I'm using DTS to import a text file (fixed field). In my sample data, I have 21 rows of data.
DTS only brings in 15 or so, because it fails to recognize the CRLF on some of the rows, and just treats it and the subsequent row as part of the previous row.
The text file is being produced via FTP from an IBM Iseries. It imports just fine into Notepad and Excel.
Anyone have any ideas why DTS would have trouble with this ?
I'm having a strange behavior here, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, I'm not sure.
Anyway, I have a csv file, the Flat File Connection Manager is configured like this: Row delimiter: {CR}{LF} Column delimiter: {;}
For some rows in my file the last two columns are empty and the there is no semicolon for these empty rows but these rows are still ended by a CRLF but SSIS does not consider the CRLF as the end of the row, it consider the first 2 columns of the next row as the last 2 columns of the current row.
Hi, I just started working with Visual Web Devloper 2005 Express Developer and sql server 2005 Express Edition. My web is hosted with 1and1.com. They have informed me that I can't upload the database generated by the developer software and from what I understand, I will import those files into the mssqlserver database on my site. From my limited understanding, this is done from the backup file that is created from my local sql database. I didn't see a way to do that within VWD 2005 so I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I opened it I chose the SQLServer (sqlExpress) located on my computer. The connection seems to work fine. However when I go to open a file and open the database that is in my web I get an error that states that there is no editor and to be sure the aplication for file type .mdf has been installed.
I'm not sure where to go from here or if I'm even on the correct path.
I have a simple parent that uses an Execute Package Task to call a simple child package. The child package has a Data Flow that I disabled. When running the child package by itself, the data flow task is bypassed. When running the package via the parent the data flow task executes.
Second issue is when you disable the package configurations in the child, the parent doesn't recognize that it's diables and tries to load the configurations.
It's almost like there are some settings in a child that get ignored by the parent??
I have a Windows Internal Database (installed by SharePoint WSS 3.0) and SQL Server Management Studio Express installed on W2K3 Std server. The server has local hard disk drive C, E, F & G. However SQL Server Management Studio Express only recognize C and E drive, for example in the set default database location or in attach database file dialog window only C & E drive are available. Anyone knows why and how to fix the problem? Thanks
A SqlServer 2005 db has a table with an nvarchar(max) column containing text with paragraph format. When displayed in a Windows form textbox each paragraph exhibits CRLF. When the table is opened in Management Studio the paragraph text is separated with two boxes at each CRLF.
I would like to insert an additional CRLF (or whatever is required) so that when viewed in a textbox each paragraph has a blank line separating it from the next paragraph. Much easier to read!!!
Can this be done? If so, how? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have a question that has a co-worker and myself confused. We are using the SQL Server Enterprise Manager. When I select return all rows in my tables, any content that is too long will appear as <Long Text> on my co-workers machine, but the column is blank on my machine. Is there a property or configuration that enables/disables <Long Text>? I am confused as to why it appears on other machines, but not mine.
Hi all, I have the following weird situation. I must update a "text" column in my mssql db with a string that is more than 10000 character long. I know that "text" is able to store up to 2Gbyte of data, but what is happening? that when i excecute the query (in PHP, using the odbc_exec function), my poor Apache got stuck!!! and afterwards, i am not even able to access that field (i mean Apache go nut again).
Have you ever experienced somthing like that? Any suggestion?
I have SQL 2005 on 64 bit cluster OS is Windows server 2003 SP2. We have full-text enabled on one table of the database. It has doc, xls, pdf and swf type of documents. Now full text works for word and excel docs but not for pdf files.
I searched online and found two commands to execute after installing Adobe 6.0 ifilter. I did it last week and then server was rebooted last weekend so it restarted all the services exec sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1
exec sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0
still pdf full text search is not working. Does this ifilter from Adobe works for 64 bit?

I am able to perform full text searches if I inform SQL Server the file is a text file but when I set the correct type as a csv the file does not get indexed.
Also nocticed that I have two IFilters one that comes with SQL and the other with Office they have the same name and just the one that is on system32 handles CSV files, office files are processed correctly.
This are the IFilter locations: C:WINDOWSsystem32offfilt.dll C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.4MSSQLBinnofffilt.dll
I have a valid CSV but when I run the FiltDump.exe command I get: C:Temp>FiltDump 1075555.csv FILE: 1075555.csv Error 0x80030050 loading IFilter
This is the type of error log I get from SQL Server: 2007-11-20 15:30:18.46 spid24s Warning: No appropriate filter was found during full-text index population for table or indexed view '[FileStorage].[dbo].[Document]' (table or indexed view ID '6', database ID '162099618'), full-text key value 0x00000002. Hi all, I made a migration operation and when I am looking inside database I can see the <BR> tags. The question is how to write a query that replace all of this occurances of <BR> inside the colum table, with CLRF which is a new line code. Thanks in advance.
This probably sounds like a dumb question, but here goes! I have a field in a database where I store a list of parameters for a report. These are seperated by hard crlf. IN SQL Server 2000 I could recall the paramters and in the results pane I could use CTRL and Enter go go onto the next line and add a new parameter. I recently upgraded to SQL 2005. Now in the management studion, when I recall the parameters, they all display on one line, seperated by a rectangle symbol. I need to add a new parameter, but using CTRL and enter does not work. Is there any way to do this through the results pane, or do I need to add parameters using a script?
I have a column in a data flow task which contains carriage return/line breaks. Is it possible to remove them with a derived column - or is there a better way to do this?
Hi all, We have a table that is full text enabled and it is working fine, but the full text search doesn't returns any record for the following case
select * from let_catalog_search where contains(search_field,'"Bulk Process 1*"') even though there exist records that satisfy the condition in the table, the record that i am talking abt is "bulk process 1 with price bp100-ilt1-00200136 bp100-ilt1"
If I remove the last 1 from the search string i get lot of records, Can anybody help me out.
I sent a long string of ID from front end to my stored procedure...till now I was using varchar(8000)...but if the string crossess that limit it is breaking.
If I try to use text datatype..It doesn't support rtrim, stuff functions etc...
So could any one suggest me a best way to save a long string without any restriction of size...
My front end is C#.Net and Back End is SQL SERVER 2000
I have to import data from flat file and I need to filter the data because there is always a Carriage Return Line Feed at end of the file. Currently I'm using Conditional Split task but I didn't know how to validate the CRLF character so I can separate it from valid data. How to detect those CRLF using Conditional Split or do I have to use another task ?
Hi, I want to create a text file and write to text it by calling its assembly from Stored Procedure. Full Detail is given below
I write a code in class to create a text file and write text in it. 1) I creat a class in Visual Basic.Net 2005, whose code is given below: Imports System Imports System.IO Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic Imports System.Diagnostics Public Class WLog Public Shared Sub LogToTextFile(ByVal LogName As String, ByVal newMessage As String) Dim w As StreamWriter = File.AppendText(LogName) LogIt(newMessage, w) w.Close() End Sub Public Shared Sub LogIt(ByVal logMessage As String, ByVal wr As StreamWriter) wr.Write(ControlChars.CrLf & "Log Entry:") wr.WriteLine("(0) {1}", DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString(), DateTime.Now.ToLongDateString()) wr.WriteLine(" :") wr.WriteLine(" :{0}", logMessage) wr.WriteLine("---------------------------") wr.Flush() End Sub Public Shared Sub LotToEventLog(ByVal errorMessage As String) Dim log As System.Diagnostics.EventLog = New System.Diagnostics.EventLog log.Source = "My Application" log.WriteEntry(errorMessage) End Sub End Class
2) Make & register its assembly, in SQL Server 2005. 3)Create Stored Procedure as given below:
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.SP_LogTextFile ( @LogName nvarchar(255), @NewMessage nvarchar(255) ) AS EXTERNAL NAME [asmLog].[WriteLog.WLog].[LogToTextFile]
4) When i execute this stored procedure as Execute SP_LogTextFile 'C:Test.txt','Message1'
5) Then i got the following error Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure SP_LogTextFile, Line 0 A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'SP_LogTextFile': System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:Test.txt' is denied. I have a number of jobs which in step one create a flat file from my databases using an expression to insert the date (yyyy-mm-dd) within the file name. I am then in step two using send mail to send those files to my users, again using an expression to reference the attached file.
When the first step's file is already created and I'm overwriting, the job runs fine either manually within Business Studio or as a scheduled job via SQL Agent. But when the files are being created in step one, the job fails validation with the message that the send mail file attachment doesn't exist! SSIS doesn't seem to recognize that the file is being created in the prior step. Could this be true? Or is there some other problem that I'm missing?
Hi All there!I am quite new in MS SQL administration so let me explain how it workon Your instances of SQL Servers. We have several DTS packages on our server, all of them managed onsome station which have seriously hardvare problem. So we wolud liketo catch two problems at one time and decided to develop systematicway of DTS manipulation. One of several aspects of this operation would be migration fromsystem ODBC data sources definitions into file ODBC sources ( .dsnfiles) in order to make them easier to manage ( backup for example, and even reusability on other workstations). All .dsn files should belocated on some network resource (\server\directory...) which wouldbe set as default ODBC directory in ODBC administrator on managementstation. When I begin to do so, then it apears that EM DTS Designer does notremember the path to the DSN files ( for example on design panel Ichose file dsn and by browse button point at the certain .dsn file, and then after DTS save the path disapears).Do You use this facility ( file .dsn) in DTS EM Designer, or maybe MShas it treated as usless, and nobody wants to use this?RegardsK
I have a ForEach file enumerator that executes a data flow for every source file in a specified directory. If there are no files in the directory, the package executes with a result code of 0.
I need the package to fail if there aren't any files found in the specified load directory. Is there a simple way to do this with the SSIS component, or will I have to script the entire file enumeration process inside script tasks to handle this requirement?
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this question. Please post replies to this forum.
I am trying to convert a certificate that was exported from our database server to be used by SQL Server for database encryption. When I run the PVKConverter, not Private Key File (PVK) is generated. The certificate has Server and Client Authentication as the purposes of the certificate.
What purpose or purposes does the certificate need in order to be able to be used by SQL Server 2012 SP2?Why doesn't the PVKConverter generate a private key file?I can use the command makecerts to generate a self signed certificate and have it work with SQL Server database encryption.
The application (SQL2000 SP4) is running and appears to be functioning OK. The issue is that the SB Server doesn't recognize it, so when I try to add services to SBS, I fails the check. When I try to publish it to the AD, I get error 22039. MSCRM 3.0 is also installed on the same box and is working fine.
I have a GridView that is populated by a stored procedure via linq. I changed the stored procedure to return an additional column, but I can't get the additional column to show up in the GridView. The GridView has autogeneratecolumns=true, so if I were using a SqlDataSource the new column would show up automagically. But now it is not showing up and I cannot reference it. I can't figure out how to make linq recognize that my stored procedure has changed. I have tried deleting the sproc definition from the dbml file, making sure the partial class is removed the .vb file, refreshing the stored procedures list in database explorer, and adding the sproc definition back again (a hassle), but still it insists on defining only the original columns and not the new column. How do get linq to get back in sync with the database?
What I need to do is get all of the records from T2 that don't match EXACTLY to a record in T1. So I figured a LEFT OUTER JOIN should work:
SELECTT2.* FROMT2 LEFT OUTER JOIN T1 ONT2.C1 = T1.C1 ANDT2.C2 = T1.C2 ANDT2.C3 = T1.C3 WHERET1.C1 IS NULL
But this statement returns the DENISE record when I do this (which has an EXACT match). So, my thoughts took me to the NULL values in T1.C2 and T2.C2 for this record and I thought that, perhaps, the NULL values aren't being recognized as being equal (as they are UNKNOWN). So I started digging around and found SET ANSI_NULLS OFF. I tried it but with no luck. Can you offer any insight on this one? What can I do to have NULL values recognized as being equal?
This is the result set that I would like to have returned in this example:
Our network people changed our machine name one character without our permission, they say their naming standards can't handle an "underscore" we put in our name...now the SQL Server won't run because it doesn't recognize the name of the machine.
Is there a way of bypassing or telling SQL server that we changed the name without having to reload all of our information?
I have MS SQL 2000 Standard edition licensed in "per device" mode on adual xeon. However the properties->Processor tab on EM only list 1 cpu(CPU 0) and has "use all available processors" selected and the use [#]is greyed out.Anybody else experience this? Is it really using both processors? Or doI have some limited product key? I called MS tech support but they werelike, "um that'll be $295 to open a support instance" <*click*>.Thanks!--~zillaPosted via http://dbforums.com
Similar to a previous post (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=244646&SiteID=1), I am trying to import data into a SQL Table.
I am trying to program a small application that will import product data obtained through suppliers via CD-ROM. One supplier in particular uses Fixed width colums, and data looks like this:
Example of Data
0124015Apple Crate 32.12
0124016Bananna Box 12.56
0124017Mango Carton 15.98
0124018Seedless Watermelon 42.98 My Table would then have: ProductID as int Name as text Cost as money
How would I go about extracting the data with an XML Format file? I am stumbling over how to tell it where to start picking up data for a specific column. Is there any way that I could trim the Name column (i.e.: "Mango Carton " --> "Mango Carton")?
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I've been calling SQL from my code by doing this:
Code in C# Form
SqlConnection SqlConnection = new SqlConnection(global::SQLClients.Properties.Settings.Default.ClientPhonebookConnectionString); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();
SqlConnection.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); SqlConnection.Close(); RefreshData(); I am running Visual Studio C# Express 2005 and SQL Server Express 2005.
