DTS Output Excel File - How To Format?
Jun 8, 2004
Has anyone had experience formatting an excel file (i.e. run a macro) after it is (created &) outputted from a DTS package?
Also an easier question:
What is the best (easiest) way to create a unique filename in Excel with a datetimestamp in the file name (i.e. MyFile-20040608.xls)
Thanks!

In my report I have used the "jump to url" for the report output but when I export this to excel I get a column with the correct data and also the url.
Is there anyway of exporting the data without the url?
I want my users to be able to view the report and click on the column the want to URL jump to but also be able to export just the raw data without the URL?

OK, another problem but the same member, i am feeling REALLY thick now!
I have a job set up that extracts data from a table and puts to an Excel sheet, this is then emailed to certain recipients.
why is the data appending in the Excel file rather than overwriting? How can i prevent this?

I would like to create a SQL job that runs a basic query monthly and saves the results as a .xls file and emails the results to a user. I've been unsuccessful with sp_send_dbmail in that the output file is always a single column. Any suggestions?

I'm a newbie to SQL. I'm using SQL Server 2012 on my local machine and I need to find a way to output my queries as Excel files. I came across these codes for Interactive SQL (what is intercative SQL by the way?) but they don't work in the SQL query window:
SELECT * FROM SalesOrders;
OUTPUT USING 'Driver=Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls);
DBQ=c: estsales.xls;
READONLY=0' INTO "newSalesData";
It seems the "OUTPUT" command is not a valid command. I really liked that piece of code (may be because it is so simple and carries over very few lines)! Do we have something similar for SQL Server 2012 that can do the job?

I need to create a query (SQL 2000) that renders a formatted excel (xml or xls) file for each row that is outputted.
The details, I have a Campaign table that contains information for Auto and Life "Leads" and the data is submitted by telemarketers directly into the database. I need to render a file for each line, and it would be good if It were an Excel XML or XLS file, because that's what we've been using for a while.

I'm writing an SSIS package to run a series of select statements and save the results of each to a sheet in an Excel file. An indirect configuration file with these entries is used:
Package.Variables[User::ExcelTemplateFilePath].Properties[Value]
Package.Connections[AcculoanDatabase].Properties[ConnectionString]
Package.Connections[ExcelReportFile].Properties[ExcelFilePath]
At the start of the package this setup will happen.
1) copy ExcelTemplateFilePath to ExcelFilePath
2) Set User::ReportFilePath to ExcelFilePath
Creating a script task to do this is not a problem. However the task fails on validation of the tasks that write the select results to the Excel file sheets. I'm thinking the validation fails because the Excel file is not copied before the validation is done.
How can I arrange for the setup script to run and copy the Excel file before validation?
Is there is a better way or am I just doing this wrong?
Thanks

I have set up an export package in SSIS and I would like to assign a file name based on the value in a table on my SQLServer. For example, my file name might be Monthly Reporting Package 20070731.xls where 20070731 is a value in my date table. I can retrieve my date by the following select statement: "SELECT Date FROM DecodeTables.dbo.Date". Can I set up a variable to look up this value and then concatenate it into my file name?

I am trying to create an ssis package with dynamic csv file as output. and out format contains query output.
sample file name:
Unique identifier + query output + systemdate();
The expression is looking like this.
@[User::FilePath] + @[User::FileName] + ".CSV"
-- user filepath is a variable from ssis package. File name is the output from SQL query. using script task i have assigned the values to @[User::FileName] .
When I debugged the script task the value getting properly but same variable am using for Flafile destination. but its not working.

Hello,
I have an SSIS package that basically runs a query and exports to an Excel destination. Everything works fine except for a date field that I use. When I preview the export it the date looks fine, as in a 1/7/07 2:05 PM for example. However, when I look at the actual Excel file/Export it will list the date as 1/7/07 without the time. I then have to format the column to the right date format in Excel for it to display correctly. I want to prevent the manual formatting due to the fact that this file needs to be automated.
Is there any way to make this happen?
Thanks,
Marco

I have a foreach loop that is processing all .xls files then moving them to a processed directory.Problem is that when I try to open the original file which is in .xls 97-2003 format, it's giving me a file error that SSIS could not read. Found out the problem was called Extension Hardening. I fixed it in the registry according to a website I found and I thought about writing a Batch file or Script to handle it, however SSIS still can't read unless I open and "save-as" to another format. It even works if I still save it in 97-2003 format just has to be a different file.How can I open and resave the files (all excel files in directory through a loop) and rename them the same?
For example:
Original file named "ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls"
Can I loop through all files in the directory and name each one differently say "REVISED_ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls" so I can read them through SSIS?I think I need a @filename variable or something for that..

Hi All
I've been googling this for a while now and can't seem to find any elegant answers.
I'm looking for an automated way to present a FORMATED Excel Spreadsheet to the Customer from a stored procedure output.
Can anyone advise me the best method of doing this - should I / can I assign an Excel Template to the DTS Task output ?
His mind is set on Excel and the formatting is basic and easy to write in a Macro which I've done, but this requires human interaction to finish the task (Automated Run Once on opening etc).
In an ideal world an individual would send an email to the Server with two formated parameters (@FromDate & @ToDate) and would be emailed back a ready formatted S/Sheet. But I believe he would be willing to just select the relevant SpreadSheet for the Daily / Weekly / Monthly periods dumped.
Thanks

I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Manisha

Hi All,
I am stuck at one place, where I have to convert CSV format file data into SAP IDOC format file. In SSIS we don't have any such SAP adapter (though we have .NET Data Provider for mySAP suite [SSIS SAP Adapter] but this is still not fully supported by Microsoft, plus it doesn't have feature to convert data into IDOC format) that can do this. Can someone here please provide me some pointers on any third party adapters available in market to do this job or if anyone has already developed some custom approach to achieve this task?
Your quick response on this is highly appreciated.

Here is my very simple select statement:

I was thinking some kind of cast/convert would do the trick but I can't seem to get anything to work.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Kids,
I've just upgraded a 6.5 database to version 7.0 and I'm having a problem with default date output formats.
Under 6.5 the output format was: Sep 2 2001 12:00PM
Under 7.0 the same field is output as: 2001-09-02 12:00:00.000
Is there a way to permanently set the default output format for dates on a database or server wide?
Thanks
Ron

A few details first:
The report server is remote to the development server (VS 2003).
The web application that will be calling it is ASP.NET 2.0 and developed in VS 2005.
I have a couple of questions:
a: Can I link to the report from the web application using a basic Hyperlink control rather than using a ReportViewer control?
b: How can I force which format it opens in? Say I want it to be rendered as a PDF in one instance but at an XSL document in another.
Many thanks and kindest regards,

Hi all,
I'm Trying to replicate the creation of an "xml" file that is currently created using a C++ application. I want to take that application out of the picture, but need to create the same format XML file because a step later in the production process uses this file, and I cannot change it.
The output format I am looking for is:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FUNDS>
<AMRGX>
<NAME>AMERICAN GROWTH D</NAME>
</AMRGX>
<AHERX>
<NAME>AMERICAN HERITAGE FUND</NAME>
</AHERX>
<AMRVX>
<NAME>AMERICAN INVESTORS GROWTH FUND</NAME>
</AMRVX>
.
.
.
</FUNDS>The problem I am having is that I cannot seem to get the level/node of the fund symbol (AMRGX, AHERX, and AMRVX in the example above) as it needs to be. I think this must be some non-standard use of XML, since the tag is really the data itself (?)
The closest I have been able to get so far is:
<FUNDS>
<SYMBOL>AMRGX</SYMBOL>
<NAME>AMERICAN GROWTH D</NAME>
</FUNDS>
<FUNDS>
<SYMBOL>AHERX</SYMBOL>
<NAME>AMERICAN HERITAGE FUND</NAME>
</FUNDS>
.
.
.As you can see (hopefully) I am able to get the data I need but cannot get:
(1) the FUNDS tag(s) to be the very highest level/root.
nor (2) the SYMBOL part (tag label?) to be the actual variable stock fund.
Am I 'splaining this well enough? I don't necessarily need all the code, since I know I haven't given enough info to help with that, but my basic question is - - Is it possible to get a variable TAG based on the table DATA?
I want my SYMBOL tag to be the actual SYMBOL for the stock fund.
Confused? Not as much as I am *LOL* I am new to the use of all but XML EXPLICIT use, so any help would be appreciated - at least regarding my two formatting questions.
Yes, I have (and am still) searching around BOL for my answers, but so I have found nothing that helps me out. Meanwhile, suggestions are welcome!
Thanks!
