I have seen this problem posted several times and not seen an applicable solution yet. No offense, the suggestions may have been good for those scenarios, but not this one.
Several (at least 4) Excel Spreadsheets come from a vendor that I need to import to a table. They are uploaded via web to a directory so they can be imported by a scheduled DTS package.
Darren Green's site gave me some good info on how to get this far, btw.
But I cannot overcome the NULL-ifying of Column Headers for Numeric fields when the spreadsheet is imported.
Named ranges, along with any sort of spreadsheet editing is too time consuming.
And since they come from a vendor, having them come to us with the required items in place is not possible.
Even though it seems easy enough, it's a toughy.
Any help would be rewarded with respect and admiration.

I have a excel sheet with some data and blank columns. I have a ssis package using to import data from excel to sql table. For blank excel columns it is importing as null instead i want to show them as '0'. If data comes in it should update the data.
I am trying to import an xlsx spreadsheet into a sql 2008 r2 database using the SSMS Import Wizard. When pointed to the spreadsheet ("choose a data source") the Import Wizard returns this error:
"The operation could not be completed" The Microsoft ACE.OLEDB.12.0 provider is not registered on the local machine (System.Data)
How can I address that issue? (e.g. Where is this provider and how do I install it?)
I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.
l've some excel files controlled by Vendor which changing frequently. The only thing does not change is the header name of each column.
So my question is, is there any way to create a new table based on the excel file selected including the column name in SSIS? So that l can use the data reader as source to select those columns l am interested on and start the integration.

I'm importing a multi tab spreadsheet using Import wizard, which I understand to use the same internals as SSIS. The total number of columns in the spread sheet will be over 500. I am trying to import some csv files into a table. Some of the values are left blank and are supposed to be interpret as null. However, when I try to use the import wizard (via SQL Server Management Studio), the import process errors out. The fields on the table allows null values.
How do I specify the import wizard to interpret blank fields in flat files to be null? It was mentioned somewhere that there might be a checkbox indicating that I can preserve the null values, but I can't find the option anywhere.
Question: Why would I not be able to import an Access 97 table inwhich some records have null values in fields that allow null values?Wouldn't the table's design be imported first, bringing the columns'"allow nulls" attribute with it?I'm dealing with both text and numeric columns. The TransformData Task thinks that the Col 1 is of nvarchar(255) but after the tranfer all values in Col1 is NULL. How can I convert a nvarchar to Char or varchar
I'm needing to import a .csv file into a SQL database. This needs to be done through automation so I need the DOS commands, if any. Or if someone knows a better way, feel free to enlighten me.
I've tried looking in books online for SQL server but haven't had much luck.
I've been asked to create an automated DTS import which is to take place each and every evening. The import routine is to import data into an SQL table from an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is not massively complicated though is does contain formulas and calculations. When using the DTS Wizard: "Choose Data Sourse" Data Source = Microsoft Excel 97-2000 I then browse to the file name.
"Choose Destination" I select the Server name and Database to import into.
"Specify Table Copy or Query" I select 'Use a query to specify the data transfer' then click Next.
I then click on the query builder and here's where I get stuck. The Source tables panel contains many rows and when expanded they all contain the same thing (field headings in the Excel spreadsheet).
I'm totally stuck here - can anyone help? :confused:

My database has a table called accounts with fields acc_g and acc_n. I need to enter the values from the excel into the table. I tried doing it but SSIS also tries to insert the rows following the last line in excel and returns nulls and the table does't allow null values. How can i resolve it?
I am trying to import data from an excel spreadsheet. The file comes from a client and sometimes it may not have any data, that is, it will be blank. It seems that the Excel Source in SSIS does not like empty files, is there any way around this? I suppose I can check to see if it is empty and abort the import process but I am not sure how to do this. Any other ideas on how to get around this??

Hello,I am trying to import a CSV file into my SQL Server database, this file was originally generated by another database table (on another server) with the same structure, the table contains two columns of real datatype with Allow Null Value setto true for those columns, the CSV file contains the value NULL for theses columns, I am facing a problem when importing this file. This may be because DTS tries to represent values as strings then to convert them to real datatype which results in transforming the value "NULL" to real, I receive an error message saying.Error during Transformation 'DirectCopyXform' for Row number 1. Hi, I've a question about importing Oracle data and some fields are null. I get an error 'Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type'. When i look in preview query result, via OLE db Source editor > Preview, this field contains '<value too big to display>'.
I have to import data from Excel to SQL Server using SSIS. My fields in sql don't take null values however for some reason i don't understand I see that the SSIS is also trying to import null rows into the database. For example I have the following excel file: Name Postcode State XXX 123 ON YXX 345 IO
The rows following the last line are all blank but when I preview the Excel Source data flow task it returns the empty rows as null and therfore, my package fails as db fields don't accept null values.
How can I prevent SSIS from taking null rows? Can I maybe write a query in SSIS to say only to take rows where postcode<>null ?

Hi, i'm new to SSIS and trying to import some csv files (comma delimited) into SQL Server. A NULL value for a CHAR column is correctly regonized as NULl in SQL Server, but a NULL value for of a mapping to a VARCHAR column in SQL Server is not recognized correctly and i get the value "'NULL'" in SQL Server (including the single comma.
Sample:
CSV file contains columns A and B. A and B contains the Text NULL. Column A is mapped to a CHAR field, and column B is mapped to a VARCHAR field in SQL Server. After the import, SQL has the following value: A = NULL as NULL, B 'NULL' as text.
Hi, I'm building a web application in VB.NET 1.1 where users will upload Excel files at this webpage and the web application will transfer the data from the uploaded Excel file into MS SQL 2000. There are around 600-700 records and about 56 columns in the Excel file which is to be uploaded daily. There will be a few different files which I need to implement for as well. I've sourced for and tried alot of methods. But either they can't satisfy my requirements or they just can't simply work. - Most simple and direct way I've tried is creating a oledb connection to the Excel file in the following codes...
