DTS Import Does Not Import All Rows / Records

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,

I am having trouble importing data from an excel spreadsheet into MS
SQL Server 2000 using DTS Wizard. The DTS import process is
successfull, no errors, but only 50 rows of approx. 1500 rows of data
are imported. I tried to remove 20 rows in the excel spreadsheet in
the interval row 0-50. When i later ran the import, only 30 rows were
imported. I deleted almost every row in the interval 0-50, with the
result of the import having 0 rows imported (but job ran
successfully). I decided to delete rows 0-100 in the spreadsheet in
order to see if the resolved the problem, but it didn't. As I
suspected something in the excel file to be the cause, I exported the
excel spreadsheeet to a tab delimited textfile, with only one row. A
DTS import resulted in importing approx 100 rows, double the amount of
the textfile, but the other 1400 rows were not imported. The data in
the column is containing numeric values only.

Please help me! What could possibly be the cause of DTS skipping rows
like that. DTS doesn't feel reliable at all :/

Regards,
Björn

Error Trying To Import MS Access 2003 Database Via SQL Server Import And Export Wizard - Too Many Sessions Already Active

Nov 29, 2006

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.

I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.

Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

- Prepare for Execute (Error)

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.

Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

Use DTS To Delete All Records Before Import?

Nov 1, 2004

I want to modify a current DTS job I have. It simply copies records from one table to another after a given date. The catch is I only have read priviliges on the source table. I currently delete all the records from the destination table but have to use Query Analyzer to do it and then run the current package that is just a simple select statement. The statement in the DTS job is something like:

SELECT *
FROM tablename
WHERE date_field > '2004-09-30'

I have been running this multiple times per month since every week or so I want to get more recent data to run a couple of reports. The source table is not ours, it is in a different department, so I can only read off of it. The destination server is ours so I have full priviliges there. I assume the fact that the source server allows me limited access that I cannot run a "delete from tablename" first even though it is on our table? Is there another way to set this up? Thanks again. You guys are the best.

Import Dedicated Records From A Flatfile To A DB

Jun 29, 2006

Hello all
I got a Problem when I try to store Data from a Flatfile to a DB.
The following Error appears in the Progress Control:
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Products_1'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Products'.".

I have a Flat File Source, and would like to store the needed records in a DB.
In Column 0 in the Flatfile I have multiple Entries with equal Values.
In the DB this Column is set as Primary Key and can only have one Record with the same Value in this Column.

How can I read out (or store) only one Record with the same Value from the Flatfile to store it in the DB?

How can I check if there is a Record from the Flatfile in the DB with the same value in the Primary Key?

How can I change any of the remaining Columns with different Values in the DB to match with the Flatfile?

Thanks in advance for any answer

Import From A Flatfile With Rows That Have Different Formats

Jan 23, 2008

Hello Folks,

Im trying to use Integrations services to import a file on a daily basis.

My flatfile has to different type of rows that comes from an transaction system, it looks like this:

132,1/1/2008,00,123654,text,1,123.00
132,1/1/2008,00,123652,text,1,23.00
132,1/1/2008,00,123655,text,1,3.00
123,1/1/1/2008,01,149.00
1125,1/1/2008,00,123654,text,1,123.00
1125,1/1/2008,00,123652,text,1,23.00
1125,1/1/2008,00,123655,text,1,3.00
1125,1/1/1/2008,01,149.00;Cash;EUR;01;12

After the date you can see that there is two digits number either 00 or 01. The rows also have a different lengthts.

When ever that columns contains 00 the line should be inserted to a special text file, if the columns contains 01 it should to another file.

How can I solve this in a good way?

One of the problems I have is that when I try to import the rows the flat file connections indicates(erros message) that I have partial row in the file which is true since the the rows with the columns content 01 have more fields then the other.

Thanks for you help.

Flat File Records Dropped During Import

Jun 7, 2007

Hello,
I am attempting to import a fixed width flat file into a SQL Server table. When I import the file, 704 records don't make it into the table. I know this because if I do the import with MS Access 2003 into an Access table, all of the records from the flat file make it into the table. The flat files have a .txt extension.

The only possible problem that I can see is that some of the rows in the flat file do not contain the full set of characters. When I do the import into SQL Server and create a table on the fly, I still end up 704 records short. There are no error messages during or after the import.

I suppose I could isolate some of the missing records, put them into a different file and try to import them to see what would happen. Other than that, how do I begin to troubleshoot this problem? Are there known issues where records can be dropped from a fixed width file?

Thank you for your help!

IMPORT New Data Since Last IMPORT - DTS/Stored Procs?

Jan 7, 2004

Hello:

I am not sure how to implement the following, but I believe it entails using DTS, and hopefully it is fine that I post it here b/c ultimately I will need this backend data for my frontend .aspx pages:

On a weekly basis, I need to IMPORT some data located on a remote Oracle DB into SQL Server 2k. Since there is so much data to transfer, I would only like to transfer the data that is new to the table since the last IMPORT, i.e. a week ago and leave behin the OLD data.

Is DTS the correct way to go or do I have more control via DTS with STORED PROCEDURES? Does anyone have any good references for me?

On a similar note, once this Oracle data is IMPORTED into a certain table, I would like to EXPORT some of these NEWLY acquired rows matching certain criteria into another table for auditing purposes. For this scenario, should I implement a TRIGGER UPDATE event here on the first table?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Error Regarding File Import Through Import Wizard

Jan 12, 2006

Hi all,

when trying to ímport files to our database server from a client, I keep getting an error:

- Validating (Error)
Messages
Error 0xc00470fe: Data Flow Task: The product level is insufficient for component "Source_txt" (1).

Error 0xc00470fe: Data Flow Task: The product level is insufficient for component "Data Conversion 1" (175).
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

... doing the same import when logged on the server, hasn't been giving me any errors, how come. I can from my client without trouble import tables from other DB servers but when ever it is files it won't do it.

I tried as mentioned in other threads rerun setup to re-install SSIS, but as it was already installed it wouldn't re-install. My next move would be to make a clean install, but not sure it would help, as I think this is a buck.

best regards

Counting # Of Imported Rows For Each Import Process

Nov 25, 1998

hi, I am importing data daily to many tables, I want to keep track of the #of rows for each import process. I already have created a trigger as follow:
CREATE TRIGGER tr_bcp_log ON dbo.A
FOR INSERT
AS

declare @name varchar(30),
@row_count int

select @name=name , @row_count= @@rowcount
from inserted

insert into bcp_tracks (name,row_count)
values(@name,@row_count)
GO

The problem is that I am getting a row for each inserted row in table A.for instance if I have 500 rows in table A, I will get 500 rows in the log table like this
table_name,#of rows
A 1
A 1
A 1
etc up to 500 rows for table A

This is not what I want, I want to capture the num of rows for every bcp process , so in the log table I want to see the following :
table_name, #of rows
A 500
B 600
C 450
A 250
etc

Any help ?

thanks

Ignore First 6 Rows In Excel Import In SSIS Pkg.

Jul 3, 2007

I have an SSIS package that imports from an Excel file with data beginning in the 7th row.

Unlike the same operation with a csv file ('Header Rows to Skip' in Connection Manager Editor), I can't seem to find a way to ignore the first 6 rows of an Excel file connection.

I'm guessing the answer might be in one of the Data Flow Transformation objects, but I'm not very familiar with them.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Header Rows To Skip On Flat File Import/Export

Aug 29, 2006

Just attempting to import a simple tab delimited text file into my SQL Server 2005 database using the SQL Server Import and Export wizard. Column names are specified within the first line of the file. The Header Rows to Skip field value is listed as 0, but the wizard indicates that "The field, Header rows to skip, does not contain a valid numeric value".

Why isn't zero (0) a valid numeric value? I don't want to skip any rows. PLUS, I get the same error when trying to export to a text file although the header rows to skip field does not exist. I can increase the number to 1 or more, but the wizard will skip part of my data .. unacceptable.

What am I missing here? I installed SP1 of SQL server 2005, but that did not help.

Thanks in advance.

How Can I Import Records From A Sql Server Table In Project1 To Another Sql Server Table In Project2

May 24, 2007

Hi, i have a table with all employee bio-data in a completed project. Iam now working on another project with a table that needs the same data and here iam talking about 300 records that rarely change. Instead of re-entering this data in this new table, i want to import the data from the completed project into a table in this new project. Does any one have any idea how to achieve that or is there a better option to do the same.
One more thing iam realising here is that iam going to use this same data in very many applications and some one from one department is going to enter this data in all these different applications. so i was wondering if there could be a way of having a central database that this guy can mantain and then i be able to use that table data in different applications that iam going to develop. I dont want to kill this unlucky guy with data entry tasks every time i deploy a new application.
So basically, how can make one database application sever several different applications with its data.

Import DBF Via DTS

Aug 27, 2002

Hi,

I've never used DTS before, but would like to employ it to do a rather complicated data import (well complicated in my opinion).

I need to use DTS to import rows from a DBF File into a SQL Table. These DBF files reside on a separate server and can only be operated on once copied to another location so they aren't in an open state. Specifically I want to append the data from the DBF file into a SQL table. That is, a program writes data to a DBF file, and I want to import the new data not yet imported into SQL since the previous import. Another issue is that these DBF files change filenames (table names) every month. In other words, every month a new DBF table is created with the month number in the table name. I would have to import those, but make sure before I do so that all the rows from the previous month's table have been imported and then import the current month. Where I am find myself having the real problem is that in the DBF file, each row doesn't have a primary key I can reference it with. Only way to distinguish one row from another is to reference two columns, a timestamp and account number, those two columns can never be the same in another row. So I am not sure how to keep track of which row to start importing data from the DBF file.

Of course, lastly I'd like to automate this entire process so it happens every minute or two.

Hope that makes sense. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

All other files except one file copies less no of rows to the database every time , than it has in the text file. All other files having either less or greater amount of data transfers it properly.I do not know why this happens to only one file.

Colmn delimiter used is | and row delimiters used is .

BCP is being run through a batch file.

Any idea how to solve this?
