Reporting Services :: Formatting A Date Field To Just Show Date Not Minutes?

Jul 6, 2015

A date field in a report returns the date value as:

2015-07-01 13:30:27.000

Is there any way I can script this to appear as:

01 July 2015 (or 01-07-2015 or 01/07/2015)  - basically to cut out the hours, minutes and seconds?

The best I have managed is: CONVERT (varchar(17),DATE,113) AS Date1 but this still leaves me with:

01 July 2015 13:30

Convert Seconds To Hour And Minutes Format

Feb 15, 2008

I have a column of data that is the number of seconds. I need to format this column into the HH:MMS format. If there are 130 seconds the second column should read 00:02:10. How can I accomplish this in report builder or is it even possible in Report builder? I can use the following formula in SQL but is there a way to do it in Report Builder?

CONVERT(varchar(6), talktime / 3600) + ':' + RIGHT('0' + CONVERT(varchar(2),

talktime % 3600 / 60), 2) + ':' + RIGHT('0' + CONVERT(varchar(2), talktime % 60), 2)

Convert Text Data To Date Format

Nov 13, 2013

I've got a field I'm trying to convert into a date format as it currently sits as a text field. The date setup is of the format DD/MM/YYYY. Some of the fields are NULL, however for the sake of filling in gaps I've just set the nulls to '01-01-1905'.

I've tried to use CAST to change the data into a readable format for SQL Server however I tend to get one of two messages:

Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.

Using DTS package in 2000 version, I am dumping TXT file contents into SQL Table,

Convert String To Date Independent Of Date Format

Feb 15, 2008

Hi,

I Have this simple convertion in a Script component

Dts.Variables("dateOfProcess").Value = CDate(lineMCF.Substring(30, 2) + "/" + lineMCF.Substring(28, 2) + "/" + lineMCF.Substring(24, 4))

this works fin in my development environment which has a spanish version of SQL Server and uses "DD/MM/YYYY" as date format.

but the production environment has an english version of SQL Server and "MM/DD/YYYY" date format, so the package crashes in this server.

How do I convert the string to date not depending on the SQL server language.

Convert Date Format Of 00-XXX-00 To NULL

Apr 14, 2006

Let me start by saying that I'm brand new to SQL Server 2005 and SSIS. I'm using the import wizard in SQL2005 to import from a flat file into a table and everything works fine except for dates. A typical date in my flat file is 01-JAN-06. 01 represents the day of the week, JAN represents the month and 06 represents the year. The flat file also contains date values of 00-XXX-00 which represent no date. For example a column containing last purchase date data would look like this:"DateOfLastOrder"
"01-JAN-06"
"02-JAN-06"
"00-XXX-00"
"03-DEC-05"The value of 00-XXX-00 means that there is no purchase date.I want to bring these columns into my table and replace the 00-XXX-00 values with a NULL.

The table Data Type is datetime.

If I use the import wizard using the example above I get this error message:

- Copying to [cpstest].[dbo].[date] (Error)
Messages
Error 0xc0202009: Data Flow Task: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

Error 0xc0047021: Data Flow Task: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0209029.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

If I remove the 00-XXX-00 values and import something like this:

"DateOfLastOrder"
"01-JAN-06"
"02-JAN-06"
"03-DEC-05"

The import is successfull and the dates look correct in a querry.

SELECT *
FROM date

date

2006-01-01 00:00:00.000
2006-01-02 00:00:00.000
2005-12-03 00:00:00.000

(3 row(s) affected)

Does anyone know how I should go about getting these date columns into a datetime table and convert the 00-XXX-00 values into NULLs?

Thank you,

Ryan

Convert Date In The Format Eg: 14AUG2007

Feb 5, 2008

How can I format a date in the format 14AUG2007 ?

The data is comming in from a CSV as a string. I am happy to get the day and year, its just converting the month (eg "AUG") into I a valid number.

I was thinking Lookup, but that only seems to work against a datasource. I can create a lookup table for it to work against but that seemed a bit clunky.

Any other ideas gratefully received.

Thanks

Convert The Format Of A Date Time String Transformation....

Jul 27, 2004

Im working with a breaking system and I wont to convert the (FROM) datetime column to accept just time like (4:00:00 AM) without the date (7/23/2004) but it doesn’t have column format like the access ??
I found something in the SQL help :

How to convert the format of a Date Time String transformation (Enterprise Manager)
To convert the format of a Date Time String transformation
1.On the Transformations tab of the Transform Data Task Properties or Data Driven Query Task Properties dialog box, click the Source column containing the date or time to be modified, and then click the Destination column where you want the modified string to be placed.
2.Do one of the following:
•If there is a mapping arrow connecting the two columns, click Delete, and then click New.
•If there is no mapping arrow, click New.
3.In the Create New Transformation dialog box, click DateTime String.
4.Click the General tab, and then click Properties.
5.In the Date Format list, select the format you want.
6.Click Naming to display the Calendar Names dialog box, where you can select long or short day or month names and the A.M. and P.M. designators you want.
7.In the Language list, select the language you want, and then click Set Language Defaults.
But unfortunately I didn't find the "Transformations tab" I look a lot in the SQL Enterprise Manager

Do anybody work with the Transformations or at least know where is it please ???

Reporting Services Formatting Fields From Whole Minutes To Hours

Jun 6, 2007

Dear All,

I have a problem formatting a field in Reporting Services (minutes to hours).

I have a field called duration which stores time in whole minutes only. I can format this into hours within mssql using the following:

cast(sn.duration/60 as varchar(5)) + ':' + RIGHT('0' + cast(sn.duration%60 as varchar(2)), 2)

But I need to have totals and average columns in my report, which means that the data must come through to RS in the minutes format so I can perform the calculations there.

I have the first part (I think!!):

=string.format("{0:0}",Fields!SalesTime.Value / 60) + ":"

But I cannot get the minutes part working!

Any help would be gratefully received.

SQL Vs Access Date Query Format

Mar 7, 2004

I am new to SQL server, and am learning as I move an Access db to MSDE2000A. With Access db I run several different queries from a VB6 application in the basic format:

SELECT testdb.*
FROM testdb
WHERE testdb.datefield = #1/01/2004#

When working with the MDSE version of the db, problem is with the "#" delimiter of dates. MSDE is giving a bad query error. If I change the format to: datefield = '1/01/2004' , the query works on MSDE

However, using SQL builder in VB Design Environment I can run the query in either format and get a result.

Any suggests what I am missing? Thanks.

Date Formatting - Pull Information From Data String

Above is the data string that I am trying to pull the information from. Here is the function I'm currently using:

cast(substring(c.itemname,charindex('Bill Statement - ',c.itemname)+18,10) as varchar)

...which gives me what i want most of the time, but beacuse the date is not equally formatted through out the database and the date can look like 5/4/2012 and using the above formula it will show up as 5/4/2012 -

So my question is how can i trim off the dash part when the data shows up like 5/4/2012 - ?

How Do I Convert A Unix Date/Time Field To A Date When The The SQL DB Stores That Data As Char 11?

Nov 13, 2007

Hi there.
I'm trying to extract data from my SQL server & everything in the script I've got is working (extracting correct data) except for one field - which is for the most part it's off by +2 days (on a few occasions - I see it off by just +1 day or even +3, but it's usually the +2 days).

I'm told that it's due to the conversion formula - but - since SQL is not my native language, I'm at a bit of a loss.

The DB table has the date field stored as a type: CHAR (as opposed to 'DATE')
Can anyone out there help?

Please advise. Thanks.

Best.
