How To Get IDENTITY_INSERT Incriment Primary Key ID Roll Back When The Application Fails.

Oct 28, 2007

 My question is how to get IDENTITY_INSERT Incriment Primary Key ID  roll back when the application fails.
Using TransactionScope with single connection in DataObject. I am trying to insert row in two dataTable  using its own tableAdapter (two tableAdapter).
I have Product table with ProductID primary key with incriment identity.  and that ProductID is used to insert row in ProductHistory Table. Lets say Product table has the last ProductID=8 (8 rows) and the next ProductID will be 9.
When I insert row in both table and if the second table insert fails both gets roll back (which is good). but when I insert again another time the Product ID=10 not 9. Is there any way to roll back the ProductID in Product table so when i insert next time it has incriment number instead of gap.

Transaction Scope Rollback Does Not Roll Back Action Of Activation SP

Aug 16, 2007

Hi,

I followed Remus' post about not doing 'fire and forget'.

I have two queues, ProcessingSendQueue and ProcessingReceiveQueue.

Once i receive from ProcessingReceiveQueue, activation SP gets called on ProcessingSendQueue and ends conversation.

However,if I then get an exception, the action of the activation SP ( ie the ending of the conversation ) does not get rolled back... is this possible? I would have thought that the action of the activation SP would get rolled back too.

My ProcessingSendQueue activation SP is as follows:

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[ProcessingSendQueue_AP]
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @dh UNIQUEIDENTIFIER;
DECLARE @message_type SYSNAME;
DECLARE @message_body NVARCHAR(4000);

RECEIVE @dh = [conversation_handle], @message_type = [message_type_name], @message_body = CAST([message_body] AS NVARCHAR(4000))
FROM [ProcessingSendQueue];

IF @dh IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
IF @message_type = N'http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error'
BEGIN
RAISERROR (N'Received error %s from service [ProcessingReceiveQueue]', 10, 1, @message_body) WITH LOG;
END
END CONVERSATION @dh;
END
END

Is Replication More Advantageous Over Back-ups

Feb 2, 2006

Hello,

I was reading articles about database replication and found that one important point was that users can continue their work during replication unlike back-ups where they would have to log off.

Question:

Is replication done on servers as well as databases?
How different or better is it over back-ups?
Lastly, is database dump better than database replication?

Is there a link that I can access which might answer these qustions?

Thanks in advance!

SQL Back - Access Front - Replication - Records 'jump'

May 12, 2007

Hi all :

I hope this is an easy one for some of you - this is the scenario :

1) I have an Access Application that has been upsized to SQL

2) We are now replicating it with a second office

3) When we started doing the Merge Replication, the ROWGUID was added to each table

4) When we attempt to add a new record to the table, it allows us to add 3 fields, then the record 'jumps' to the indexed location of the ROWGUID

5) The 'jump' is undesirable as we then have to resort the table by key and finish its input.

5) We have our own primary identity field that SQL seems to be ignoring.

Any help would be really great

Transaction Replication Failed After Restoring Full Back Up Of Database In NORECOVERY

Mar 4, 2011

We had a siutation last night in our production environment that forced us to revert back to an earlier version of the database (before a major code rollout that failed). After restoring the days full backup (with NORECOVERY), and then restoring a DIFF backup (FULL RECOVERY and had checked Preserve Replication Settings)...the transaction replication failed.

Message #1
The replication agent has been successfully started. See the Replication Monitor for more information.

I've tried reinitializing the publication/subscription and while that took brand new snapshots and copied it over to the replicated data server, it did not fix the problem.I read from a different post that I could try running "sp_replrestart" but that ran for about a half an hour and didn't appear to do anything but fill up our log files...did I not wait long enough?

The only thing I know to do at this point is to drop the publication on the production server and rebuild it completely (and with all the tables we're replicating that would take quite a bit of time.

Having Difficulty Setting Back Up To Back Up File Wihout Datetime Stamp SQL 2K

Apr 24, 2007

Hello,I'm trying to create a simple back up in the SQL Maintenance Plan that willmake a single back up copy of all database every night at 10 pm. I'd likethe previous nights file to be overwritten, so there will be only a singleback up file for each database (tape back up runs every night, so each daysback up will be saved on tape).Every night the maintenance plan makes a back up of all the databases to anew file with a datetime stamp, meaning the previous nights file stillexists. Even when I check "Remove files older than 22 hours" the previousnights file still exists. Is there any way to create a back up file withoutthe date time stamp so it overwrites the previous nights file?Thanks!Rick

Roll Up Filtered Detail Group

Apr 4, 2007

I the following report with one group:

Month Number of Sales Total Sales

+ Jan 2007 100 $1,000.00

When you dril down on MonthYear you get the detail data:

Month Number of Sales Total Sales

- Jan 2007 10 $610.00

1 $10.00

1 $20.00

1 $30.00

1 $40.00

1 $50.00

1 $60.00

1 $70.00

1 $80.00

1 $100.00

1 $150.00

My question is. I added a filter to the detail data to give the Bottom % =75 of sales. So My detail data only displays the following rows:

Month Number of Sales Total Sales

- Jan 2007 10 $610.00

1 $10.00

1 $20.00

1 $30.00

1 $40.00

1 $50.00

My problem is the group still displays the total of my dataset (as seen above), but I want it to display the total of the detail data group, like below:

Month Number of Sales Total Sales

- Jan 2007 5 $150.00

1 $10.00

1 $20.00

1 $30.00

1 $40.00

1 $50.00

If I change the fields in the group to look at the detail data ,for instance =count(Fields!NumberofSales.Value,"Details_Group") I get an scope error.

How can I display the totals of the detail data in the parent group after I added a filter to the detail data?

Copy Table Data Back And Forth

Mar 16, 2006

This is probably a dumb question.. but here goes.

I'd like to make a copy of several tables before changes are made to them so that I can 'roll back' if necessary.

What I 'thought' i could to was this:

select * into mytable_temp from mytable

and then to roll back..

truncate table mytable

Select * into mytable from mytable_temp

When I try and select back into my original table, it says I can't because the object already exists.. What is a better way to accomplish this????

Filter Data Back To Publisher

Mar 1, 2007

Hi all,

We have merge replication set up between 2 instances of SQL 2005 through web synchronization. I was wondering is it possible if the subscriber adds data at their end can we selectively edit what data gets uploaded back to the publisher? Will this work if I add a filter to the appropriate article at the publisher or will that only limit what goes down to the subscriber rather than vice-versa?

Also, could we set up web sychronization if the publisher had no direct access to the IIS server (ie. was not on the same network, available only through port 80, 443)?

Thanks,

Iain

Getting Data From Dataset Back Into Database

Sep 7, 2006

I'm new at this so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

I'm creating a website that collects dates in a calendar control (from Peter Blum). When the page containing the control loads it populates the calendar with dates from the database (that have previously been selected by the user). The user then can delete existing dates and/or add new dates.

I create a dataset when the page loads and use it to populate the calendar. When the user finishes adding and deleting dates in the calendar control I delete the original dates from the dataset and then write the new dates to the dataset. I then give execute the data adapter update command to load the contents of the dataset back into the database. This command involves using parameterized queries. For example the Insert command is:

Dim cmdInsert As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("INSERT INTO Requests VALUES(@fkPlayerIDNumber, @RequestDate, @PostDate, @fkGroupID)", conn)

cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@fkPlayerIDNumber", SqlDbType.Int))

cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@RequestDate", SqlDbType.DateTime))

cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@PostDate", SqlDbType.DateTime))

cmdInsert.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@fkGroupID", SqlDbType.Int))

da.InsertCommand = cmdInsert

The update command is:

da.Update(ds, "Requests")

When I run the program I get the following error:

Parameterized Query '(@fkPlayerIDNumber int,@RequestDate datetime,@PostDate datetime,' expects parameter @fkPlayerIDNumber, which was not supplied.

I've used debug print to establish that the table in the dataset contains what it should.

I would be more than grateful for any suggestions.
