From MS SQL Server Management Studio 2005, I register and connect to MS SQL 2000 (SP4) running on another server. I can see the list of 2000 DTS packages on the other server, but when I try to open them I first get:
Error Source : Microsoft Data Transfformation Services (DTS) Package
Error Description : The DTS host failed to load or save the package properly.
I click the OK button and get:
The selected package cannot be opened. The DTS Desiger has been closed.
I click this OK button and get to now famous:
SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages. Install the special Web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" to use this feature. (Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI)
I have already been to the Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - November 2005 page and installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components and the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components.
Now, the DTS Designer does not close. It stays open. I can see inside the package, but all I see are the transformation lines and the precedence lines. The icons are invisable. If I click on the invisable icons, at the end of the lines, an icon appears. This is not a normal icon. It looks like little windows with a blue border and title bar. Nothing I've seen before. Oh it gets better. If I now double-click the icons, the properties window appear as normal. Looks good... I don't need to change anything. I then press the OK button and get the Task references, like I modified the connection. I do not clear the trasformation. I just click the OK and like magic the connection icon looks at it should. This works on everthing I've tried, except for Execute SQL Task icons. I can save it, but not as the save name. I can open the new saved package. It look and works fine.
I am running a package on a 64-bit server using the 32-bit dtexec. It contains an embedded Execute DTS 2000 package. I deployed the package to the server using the sa account. I set up a SQL Agent job that runs under an account that should have complete admin privileges. The network guys tell me that Legacy components have been installed (although I believe that shouldn't be necessary because SSIS is installed). This is SQL Server 2005, SP2.
When I execute this job, I receive this error message:

I have a "Execute DTS Package 2000 " task in SSIS. The SQL 2000 DTS has one task which precedence is "completion". Using SQL2000 it works properly, but when I invoke it from SSIS it doesn€™t respect the precedence. So, when the task above fails it ends the DTS execution.
Is it possible to configure the task to respect the precedences?
I've had a DTS Package scheduled to run every morning since June last year, however on Monday and again this morning, the DTS package has failed on two of its steps. This DTS package runs on SQL Server 2000 and the server is a Windows 2000 Server.
Basically, the DTS Package steps that fail are populating a "cache" table from a "live" table and then performing Inserts / Updates on the "live" table from a CSV file depending upon whether data exists in the "cache" table and whether the CSV file contains an "Insert" or "Update" flag. The live table has just over 800,000 rows of data and our nightly CSV extract, containing both inserts and updates, has about 6000 rows.
The error / failure has only happened in the last two days and I'm not too sure if there's any "timeout" feature in DTS and if there is, how I can modify it, or whether this may be something to do with long transactions or temp dbspace running out.
The time that the DTS package runs was modified last week to run two hours earlier (03:00 instead of 05:00) and has ran okay for a few days. I don't know whether this change is a red herring, as I have checked other DTS packages on the machine and none appear to run at the same time.
Here's the message from the third step in the DTS Package (second one that's failing).

Any help is greatly appreciated as I've searched these forums and the web and can't really find any answers.
I had just installed SQL 2005 dev on my laptop and got an error message when I tried to create a package using the BI IDE. I received the same error using VS2005 IDE. But the project was created regardless without any packages. When I tried to create a new package in the project, I received the same error again, but with an option to view the error details.
Following is the text of the error details:
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio ------------------------------
I have a for each loop that populates from a set of flat files into a Sql Server table, I run the Flat file Import via a dts package embedded into Execute DTS 2000 Task. I want to pass the Sourcefile Name that is fetched by the For Each Loop to assign it Global Variable in DTS. how this can be made ?
I have successfully created a SSIS package which execute a DTS 2000 package and with no problem to execute the task. But I failed to schedule this package. I was not success in setting the logging. When running the package in command line:
dtexec file "C:Documents and SettingslyangMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsTraingDTSTraingDTSDTSTraining.dtsx"

I have a big problem and i'm not able to find any hint on the Network.
I have a window2000 pc, VS2005,II5 and SQLServer 2005(dev edition)
I created an SSIS Package (query to DB and the result is loaded into an Excel file) that works fine.
I imported the dtsx file inside my "Stored Packages".
I would like to load and run the package programmatically on a Remote Scenario using the web services.
I created a solution with web service and web page that invoke the web service.
When my code execute: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application.LoadFromDtsServer(packagePath, ".", Nothing)
I got the Error: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DtsRuntimeException: The package failed to load due to error 0xC0011008 "Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information can be stored.". This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails.
The error message doesn't help so much and there is nothing on the www to give me and advice....
I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database. The design of the package is as follows First step: It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated.
Second step: The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'. For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists. Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated. When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour.
The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together. But if its a problem of query used in the view, and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time. Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server. If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem. Please suggest... Thanks in advance
My Server having DTS package even Job failing saying "Error string: The specified DTS Package ('Name = 'ERP_Mater_Encript_Data_Move'; ID.VersionID = {[not specified]}.{T0I37w32-AB51-1SA4-9495-AcE6SSS4a321}') does not exist"
I have developed an SSIS package for ETL purpose. I am invoking the SSIS package through .Net console application by referencing the ManagedDTS Assembly. I am able to execute the package in Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition and it runs fine till completion.
But when i try to execute the packahe in Sql Server 2005 Standard edition, by invoking the package through .Net console application the status of the package is failure.
Can any one help me how to over come this problem.
While Creating a script task in Control Flow, I am getting "Package Validation Error". Here is the complete message:
Error at Validate File and Load Data: The task is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Task Editor by clicking Design Script button to cause binary code to be generated. (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
As mentioned in the message, I opened the script IDE and added the code I need. When I close the VSA IDE, package designer displays the same error message.
The worst part of whole story is that if I close the package designer and reopen it, I find that all the code I wrote in the script task has been deleted by the package designer. This is not at all acceptable as I saved the package the and still lost all my work. I did all the coding from scratch for that task.
Please respond if anyone faced similar problem.
Thanks in advance!

I am having problems executing a child package from a parent package using the Execute Package Task. I am attempting to run the master package through a SQL Server Agent job.
The SQL Server Agent job is owned by sa. The step that runs the parent package is configured to load the package from the SSIS Package Store on the same server that the job is running.
I have the Execute Package Task configured as follows:
Location: SQL Server ExecuteOutOfProcess: True Connecting as a SQL Server login (let's say TestEtl)
I have added the db_dtsoperator database role to both the TestEtl login and the login that SQL Server Agent connects through. I have also configured the child package's reader role to include db_dtsoperator. Per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms141053.aspx, this should allow these logins to run the child package.
I have enabled logging of all events in both the parent and child packages. I see the following in the logs when the Execute Package Task executes (omitted portions unrelated to the execution of the child package task):

I am sure that what I am doing is quite common, and I obviously have something misconfigured somewhere - but I'm not sure what my misconfiguration is. Can anyone enlighten me?
I cannot execute a package by using Execute Package task. I supplied sa credentials to connection manager, and it shows the list of Packages on SQL Server but when running the task it says
Error 0xC0202009 while preparing to load the package. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x%1!8.8X!.
I am running dts in Sql Server 2005 management studio from Management, Legacy and data Transformation Services.
Once the dts has run, I get this error message "Error Source : Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package Error Description : Error accessing Windows Event Log."
I have a SSIS package that reads data from a dump table, runs a custom script that takes date data and converts it to the correct format or nulls and formats amt fields to currency, then inserts it to a new table. The new table redirects insert errors. This process worked fine until about 3 weeks ago. I am processing just under 6 million rows, with 460,000 or so insert errors that did give error column and code.
Now, I am getting 1.5 million errors. and nothing has changed, to my knowledge. I receive the following information.
Error Code -1071607685 Error Column 0 Error Desc No status is available.
The only thing I can find for the above error code is
DTS_E_OLEDBDESTINATIONADAPTERSTATIC_UNAVAILABLE
To add to the confusion, I can not see any errors in the data written to the error table. It appears that after a certain point is reached in the processing, everything, or most records, error out.
I am running a parent SSIS package (running sp2, 9.0.3042) that calls several child packages.
On our development server, we now cannot run this because we get 1 or more of these errors:
"Error 0x80004003 while preparing to load the package. Invalid pointer . " "Error 0xC0011008 while preparing to load the package. Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information can be stored. . "
It is not occuring on the same packages. It varies every time it is run.
I can run every one of the child packages individually, using the same login ID that the parent is executed under.
The parent package works fine on my local machine and other servers running the same version of SSIS. Just not on this server.
I've been asked to create a DTS package that will execute 2 other DTS packages (yeah, I know... personally I want to write a sp for it *shrug*) and send an e-mail out reporting a failure and failure details.
So I have a couple of questions for you; How do I pick up the error number (and description?) from a failed DTS and pass it to my sendmail task? Is it possible to send anything other than plain text e-mails? Can I change the e-mail priority to "high"?
I have changed a legacy dts 2000 package. It resides on a sql 2005 server. How do I schedule it? That option doesn't look like it is available for legacy 2000 dts packages.
I am running a DTS package that runs a T-SQL statement and every once and a while I get the following error: 2007-11-19 01:40:20.16 spid54 Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0 2007-11-19 01:40:20.16 spid54 SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 54 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. I am looking for a way to execute an SSIS package as the next step in the SQL 2000 Agent, with the first step being replication. Can I reference dtexec.exe on the SSIS box to execute the package located in the file system?
I have a bundling package that runs about 20 other packages. It has been working fine for a while but a couple of days ago it fail with the following message,
Error 0x800706BE while loading package file "D:PackagesToradSales.dtsx". The remote procedure call failed.
I´m running the SSIS packages in an 64-bit environment.
Has anyone been able to run a DTS package from DOS. When I execute the dtsrun command it fires the process off in another Dos session and quickly closes. I know that SQL 7.0 worked ok. When it runs from dos it tell you when each step runs successfully or fails. I am Running Windows 2000 Server SP2 and SQL 2000 SP1. So the question is, is there any way to run the dtsrun utility from dos so you can see what is going on?
Hi All, My name is kanishk. I am facing some issue in calling the DTS package from Visual Basic code. The brief history of issue is : We have a application which uses Ms-Access as front end and MS-Sql server 2000 as backend. Perviously we has MS-Access 97 version and MS-Sql 2000 .In this comination the DTS package was working fine. Now We have changes the fornt end to MS-Access 2002. Here the DTS package is not working .
Can you please help me out to get the proper syntax to call the DTS package from VB code.
I've tried several different possibilities but don't have enough basicunderstanding of the ownerships and permissions that are involved soI'm looking for someone to explain what is required:I created a DTS package that includes a drop table, create table, anddata transformation task. Originally, my owner was local to the pcworkstation with administrator priveleges. When I executed thepackage on demand (manually, not scheduled), it runs just fine. Noerrors. When I schedule the package to run at a scheduled day/time,it fails with an access is denied message.I originally was using the sql admin user and password in theconnection but the view job history kept referencing "Executed asuser: sqlservernameSYSTEM...." and errored with an access is deniedmessage. Where did it get the SYSTEM user from since my connectionused the sql admin user in my DTS package? Do I need to determine howto get the sql admin user or should the SYSTEM user really have to runthis scheduled job? How do I get the sql admin user to show as the"executed as user"?I created another admin user to see if it had someone to do with thesql admin account but I got similar results. I tried creating thepackage as an NT domain user but got similar results.I'm sure it has something to do with permissions and ownerships but Ireally don't have a clear understanding of how it was intended towork.Any advise you can give is greatly appreciated. I've read alot ofpostings and I'm still not clear on the requirements.
Dear friends, can we do this? converting a package made in ssis 2005 to dts packages of 2000? or we can somehow make the same working on sql server 2000? any ideas?
We just did an in-place upgrade from sql2000EE to sql2005EE and I installed the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer componets but I don't see the option to schedule a package.
I am not sure where to ask this question. So I figured here may be ok
I have several DTS 2000 packages and I have SQL 2005 installed on my local machine. However the rest of the company is still using SQL 2000 (for now). So I do not want to convert them to ssis yet. One of the things we just did to the packages is make all flat files use \localhost and any servers point to (local). Now in ssis this works fine but using the DTS 2000 package designer it does not like either of these at all. The reason we wanted to do this is so when we switch out servers there is no changes to our DTS packages.
Hi, I've created an SSIS package to process cubes on Analysis Services 2005. This works fine.
Now I wish to use the same package to run Cubes on Analysis 2000. I have changed My connection manager to point to this DB. When I test connection it works fine.
The problem lies, when I try to edit the Analysis Service Processing Task. I get an error message saying: "A connection cannot be made-Make sure the server is running".
I can get into Analysis Manager ok, and see the database there.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction here?
I'm stuck with this and I haven't idea how to solve it. I'm trying to migrate a dts 2000 package from BIDS and I obtain this message:
This wizard will close because it encountered the following error:
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index (mscorlib)
I'm going to Migrate DTS 2000 Package select my current sql2k production server (it has almost 600 dts although I think that is not any problem at all)
Wizard recognize without problems my server and then I put a folder for save them but on the next step appears the aforementioned message.
I´m currently developing an import/export package in SSIS. I recently realized that this package is supposed to be run on a SQL Server 2000 instance, and I have no clue if this will work... I´m pretty new to SQL Server, but I now that DTS from 2000 ws replaced by SSIS in 2005, and the command-line dtsrun replaced by dtexec.
So my question: Will I be able to run a SSIS package on SQL Server 2000, and how would I do that?
