Data Access :: Combining Tables Of 2 Separate Databases For ODBC Use
Apr 29, 2015
Currently we have one customer database containing various tables. As part of requirements for a new client, we need to manage their data in a totally separate database. The tables and structure are exactly the same but we would be loading data into a separate database.
I am looking for a way to combine tables with the same name in each database when I run queries, rather than having to query each database separately. Currently we actually have many queries set up in MS Access which use an ODBC link to query the data off SQL server. I am aware it is possible to apply a UNION SELECT in Access from 2 separate ODBC connections, but this is extremely slow.So my initial question is - is there a way to provide access to the tables from both databases over the same ODBC link? If this cannot be done over ODBC I guess we can consider more "modern" methods, but ideally we want to keep this in MS Access as that is where our existing queries are based. I was hoping that some kind of view can be treated as an ODBC connection.I mentioned ideally we want to keep the reporting queries in MS Access.
I have two databases that each contain the same tables, but different data in the tables. For example, each data contains a table with the same name, arcus, that holds data on our customers. Although the data is different in each table, there is some overlap, particularly in the area of customer number since that is assigned automatically when a customer is entered and serves as the primary key for that table.
To consolidate, I need to merge the two databases. How can I import the data from one table in second database into a table in the first database and append a number to the customer number so that all data will be brought across.
To better illustrate:
database one has an arcus file with a field cusno and contains cusno 1-50 database two has an arcus file with a field cusno and contains cusno 27-58
The overlapping cusno's are not the same customer.
How can I get all the cusno from the arcus file in database two to the arcus file in database one?
Hi.I'm currently working on a project which involves the creation of aweb page which reports selected data to customers from two back-endsystems. I use ASP script language on IIS, the server is MS SQL 2000.Now I'm struggling with combining two tables from the differentdatabases. I'm sure it's simple enough, but I'm a little short on theSQL expertise.I've got two databases, db1 and db2, and then two tables, db1.t1 anddb2.t2. I need to combine these two tables (both tables have amatching key field) to make a list of all items from db1.t1, and thosewho correspond from db2.t2.I can list all items from db1.t1, but I can't seem to get the db2.t2joined in.Can anybody help me with the syntax for this, please ? Help !Answers, hints & tips greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance !Kenneth
In database DB1, I have table DB1.dbo.Suppliers1. This table has an ID column of type INT named SUPPL1_ID
In database DB2, I have table DB2.dbo.Suppliers2. This table has an ID column of type INT named SUPPL2_ID I would like to update DB2.dbo.Suppliers2 based on values from DB1.dbo.Suppliers1 joining on SUPPL1_ID = SUPPL2_ID.
How can I do this in SSIS?
Assumptions:
linked servers are not an option, as I want the SSIS package to be portable and not dependent on server environments. TIA.
I am trying to do a really weird combination of an Append/Union query..I'm doing most of my commands through macros and queries.how to do a normal Append/Union/Create queries but I am trying to do something kind of weird. If table X has rows A, B, C, and D, and table Y has a column with rows 1, 2, 3, and 4... I need the values in table Y to be assigned to each individual row in table X. Is there a way to create a new table where the columns merge such that values can be assigned like:
I'm new to my company, although not new to SQL 2005 and I found something interesting. I don't have an ERD yet, and so I was asking a co-worker what table some data was in, they told me a table that is NOT in SQL Server 2005's list of tables, views or synonyms.
I thought that was strange, and so I searched over and over again and still I couldn't find it. Then I did a select statement the table that Access thinks exists and SQL Server does not show and to my shock, the select statement pulled in data!
So how did this happen? How can I find the object in SSMS folder listing of tables/views or whatever and what am I overlooking?
I have two tables (teachers, students) each table has 3 fields (FirstName, LastName, EMail). I'm trying to combine the data from both tables into one so I have a "master list" to send e-mails to all teachers and students via an ASP script/CDO.
I've been reading up on Joins but I can't figure out the SQL to combine data from both tables. Any ideas?
Hello all - I'm relatively new to SQL and has been struggling with the below query. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I have the following 2 tables:
I'm trying to get the below output:
Here's the SQL I've been using: SELECT a.PERSON_ID, sum(a.AMOUNT), CASE WHEN b.JOB_CODE = 10 then "Level 2 Seller" WHEN b.JOB_CODE = 15 then "Level 3 Seller" ELSE 'Level 1 Seller' END as "Job_Code" FROM tbl_SALES a, tbl_JOBFUNCTION b WHERE a.PERSON_ID = b.PERSON_ID GROUP BY a.PERSON_ID, b.JOB_CODE
Here's what my results are with the query I've been using:
Each person could have many job codes, but when they have 10 then they're consider "level 2". - If they have 15 then they're "level 3". - If they don't have either 10 or 15 then they're "level 1". - If they have both 10 and 15 they're still "level 3".
I have database with two different tables BaseData and QualityDetails as given below with ID as the Primary key BaseData.
Sent_to_Client Name ID 1/2/2015 ABC1 1000000 2/24/2015 ABC2 1000001 5/24/2015 ABC3 1000002 3/24/2015 ABC4 1000003
QualityDetails
ID Error 1000000 1 1000001 2 1000002 0 1000003 3
I want to write an SQL Query to get the data by combining both the tables by dates from 2/1/2015 to 5/30/2015 in BaseData table. My table after executing the query should be
ID Name Error 1000001 ABC2 2 1000002 ABC3 0 1000003 ABC4 3
I have a requirment to take data from a large set of tables where thetotal number of these tables may change on a regular baisis andoutput into another table. All the tables willl have the samecolumns. Frequency is being debated but it maybe as much as once perhour.Example1) I need to choose all the following tablesselect * from dbo.sysobjects where name like '_CPY%.2) then I need the followingfor each of the tables found above, I need the outfrom from each ofthose tables to be inputted into another table. basically, I wouldwant the following output from each of the tables found in step 1select machineid, name from _cpy_offermanager_6783) In the end I would have something like dbo.ALLCPY with recordscombined from all other _CPY tablesRon Sorrell
Well the first half of it I am able to retrieve meaning the 'Demand' part by pivoting it from the table request and the next part i.e. 'Supply' is also obtained in the similar fashion.
Tbl_User may contain more skill categories than those mentioned in Tbl_Request. So the output should reflect only those categories that are existing in tbl_Request. How can we combine the both? I have taken both the outputs in two temp tables. Now I would like to know if I can combine them and show it as one output or if there is any other better way of doing it.
I am using a stored procedure which is called for my web application so I didn't go for views. Can someone tell me how to do it.
I am trying to add 2 separate columns from separate tables i.e column1 should be added to column 2 when inserted and I want to use a trigger but i don't know the syntax to use...
Request is to merge or join or case stmt or union or... from up to four unique columns all in separate tables to new combined table (matrix) of results from said.
when i run this function i get an error : "You cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM database table to your database"
when i try to import in the same way a dbf file (insted the csv file) with VFP it's working well.
what seems to be the problem? how can i fix it? or if some one know how can i import a large csv file into access DB in an efficient diffrent way?
Actually I'm on the half way of making a portal and I get some problem I need your kindly helps. at first I use the membership feature of ASP.net 2.0 to have login and all so by default it has generate an ASPNETDB.MDF file which its is (Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient)) and also I have two more databases one for file managemnet and one for Calander and Contacts but I need all to be one so whenevr one user can login it can show his own file in his page but now everyone can see all,Can anybody guide me should it all be in one database and if yes how can I connect all since one is generated by default by Visual studio2005.Should I use a Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient)??? Thanks in advance.
Is there an easy way to combine to SQL databases? Both DBs have the same structure but different data. If there just so happens to be duplicate records what will happen? Does anyone have any idea of where I should start at?
I need to do a inner join on tables from two separate databases. I understand that you can do this by using this type of syntax: select a.col1, b.col2from db1.dbo.tab1 a, db2.dbo.tab2 bwhere a.col1 = b.col2however, how do I reference the two databases in the following code? Thanks, Tim
Function GetConnectionString() As StringDim ConnectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MainWeb").ConnectionString Return ConnectionString End Function Using conn As New SqlConnection(GetConnectionString()) conn.Open() Dim sql As String sql = "SELECT CaskInfo.CaskID, CoCInfo.CoCName, AmendmentInfo.AmendmentName FROM CaskInfo INNER JOIN CoCInfo ON CoCInfo.CoCID = CaskInfo.CoC INNER JOIN AmendmentInfo ON AmendmentInfo.AmendmentID = CaskInfo.Amendment WHERE "For i = 0 To UBound(words) If i > 0 Then sql = sql + " OR " sql = sql + "(CoCInfo.CoCName + ' ' + AmendmentInfo.AmendmentName) LIKE '%" + words(i) + "%'" Next ' lblResults.text = sql' Exit Sub Dim com As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(sql, conn) Dim result As SqlDataReader = com.ExecuteReader() Dim SearchResults As StringWhile result.Read() SearchResults = SearchResults + result.GetInt32(0).ToString + " " + result.GetString(1) + " " + result.GetString(2) + "<br>" End While result.Close() lblResults.text = SearchResults conn.Close() End Using
I have two databases with multiple tables. Same tables same fileds. Both databases contain records, but they should not match each other.(I will run a report for matches before this and delete any data thatis not current to ensure this is the case)How do I go about moving data from one of the databases to the other inorder to create a single database with all the data? Unfortunately mySQL is limited and I cannot image how I would work around the uniqueids. Append or update maybe? Thanks in advanceAndrew
I have very limited knowledge of sql server so my question is probably very basic. I have 3 database types with 3 different scripts to create these databases. The 3 applications that use these databases are very similar.
How do I create 1 master database that all 3 applications can use?
I've tried on SQL 2000 to run the first script then second & third but it did not seem to work.
Once I have the master database created, how do I create the 1 master script? Is it easier to create the database & script it or to copy & paste sections from the 3 scripts?
I am trying to setup an ODBC data source for Access. The server I'm trying to connect to is 2008 R2. I have SQL Server Management Studio installed on the computer where I'm trying to make the ODBC Data Source from. I can connect the the remote 2008 server through Management Studio, but in the ODBC wizard I do the following:
"Machine Data Source" tab, click "New" Select "User Data Source", click "Next >" Select "SQL Server", click "Next >" Click "Finish" Name: remote Description: remote Server: type the server name ie "sql.somewhere.com"
My task is simple, I want to use the execute sql task editor to grab a value from a database in Access and put it in a variable. The connection is via ODBC and the access database is protected by a password.
I've done all the preliminary stuff such as running profiler to make sure that the package is getting the call to the database, setting up the ResultSet to be "single row" in the general tab, mapped the Result Set correctly, but nothing works. I get the same error every time.
This is my sql command:
select count(FingerPrintID) as FingerPrint
from Employee
Result Set is set up like this:
Result Name: FingerPrint ; Variable Name: User:: varDataset
Here is the error I get:
Error: 0xC002F309 at Execute SQL Task, Execute SQL Task: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "varDataset": "Value does not fall within the expected range.".
My variable is set up as a Int16.
Please help!!!!!
If you could provide step by step example's that would really make my day.
The Classifieds starter kit supplied by microsoft has 2 databases - aspnetdb.mdf & classifieddb.mdf. How do I combine the two into one. I understand that there is now need to have two databases. I also understand that most hosting co's do not support Sql Server Express Any help offered is appreciated. Please offer help in a Dummies format - I might understand that
We have purchased an ERP system from a vendor which uses system DSN for all the reports. The system automatically creates DSN with Sa with SQL Server. The problem is the DSN is not working with AD users.
Active Directory server: Windows Server 2008 32 Bit.
SQL Server: Windows Server 2012 64 Bit. This server is already member of my Domain. e.g. CompDomain.com
What should I need to do in client PCs or Server to avail ODBC to AD users.
Hey all, I want to run a query that returns the count of records returned by two other queries. Having much trouble with this... I'm sure it's just a triviality. Thanks in advance...
I have an existing database with approx 500,000 rows and accessed by afew hundred users per day creating approx 1,000 new records per dayplus typical reporting - relatively low volume stuff for SQL Server.I'm about to add a process that will be importing data daily fromlegacy databases and summarizing it for reporting purposes, integratingit with the existing database. This volume of data will be considerablyhigher, perhaps 100,000+ rows per day, which will be deleted once ithas been summarized and the results written to some intermediatetables. Is there any concern about mixing different levels of volume within onedatabase? As I'll be creating lots of rows daily and then deleting themI was wondering about fragmentation, transaction logging etc. andwhether having this processing in a separate database from the mainapplication would be 'better'.
I have 2 DBs located on separate Sql Servers but the DBs are linked. I am querying data from both DBs but want to combine the results. Here is my query but it doesn't seem to be working.
(SELECT DISTINCT idname, name, address, address2, awardedtoname, suppno FROM contract INNER JOIN house ON contract.idname = house.idname) JOIN (SELECT DISTINCT tpd.PropertyNumber AS [Property No], tpd.Address1 + ' , ' + tpd.Address2 AS Estate, tpd.Address1 AS Address1,
I need help in creating a Data Source within SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 to connect to a Microsoft Access database. I'm sure the problem is an authentication issue, because the report works fine when previewed through Visual Studio 2005. But, through the report server browser front end I get the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Query execution failed for data set 'AssignedEmployees'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '...'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
The Access database happens to reside on the same server as the SQL Server instance. The query that it is invoking uses tables linked to other Access databases including one that is on the same server and another that is on a completely different server. The error listed above references the database that is linked from the main Access database and that is on the same server.
I tried various things to get it to work, but what it comes down to is that I do not know the proper way to create the Data Source to an Access database from SRS (especially where the Access database links to other Access databases). Can anyone provide the steps to do this properly?
