I've mined countless threads all over the Net where people are having my problem, but none of the solutions I've seen seem to apply.
When I run a DTS package from Enterprise Manager, everything works great. When I schedule the same package as a job, it fails immediately and reports this error:
Executed as user: SERVER-NAMESYSTEM. DTSRun: Loading... Error: -2147221005 (800401F3); Provider Error: 0 (0) Error string: Invalid class string Error source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package Help file: sqldts80.hlp Help context: 713. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.
My hunch is the SERVER-NAMESYSTEM.DTSRun account doesn't have sufficient privileges, but I can't find how/where to fix that.
I was facing some issue on MP. Yesterday I changed the SQL services to use the local admin account. That didn't help my MP issue. But it may have created another issue. When I run the package manually/locally it runs fine. But the scheduled job run and fails with the Title string. --------------------------------- Executed as user: IL06EDM00SYSTEM. ...tart: DTSStep_DTSExecuteSQLTask_1 DTSRun OnStart: DTSStep_DTSExecuteSQLTask_2 DTSRun OnStart: DTSStep_DTSExecuteSQLTask_3 DTSRun OnError: DTSStep_DTSExecuteSQLTask_2, Error = -2147467259 (80004005) Error string: Login failed for user '(null)'. I have a package designed as bring data tables over to SQL Server. There are 9 data flow tasks that runs parallel, to bring 9 datatables over. In BIDS, when I execute the package, it runs like 8 minutes. Or if I start the scheduled job manually, it runs around 8 minutes too. But it runs about 30 minutes at the scheduled time at midnight.
I wonder what I can do to speed up the scheduled job.
I've created a SSIS package that calls the access dll and fires off 2003 access reports, saves them as PDF's and emails them off.
Now this works fine when I run it manually, but when I schedule and fire off a job I get a very vague error "exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation".
I have copied the access dll to the GAC and .net framework v2.0.50727 but still no luck.
I'm using Bull zip PDF printer and those DLL's are also in the GAC
I have a stored procedure that syncs 2 databases. It runs fine if I go into the stored procedures and execute it manually, there are a few errors but it doesnt choke on them it completes with the desired end result. However if I create a job to run this dbo, it fails, The error log shows this:

So the error is 3621, and the severity is 14 which as I understand it means Insufficient Permissions.
I have already tried this: Making the Job Agent service logon as MACHINeNAME/Administrator instead of System, giving the user here (companyname) more permissions, but I am at a loss as to why this runs ok when manually executed but fails when run as a job. I have created the job by scripting the dbo "Execute to a file" and having the job run that file as a step, I have also tried copying and pasting the code from the stored procedure into the job step. It always fails for the same reason.
I must say I am very new to SQL, I am a network admin and have inherited this database and server from another client and have to get this sync task to run daily at certain intervals.
Please can anyone shed light on this issue? Thanks,
My client has a number of jobs that are run overnight. We've set themup to email me when they're completed. Does anyone have anyidea of why that might be? Where to look for diagnostic information?TIAEdward
I have a 7 step SSIS package that manipulates some data on a DB2 database. The package executes perfectly in Business Intelligence Development Studio. I save the package to my SSIS store and then point my scheduled task to it and it fails after about 9 seconds everytime. I have an identical job that works with a different DB2 database that works without any problem. The only difference is the database it's pointing to.
The package is executing as the same user who created it, which has sysadmin to both the SSIS store and the SQL instance the package is executing on. When I saved the package I selected "Rely on server storage roles for access control" for the protection level.
This one is driving me crazy, can't figure it out. Any idea's?
I am using SQL 2005. I have created a SSIS package that basically executes another SSIS package (as part of a larger package) . It runs fine in SSBIDS but will not run if I save it and schedule it using SQL Agent. I should mention I am using a domain/admin account with SQL Agent, so I don't think that is the problem.
When I execute the job in SSBIDS, the Execute Package Utility window pops up, at which point I click on the Execute button, the job runs successfully and then I click on the close button.
I suspect it is not running via SQL Agent because of the user intervention required to complete the task (i.e. clicking on execute as described above). Is this correct? If so, is there a way to override the requirement for any user intervention. Or, could it be from something else?
I have a problem where I have an SSIS package (SQL Server 2005) that won't run properly from SQL Server Agent, but it runs fine when kicked off manually from Integration Services -> Run Package or when run in debug from Visual Studio.
The first step in the package checks for the existance of a file via a script task. The script looks like this...
Code Block Public Sub Main()
Dim TaskResult As Integer Dim ImportFile As String = CStr(Dts.Variables("BaseDirectory").Value) + CStr(Dts.Variables("ImportDirectory").Value) + CStr(Dts.Variables("ImportFile").Value)
If Dir(ImportFile) = "" Then Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure Else Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success End If
Return
End Sub
This script runs fine and the file is seen as expected when I run the package manually. But as a step in a SQL Server Agent job, it doesn't see the file.
The SQL Server Agent service is set to start up / log on as a Local System Account. I've also tried setting up a credential / proxy (using an account that I know can see and even move / rename the file) to run the job as but that didn't seem to help.
The package is being run from SQL Server (stored in MSDB) and is set to rely on SQL Server for sensitive information, so I don't think that's an issue; other packages are set up like this in terms of sensitive data and run fine.
Any ideas why my script can't "see" the file I'm looking at when it's kicked off by SQL Server agent? I've looked and looked...I can't seem to figure this out. I would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer up.
All: As the subject suggests I am encountering an error while running a package through an agent. Unfortunately the error does not provide much information for me to diagnose the problem, and hence the post.
I have pasted the error below and appreciate help from anyone.
Thank you,

I have scheduled a job in Management Studio, but it doesn't work. However, when I run it maually in Visual Studio it works. I have connected an outside server by mapping it to mine. Maybe this is the problem?
I have also tried to configure a linked server, but I cannot find out how to connect my SSIS package to the linked server.
My DTS Package work fine if I Execute it manually, but I need to do it automatically just after midnight. I defined my schedule and made sure the job was present in the SQL Server Agent>Jobs, but it fails and the Job History shows the following error:

I have created a package that takes a Visual FoxPro .dbf and imports into SQL7. If I run the job, it works fine. If I schedule the job it fails stating that I can't find the .dbf, the same one that it just found when run manually. What gives?
Hello, I have scheduled job that are scheduled to run every 2 hours. Its exec stored procedures. Normal execution time is up to 10 min. But recently job not running successfully, it’s just executes forever. So I had to kill that job and I run it manually. Please help, I have no idea why it stops executing on its own by the schedule.
I have a Local DTS Package that I created that runs fine. I have scheduled it to run daily but it errors out when run it from the agent. This is an excerpt of the error from the Job history.
Delete from Table [Intranet].[dbo].[Employees] Step, Error = -2147217887 (80040E21)
This Local DTS Package, deletes the records in the file and reimports the data from an AS400 file that is recreated for me daily.
The only thing that has occured to me so far is that perhaps the SQL Agent Service Account needs permission to delete the records. (I'm using NT Security).
Am I on the right track or do you think it's something else?
I found some similar threads and guides but they didn€™t help me with my special problem.
I converted a dts package (built in SQL 2000) to SQL 2005. Right now it€™s a legacy package. (I tried the Tool Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components to open the package. It€™s going well)
I would like to build a scheduled job which runs this dts package. In SQL 2000 you can right click on the package and create the job. SQL created string like this: Dtsrun ASDFHJKSF56A4DFSLAKDHFJKS65646ASDFHSF (very long sting, it€™s the ID of the dts package)
How can I make something like this in SQL 2005? Where I can get the ID of a dts package from?
Best Regards, Alex
p.s. - I red the thread from Jamie Thomason and will directly mark as answer after I get a answer - of cource I will delete my thread too if I overlooked a thread with the same issue
We have a Process Task component setup in a couple SSIS jobs to call a command batch file to support transfering a file via Secure FTP to other servers and the process works fine if we start the SQL Agent job manually, however when the job is started via the scheduler, it fails with an exit code of 4. Even though there is a proxy setup on the agent job, is there a different user account being invoked by the scheduler??? We're on 2005 SP1 Hotfix 1 (2153). Thanks
Some more info...have found that if we leave a login session open on the server (login is the proxy account) the process works. It appears the issue is associated with a need to render/create a command window for the command line/batch process to run in and without an active windows session it fails....would seem to be that a product setup to run on a server in a batch mode would be able to work without this...is this the case? if so, how? Thanks.
I have an SSIS package created from a SQL 2000 DTS using the Migration Wizard. The package imports data from a MySQL database to a SQL 2005 64-bit database running on 64-bit windows server 2003. The package runs fine when executed from SQL Server Management Studio but when I schedule it as a job it fails with:
Executed as user: [the domain admin account]. The package execution failed. The step failed.
I've tried a lot of different ways to make this work including creating a new SSIS package. Again, the package ran fine except when it was scheduled as a job.
I have one maintenance plan for full backup to run at midnight daily, but somehow it runs another one at 11:40PM which I don't have plan for it. I can see it happened twice by opening job history. They all use same maintenance plan.
The only difference, I can see is in the message, one is "The job succeeded. The job was invoked by Schedule 112(Daily Backup.subplan_1)", the one I did not expect has message "The job succeeded.
The job was invoked by user sa". How to find this job that invoked by user sa and delete it? Again I can only see one job for full backup , but I can see it happened twice from view job history.
I have a job scheduled that imports a table from a Oracle database. The job runs at 3am and reports success. But for some reason when i query the table to see how many records there are, I see the same row count as the day before (it should increase everyday- student enrollment). When i execute the package manually, the table updates fine.

SQL Server Agent is set to Logon As my domain account, and in the package history it says "logged on as " my account.
I'm trying to run a job which moves data from one machine to another. I can manually execute the package successfully, but the job always fails. I get the dreaded error message 18456, "login failis for user "". I have double checked the logins for both machines,(sql server agent AND the sql server authentication). Also, I can run a select statement (from server_ to server_2) successfully from query analyzer i.e.
Select * from <linked_server_name>.<database>.<database_owner>.<table_name>
however, if I run this query from server_2 to server_1 I get the failed login message similar to the error message found in the job history. Since both servers accept nt logins, where is my problem? They are both set up as linked servers, and they are both mssql oledb. Any suggestions will be appreciated! thanks
Like the name says, I'm trying hard, but I'm obviously missing something. Okay, I'm new to SSIS. I'm trying to write a job that deletes some Excel files on the server, copies some Excel files from a Sharepoint instance to the location where the deleted files were, runs an executable to manipulate those files, and then imports them to my SS instance.
the package runs fine when I run it from Managment Studio after installing it on the server. The 'execute task' fails when I run the job containing the package. After creating a proxy to have the SQL Server agent Service run with appropriate permissions, I thought I would have been rid of permissions issues (I gave the proxy way too much permission in an effort to narrow in on my issue), but I could still be missing something.
The job doesn't get into the package enough to even start writing to my log file, and all I get in the job history is the very cryptic 'DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1) ' error. If anyone has ideas, I would greatly appreciate being shown the error of my ways.

I have a number of test databases which were created from the same backup. Set up SQLMaint to run on them each night. SQL Maint seems to run clean on all of them, but on two the Scheduled Task shows "Failed". All tasks have been set up exactly the same.
Has anyone run into something like this?
Here's the output from the maintenance job for one of the failing db's:

I have created an SSIS package which, as its 2nd step, picks up a .dbf table and does a Data Flow Task of putting the .dbf table into a SQL Server 2005 table (which was just truncated in Step 1).
The Connection Manager that works on the .dbf table is Native OLE DBMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
The entire SSIS package runs perfectly when i run it from my development environment.
I then assigned this Package to a SQL Server 2005 Job. The entire package is the sole step of the job.
But when I run the SQL Job, the Job fails immediately on Step 2.
Here is the error message in View History of the SQL Job:

I have a DTS local package that transfer data from the host SQL server to another. If I run the package directly (i.e. Right click - Execute Package) everything works as it should.
However, if I try and execute this as a Server Agent job it fails, the job history step details shows the following error:

Whilst this is obviously a connection issue, I dont understand how this can work if executed directly and not if executed as an agent job.
Can anybody shed any light on this?
If it helps this is the sequence of events my DTS package uses
1) Connect to remote DB 2) Drop table customers 3) Create new remote customers table 4) Connect to to local DB (hosting the DTS package) 5) Select * from local customers table 6) Dump data from local select into remote DB
I have a DTS job that moves a text file from a workstation to the SQL server, transforms the data, pumps into a table and then archives the file. It runs fine within EM on the SQL Server, but once scheduled fails immediately on Step 1. I have logged the error as follows:
************************************************** ********** The execution of the following DTS Package succeeded:
Step 'DTSStep_DTSActiveScriptTask_3' was not executed ************************************************** **********
I have taken the following actions to resolve: 1. Tested DTS job on local SQL Server - executes without error 2. Checked security: The DTS job is owned by me, and I am a member sysadmins, etc... The SQL Job I have tried several differing accounts (Mine, Domain Administrator, and most recently a proxy account I setup called SQLDTSuser) All have failed with the same error. 3. I have checked the SQL Agent account to ensure that it has necessary rights, stopped and started SQL Agent service, same results. 4. As mentioned I setup a Proxy Account which is in Domain Admins, and Sysadmins on SQL and changed SQL Agent Properties to use this account. result was same error. 5. Set Workflow Properties on the DTS job ActiveXtask to "Execute on Main PAckage Thread" - result was same error.
I'm at a loss I have to be overlooking something obvious, but need someone to hopefully point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for any help I can get!

Function Main() Dim fso Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Dim filePath filePath = DTSGlobalVariables("gv_SourceDir").Value & "" & SourceFileName If fso.FileExists(filePath) Then fso.MoveFile filePath, DTSGlobalVariables("gv_WorkDir").Value & "" & DTSGlobalVariables("gv_WorkFileName").Value Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success Else Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Failure End If End Function
Function SourceFileName Dim fileDate fileDate = DateAdd("d", -1, Date) SourceFileName = "LASERDATA" & PadLeft(DatePart("d", fileDate), 2) & PadLeft(DatePart("m", fileDate), 2) & Right(DatePart("yyyy", fileDate), 2) & ".CSV" End Function
Function PadLeft(Value, Length) Dim retval retval = Value Do While Len(retval) < Length retval = "0" & retval Loop PadLeft = retval End Function
I try to make SSSIS packages made on my pc accesible to an other user of SSIS (both running on Windows 2000). The packages are on a shared drive in our LAN.. Some configurationfiles are use to configure the Oracle DBconnection. The same files are on the same location on both PC's
The other user can open and run the packages but from the moment the lookup buffers are loaded, we get the following errors:
Error: 0xC0202009 at AB_ADDRESS_DF, LOOKUP_POST_ID [22801]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

I scheduled a Bulk copy operation, and have been getting some inconsistent failures.
Last night the job was set to run every 3 hours, I expect it to take about 1 hour to finish.
The second itteration of the job failed, the first and third ran fine. Here is the error from DTS
Any suggestions? Is there a better/stable Data Provider for SQL?

I have a SQL 2000 DTS package which executes without errors when run from the DTS design screen or by right clicking the package and selecting execute. When I schedule the package and get it to run at a certain time or highlight the job and select start, the package comes back with an error saying there was a problem with a transformation. I have tried scheduling the DTS by right clicking on it and selecting schedule and creating a new job and using DTSRun with an operating system command. I get the same results! Help!
I have a DTS package which when I execute it manually, it executes perfectly. I need to schedule it and therefore had to use the scheduler which would creata a job for the package. The problem is that job. It does not execute; it fails every time. The error message is: Sql server does not exist or access is denied.
I have tried to trouble-shoot by setting up an alias for the server in the client network utility for sql server. I also create a new dsn with the new alias. It still failed with the same error message. I edited the properties of the dts package to connect to the server's ip instead of it's alias or logical name. Still fails.
