How can i configure DTS package elements at run time through VB6..?
Like Specifying the Source,Destination etc
This one I hope is easy, but I've been working late and it seems to be aluding me. I have a field called time_in which is a char(6) field type. This field holds time elements such at 10:57
My query below is substracting one hour from Time_In and returning it as Hold_Time. I only want to return the time element without the date portion or the milliseconds, etc.
Code Block
select substring(cu.time_in, 1,5) as time_in,
DATEADD(hour, -1, substring(cu.time_in, 1,5)) as hold_time
from reports.careunits_hold_hours cu
[Current Result Set]
Time_In hold_time
10:57 1900-01-01 09:57:00.000
[Desired Result Set]
Time_In hold_time
10:57 09:57
I have a report that is embedded in a .net 2.0 web form. It works. I would like to be able to modify some of the elements in the report as the web form loads. I have tried the following code that did NOT work:
Dim myImage1 As New Image
myImage1 = Me.ReportViewer1.FindControl("Image1")
myImage1.ImageUrl = "Images/small_info_logo.jpg"
Does anyone know of a site that has some godo examples and object models on how to do this?
Thanks
Chuck

what i want is for every half hour between start and end a record

11.00 action1
11.30 action1
how can i create this, i'm a little stuck on this
Hi,
I'm fairly new to the SSIS world, and I've recently ported a bunch of dts packages over to SSIS. I'm an ASP.NET developer so I'm very familiar with the capabilities that configuration files give you, and I attempted to set up my solution as follows:
All of my "Data Sources" are at the project level, and added (with the same name) to each package. I wanted to have a single config file that had all of the project-level settings (i.e. connection strings, data file paths, etc). I then have a config for each package with the package level settings - i.e. variables, etc.
The problem becomes that all packages do not use all data sources. This results in an error when I try to open up a package for editing, it complains that it doesn't have a reference to data source XYZ that it is seeing in the configuration file.
Is there any way that I can get around this? If I have a password to a database change, I don't want to have to look through every config file and change it in multiple places.
how can i get the package execution start or end time along with DATE as a derived column into the output table.
i tryed using getdate() as expression but it gives diff time as my pkg runs in a loop.
and i see a sys variable STARTTIME which just gives time.
any help appriciated
thanks
Hello all, I have a SSIS package that is importing data from a DB2 database. I am using SSRS (BIDS/VS2005). I want to be able to access the last time a particular package ran in my report, like in the footer of the page. I have found the globals.executiontime for grabbing the time the report was ran.
I want to do the same thing, except I want to call the date/time the last import was made to the database. Is there some easy way to grab that from SSIS, or will I need to maybe reference the DB creation time? (The database is dropped and recreated (for now anyway) in the SSIS package.)
Thanks for your help.
Okay, we have are running our Master Package (and therefore all related Child packages) through a .bat file. The .bat file is scripted using the following logic for an entire month of daily runs:
Code Snippet
DTExec /FILE E:ETLFinancialDataMartMaster.dtsx /DECRYPT masterpwd /SET Package.Variables[ReportingDate].Value;"2/01/2007" > E:ETLErrorLogsProcessingetl_20070201log.txt
IF NOT %ERRORLEVEL%==0 GOTO ERROR%ERRORLEVEL%
mkdir E:ETLErrorLogsArchive20070201
move E:ETLErrorLogsProcessing*.txt E:ETLErrorLogsArchive20070201
DTExec /FILE E:ETLFinancialDataMartMaster.dtsx /DECRYPT masterpwd /SU /SET Package.Variables[ReportingDate].Value;"2/02/2007" > E:ETLErrorLogsProcessingetl_20070202log.txt
IF NOT %ERRORLEVEL%==0 GOTO ERROR%ERRORLEVEL%
mkdir E:ETLErrorLogsArchive20070202
move E:ETLErrorLogsProcessing*.txt E:ETLErrorLogsArchive20070202

Generally it takes about 40-45 minutes to run one days worth of data. However, we have found unpredictable instances where the job will take 3 hours or even 6 hours and appear to hang....
The weirdness sets in when we kill the job and rerun it. In all instances of a rerun, the job will execute in the normal 40-45 minute time frame. Obviously, we would like to institute some sort of logging, monitoring and error handling....including if need be a method to timeout a process and restart it.
I am reviewing the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) Task but I'm not entirely convinced that it's the right tool for the job.
Questions:
Has anyone else experienced the type of processing behavior that I described?
Has anyone been successful at using WMI or another process to monitor and timeout packages? If so, are there sample packages or a good tutorial that maps it out?
Unrelated to this issue, we also have instances incomplete processing logs. The logs don't finish writing and the weird part is that they all end at the same point, does anyone have experience with incomplete job logs?:

I''m working on a data conversion process and trying to convert data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g. The problem I'm encounterin g is that when I go from SQL to Oracle with a date into a Timestamp field in Oracle, it errors out. Not because it's only Timestamp, Oracle accepts dates in that field type. I don't know why this is happening, but I'm sure someone else has run into this...thoughts?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello All,I am am having a strange problem. I am trying to execute a DTS packagefrom VB .NET (.aspx) page. The DTS package takes 21 minutes to execute.When the aspx page sends a command to MS SQL server to execute this DTSpackage it starts executing. After 8 minutes the .aspx page shows error"Cannot Find Server" and errors out with a white screen. Theinetresting thing is the DTS package is still being executed in backendand completes execution successfully.I have no clue why this is happening because there are other DTSpackages that I am executing through the same .aspx page that takesabout 3 minutes to complete execution and are working absolutely fine.By the way I have a stored procedure wrapper over every DTS package. Sowhen i have to execute a DTS package I execute a stored which inturnexecutes a DTS package.Thanks for reading my query. If you have any suggestions please let meknow.Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I have a DTS in SQL Server 2000, Where I am importing some data from a remote server (SQL 2000) to local server (SQL 2000).And this is working fine. it is taking max of 1 min to execute the package.
Now I have created the same DTS in sql server 2005 (SSIS) where the source server is sql server 2000 and the destination server is 2005.and I have created the ssis in that server. The same logic which i have created in sql 2000. But here it is taking almost 10 min to execute the package.
Where as the same in sql server 2000 taking max of 1 min. Why this happening.. Is there any configuration to execute the SSIS package.?
Dear all,
This is a beginner's question so bear with me - I have a SSIS package that builds an Analysis Services fact table - depending on user input, this table is either re-built from scratch or any additional records since it was last run are created.
Where is the best place to store the time a package was last run - in a seperate table in the database or somewhere in the fact table?
Sam
Dear friends,
Our package which at the time of normal execution takes 2-2:30 mins for fetching data on VPN with some select queries. But some times its job runs for hours and hours. What could be the exact reason behind it? I guess its queries are stuch somewhere, but not when we run from the BIDS or run the job manually.
Please help. Thanks.
Hello,
I am using SSRS 2005 SP2 and I need to allow my users to select the products they want in the report.
I created a data set to get the list of the products and then used it in a multivalue parameter to generate a drop down list.
My problem is that the list is too long (more than 2000 elements) and thus, it takes 10 sec to collapse the drop down list after tickinging the products.
Does anyone have an miraculous solution?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I am working on a project developing a fairly large number of reports with a team of developers. Many of these reports have common elements and code, such as common headers with user-selectable colors. Additionally, many of the common parts of the reports are at mockup stage currently, and many features will have to be added to the reports as time goes on.
We're attempting to create a generalized framework that will minimize the duplication of effort as we develop these reports, and as we go back and modify or fix them later.
What is the best way to approach this?
My first attempt was to create a report template and base all the reports off of the same template. That was fine for the first pass, but as we need to make changes later, they will not be propagated to the already existing reports.
My second attempt was to have each componant of that template reference a subreport, so that changes to the actual report template will be minimized as we go forward. This works great for minimizeing work, but it appears that you lose many features with the use of subreports, and there seems to be a pretty serious performance impact as well. I have posted about one such issue here: Pagination
If anyone has pointers about how to go about this, and where I should start, they would be greatly apreciated!
I have created a DTS package. I want to know how to call/run this package from a stored procedure.
Please let me know how to call this DTS from a Stored Procedure.
Thanks.

I have a package variable that is a datetime... how am I able to set the time of that variable? In visual studio on the variables screen if I click on value it brings up a calendar control - I can't seem to edit the time portion of the variable.
When I first click open the variables window it will say 9/1/2006 12:00:00 AM - but as soon as I click on the value box the 12:00:00 AM part will disappear and I can't edit it. I've tried on someone elses PC as well to make sure there isn't something wrong with my visual studio
Ideas?
I have several sequence containers in one package that fire off execute package tasks. I would like each of the sequence containers to start at the same time when the job starts running. However when I set them up to do that, i get an error that the variable cannot be read because it is locked. I have the variables setup as readonly so not sure why they are being locked. When I run the package and have each sequence container fire off after the previous one ends it runs fine.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
Thanks!

Does the validation time of DTSX package depend on the amount of data?
I have a data transfer task which contains a oledb source data from a SQL Server 2005 view. Then the data go through 3 Lookup transfromations before going into another view, also on SQL Server 2005 but a different database.
The purpose of this package is to load fact data, so it has to deal with few million of rows. Before setting DelayValidation to true, it takes few minutes just to open the package in BI Studio. Now with DelayValidation set to false, I can open the package without any problem. But it takes more than 5 minutes during Validation, Prepare for Execution and Pre-execution Phase. During the time the memory usage and cpu time on SQL Server goes up significantly. The CPU doesn't hit 100% though. My client machine doesn't have any significant activity.
I have similar packages ( Oledb view -> 3 or 4 lookup Transformations -> Oledb Table) but dealing with dimension data. With DelayValidaion set to False, those packages can be opened in BI Studio within few seconds. They also take only few seconds during those 3 phases before starting actual execution phase.
So I have an impression that the validation time depends on the amount of data in the database. Shouldn't it just depends on the metadata?
Hi
Can I limit an SSIS package that should run only for specific time, if it exceeds then should stop.
Ex. mySSIS.dtsx should run only 5 min, if exceeds 5 min it should stop running and exit.
Thanks,
Madhu
I load SSIS package using following code:
Application app = new Application();
Package pac = app.LoadFromSqlServer(packageName, serverName, null, null, null);
For simple package containing 2 tasks this code executes about 20 seconds.
If I load old version (SQL2K) package from SQL2000 then it takes 5 seconds.
Is any way to increase loading speed for SSIS packages?
Hi, I use the FOR XML AUTO to retrive native XML from a database with:
SELECT [xml] FROM myxml WHERE id = 81 FOR XML AUTO, elements, root('ROOT')"
However it returns the database name and table name as parent elements. How can I return just my raw XML data without additional elements:
XML is Stored:
<ROOT>

</ROOT>
Returns:
<databasename>
<tablename>
<ROOT>
<CHAPTER>
<TITLE>This is a test</TITLE> </CHAPTER>

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfternoon,
Can anyone relay to me if there is a max number of elements that are allowed within an IN clause?
Example would be:
SELECT * FROM tblMyTable WHERE ID_Number IN (1,2,3,4,5,...150,000)
where we list all 150,000 numbers between the ( ).
Thanks!
Is it possible to suppress the output of certain report elements when the report is printed or exported? I want a particular image element that has a hyperlink to be visible when the report is viewed within RS's ReportViewer, but don't want it to show up on the printed or exported file. I figure, if this is even possible, the most obvious methods would be either:
1. Put the element in the page header or footer, then set up the page header or footer to not show up on the printed or exported report.
2. Put the element anywhere on the report, and set it to hidden when the report is printed or exported.
Are either of these possible? If not, is there another way to accomplish this?
Thanks,
Don
Has anyone run across this before? I'm missing the Contents and Properties tab along with the button bar containing the "New Folder", "New Data Source", "Upload File" and "Show Details" buttons in the Report Manager. Also, which I think may be related, when I attempt to deploy a report I get the error: "A connection could not be made to the report server http://MyServer/Reports.

Any suggestions would be great.
