Data Access :: Executing Stored Procedure From Excel VBA Seems To Lose Connection In Middle Of Sproc Execution

Jul 9, 2015

I am running into an issue while executing a sproc from Excel VBA.  Everything connects fine, and I am passing a parameter, however, after a few seconds, it seems like the connection receives a "completed" command and continues down it's code, but the sproc is still executing.  The result is that I never receive the record set from the sproc. Here is the code snippet from VBA:

' Create Recordset objects.
Dim cmd As New ADODB.Command
Dim conn As ADODB.Connection
Dim prm As ADODB.Parameter
Dim sConnString As String
Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Dim strQry As String
Dim rowCount As Long

[code]....

And here is the sproc that is being called. the first thing it performs after the "IF" block (there are multiple steps that would consecutively be called after this, but all of the data hinges on this first step working) is a TRUNCATE statement.  After running a SQL profiler while executing the VBA code, I consistently see an "account log out" entry; almost as if the connection from the Excel workbook is sent a disconnect instruction.  The sproc continues to run and perform the rest of the script in the "IF" block, but the returned recordset is never returned back to Excel.

SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
SET NOCOUNT ON
GO

[code]....

Data Access :: MS Access ADODB Connection To Stored Procedure - Cannot Retrieve Data

Sep 22, 2015

I'm trying to re-write my database to de-couple the interface (MS Access) from the SQL Backend.  As a result, I'm going to write a number of Stored Procedures to replace the MS Access code.  My first attempt worked on a small sample, however, trying to move this on to a real table hasn't worked (I've amended the SP and code to try and get it to work on 2 fields, rather than the full 20 plus). It works in SQL Management console (supply a Client ID, it returns all the client details), but does not return anything (recordset closed) when trying to access via VBA code. The Stored procedure is:-

USE [VMSProd]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [Clients].[vms_Get_Specified_Client] Script Date: 22/09/2015 16:29:59 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

SQL 2012 :: Executing Parameterized Stored Procedure From Excel

Aug 12, 2013

I'm using Excel 2010 (if it matters), and I can execute a stored procedure fine - as long as it has no parameters.

Create a new connection to SQL Server, then in the Connection Properties dialog, specify

Command Type: SQL
Command Text: "SCRIDB"."dbo"."uspDeliveryInfo"

but if I want to pass a parameter, I would normally do something like

SCRIDB.dbo.uspDeliveryInfo @StartDate = '1/1/2010', @EndDate = GETDATE()

but in this case, I would want to pass the values from a couple of cells in the worksheet. Do I have to use ADO (so this isn't a SQL Server question at all?)

Executing Oracle Stored Procedure With Output Parameters Using ADO.NET Connection

Apr 11, 2007

I am a bit confused by an issue that I am having with executing an Oracle stored procedure (with an output parameter) using an ADO.NET connection object. I am able to get this working using an OLEDB connection, but I have no idea why the ADO.NET connection doesn't work. (Bug, by design, or my ignorance?) Actually, I can even get this to work if I use the .NET Providers for OLE DBMicrosoft OLE DB Provider for ORACLE if we set the connectionType to ADO.NET. This is the error that I am receiving:

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "pkg_utility_read.test_out_var " failed with the following error: "The OracleParameterCollection only accepts non-null OracleParameter type objects, not SqlParameter objects.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

It is also worth mentioning that the ORACLE stored procedure has an out parameter with a NUMBER datatype which I think maps to the ADO.NET Int32 datatype. I guess OLE DB datatypes are more closely mapped to ORACLE datatypes. In OLE DB you can set the parameter to double and the ORACLE stored procedure to NUMBER and it works.

Any help on this would be most appriciated.

I received this stored procedure that I modified to run on my system.  Specifically, I only changed the database and filter text and left the rest alone.  When I execute the stored procedure, I get the error:

Data Access :: HostName / Workstation ID Connection String In Excel

Aug 9, 2011

I currently have the following connection string set up in Excel to connect to my SQL db:

Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=XXXXXX;Initial Catalog=YYYYY;Data Source=SQL;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=PROJMNT1;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False

What I would like to do is replace the Workstation ID (which apparently is hard coded?) so that the user's workstation name pulls (%COMPUTERNAME%) so that I can see who is connecting, using what, for how long etc etc.

Is there anyway to accomplish this?

Timeout Expired Occurs In The Middle Of A Stored Procedure

Sep 11, 2006

greets all,

i have a express set up and running a table filled with a few batches of records. Each batch has approx. 20k records. I have a program that inserts a new batch into the table. afterwards, it makes a call to a stored procedure. this SP compares the last batch with the latest batch and marks the records as additions, updated, or deleted records (which will be used by the program). the problem im experiencing is that the comparison algorithm is getting the "Timeout expired" error returning back to my program. the SP seems to take roughly 1-3 minutes to make the comparisons. i tried setting the execution timeout to 0 (no timeout) in Options->Query Execution->SQL Server->General but i still encounter the problem. am i changing the wrong option for this or is there something else i can try? im going to try to reproduce this database in SQL Server 2000 so i can use the profiler, but im running into problems exporting the database to an older version (im not familiar with bcp, which im looking into). any advice until then?

Can I Use A SqlDataSource Control Exclusively To Pass Data To A Stored Procedure For Execution (insert/update Only)?

Feb 28, 2008

Hi,
I'm reasonably new to ASP.NET 2.0
I'm in my wizard_FinishButtonClick event, and from here, I want to take data from the form and some session variables and put it into my database via a stored procedure.  I also want the stored procedure to return an output value.  I do not need to perform a select or a delete.
For the life of me, I can't find a single example online or in my reference books that tells me how to accomplish this task using a SqlDataSource control.  I can find lots of examples on sqldatasources that have a select statements (I don't need one) and use insert and update sql statements instead of stored procedures (I use stored procedures).
I desperately need the syntax to:
a) create the SqlDataSource with the appropriate syntax for calling a stored procedure to update and/or insert (again, this design side of VS2005 won't let me configure this datasource without including a select statement...which I don't need).
b) syntax on how to create the parameters that will be sent to the stored procedure for this sqldatasource (including output parameters).
c) syntax on how to set the values for these parameters (again...coming from form controls and session variables)
d) syntax on how to execute, in the code-behind, the stored procedure via the sqldatasource.
If anybody has sample code or a link or two, I would be most appreciative.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Problem In Data Access Though SQL Server Stored Procedure

Apr 17, 2008

I have two database SOP and CRM. Both supports windows authentication and SOP suports sql authentication too. Now i have to write a SP in SOP database with identity impersonation (with superadmin authentication) which will do some work with this impersonated id on SOP database but needs to fetch some values from CRM with the current user account - not impersonated account.Lets clear... I want to show the orders generated by all users and in the display grid there is a column like "IsMyCustomer?" which will show the order is to a customer which i have access. In CRM (MS) if i select from FilteredCustomer view i will get the customersid of those under me. And if i left outer join with FilteredOrder view in SOP (with Super Admin windows credentials)  which returns orders by current user i will get the desired result. Now the problem is i can't sent two connection credentials to a SP. So what i want is to connect SOP with user's windows credentials (not with impersonation) and from the SP we will Select data with Admin's account. But i don't know is there any way to connect to a linked server with a different credentials. Like when i am selecting from CRM server it will use different credentials.Remember i am using SQL server 2000 and everything should be done through a single SP.I know i can do this easily with two different select from Data access layer. But i am looking for some performance effectinve way. My PM wants this idea to be implemented. I have no chice guys....

Ad Hoc Query Vs Stored Procedure Performance Vs DTS Execution Of Stored Procedure

Jan 23, 2008

Has anyone encountered cases in which a proc executed by DTS has the following behavior:
1) underperforms the same proc when executed in DTS as opposed to SQL Server Managemet Studio
2) underperforms an ad-hoc version of the same query (UPDATE) executed in SQL Server Managemet Studio

What could explain this?

Obviously,

All three scenarios are executed against the same database and hit the exact same tables and indices.

Query plans show that one step, a Clustered Index Seek, consumes most of the resources (57%) and for that the estimated rows = 1 and actual rows is 10 of 1000's time higher. (~ 23000).

The DTS execution effectively never finishes even after many hours (10+)
The Stored procedure execution will finish in 6 minutes (executed after the update ad-hoc query)
The Update ad-hoc query will finish in 2 minutes

Sproc Not Executing As Expected

I use the following sproc to populate a table that is used as the base recordset for a report.

For some reason, when the sproc is run from a scheduled job, it doesn't repopulate the table. It does, however, truncate the table. If I run it manually from query analyzer, it works fine.

I've checked all the permissions on all the object touched by the sproc, and everything looks right there. Is there another problem I should be looking for?

'Name',

The error I receive is: "Incorrect syntax near ')'" All of the values are valid values and valid types.

Is it possible to be an error within the stored procedure itself? This error makes it sound like the syntax of my attempt is incorrect, thus it never gets ran.

Thank you ,

Now new in Visual Studio 2005, I can't use sqlcommand wizard anymore, therefore I try to use the new sqldatasource control. When I Configure Datasource in Sqldatasource wizard, I assign select field using exist stored procedure, the wizard control return all parameter in the list with auto assign the direction type(input/ouput....), after that, whatever I try, I click on Test Query Button at last part, I always get error message The Query did not return any data table.
My Question is How can I setup sqldatasource to access Stored Procedure which contain output parameter, and after that How can I assign the output parameter value to bind to the label control's Text field to show on web?
Thanks anyone, who can give me any advice.

Bad Token When Executing Stored Procedure

Mar 11, 1999

We have a test and production environment. After transfering some tables from
test to prod and all stored procedures using those tables.
We get an error when executing those stored procedures:
" DB-library: Possible network error:
Bad token from SQL Server:
Datastream processing out of sync.
Net-library error 0:
DB-libray Process Dead - Connection Broken. "
When we execute the stored procedure with 1 parameter less we get a parameter
missing error. Then we execute the stored procedure again and everything is allright?
Has anyone experienced this before? If so, please help.
SQlServer 6.50.201

Executing A Stored Procedure Result

Jul 22, 2004

Hi Guys..

How Can i Execute a result from a StoredProcedure... I got a sp that generates drop index and pk from all tables in the DB..

I got this results from running (sp_dropallindex) like this:

ALTER TABLE Table1 DROP CONSTRAINT PK_Table1 GO
ALTER TABLE Table2 DROP CONSTRAINT PK_table2 GO
DROP INDEX table1.index1 GO
DROP INDEX table1.index2 GO

I need to execute that result.. I know that i can copy/paste into Query Analyzer and then run it but how can i handle that result and run all in shot ...

I tried something like this:

DECLARE @DROP AS VARCHAR(8000)
SET @DROP='exec sp_drop_allindex'
EXECUTE (@DROP)

and i see the same out , but my indexes and PK still there ... i'm confused about it ..

PLEASE HELP ME OUT :D
