DTS Wizard Fails To Retrieve Long Data
May 13, 2007
We are trying to import data into SQL Server 2005 from MySQL 5.0.x using DTS Wizard via MySQLOLE DB Provider developed by Cherry City Software .
We can read BLOB data from MySQL via ADO 2.7 and ADO.NET 2.0. We can also use DTS Wizard to read the data on Preview. For the test, we defined a table as tBlob (lText VARCHAR(9000)) and inserted one record with a few characters. However, DTS Wizard always fails at the executing step with the following error messages:
Error 0xc0202009: Data Flow Task: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0208265: Data Flow Task: Failed to retrieve long data for column "lText".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc020901c: Data Flow Task: There was an error with output column "lText" (17) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (11). The column status returned was: "DBSTATUS_UNAVAILABLE".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0209029: Data Flow Task: The "output column "lText" (17)" failed because error code 0xC0209071 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "lText" (17)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0047038: Data Flow Task: The PrimeOutput method on component "Source - tblob" (1) returned error code 0xC0209029. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0047021: Data Flow Task: Thread "SourceThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047038.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0047039: Data Flow Task: Thread "WorkThread0" received a shutdown signal and is terminating. The user requested a shutdown, or an error in another thread is causing the pipeline to shutdown.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0047021: Data Flow Task: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047039.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
This could be a defect in the DTS Wizard. How do we workaround this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
We have a SSIS project where we load lot of image files using an OLE DB Source component and put it across the database as varbinary into OLEDB Destination component.
Things were fine until now where am getting an error like this. alongside the log also reads like,
There is not enough space on the disk. Long data was retrieved and can't be added to the data flow task buffer.
SSIS Error Code: DTS_E_InducedTransformFailureOnError.
Is this method of loading the files using an OleDb Souce not the efficient one ? If not is there a way I can get this done. Comments are highly appreciated!!
Thanks in Advance

Hi,
for testing purposes I'm inserting a flat file into a sql-server table using BULK INSERT unsig the following code:
BULK INSERT rsk_staging
FROM 'c: empulk
sk.txt'
WITH (
FIELDTERMINATOR = '',
ROWTERMINATOR = '
',
CODEPAGE = 'RAW',
DATAFILETYPE = 'char',
BATCHSIZE = 100000,
ROWS_PER_BATCH = 1925604,
TABLOCK
)
I have two versions of "rsk.txt" one with 1.9mill rows and one with the first 2000 rows only. The files have one column only with 115 characters that I'll split in to several columns later using SUBSTRING. The one with 2000 rows fires in to the database with no problems whatsoever using this exact code, the other one throws the following error:
Server: Msg 4866, Level 17, State 66, Line 1
Bulk Insert fails. Column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 1. Make sure the field terminator and row terminator are specified correctly.
How can I resolve this problem?
EDIT: I tried several different row- and fieldterminators but this exact one works for the small data-file so I assume it should also work for the large one...the large one is however copyed directly using binary ftp from a unix-filesystem and the small one is manually copied into a new txt-file using UltraEdit.

Hi
First up - my apologies if this is not the right forum for this question. Please let me know if there is a more appropriate one for this question.
I have come across an issue with my SQL Server 2005 Express Edition install. It has been running fine since the install (a few months back). And I can still interact (query, update etc) the databases just fine. However, SQL Management Server Studio Express has started to produce an error message when I attempt to connect the Object Explorer.
The error message is shown below.
I have tried to access the link shown in the error message but there is no information provided there.
I can use SQL Management Server Studio Express to run queries on the databases so it would appear that the underlying services are all running OK.
The SQL Server is installed using SQL Authentication only and I have not made any changes to Service accounts or the services themselves. The protocols all appear to be in order too - Shared Memory, Named Pipes, TCP/IP are all enabled.
I have restarted the SQL services and even rebooted the machine, but to no avail.
I would really appreciate if anyone out there could give me some guidance on what may be causing this issue.
Note: The SQL Server is installed on WinXP Pro SP2 running in a VirtualPC. All apps are release versions (no beta or CTP)

It means its usage for select from every user frequentely for so many times but we have to only fetch information from this table.
It was working prior fine but rightnow get problem for while-

Hello All,
I'm having a problem doing a bulk insert on a tab delimited text file into mssql 2005 using either bulk insert or bcp.
When using the following bulk insert command I get the "The column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 2" error.
I have tried
Code Snippet
BULK

The data file only has data for the first 10 columns of a table with over 100 columns.
First 10 table columns have the format of

I am trying to migrate a 2008 R2 (SP1) database with one secondary data file to a separate 2014 server using the Copy Database Wizard from the 2014 server, and connect to both SQL engines on that server. It consistently fails on step 5. I'm logging to a text file and the error I see is as follows:
InnerException-->Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
StackTrace: at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection, Action`1 wrapCloseInAction)
I created a test database on the same 2008 server, also with a secondary data file, and it migrated flawlessly using the CDW. I am using the copy object method in all cases, and not the detach/attach method.
I would prefer to perform this without any downtime on the source (production) database.

I have a new Windows 8.1 64-bit machine onto which I have installed everything that I had on my previous Windows 7 machine. Occasionally I like to use the Copy Database Wizard in SQL 2012 to create a copy of a database on my stand-alone laptop before I begin a new stage of development on it. However, I have failed to run it successfully on my new Windows 8 laptop, despite everything apart from the operating system being identical to my Windows 7 machine, on which I never encountered a problem.
do not suggest using backup instead of the Copy Database Wizard, as if something has worked for me perfectly for 15 years I would like to know why it does not work now. The error message that I receive is shown at the end of this message.
The log-on accounts for SQL Server Agent and SQL Server Integration Services 11.0 are NT ServiceSQLSERVERAGENT and NT ServiceMsDtsServer110 respectively, as they were on my Windows 7 machine. All services are running. Why I receive the error stating, "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow" for every database that I have tried to copy, including a new database with no tables that I created to see if I still received this error. As I said, the problem relates to trying to copy databases onto the same machine on which the original database exists.

Hi All,
I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.
Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.
So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.
I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good
Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.
When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:
Could not connect source component.
Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!
Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.
This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!
This generates 2 questions:
1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection
2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.
Help!!!

I have an SSIS Package which Retreives Data using a SQL Query like below
select a.* from dbo.test a (nolock)
JOIN dbo.test1 b (nolock)
ON a.DetailsId = b.DetailsId
JOIN dbo.test c (nolock) on c.DetailsLineId = b.DetailsLineId
where convert(date,c.CpPlacedDate)>?
and convert(date,c.CpPlacedDate) < convert(date,GETDATE())
and c.PartnerCode in ('akakak07')
The CpPlacedDate DataType is Datetime. After the Successfull Execution of SSIS Package the final output results in destination is lesser than source.
The Maximum of cpplaceddate in the Destination for a particular date is '2015-06-13 23:46:08.923'
The Maximum of cpplaceddate in the Source for a particular date is '2015-06-13 23:59:14.873'
I am missing 16 records in between this time Gap.

I'm trying to figure this out
I have a store procedure that return the userId if a user exists in my table, return 0 otherwise
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Create Procedure spUpdatePasswordByUserId
@userName varchar(20),
@password varchar(20)
AS
Begin
Declare @userId int
Select @userId = (Select userId from userInfo Where userName = @userName and password = @password)
if (@userId > 0)
return @userId
else
return 0
------------------------------------------------------------------
I create a function called UpdatePasswordByUserId in my dataset with the above stored procedure that returns a scalar value. When I preview the data from the table adapter in my dataset, it spits out the right value.
But when I call this UpdatepasswordByUserId from an asp.net page, it returns null/blank/0
passport.UserInfoTableAdapters oUserInfo = new UserInfoTableAdapters();
Response.Write("userId: " + oUserInfo.UpdatePasswordByUserId(txtUserName.text, txtPassword.text) );
Do you guys have any idea why?

Hey All,
I am developing a data acquistion system which monitors the amount of energy that a user consumes in different parts of a house and displays the information in real time on their computer screen. I am collecting the data through tranducers attached to the circuit breakers in the breaker box and sending the data to analog-to-digital converter channels in a MCU. I am retrieving the data from the serial port and storing it to a text file. Each line of data in the text file represents three fields which are separated by commas. I will be reading data from multiple data collection boxes so the first field is the unit number, the second fied represents the analog-to-digital converter channel number from each unit, and the third field is the data that is collected from the ATD channel. I am trying to use SSE to retrieve the data from the text file, and parse each line of data into individual columns in a databse. Then I want to be able to extract the data associated with a particular ATD channel number from the databse and display it in the appropriate text field on a windows form.
I've got the MCU programmed. I have no problem collecting the data from the serial port, and I can do the visual basic programming okay. I have absolutely no clue how to read the data into the database, continuosly read new values into the databse, and then access the stored data to update the text fields on the form. Please help if you can, I've been working on this specific problem for a couple of weeks and I'm not making any progress. Thanks.

I have a working Data Import from Excel 2013 to SQL Server 2012.But when I save the package to SQL and Execute it, it fails.I think this is due to Datatype issues.In the Wizard I set the Global On Error Action to Ignore when dealing with Excel columns which contain both Numbers and Text. This works fine.So I suspect that when the package is saved and executed it uses the default Global On Error Action - which is fail. Is there a way to change this setting in SSMS or elsewhere?

I have a table with millions of rows and about 70 columns that move through a number of states (11 possible states in all) from "New" via various states to "Processed" and eventually to "Archive" (there's a complicated state diagram that I won't bore you with)
Movement between states is based on a heap of business logic including the move to Archive (not just dates).
Different sorts of processing (querying and update both by users and overnight processing) are carried out on the data according to its state.
Maintaining the indexes for optimum performance across the board is a headache.
We have two problems in that we want better query performance and want to be able to easily switch out objects that are in the Archive state.
I had in mind partitioning the table (and its indexes) on state so that :
(a) Queries would be directed only at the appropriate partition (that is always use "where state=" as part of the query)
(b) The Archive partition could be swapped out of the table periodically
In my test setup 10 of 11 partitions are in [PRIMARY] but Archive is in a different filegroup.
Query performance is OK - execution plans look good.
However my update performance is now appalling when moving between any two states (10 times as long as on the unpartitioned table).
I understand that when you update a column which is used as a partition key it will cause the row to "move from one partition to another" as it says in another post.
Fine - because that's exactly what I want - logically.
I can also understand that moving from one filegroup (and hence the underlying file) to another must mean that the data has to physically move.
However is the data physically moving whenever you move between partitions or what's going on to cause such a degradation in performance ?

Before I ask a question, I am visually impaired and cannot read printed words only on a screen. I am 51 years old and have been coding professionally since I was 23 (yes that long). I have four apps on the market and run a small consultancy company in the UK and my SQL knowledge is scant. I have read two books on the subject and thought I had an idea on how SQL works.
I used to belong to another forum but they gave me a hard time so please go easy on me.
I developed an ADO app ages ago and remembered some of it ...
I have four tables (the following is a simplified version of the real thing)
MainTable (Contact data like name address etc. 23 fields)
Towns (Two fields TownUIN and TownName)
Counties (Two fields CountyUIN and CountyName)
Countries (Two fields CountryUIN and CountryName)
My database is normalised to 3NF and contains no duplicate or redundant data.
My problem ...
Sample data
Main:
MainUIN MainName MainTown
1000 Fred Bloggs 1
1001 Fred Smith 2
Towns:
TownUIN TownName
1 Bradford
2 Leeds
SELECT MainName,MainTown FROM Main WHERE MainUIN=1000 returns
'Fred Bloggs' 1 (the TownUIN)
I want ...
'Fred Bloggs' 'Bradford'
It was suggested I use
SELECT MainName,MainTown FROM Main,Towns WHERE MainUIN=1000 AND TownUIN=MainTown
This returned 'Fred Bloggs' 'Bradford' but was slow.
My question is what am I doing wrong?
I am using SQL Server 2005 Express with VB.Net 2005 on Vista Business and XP.
I am sorry my SQL knowledge is weak please dont get angry just tell me the basic thing that I do not know.

Hi.I have a IIS server with php3 installed. I have SQL server databaseand data stored in unicode format (nvarchar fields). In header of myphp I have the meta: <meta HTTP-EQUIV="content-type"CONTENT="text/html; charset=UTF-8">.I have the following problem:- I trie to do a query using ODBC (version 3.525.1022.0) and SQLServer odbc driver (version 200.85.1022.00). The query doesn'tretrieve information in utf format and accents and extra charactersaren't showed correctly.- I trie to di the query usin native OLE DB. I use mssql funtions andthe problem is the same.If I install php4 and I use "newCOM("ADODB.Connection",NULL,CP_UTF8);", then it works correctly.Anybody knows if its posible to retrieve data from sql-server in utf-8format using php3?I see in other postings that odbc driver only accept utf-8 in version3.7 or higher? Is it true? If is true, where I can download odbcdriver 3.7?Thank's in advance.Miki.

When Importing data from Access 2000 to SQL Server 2000 I get an error when the column's data type in Access is Memo if I try to set the column's data type in SQL Server to text or ntext. Here is the error that I am getting.
Query-based insertion or updating of BLOB values is not supported.
I have tried to change this to a varchar data type but the fields can be very large and some are over the 8000 limit.
Short of programmatically adding the data, is there another way to do this in SQL Server? I cannot use the Access upsize wizard.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had an idea if it's possible to run a stored procedure that would basically output a .sql file used to recreate the database elsewhere. kinda like the data publishing wizard does.
?

Hi, I have a record set that is bound to a table in MS SQL Server. Onefiled in the table is bound to a "long" type member variable in theRecordSet. What will happen to the "long" variable when the field isNULL in the table?Thanks!-Yi
