DTS Kick All The Way Out
May 27, 2003
I have a SQL Server 2000 that is used in a web application. It has IIS5 on it and SQL 2000 SP3. I need to make a change to one of the DTS packages. It needs to remap some of the columns in transformations for an export to a text file. Anytime I click on the "create columns for mapping button, it kicks me completely out of SQL Sever. Tried to create a separate package to complete just this step and same thing happens. Reapplied sp3 , still same results. Tried both SQL , sa and winnt admin accounts, still a problem. Anyone seen this before?

Is it possible to execute a DTS Package from ASP?
For example, if a user went to my website and clicked a button, it'd execute the DTS package? Thanks.

I'm looking to run something outside of the agent that will determine whether or not the backup ran. I will probably create a sp and run it from the command line as a scheduled job. However, I'm having a little trouble when it comes time to compare the max(run_date) from the sysjobhistory table in msdb with the current date. The info is stored in sysjobhistory as an int (for example, July 6, 2002 is stored as 20020706). I can run a datepart command on the getdate function to get something like this 200276. These dates of course are the same, but naturally they do not equal each other through a comparison (I'm converting both to varchar for the compare). Is there any formatting that could get me 20020706 from my datepart command - or is there a better way of doing this altogether?

Greetings,
I have a procedure that gathers a data set for a given date range. I then loop through the temp table and build comma delimited text files for each "group" There could be 10 or there could be 1000 files and i will never know the file names until they are actually created. These files gets placed in a zip file and mailed to the specified recipients. This all works just fine.
However, this data is intended to be imported to another application that expects an Excel format and it will not settle for calling the files *.XLS. It knows that they are just comma delimited text files and freaks out. I'm looking for some easy way to create these files the proper way so this application will accept them. If it was just a single file in question I wouldn't care but since there can be so many it could be very time consuming for a user to open Excel, manipulate the file (remember, there may be 10 and there may be 1000), save it, etc. Why use a computer at all if so much manual intervention is required?
Anyone have any suggestions? I've looked in to DTS but I'm not sure it will work because as I've said, I won't knwo the names of the files until all the data is gathered and they are built blah blah blah.

Is there a T-SQL command to kick all users out of a database while I run an update?
One other thing, and this is probably a network issue, is there any way to pass a message to the users prior to kicking them out, so they can complete what they were doing?
Thanks
Melt

Hello, I was wondering if someone can help me with an ASP.NET question. We have been having troubles with our web server, and I don't know where else to turn. We are running an asp.net (vb.net) with IIS on our Web Server. We are running Sql Server 2005 / SSIS on our Database Server.SQL Server and IIS are running on separate machines. This is by design. We are trying to get our Asp.net to kick off an SSIS package, but we are unable to do this since the software is on separate servers.(If both are installed on the web server, we can directly call the SSIS package. If both are installed on the Database Server, we can implement a web service on the Database Server, and call that web service from the Web Server.)Thank you, ~Le

Hi,
Here's my problem. I have 2 tasks defined in my Control Flow tab:
EXECUTE SQL--------->EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE
When I attempt to run it, by right-clicking the EXECUTE SQL task, and selecting "Execute Task", it only runs the EXECUTE SQL part (successfully), and does not "kick off" the EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE, after it is done running (even though it completes successfully, as shown by the green box).
Yes, they are connected by a dark green arrow, as indicated in my diagram above.
Why is this?? Am I missing something here? Need help.
THANKS
