Hi
we have some Access databases that are password protected. I get an error when I try an access these through a Linked Server. If I remove the password there is no problem.
I have tried adding the password to the security Information with a user of admin but this fails with a 7303 error. Should I not use admin as the user ??
Any ideas ???
thanks

Hello,I have an sql server 2000 on the network and one installed locally inmy computer. I use access as front-end.I go through odbc to connect to the sql server on the network.I was wondering if it is possible to setup the access file to link toeither server.I need to do this because I would like to use the local server as testenvironment. I know I could achieve that by creating 2 users on my XPclient and having odbc liking depending of the users. Is any other way to do that without login and logoff everytime I wantto use a different database.thanks,Giovanni
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know the SQL syntax to join two tables in different databases on the ame server, but does anyone know if a SQL statement will allow you to join tables from different databases on different servers?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have NT SQL 7 and Web Server on same box. I have a new server with W2K and SQL 2000 installed (no IIS). I am migrating the databases over and when done I will install W2K on the old box and it will remain the IIS Web server front end to the new SQL 2000 Server.
On the old configuration, IIS and SQL 7 on the same box, I added the IUSER to the database from the local computer users list when needed for web access. How do I add that user now that the boxes are seperate? The acccout is not a local account on the new machine and the account is a loca account on the other machine so it does not authenticate to the domain so I can't pull it in from there.
Thanks for any help.

I'm using MSSQL7, NT authentication and application roles so only my application can access the data. Also, other applications (like Excel) can not access the data and read it. So far, so good...
Yet, I noticed that if I try to access the SQL Server from another SQL Server on the network, it is allowed to see the list of tables, SP, etc. It is not allowed to open the table, but the Import/Export wizard is working and will allow retrieving data from the secured tables.
If I change to MSSQL authentication, any user will be able to access the data from my application and I don't want that either.
Unless I'm missing something, this is a big problem, especially today where any VPN connection with valid user name and password can actually log in to the domain and therefore connect to the database via SQL Server.
By the way, the server still must allow access to users via applications so logins must exist. I just don't want other SQL servers on the network to be able to connect to and import/export, view table and SP, etc.
Any ideas?

Having a little problem with linking to Access tables. I have an Access database that has in it, some linked tables. After setting up the linked server in SQL server, none of the linked tables in Access show up, only the tables that were created or imported show up.
Is there anything you can do to get the linked tables in Access to show up under the tables list in the SQL linked server?
Being an IT consultant, I have to visit a number of customers having applications running on SQL Servers that implement trusted connection security model. In addition, all of these companies have their own DOMAIN settings, and security implementation.
How can I access to databases without changing the DOMAIN settings of MY notebook? I do not want them to switch to SQL security model, and I do not want to create any security hole in those companies.
What shall I want from the system administrator so that I can login into their domain without changing my domain settings?
Thanks,

Hi,
Im trying to access data from a database on another server in a SQL 2005 query.
use Bury2k29.ServiceDeskForms
select .......
but I get the message
could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'Burky2k29'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
Bury2k29 is the name of the server, and ServiceDeskForms is the database I want to access.
When I open a blank query and enter only the code to access that database it runs fine.
Any ideas?
Hi All,
I am facing a strange issue with accessing data from SQL server 2000. We are using SQL Server authentication for connecting to SQL Server 2000 and ADO .Net SQL client in the application. The problem here is, we have databases installed in one of the servers in some other office location that is in different state but on same domain. We do development from two locations that is one from Virtual Machines hosted on servers where Database Servers are located and on our local desktops in India.
Now when I developed a test client in Virtual Machines which will call a web service to get datasetof some data and show them in DataGrid. When I run the test client in debug mode from Visual Studio 2003, then I am getting data in the DataGrid. Even when I just run the exe from Virtual Machine still I am getting data.
But when I copy debug folder of the test client to the local desktop in India and when I run the Test client I am not getting any data loaded on to the DataGrid. I am getting an empty dataset when I am running from the local desktop.
Also I have converted the VS2003 project to VS2005 and when I run the application from Local Desktop then I am getting the data loaded fine. I could not understand what is the problem, what is the difference between accessing data from VS2003 and VS2005 using webservice.
Is this a firewall issue or I am missing any thing here. The webservice method I am calling to get data is actually returning dataset when I am calling this method directly from the browser also and even through application in virtual machine.
I am still not able to come to terms with this problem. This is severely affecting our deployment. Please help us resolve this problem. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks,
Venkatesh
Hi
I'm looking to deploy some SQL Server reports and I want to restrict the access that the users have. Currently when connecting to the reports site they have access to a lot of functionality through the header bar, for example
- Properties
- New Folder
- New Data Source
- My Subscriptions
- Site Settings
- Search
etc.
How can I disbale or hide all these options so that all the user sees is the list of reports?
Thanks in advance

Hello
We have 1 machine running SQL Server 2005 x64 (64 bit). The other machine is backing this SQL Server up. It is a 32-bit machine, so it requires (?) a 32-bit version of SQL Server 2005.
Would this back-up machine work correctly on a database previously managed by a 64-bit machine and vice versa.
Thank you!
I'm trying to re-write my database to de-couple the interface (MS Access) from the SQL Backend. As a result, I'm going to write a number of Stored Procedures to replace the MS Access code. My first attempt worked on a small sample, however, trying to move this on to a real table hasn't worked (I've amended the SP and code to try and get it to work on 2 fields, rather than the full 20 plus). It works in SQL Management console (supply a Client ID, it returns all the client details), but does not return anything (recordset closed) when trying to access via VBA code. The Stored procedure is:-
USE [VMSProd]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [Clients].[vms_Get_Specified_Client] Script Date: 22/09/2015 16:29:59 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
[code]....
I have a client who has SSMS installed on her laptop. She is able to connect to the SQL server via SSMS in the office and query data on the server.
She needs to be out of site often and doesn't have internet access. She asks if the data tables can be "backed up" or saved on her laptop, so she can look at them without worrying connecting to the server. I am not sure if this can be achieved, as SSMS is built for accessing a server, not a desktop. Myself never have this need. If I really need it, I would go to Microsoft Access and create an ODBC connection to the datatables. But this client thinks that Microsoft Access is beneath her.
HowTo: Import data to MS SQL 2008 from password protected Access DB ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
We need to insert data/rows from a SQL Server 2014 database into MS Access database. The problem is, there are so many columns (100+) in the table and there are so many insert transactions of this kind (from different tables) that it is not very easy to write the code in VB.NET that lists all column names.
Both the Access and SQL Server tables have the same number of columns and the equivalent data types, so inserting is not really the problem. It's just that is there a way to do an insert statement in T-SQL that does not name all the columns?

View 5 Replies View RelatedHi guys,
I've been developing desktop client-server and web apps and have used Access and SQL Server Standard most of the time.
I'm looking into using SQL CE, and had a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear picture on:
- The documentation for CE says that it supports 256 simultaneous connections and offers the Isolation levels, Transactions, Locking, etc with a 4GB DB. But most people say that CE is strictly a single-user DB and should not be used as a DB Server.
Could CE be extended for use as a multi-user DB Server by creating a custom server such as a .NET Remoting Server hosted through a Windows Service (or any other custom host) on a machine whereby the CE DB would run in-process with this server on the machine which would then be accessed by multiple users from multiple machines??
Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
- and further more can we use Enterprise Services (Serviced Components) to connect to SQL CE and further extend this model to offer a pure high-quality DB Server?
Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> Enterprise Services -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
Seems quite doable to me, but I may be wrong..please let me know either ways
Thanks,

We have a database that I would like to replicate on another server but am unable to use regular replication via publish/subscribe due to the fact that the production database has no primary keys on tables, only clustered indexes. The backup db needs to be as close to real-time synchronized as possible and will be in fairly active use most of the time. Has anyone had success in developing such a system? How did you do it and what are the pitfalls? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
I need to access data across my sql servers . All the servers are 6.5. Think MS DTC is the solution. But how to implement the same. Can somebody give me step by step instructions.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
Not sure thisis the right forum for my question.
I have to insert data from one table into another. The problem is that the 2 tables are on different servers and computers for that matter. I only need data that is in one specific table.
What is the easiest and most efficient way to do that.
If I access the 2 computers via remote desktop from my computer and actually go and copy the data from the table in computer 1 and paste it inside the table in computer 2 it does paste the data. However, for some reason it doesn't paste all the data. The column datatype is ntext.
I mean if the entry is for example 'hello world how are you today? blah bla blah'
It will only paste 'hello world how are'
I will appreciate your help.
Many thanks

Hi,
I've got a quick question here. I'm still quite new to SQL Server. My question is how to transfer file between SQL Servers. For example, i have been working on the database - updating or editing some tables in the SQL Server 2000 at my end. Then, i need to pass whichever tables got updated on to my client who also uses the SQL Server 2000. So we have two separate SQL Servers 2000. i wonder how to transfer data like tables between the two SQL Servers.
Thank you in advance
I need to feed head office sql server with the data from regional servers. Servers are spread through all continents
Data input done locally on Head office server as well and plus need to ship data from other servers.
So clarify this - Head office server is not standby one. Mirroring is out of the picture, I think..
Initially, I thought ship a log every 15 min and restore on Head office server but is this going to create an issue for the local data processing?
Any bright ideas welcome!
I need to append data from a database on one server to a table in a databaseon a different server. Both servers are running SQL 7. How can that be done? Thanks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk..here is my problem. I have two SQL servers that I need to haveidentical, at least semi-real time data on. One is in a public DMZwith full access to and from the internet, and one is behind acorporate firewall and the box can get out to the internet but cannotbe hit directly from the internet in. The two are on seperatenetworks and cannot be connected via lan. Is there a way for me tohave semi-real time data transfers between the two to keep bothservers identical? I have thought that the server behind the firewallcould initiate an XML session with my dmz sql server and processupdates, but I am unfamiliar with how it would know what has changedon the remote server and how the remote server would know what haschanged on the server behind the corporate firewall. Any good ideas?ThanksDan Hirsch
