Data Access :: ODBC Not Working With Domain Users

Nov 19, 2015

We have purchased an ERP system from a vendor which uses system DSN for all the reports. The system automatically creates DSN with Sa with SQL Server. The problem is the DSN is not working with AD users.

Active Directory server: Windows Server 2008 32 Bit.

SQL Server: Windows Server 2012 64 Bit. This server is already member of my Domain. e.g. CompDomain.com

What should I need to do in client PCs or Server to avail ODBC to AD users.

Jan 12, 2000

Hi Everyone,

I have set up a link from ACCESS to a SQL 7.0 database using ODBC (File DSN saved on a shared DRIVE). The link works well only from the workstation where the link was created. But How can I create a link so a group of users can view the linked table in ACCESS without type a password? Any suggestion is appreciated.

- I have try following the KB265808 - no success.
- Reading alot of blogs and it seems all are pointing to the same problem. "Remote access" but the settign is enabled.Error Message:

TITLE: Connect to Server

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Reporting Services :: Adding (new) Child Domain Users To SSRS As System Users?

Jul 28, 2015

We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.

I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.

Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?

User On Trusted Domain Does Have Permission To Access Linked Server On AD Deployed In Another Domain

Sep 28, 2007

Hi,
We have the followoing:

-A "master domain" AD, a "sub domain" AD, a trust relationship between the two (sub trust master)
-A sql server 2005 on a win server 2003 in "sub domain" AD
-A linked server to "sub domain" AD
-A linked server login using a "sub domain" admin acccount
-A view to this linked server
-A grant on masterDomain/Domain Users to the database
-A grant on subDomain/Domain Users to the database
-We want all connections done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".

Queries on the view work fine using "sub domain" user accounts.
Queries on the view fail using "master domain" user accounts (including master domain admin accounts)

"Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation."

All connections are done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".

Can we establish cross domain connectivity with "Windows Authentication" ?

Below are details of the implementation:

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT *
FROM OPENQUERY(ADSI,
'SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn (etc...)
FROM ''LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com''
WHERE objectCategory = ''Person'' AND objectClass = ''user'' ')

EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname ='ADSI', @useself='false',
@rmtuser='subDomainAdminAccnt', @rmtpassword='sunDomainAdminAccntPassword';

In SQL Server Mngt Studio in Server Objects/Linked Servers/Providers/ ADSI properties security tab I have:

"connections will: <be made using this security context> Remote login:'subDomainAdminAccnt' With password: 'subDomainAdminAccntPassword'

Error:
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation.

Msg 7320, Level 16, State 2, Line 1

Cannot execute the query "SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn

FROM 'LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com'

WHERE

objectCategory = 'Person'

AND objectClass = 'user'

" against OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI".

SQL Security :: Domain Migration Altered SA Or Domain Admin Access To DBs

Jun 19, 2015

we recently migrated from our in-house domain to the Enterprise domain. Everything went smooth except for the fact that I can no longer accept my dBs using my SA or my domain admin account. There is only 1 account I can get into the management studio with but it has no admin privileges, so I can't make any  password changes or add accounts. I don't have a test environment so kind of hesitant to experiment with our production system.

Data Access :: Users Get Wrong Data Records - Cross Coupling When Accessing Files From MVC App

Aug 7, 2015

I have an MVC asp.net application that stores many records in a table on sql server, in its own system.  used the system for 2 months, worked fine accessing, changing data.

Now that other users are logging in? there is cross coupling going on.  one user gets the data from another users sql search.

In the mvc app it had used the get async method to read the ID record from the db, i set that to synchronous.  no effect;  the user makes their own login id but that does nt matter either.

SQL 2012 :: Grant Access To Sensitive Data To Users

May 12, 2015

I have a large table with email column. I need to grant select access to this email column to many users but the actual email should not be visible to those users. I thought of following options:

1.Create an indexed view with that column encrypted and then grant access to users. While searching by email, their search text will also be encrypted and then matched with view column.Problem with this is that I have to create indexed view because most searches will be on Email column and table size is pretty big,20 m records. I don't prefer indexed view in general.

2. Add another column to table with encrypted email and grant access to that column to users. Problem with this is that it will increase table size and i'll need one more index.

Migrating Users To New Domain

Jan 21, 2003

We are currently in the process of migrating users from a NT 4.0 domain to a win2k Domain. On some of our SQL Servers the Windows Authenticated users own objects within the database. These Windows Authenticated users also own SQL Server Job and DTS Packages. Once these Windows Authenticated users are moved over to the Windows 2000 Domain they have to qualify there database objects, they can not see their SQL Server Jobs they created and they cannot modify the DTS Packages they previously created. Is their a tool or script out there that can fix this problem of moving the Windows Authenticated users smoothly over to the new domain.

Extract Data From ACCESS Database With Pwd Via ODBC

Feb 27, 2007

Hi,

My task is simple, I want to use the execute sql task editor to grab a value from a database in Access and put it in a variable. The connection is via ODBC and the access database is protected by a password.

I've done all the preliminary stuff such as running profiler to make sure that the package is getting the call to the database, setting up the ResultSet to be "single row" in the general tab, mapped the Result Set correctly, but nothing works. I get the same error every time.

This is my sql command:

select count(FingerPrintID) as FingerPrint

from Employee

Result Set is set up like this:

Result Name: FingerPrint ; Variable Name: User:: varDataset

Here is the error I get:

Error: 0xC002F309 at Execute SQL Task, Execute SQL Task: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "varDataset": "Value does not fall within the expected range.".

My variable is set up as a Int16.

Please help!!!!!

If you could provide step by step example's that would really make my day.

Thanks,

Lawrence

Failure To Authendicate Domain/users

Sep 8, 2006

I have several access databases in mind to migrate to SQL server. I installed MS SQL 2005 Express on my machine. I will have procedures to run with authorizations beyond that of a common user, such as database administrative work where server agent is not available, I may rely on users' log-on prompt to do some maintenance work. However, I cannot get the EXEC AS 'DomainUser' to work. The procedures can be created OK. But whenever they are called, the following message shows up:

Msg 15404, Level 16, State 19, Procedure XXX, Line 0
Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DomainUser', error code 0xea.

I tried to tweak with the account under which the server service is running. There are three options under built-in account: Local system, Local service, and Network Service. My understanding is that Network Service will use the log-on of the current user of the computer. I have admin right of the computer. None of the three options work. Additionally, when I specify an account (my own account), it's the same thing.

The procedure xp_logininfo always fails when I query a specific domainuser.

The ADHelper is configured to run manually.

I could not think of other ways to get a possible solution. Any help is much appreciated.

Data Access :: Combining Tables Of 2 Separate Databases For ODBC Use

Apr 29, 2015

Currently we have one customer database containing various tables. As part of requirements for a new client, we need to manage their data in a totally separate database. The tables and structure are exactly the same but we would be loading data into a separate database.

I am looking for a way to combine tables with the same name in each database when I run queries, rather than having to query each database separately. Currently we actually have many queries set up in MS Access which use an ODBC link to query the data off SQL server. I am aware it is possible to apply a UNION SELECT in Access from 2 separate ODBC connections, but this is extremely slow.So my initial question is - is there a way to provide access to the tables from both databases over the same ODBC link? If this cannot be done over ODBC I guess we can consider more "modern" methods, but ideally we want to keep this in MS Access as that is where our existing queries are based. I was hoping that some kind of view can be treated as an ODBC connection.I mentioned ideally we want to keep the reporting queries in MS Access.

But no luck.

Has anyone experienced this?

Domain Users + Local Groups + Scale Out Deployment = Problem

Feb 13, 2008

We have a problem authenticating domain users contained in local machine user groups across multiple web servers in a scale out deployment.

When we originally setup our single SSRS database server we were told the a best practice is to add domain users to local user groups on the SSRS machine.

Now we want to add more web servers and create a scale-out deployment. So, we added the web servers and configured the scale-out deployment. But, only administrators can see the reports since all of our SSRS roles are assigned permissions such as "Machine1User_Group".

We were told that we have to create identical local groups on Machine2 and Machine3 and then add them to the SSRS roles. This is prohibitive since it would mean managing 3 identical user groups containing thousands of domain users.

Is there a better way to do this without using Domain User Groups?

Thank you for any assistance.

How Can I Use Create Or Alter Statements With ODBC And Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*mdb)?

May 13, 2007

Hi,

I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".

When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.

How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?

I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.

Thanks for help!

Odbc Errors After Joining New Domain With New User

Jun 14, 2007

Hi

I am new to this forum so I hope I have got the right one.

The problem I am having is I installed a new server into an office with 25 users. I joined the users to the new domain with new logins.

The server process then installed outlook 2003 onto each machine. Most machines are windows 2000

Problems arose in sage I have tied this down to the report designer and odbc.

On every machine bar 1 the report designer crashed when running a report. The problem like I said was that you cannot now connect to the odbc driver for sage and when you go into odbcad and try to look at the driver you get an error saying

The setup routines for the sage line 50 odbc driver could not be loaded due to system error 127

Then after that comes

Could not load the setup or translator library

I have looked on the net for this error and it tells you to look in the registry to make sure that the odbcinst is pointing to the correct location, I have checked this and it is. I ahve also checked the security and this seems ok aswell.

The next step was I loaded a fresh copy of windows 2000 into a new folder and tried to load the odbc driver again. This failed with the same as above.

This points to the software settings but I cannot find out where.

Iwas wondering if anyone has had the same problem and they could point me in the right direction.

How To Avoid Web Users To Connect To SQL Server Trought ODBC

Feb 25, 2008

Hi everybody,

i'll try to explain the problem with my bad english, so sorry.

In my firm i have a server (W2003 Server) with IIS 6.0 and SQL Server 2005 EE an it is joined in the main domain as all users and their workstation (window XP) are joined too.

The main role for this server is to be a web server and with IIS Manager I configured to verify user identities with Windows Integrated authentication without any anonymous access to web pages (ASP scripts).

I made a group called "Web Users" with read right on ASP scripts and his only one member is "Domain Users".

"Web Users" has of course rights to access this server from network.

This group is also a SQL Server login because it has rights to wiew an modify data at least in one db table trought ASP pages using ADO, but the problem is that they can also connect using ODBC.

Configuring SQL to accept only local connection i can avoid this, but as SQL Admin i can't connect too. So how is possible for web users interact with SQL only trought web pages ?
Thank you very much

I have created a new SSRS Server and done all of the basic security setup for the site but I am having trouble with client machine access...At first I had an issue with being able to access report manager from any client and ended up having to shut off windows authentication on the client IE settings to get it to work.  Now I am trying to run Report Builder from a client machine and it will not download. The client machine is on the same domain and my user id is set as an administrator within SSRS and as a local admin on the 2008 server.

I had the thought that without windows auth in the browser maybe it can't permit me access to the application but if I turn it on I can't get to it to download it.  I have set Full Control rights to the folder as well. Most of the info out there is for 2005 and that uses IIS to host the pages where as 2008 does not. Here is the details of the error:
