DTS File Created After Stored Proc Executed Now What?

Apr 11, 2005

I'm trying to fire a DTS package through a stored procedure.

After running my one stored procedure I got my DTS file to create just fine.  However after this point I'm stuck...I can't do anything else with this file and I need to update data with it.

How would I use the DTS file to update my data.

Thanks,

Indexing Results Of Stored Proc (or New Table Created By One)

Jul 20, 2005

Hi,I am using data from multiple databases and/or queries. It would greatlysimplify and speed things up if I could use CONTAINS in processing theresults. However, "CONTAINS" requires the data to be indexed. Due to theamount of processing, I think it would be faster even if I had to re-indexevery time.For example, I would like to do something like this (simplified toillustrate the desired functionality... This should show all of the wordsfrom one table that are not contained in their current or inflectional formswithin another table):SELECT W1.ContentFROM(SELECT Word AS ContentFROM MyTable) W1LEFT OUTER JOIN(SELECT Phrase AS ContentFROM MyOtherTable) W2ON W2.Content CONTAINS(INFLECTIONAL, W1.Content)WHERE W2.Content IS NULLCan the results of a procedure be indexed? If not, can I drop the resultsinto a new table and trigger an automatic index of it, pausing the procedureuntil the indexing is done?Or, it there another way?Thanks!

Differentiate Between Whether Stored Procedure A Is Executed Inside Query Analyzer Or Executed Inside System Application Itself.

May 26, 2008

Just wonder whether is there any indicator or system parameters that can indicate whether stored procedure A is executed inside query analyzer or executed inside application itself so that if execution is done inside query analyzer then i can block it from being executed/retrieve sensitive data from it?

What i'm want to do is to block someone executing stored procedure using query analyzer and retrieve its sensitive results.
Stored procedure A has been granted execution for public user but inside application, it will prompt access denied message if particular user has no rights to use system although knew public user name and password. Because there is second layer of user validation inside system application.

However inside query analyzer, there is no way control execution of stored procedure A it as user knew the public user name and password.

Looking forward for replies from expert here. Thanks in advance.

Note: Hope my explaination here clearly describe my current problems.

Capture Stored Proc Output To File

Jan 8, 2001

I am running a stored proc that does many updates. I want to capture the results of the stored proc in a text file. Results returned such as, 18 rows affected (the stuff that shows in results pane of query analyzer). Do I have to run the stored proc in batch mode to do this and capture via the output file in OSQL? I also want to capture error messages in case the stored proc aborts in the middle.

I am running SQL Server 7.0 SP2 on Win2K. I am running the stored proc in a DTS package.

Thanks.

Can You Trace Into A Stored Proc? Also Does RAISERROR Terminate The Stored Proc Execution.

Feb 13, 2008

I am working with a large application and am trying to track down a bug. I believe an error that occurs in the stored procedure isbubbling back up to the application and is causing the application not to run. Don't ask why, but we do not have some of the sourcecode that was used to build the application, so I am not able to trace into the code.
So basically I want to examine the stored procedure. If I run the stored procedure through Query Analyzer, I get the following error message:
Msg 2758, Level 16, State 1, Procedure GetPortalSettings, Line 74RAISERROR could not locate entry for error 60002 in sysmessages.
(1 row(s) affected)
(1 row(s) affected)
I don't know if the error message is sufficient enough to cause the application from not running? Does anyone know? If the RAISERROR occursmdiway through the stored procedure, does the stored procedure terminate execution?
Also, Is there a way to trace into a stored procedure through Query Analyzer?
-------------------------------------------As a side note, below is a small portion of my stored proc where the error is being raised:
SELECT  @PortalPermissionValue = isnull(max(PermissionValue),0)FROM Permission, PermissionType, #GroupsWHERE Permission.ResourceId = @PortalIdAND  Permission.PartyId = #Groups.PartyIdAND Permission.PermissionTypeId = PermissionType.PermissionTypeId
IF @PortalPermissionValue = 0BEGIN RAISERROR (60002, 16, 1) return -3END

Stored Proc - Calling A Remote Stored Proc

Aug 24, 2006

I am having trouble executing a stored procedure on a remote server. On my
local server, I have a linked server setup as follows:
Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563

This works fine on my local server:

Select * From [Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563].DatabaseName.dbo.TableName

This does not work (Attempting to execute a remote stored proc named 'Data_Add':

Exec [Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563].DatabaseName.Data_Add 1,'Hello Moto'

When I attempt to run the above, I get the following error:
Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563'.
No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.

Could anyone shed some light on what I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks - Amos.

Stored Proc Question : Why If Exisits...Drop...Create Proc?

Jun 15, 2006

Hi All,Quick question, I have always heard it best practice to check for exist, ifso, drop, then create the proc. I just wanted to know why that's a bestpractice. I am trying to put that theory in place at my work, but they areasking for a good reason to do this before actually implementing. All Icould think of was that so when you're creating a proc you won't get anerror if the procedure already exists, but doesn't it also have to do withCompilation and perhaps Execution. Does anyone have a good argument fordoing stored procs this way? All feedback is appreciated.TIA,~CK

ASP Cannot Run Stored Proc Until The Web User Has Run The Proc In Query Analyzer

Feb 23, 2007

I have an ASP that has been working fine for several months, but itsuddenly broke. I wonder if windows update has installed some securitypatch that is causing it.The problem is that I am calling a stored procedure via an ASP(classic, not .NET) , but nothing happens. The procedure doesn't work,and I don't get any error messages.I've tried dropping and re-creating the user and permissions, to noavail. If it was a permissions problem, there would be an errormessage. I trace the calls in Profiler, and it has no complaints. Thedatabase is getting the stored proc call.I finally got it to work again, but this is not a viable solution forour production environment:1. response.write the SQL call to the stored procedure from the ASPand copy the text to the clipboard.2. log in to QueryAnalyzer using the same user as used by the ASP.3. paste and run the SQL call to the stored proc in query analyzer.After I have done this, it not only works in Query Analyzer, but thenthe ASP works too. It continues to work, even after I reboot themachine. This is truly bizzare and has us stumped. My hunch is thatwindows update installed something that has created this issue, but Ihave not been able to track it down.

Integration Services :: Get FileName Fo Each File Created Via Dynamic Flat File Destination

Jul 24, 2015

Need to know how I can get the dynamic filename created in the FlatFile destination for insert into a package audit table?

Scenario: Have created a package that successfully outputs Dynamiclly named flat files { Format: C:Test’Comms_File_’ + ‘User::FileNumber’+’_’+Date +’.txt’

E.g.: Comms_File_1_20150724.txt, Comms_File_2_20150724.txt  etc} using Foreach Loop Container  :

* Enumerator Set to: “Foreach ADO Enumerator” with the ADO object source variable selected to identify how many total loop iterations there are i.e. Let’s say 4 thus 4 files to be created

*Variable Mappings : added the User::FileNumber – indicates which file number current loop iteration is i.e. 1,2,3,4

For the DataFlow task have a OLDBSource and a FlatFile Destination where Flat File ConnectionString is set up as:

@[User::Output_Path] + "Comms_File"+ @[User:: FileNumber] +"_" + replace((DT_WSTR, 10) (DT_DBDATE) GETDATE(),"-","")+ ".txt"

All this successfully creates these 4 files:

Comms_File_1_20150724.txt, Comms_File_2_20150724.txt, Comms_File_3_20150724.txt, Comms_File_4_20150724.txt

Now the QUESTION is how do I get these filenames as I need to insert them into a DB Audittable. The audit table looks like this:

CREATE TABLE dbo.MMMAudit
  (
     AuditID      INT IDENTITY(1, 1) NOT NULL,
     PackageName     VARCHAR(100) NULL,

FileName           VARCHAR(100) NULL,
     LoadTime        DATETIME NULL,
     NumberofRecords INT NULL
  )

To save the Filename & how many records in each file in our Audit Table, am using an Execute SQL Task and configuring it as this:

Execute SQL Task

Parameter mapping - Mapped the User Variable (RecordsInserted) and System Variable( PackageName) to Insert statement as shown below

SQLStatement: INSERT INTO [dbo].[MMMAudit] (
PackageName,NumerofRecords,LoadTime)
 (?,?.GETDATE)

Again this all works terrific & populates the dbo.MMMAudit table as shown below BUT I also need to insert the respsctive file name – How do I do that?

AuditID PackageName FileName  NumberOfRecords
1           MMM       NULL                      12
2          MMM  NULL                23
3          MMM  NULL      14
4          MMM  NULL              1

How Stored Procedures Are Executed

Apr 20, 2007

I was wondering the way in which stored procedures are executed.
For example if I had a stored procedure (A) that executed a sub stored procedure (B).
And two different users where to execute the Stored procedure at the same time what would happen.
Would the second user have to wait while the first user had finished (A and B), dose each user get a copy of the stored procedure or can one user be running stored procedure (B) whilst the other is running stored procedure (A).

Execute A Task Even Though A Checkpoint File Says It Has Already Been Executed

Dec 16, 2005

I have the following scenario:

-I have a package that uses checkpoints

-The first task in that package (an Exec SQL Task) retrieves a timestamp value from an external source

-That timestamp value is used in data-flows to pull data that has been changed since then

-At the end of the package the value in the db is updated

Now...if something fails then on the next execution the checkpoint file will kick in. But this means that the first task (which retrieves the timestamp) will not execute and therefore all the data-flows will be pulling the wrong data.

The only way I can think of getting around this problem is to specify that a task should execute regardless of the presence of a checkpoint file. Unfortunately it seems this cannot be done.

Another option might be to put an OnPreExecute task on the package that gets the timestamp value.

Anyone got any advice about how I should progress? Short of a suggestion from elsewhere I'm going to go with the tactic of using the OnPreExecute to retrieve the timestamp.

Thanks in advance.

-Jamie

Is It Possible Extract File Name From Script Executed In Query Analyser ?

Apr 6, 2006

Hi ,
is it possible extract file name from script executed in query
analyser ?

Example steps

1. open QA
2. open c:mySuperScript.sql
code in c:mySuperScript.sql
use master
select @filename as [file executed]
select count(*) as xfrom syslogins
3. run

-- result
file executed
------------
c:mySuperScript.sql

x
--
112

Why we need it.
Each database update created using sql compare tool from red-gate
Script saved in Vss
When script executed in production using QA we save output as proof of deployment
currently we add to each script

select
'script= put you file name'+ char(13)+
'server = ' + cast(@@servername as char(20))+ char(13)+
'dbname= ' + cast(DB_NAME()as char(20)) + char(13) +
'execution date= '+ cast(getdate()as char(24))+ char(13)+
'executed by = '+ system_user

We want wrap everything in procedure that will
extract executed file name and other values

this procedure should be first line of code in each script

Thanks

If I publish theproject and put files on another server (or even use the publishedfiles from my machine) I have an error because stored procedure isexecuted twice. @sub_no is used as input/output parameter.I followed/trace the steps in procedure and it seems that procedure isexecuted once with correct value of @sub_no. The second time procedureis executed, the value that it was assigned before COMMIT is used,which gives an error because the INSERT values have NULL values.In ASP.NET I call the store procedure once.What could be the reason ?Thanks a lot for any help.

Calling Stored Proc B From Stored Proc A

I have about 5 stored procedures that, among other things, execute exactly the same SELECT statement

Instead of copying the SELECT statement 5 times, I'd like each stored proc to call a single stored proc that executes the SELECT statement and returns the resultset to the calling stored proc

The SELECT statement in question retrieves a single row from a table containing 10 columns.

Is there a way for a stored proc to call another stored proc and gain access to the resultset of the called stored proc?

I know about stored proc return values and about output parameters, but I think I am looking for something different.

Calling T SQL Stored Proc From CLR Stored Proc

I would like to know if the following is possible/permissible:

myCLRstoredproc (or some C# stored proc)

//call some T SQL stored procedure spSQL and get the result set here to work with

INSERT INTO #tmpCLR EXECUTE spSQL
}

spSQL
(

INSERT INTO #tmpABC EXECUTE spSQL2
)

spSQL2
(
// some other t-sql stored proc
)

Can we do that? I know that doing this in SQL server would throw (nested EXECUTE not allowed). I dont want to go re-writing the spSQL in C# again, I just want to get whatever spSQL returns and then work with the result set to do row-level computations, thereby avoiding to use cursors in spSQL.
