI

Is there an option(s) that will allow me to reduce the amount of output to the Package Execution Progress window? My package has a number of steps, but trying to keep track of progress is difficult at best given the deluge of messages this window displays.

I would prefer output similar to the SQL Import/Export wizard, which shows executing tasks on a single line with a status and a link to any error messages off to the side. Is this available somehow, or do I have to build it myself?

Thanks, any help appreciated.

Execute Package Utility / Set Values / How To Set Property Path And Values

Feb 4, 2008

Hi
I have one problem in SSIS for passing Variable Values while executing Package. I'm giving in details as below:

I opened Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Made Connection to Integration Services
To Execute Package I Right Clicked and Click on Run Package
Then I Clicked on Execute and package was executed successfully.

Problem is that if I try to Set Values then Package through Error
DTExec: Could not set ProcessMode value to M.

Basically I could not understand in which format I should pass the Variables.
What I tried is listed below:

ProcessMode;M
Package.Variables[User:rocessMode].Value;M
Package.Variables[ProcessMode].Value;M
But every time I got errors.

And then I tried from Command Line
DTEXEC /DTS "MSDBLoad_Order" /SERVER SERVERNAME /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING V /SET Package.Variables[ProcessMode].Value;M

First time Process run successfully. And it has changed the ProcessMode to M also. But after that it was also not changing the ProcessMode Value to M.

Please help in regarding. I tried a lot from Site examples also, but could not get proper solution.

Thanks in advance
